Last Friday, Madonna unveiled her new album, Confessions II, a follow-up to the acclaimed, seminal 2005 release Confessions on a Dance Floor. Whilst this is not her first album since the original instalment, it does mark a return to form, bringing back a dance era that has influenced countless artists since.

Every summer has a record that soundtracks months of abandon and fun. Between beach holidays, busy city beer gardens and hedonistic festivals, there is always one album I associate with a particular time. In 2018, it was Robyn's Honey; in 2022, Beyoncé's Renaissance; and, following its 2024 release, Charli XCX's BRAT has dominated every summer since. In 2005, of course, it was Confessions on a Dance Floor. I was only 10 years old, but I still remember "Hung Up" creating a cultural zeitgeist. The video was on every music channel, seemingly at all times; I'd play it on repeat, and the pink leotard etched itself into my mind's fashion mood board forever.

I also remember the backlash Madonna faced back then. Adults in my life were fans of her music, so I was aware of the conversations around whether she was "too old" to be a pop star. Newspapers and magazine columnists declared she was "past it", criticising her for not stepping away from the limelight. Even now, I still see zoomed-in photos of Madonna's face more than almost any other celebrity's, such is the obsessive nitpicking she receives.

Her age is seen as an affront rather than an inspiration.

"Hung Up" was released twenty-one years ago, and since then, Madonna has been the focus of repeated media backlashes centred on two things: her age and her gender. Of course, they are never named outright, but they remain the thinly veiled motivations behind so much of the criticism she receives. There is little serious way to critique Madonna's talent, given the body of work she has created. Instead, the conversation almost always centres on her appearance and whether she should still be dancing "at her age", as if that isn't entirely her own decision—and evidence of remarkable fitness. Her age is seen as an affront rather than an inspiration. Personally, I see her as an example of what it looks like to live a full life, one where passion and creativity continue to grow rather than diminish.

The main gripe people seem to have with Madonna is that she is not ageing "gracefully", because she didn't retire from music in her forties. Leaving your career with "grace" is something only famous women are expected to contend with. Grace is never demanded of men, because it isn't grace that anyone is after; what they really want is for women who have aged out of being objectified to quietly disappear. Older women are dangerous because they know who they are and are less vulnerable to the industry's manipulation. Despite Madonna's long history of pushing against expectations, once she reached her fifties, it was as though her career entered a new domain—one where she could never win.

Meanwhile, men perform well into the final decades of their lives and are celebrated as legends. Women don't even need to reach 50 before the pitchforks appear, and magnifying glasses are brought out to inspect whether they look their age. If they have the "right" amount of cosmetic work—an invisible line of acceptability—they may be granted a few more years of popularity. If they have "too much", it's over. The only other loophole is to perform a version of femininity rooted in demureness and quietness. God forbid they wear something joyful—say, a pink leotard—because that will instantly provoke outrage.

Madonna is more than a legendary pop star. She shaped modern disco, pop and dance music into what it is today, bringing the industry up to her level rather than sinking to its. She wasn't simply a pop star; she was the pop star: one of the last artists capable of dominating culture before fandoms and social media fragmented audiences into silos.

Madonna has repeatedly found herself at the centre of cultural panic whenever she has challenged expectations around religion, sexuality and womanhood.

At every point in her career, Madonna has challenged the standards that treat women unfairly—sometimes deliberately, sometimes simply through existing. The ageism she has faced for almost two decades falls into the latter category. From the backlash to "Like a Prayer", to Pepsi dropping her, to the banning of "Justify My Love", to the outrage surrounding Erotica, Madonna has repeatedly found herself at the centre of cultural panic whenever she has challenged expectations around religion, sexuality and womanhood. The criticism she receives today follows the same pattern.

Confessions II is one of the best dance albums of 2026. Whilst the impossibly infectious lead single "Danceteria" is a standout, it isn't a one-hit wonder. Euro-pop banger "Read My Lips" transports me to a club filled with cigarette smoke in the Balkans; "Betrayal" should be blasting from rooftops in New York; "I Feel So Free" should be heard across Paris as the sun shines; "Love Sensation" deserves thousands of arms waving to it at festivals. It is an album made for this specific summer.

Yet, apart from rave reviews from critics, I have scarcely seen it cut through popular culture during its first week. Whilst culture journalists are shouting about it, and whilst the album is headed for chart success—and perhaps even a Grammy or two—it doesn't feel destined for cultural domination in the way albums of this calibre often do. That's not because of the music. Years of negative narratives surrounding Madonna have shaped how audiences approach her before they even press play. People can't shake the misogyny and ageism they have unconsciously absorbed.

It is a vulnerable, affecting and joyful record. In a world without those biases, perhaps it would receive the BRAT treatment—or at least a slice of it—and be declared the album of the summer. Instead, the campaign of hostility surrounding Madonna has become so relentless that many people claim to dislike her without being able to articulate exactly why. That's how misogynistic smear campaigns work: hear something often enough, from enough different places, and it begins to feel like your own opinion.

Just weeks ago, Loose Women asked: "Trailblazer or trying too hard?" whilst discussing Madonna's recent performances. It is a debate male performers of a similar age almost never have to contend with. Artists of comparable stature continue touring without endless headlines questioning whether they've somehow expired: Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Bob Dylan.

Instead, coverage of Madonna continues to focus on her body, what she wears and whether she is "trying too hard". She is labelled "raunchy", "past it" and "embarrassing". One particularly revealing headline read: "Madonna, and other acts whose schtick hasn't aged well."

But what is ageing well if not an arbitrary set of social codes designed to keep women small? Men who age are called silver foxes; continuing their craft is seen as wisdom. Women doing exactly the same are treated as cautionary tales. A woman who refuses to shrink herself with age is still viewed as transgressive.

That's precisely why Confessions II matters. It isn't just a brilliant dance album—it is another reminder that, even after decades of reshaping music and culture, Madonna is still being judged less on what she creates than on the fact she continues to create at all.

I flew to Rio expecting to report on Shakira's record-breaking concert. Instead, I found myself inside a fully immersive brand world that made me question whether holidays themselves have fundamentally changed.

Increasingly, it seems we're travelling not just to see places, but to become part of a moment—and brands have noticed.

By the time I arrived at Copacabana Beach for Todo Mundo No Rio, the free open-air festival where an estimated two million people would gather to watch Shakira perform—and, crucially, the reason for my visit—I owned a Corona sarong, a Corona T-shirt, a Corona cap embroidered with "Copacabana" in the brand's signature font, a raffia beach bag, badges and enough merchandise to convincingly pass as a member of staff.

I had spent the previous evening drinking shimmering Corona beers brewed to mirror Rio's golden-hour glow at a sundowner DJ set atop Sugarloaf Mountain. On the day of the much-anticipated festival, artists hand-painted silk scarves featuring illustrations of Sugarloaf, Copacabana, and, of course, the Corona logo. There were customisation stations where we queued to make our merch bespoke.

It seemed that I hadn't just travelled to Rio; I'd stepped inside the Corona universe. I've been lucky enough to go on my fair share of press trips over the years. They usually revolve around a beautiful hotel, a launch dinner or a carefully curated itinerary. This, though, was different. Not so for my travelling companion, who had previously flown to Corona Island, the beer brand's own tropical enclave off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia.

At first, it felt like very slick marketing backed by a very big budget. But between those customisation stations, sunset parties and Shakira performing to millions on the beach, I realised Corona wasn't simply sponsoring a festival—it was offering something increasingly valuable: the feeling of belonging to a moment. Being a Brit, my mind drifted to the silky-smooth M&S ads of yore… "This is not just a brand activation… this is a Corona brand event."

Or, to use the brand's own parlance: "This Is Living." That fittingly apt brand slogan neatly sums up something we're all craving—something that should be a given—but feels increasingly elusive in our digital-first world: living.

We're No Longer Just Travelling to See Places

Was Rio an anomaly—or a glimpse of where travel is heading? We often talk about experience-led travel as though it's another passing holiday trend, lumping it alongside sleep tourism, wellness retreats and solo travel. But I wonder if something more fundamental is happening. Increasingly, we're not content to travel simply to see places; we're travelling to step inside worlds.

Just look at the holidays dominating our wish lists. People don't just go to Edinburgh; they go because Taylor Swift is in town. They don't simply book Silverstone; they travel for Formula One. Sicily isn't just Sicily anymore—it's The White Lotus, Euro Summer and Dua Lipa's wedding destination. Thousands of people fly across continents to run marathons, attend immersive wellness retreats or spend weekends at festivals where the destination is almost secondary to the event. Yes, the place still matters. But more often than not, it's the moment that gets us on the plane.

The data suggests this isn't simply anecdotal. Mastercard's latest travel report argues that people's motivations are becoming one of the biggest forces shaping how—and where—they travel. Researchers identified two growing groups: those seeking immersion in local culture and those travelling for a specific experience, whether that's a sporting event, nightlife, shopping or a festival. "Today's tourists are looking for travel experiences that leave a lasting impression, helping them to create memories," explains Natalia Lechmanova, Mastercard's Chief Economist for Europe.

Of course, people have always travelled in search of memorable experiences. Safaris, pilgrimages and even the humble package holiday all promised some form of escape or enrichment. What's changed is the expectation. Today's holidays increasingly claim transformation. They're sold not as a chance to switch off, but as an opportunity to become someone else, however briefly.

Today's savviest brands aren't asking where we want to go. They're asking who we want to become while we're there.

Rio made that very clear. On paper, I'd travelled there to report on a music festival. In reality, I'd entered something closer to an immersive universe. Every touchpoint, from the Fairmont hotel takeover to the personalised merch, reinforced the sense that I was part of something designed to feel bigger than a holiday or even a festival.

Perhaps that's why the trusty old travel brochure feels so outdated. For decades, holiday marketing asked a nostalgically simple question: Where do you want to go? Today's savviest brands seem to be asking something altogether different: Who do you want to become while you're there?

The New Luxury Is Access

It's easy to dismiss Todo Mundo No Rio as a one-off. After all, not every brand has the budget to take over one of the world's most famous beaches or sponsor a concert for millions of people.

Then I found myself at Silverstone. This time, I was there as a guest of Revolut. Officially, I'd been invited to the British Grand Prix. In reality, I'd been invited into Formula One itself: hospitality suites, behind-the-scenes access, choreographed moments, including a Q&A with driver Gabriela Boroleto, and a front-row seat to one of the biggest weekends in British sport.

Despite the frighteningly hot weather (climate change, people!), it looked very different from Rio, but there were similarities. Both weekends were designed to make guests feel less like spectators than participants. Again, the event wasn't something just to watch; it was something to inhabit.

Neither brand was selling the event; they were selling proximity. Proximity to culture and exclusivity—a moment millions of other people wanted to be part of. Brands used to sell products. Then they sold lifestyles. Increasingly, I think they're selling memories—or perhaps more accurately, the opportunity to create them.

It's easy—and tempting—to dismiss this as clever marketing, but I don't think that's the whole story. If brands are investing millions in immersive experiences, it's because they've recognised something about the way we now travel. We no longer want to be passive observers. We want to belong.

Perhaps that's because modern life increasingly fragments us. We work remotely. We consume entertainment alone. Algorithms personalise everything we see. Even the internet, once imagined as a shared public square, increasingly serves each of us a different version of reality. Travel—and music festivals, which so often go hand in hand—have become one of the few places where we can still experience collective joy.

Standing on Copacabana Beach, surrounded by, quite literally, millions of people, I kept returning to a thought: I am part of this. That desire—to participate rather than just bear witness—helps explain why so many of today's biggest travel trends revolve around events, communities and transformation rather than destinations alone.

Of course, that doesn't mean we should surrender ourselves unquestioningly to branded worlds. There's a fascinating conversation to be had about commercialisation, authenticity and whether our experiences are becoming increasingly mediated by corporations. But dismissing experiences like Todo Mundo No Rio as simply marketing misses something important because they reveal how profoundly our relationship with travel has changed.

For my part, I went to Rio expecting to write about a beer brand throwing an extravagant festival. Instead, I came home wondering whether holidays themselves have fundamentally evolved, and thinking about why, increasingly, we're chasing moments that make us feel part of something bigger than ourselves.

Ultimately, I think we travel to step inside worlds—to belong to a moment, if only for a weekend, and return home feeling as though, however briefly, we were part of something bigger than ourselves.

It's almost that time - with award season in full swing, the BRIT Awards are back this weekend, and the biggest names in music are gathering to celebrate the very best in the industry. And, for the first time in its almost fifty year history, the BRITs will not take place in London and will instead be held at Manchester's Co-Op Live.

Last year, Jade Thirlwall's incredible red carpet look went viral and the former Little Mix star's enormous success as a solo artist earned her the coveted Best Pop Act statuette. Other winners from 2025 included Charli XCX, who picked up a total of five awards including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Plus, there was an unforgettable performance from Sabrina Carpenter, complete with Kings Guard dancers and an enormous pink heart bed.

So, who is in the running to pick up a BRIT award this year? Olivia Dean and Lola Young are leading, with five nominations each, followed by Sam Fender with 4 nominations. Lily Allen is also in the running for some BRIT wins following the release of her hugely successful fifth studio album, West End Girl, late last year.

Taylor Swift has only just released her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and in less than a fortnight there have been endless conversations about her shift back to pop, as well as her adoption of a burlesque-adjacent aesthetic. While fans are still deciphering the lyrics in some of the new songs, Taylor has already announced that a brand new project is on the way.

During an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday 13th October, Taylor confirmed that fans will get a sneak peak of her life on the road during The Eras Tour in a brand new six-part docu-series. The popstar is releasing not one but two shows, The End of an Era docuseries and the Eras Tour Final Show, both of which will be available to watch on Disney Plus from 12th December 2025.

The teaser trailer for The End of an Era docu-series includes behind the scenes clips from the record-breaking world tour, following Taylor as she prepares for the live shows, spends time with her fiance Travis Kelce, and rehearses her dance routines. The clip includes narration from Taylor, as she says: "People like to talk about phenomenons. Almost as if it was pieces falling into place. As if it just happened. The Eras Tour wasn't went all the pieces fell into place. In this tour is just when every single one of us who had done so much work, pushing, inch by inch tube where we all clicked together. We have broken every single record you can break with this tour. The only thing left is to close the book. I will not be able to get to sleep. I can come down."

In a statement, Taylor added (via Daily Mail): "It was the End of an Era and we knew it. We wanted to remember every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of our lives, so we allowed filmmakers to capture this tour and all the stories woven throughout it as it wound down."

Confirming the news on Travis' podcast New Heights, Taylor shared that her next era - titled The Life of a Showgirl - will be coming very soon. Although there's no release date as of yet, fans who pre-order will have a physical copy shipped by 13th October.

The thematic colour of The Life of a Showgirl is an unmissable orange. In the past, Taylor has used orange as a means of transformation (it was laced through the Reputation and Lover palettes in music videos and Eras Tour outfits), and as the announcement was made her website was awash with a sparkly, burnt orange hue. In the a TikTok carousel from Taylor Nation - she's wearing the earthy colour in every single picture, and it's suddenly clear just how many of her tour outfits were linked to this upcoming album. And that's not the most interesting part - on the last night of the Eras Tour, she ended her Karma performance by exiting through an orange door. So it won't come as a surprise to a single Swiftie that she's been dropping easter eggs for this album for ages.

The numbers

Fans will know that Taylor is very considered when it comes to numerology - from release dates to references in her songs. And it appears that, in line with the fact that this is her twelfth album, she's moving away from her usual use of '13' and leaning into the 12 of it all. Not only did the news drop on 12th August, but the announcement was made on Instagram at 12:12.

The 'TS' signs

Eagle eyed fans spotted not one but three 'TS' signs in the clip from the New Heights podcast. If you look closely, there's one white, one orange and one red card with her initials emblazoned on them. Although it's not clear what this easter egg could mean, fans are speculating that Taylor could be creating multiple variations of the album. Interesting...

Since the announcement, Sabrina Carpenter has been suggested as a potential collaborator. Not only did she support Taylor during The Eras Tour, but she's the only other person to appear in the photo carousel shared by Taylor Nation on TikTok. A coincidence?

Taylor's website makes it very clear that while the shipping date for physical copies of The Life of a Showgirl is 13th October, that it's not the release date. However, given the emphasis on the number 12 throughout this announcement, it wouldn't be too surprising if she released it on streaming platforms the day before. Miley Cyrus has made the difficult but important decision not to tour her latest album, Something Beautiful, which was released in May. With this, Miley appears to be honouring her needs, a move which can only be applauded, as she opened up about the motivation behind her decision in a new interview with Good Morning America.

One factor is that she's had some issues with her vocal cords recently, and she also added that she's learning to set "boundaries" and is prioritising her health. Miley explained: "I do have the physical ability, and I have the opportunities to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don't. I also don't think that there's actually an infrastructure that supports artists."

She explained: "There are artists like Prince that are not here today that lived such a high-intensity lifestyle out on the road, and it's really hard to maintain sobriety when you're on the road, which is a really important kind of pillar of stability in my life." Miley has been open about being sober in the past, telling Zane Lowe recently: "The sobriety is like, that’s like my God. I need it, I live for it. I mean that it’s changed my entire life."

On GMA, Miley added that touring artists run the risk of "not only losing their life but losing their minds" and said: "None of this that I create would ever be possible without the way that I think about things, and I do think it's really hard to keep mental wellness."

For the Hannah Montana alum, the adoration an artist feels onstage can be a slippery slope. She said: "You have so many thousands of people screaming at you, so, dopamine, you're feeling a lot of love, and then you totally crash at the end of the show, and you start thinking that one person loving you is not enough, it needs to be 10 thousand, it needs to be 80 thousand..."

But one thing Miley admits is that she isn't scared to dive into the unknown. She added: "I like to do things I'm afraid of. I've jumped out of airplanes. I've performed for 150,000 people. I've stood toe to toe with Beyoncé." It's not fear preventing her from touring, but an educated choice based on what she knows about herself. And we totally love that for her.

Taylor Swift fans have been waiting for Reputation (Taylor's Version) for years now, looking for clues of its release in everything from her outfits to her Instagram captions. However, it seemed that despite her fans' hopes, no album re-release was on the horizon. But this week, Taylor appeared to drop the biggest hint yet that the re-record of her 2017 album was coming.

During the latest episode of the hit TV series The Handmaid's Tale, there was some pretty concrete evidence that Rep TV is, in fact, on its way. In the show's sixth season, one scene uses pretty much the entirety of Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version) which - at the very least - means that parts of the album have been recorded, even if it is just that one song. According to The Hollywood Reporter, parts of the re-recorded track were already featured in Amazon's Wilderness in 2023, but the series only used small snippets at the time — nothing like the two minutes of music featured in The Handmaid's Tale.

The Hulu show shared the clip in its entirety on X recently - as did Universal Music Group - but both accounts ended up deleting the video, meaning fans have been left questioning if Taylor is planning the release imminently.

In the meantime, the latest theory is that Taylor is preparing to announce her final re-recording at the American Music Awards on 26th May, but over the last few years many theories like this have not come to fruition. As for the use of the song in The Handmaid's Tale, star and director Elisabeth Moss proved that she's also the ultimate Swiftie in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She said: "I’ve been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show, and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her, and I’m so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment."

She added: "Taylor has been such an inspiration to me personally. As a Swiftie myself, and I think I can speak for Yvonne [Strahovski] and our entire cast, who are all Swifties, it’s such an honour to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show."

However, in another twist to the tale, despite the fact that the clip was deleted from social media you can still find it on Hulu's YouTube channel.

In an industry dominated by men, the contributions of incredible Black women and visionary female leaders in music often go unnoticed. However, times are changing, and women are finally receiving the recognition they deserve for their outstanding work and impact on the music industry.

You’ve probably heard of Nigerian global music icon Wizkid, who has amassed phenomenal awards for his artistry — he recently released his new album Morayo and performed his new song Troubled Minds at the 2024 British Fashion Awards in London wearing Moncler in celebration of Remo Ruffini’s Trailblazer Award. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing his manager and the phenomenal mother of his children, Jada Pollock.

Jada is a Music manager and visionary entrepreneur who has worked with Chris Brown, Tinchy Strider and Skyla Tylaa. Jada has helped Wizkid achieve his global career and success and recently appeared in a two-part documentary series Queens of Music, a powerful celebration of Black female pioneers who have shaped the British music industry.

Watching the documentary, I loved seeing Jada open up about her role and share some of her personal stories and the challenges she faced after the birth of her son. Jada took us behind the scenes of her emotional journey, questioning whether she could withstand the intense pressure of continuing her music career, which was incredibly empowering and uplifting.

Over the Christmas period, I caught up with Jada, one of the best Christmas gifts, if I say so myself, and we spoke together about the invaluable life lessons she has learnt along the way in the music industry. Here’s what we discussed during our conversation.

MY LIFE IN MUSIC WITH JADA POLLOCK

Jada what’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself on your journey?

“The most surprising thing I've learned about myself on my journey is the depth of my strength and determination. I've discovered that I can push myself to my ultimate limits, often exceeding what I thought was possible.

I've also come to embrace multitasking at its highest level, seamlessly juggling various responsibilities and challenges while being a full-time present mum to two very energetic boys -This ability to adapt and thrive in demanding situations has not only showcased my resilience but also revealed a level of tenacity I didn't fully recognize in myself before. It's been an enlightening experience that has reshaped my understanding of my capabilities.”

How do you stay motivated and focused when facing setbacks or uncertainty?

“Honestly, I just stay focused and hopeful. I believe that positivity can be a powerful tool, and those who know me can attest to my optimistic outlook, even in challenging situations. I make a conscious effort to keep my faith high and remind myself that setbacks are often just stepping stones to success.

I'm naturally a bit of a risk-taker, which means I'm comfortable navigating uncertainty. This mindset helps me embrace challenges rather than shy away from them, allowing me to stay motivated and resilient no matter what I encounter.

When you think about where you started and where you are now, what are you most proud of about your journey?"
“When I reflect on my journey from where I started to where I am now, I feel an immense sense of pride in my bravery and the risks I've taken along the way to get here.. Growing up in South London, I often dreamed of the life I now lead. Infact, I’ve probably suppressed my very own dreams and ambitions.

Being able to work in the capacity I do with my partner, who happens to be one of the most talented musicians while being able to raise a family is one of the biggest blessings. As I turned 40, I experienced extreme anxiety, prompting me to ask myself a pivotal question: If you could ask your younger self where you would be at 40, what would you say?

My answer would be a resounding affirmation that I am exactly where I envisioned myself. This realization empowered me to embrace my journey fully, and since then, I've never looked back. I take pride in not only achieving my dreams but also in the courage it took to pursue them relentlessly.”

Is there any quote or mantra that has guided you through your life in music? If so, what is it, and how does it help you?

“One mantra that has always resonated with me in my journey as a music manager is, "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." This quote reminds me every day to really live life to your fullest and not to let life rule you. Leading with passion and creativity, and I repeat, always making sure you are internally happy as nothing will run well if your own wellbeing is not at the forefront.”

In managing artists, it's also crucial to prioritize their happiness and artistic integrity rather than just focusing on commercial success. This perspective has helped me navigate through my journey, ensuring that the artist's end goal is always the focus. When passion drives our efforts, success often follows as a natural outcome.”

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned about the importance of fashion in artist management?
Fashion serves as a powerful tool for self-expression, helping to establish an artist's identity and brand. As a music manager, one of the most valuable lessons I've learned about the importance of fashion is that an artist's visual presentation is just as crucial as their musical talent.

It can create a strong first impression and significantly influence how audiences perceive and connect with the artist. Ultimately, fashion not only helps in marketing the artist but also plays a role in storytelling, allowing them to convey emotions and themes in a visually compelling way.

What role does music play in your life outside of work? Are there songs or albums that hold deep personal meaning for you?

Music serves as a source of inspiration, relaxation, and emotional connection for me. I could not live life without it. It’s a way for me to unwind after a long day, transport myself to different times and places and feel good.

Certain songs and albums resonate with me on a personal level. For instance, albums that I grew up listening to, like Jodeci, SWV, and Mary J. Blige, often lift my spirits and remind me of some really amazing times. Wizkids album Sounds from the Other Side will always be a very special album to me. It brings powerful emotions, and I always find myself reflecting whenever I hear any song from that album.

What is the best advice you’ve been given in the industry that kept you going?

“Never give up” and become tunnel vision about everything that drives you. Embracing this mindset has been crucial in navigating challenges and staying motivated, ensuring that I keep pushing forward even when the journey gets tough.”

Award season is officially in sight, with the 67th Annual Grammy Awards being one of the first in the 2025 calendar.

This weekend, the Grammy nominations were officially announced, and they quite literally broke records.

Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone and Charli XCX fared well, earning seven nominations each. And following behind with six nominations were Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

However, it was Beyoncé who made history, receiving a whopping 11 nominations for her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. And taking her to 99 nominations over the span of her career, she has now become the most-nominated artist in Grammy history.

The 2024 Grammy Awards are officially here, with the 66th annual ceremony airing last night from Los Angeles. 

From Mariah Carey and Olivia Rodrigo to Oprah Winfrey and Taylor Swift, the evening was star-studded, and thanks to a very special performance by Joni Mitchell, it will go down as one for the ages.

Taylor Swift won the gong for album of the year for the fourth time, smashing the previous record, and leading the charge in a fantastic ceremony dominated by female winners.

The Grammys is one of the stand-out events of the award season calendar, and over the years there has been no shortage of memorable moments. 

This Sunday sees the 66th annual ceremony, and if this year's nominations are anything to go by, it is set to be a historic (and star-studded) evening.

Ahead of the awards, we're looking back at our favourite Grammy moments - from J-Lo's history-making Versace dress to Lady Gaga's iconic entrance in an egg. 

From a diva duo to that iconic Lady Marmalade performance, here are our most memorable Grammys moments... 

1. Jennifer Lopez's Versace dress

When we think of J-Lo, she's wearing this dress. J-Lo's green Versace dress is so iconic, it now has pride of place at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. 

As soon the triple threat stepped out onto the red carpet in 2000 the moment went down in history. We are not exaggerating when we say this dress is a part of history - it is the reason that Google image search exists.

2. Diva duo

The 2008 Grammys marked the moment that Tina Turner gave her first public performance after an eight year hiatus. 

Beyoncé joined her on stage to perform Proud Mary - the very song which Turner won a Grammy for in 1972. Name a more iconic duo, we'll wait.

Lady Gaga turning up to the 2011 Grammys in an egg, which is true Gaga fashion if we ever saw it. With a whole team carrying her across the red carpet, the Star is Born... or hatched. Gaga stayed in the semi see through egg the entire time, until her performance. 

4. Amy Winehouse's visa troubles (and incredible win)

The ceremony in 2008 hosted some of the most memorable Grammy moments. Remember Amy Winehouse's performance? You should do, as she fought hard to make it happen. The singer was unable to get a herself a work visa in time, but instead of disappointing her fans, Winehouse performed a set all the way from London. Yes, even though it was 3am. 

Here, Amy sits on stage while watching the Grammys on TV. She was awarded five out of six Grammy nominations that night, including song of the year and best female pop vocal performance. 

5. Adele dedicated her award to Beyoncé

Adele won Album of the Year in 2017, for her fan favourite album 25. But, she decided to dedicate it to Queen Bey instead. 

"I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled, and I’m very grateful and gracious, but the artist of my life is Beyoncé," said Adele in her acceptance speech. 

Possibly the sweetest Grammys acceptance speech ever, and definitely one of the most memorable. 

6. Michelle Obama's surprise appearance

Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance on stage, creating the line up of dreams. 

Joining the stage with Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez for the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019, she surprised everyone in attendance, sharing that "music always helped me tell my story."

7. Lady Marmalade live

In 2002, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Lil' Kim opened the boudoir doors on the Grammy stage to sing voulez-vous coucher avec moi? 

The robes, the costumes, not forgetting the vocals - this was equally as incredible as it is memorable. They were joined by the real Lady Marmalade herself, Patti LaBelle.

8. An unexpected pair 

Elton John and rapper Eminem created the most unexpected - albeit memorable - duo and performed together for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001. Fans loved the crossover of two very different characters and genres, and it went down a treat.

Awards season is here, and from the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards to the upcoming BRIT awards, there are non-stop celebrations across the film, TV and music industries. 

It was the Grammy Awards that made headlines this week, with the 66th annual awards set to take place on Sunday, honouring the "best recordings, compositions and artists".

SZA topped the nominations, taking home nine Grammy nods, while Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea, and Victoria Monét each received seven nominations.

Awards season is officially upon us, and while the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards have kicked off the celebrations around film, we're here for the musical recognitions. 

Yes, the Grammy's and the Brit Awards are within sight, with the latter releasing its nominations just this week.

Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware - you name it, they were nominated, including 26-year-old singer-songwriter Raye who landed a record-breaking seven nominations, becoming the first artist to receive that many in a single year.

“I am currently a mess of overwhelming emotions and confusion as to how this even happened to be honest," Raye explained of her new record, with the internet unsurprisingly tipping her as the biggest winner of the night.

Ed Sheeran is a huge Eminem fan, but his love for the rapper goes well beyond pure musical admiration.

The Subtract singer recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show and told a moving story about how rapping along to Eminem helped him cure his childhood stutter.

Howard told Ed that he didn't know the singer had had a birth mark removed from his face as a child, with the operation causing him to develop a stutter, and that that's why meeting Eminem had been so "emotional" for him.

Confirming the story, Ed said: "I was going through all sorts of speech therapy. When I was 9, my uncle bought me The Marshall Mathers LP. He just said to my dad, 'This guy's the next Bob Dylan.' My dad didn't really clock it, he's just like, 'OK, Edward's gonna go and listen to that.'

"And by learning that record, and by rapping it back to back to back to back, it cured my stutter. And I stopped... talking like that."

Ed went on to explain that he and Eminem (real name: Marshall Mathers) are repeat collaborators now.

"Years later, I've made songs with Eminem now, and we've got to know each other quite well, and he asked me to play 'Stan' with him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," he said.

"I remember getting the call to do it ... and I was shooting 14 music videos back to back ... It was on my day off from shooting the music videos and I was like, I can't say no."

In the end, Ed didn't say no, and he concluded: "It was worth it."

Ed and Marshall have recorded several songs together over the years, including "Last Night" and "River."

And although he is primarily a pop artist, Ed also regularly raps on his own songs, like he did on "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" for example.

The BRIT Awards have been one the UK's biggest music award ceremonies for 45 years, and with the 2023 BRIT Awards returning this weekend - the first time they've ever taken place on a Saturday night - we take a look at the biggest moments from the iconic show that we will never forget. 

While we love the BRIT award red carpet fashion, just as memorable are the performances from our favourite artists across the world, from Adele to the Spice Girls. Plus, those totally unexpected moments that leave everyone open mouthed (ahem, Madonna's cape). 

Here are the best BRIT Awards moments ever to get you excited for this weekend...  

1. The Spice Girls 

BRIT awards + the Spice Girls = an iconic moment in British history. In 1997, they performed Wannabe and Who Do You Think You Are - and we can still feel the girl power. 

There's no denying the band's influence. When Jay-z accepted his BRIT award in 2008, he let everyone know he was inspired by the Spice Girls - just like us.

2. Union Jack Geri

The performance was definitely memorable, but nothing is as iconic as Geri Halliwell's union jack dress. Even if you didn't watch their BRITs performance that night, you know this dress.

The best part? Apparently the union jack was actually a tea towel sewn onto the dress, according to The Mirror. 

And her stylist told her not to wear it - thank goodness she didn't listen.

3. Madonna's fall 

Only Madonna could fall and get right back up again. Apparently, her Armani cape was just a little too tight, and it was either fall or be strangled - so she went for the embarrassing but safer option. 

In true Madonna style, it didn't stop her putting on a show.

4. Anne Marie trips up too 

Madonna isn't the only one to take a tumble on the BRITs stage. Last year, Anne Marie fell during her performance of Kiss My and sprained her ankle in the process. Ouch.

It was her first ever BRITS performance but she followed in Madonna's footsteps and kept going with the vocals.

5. Amy Winehouse performs Rehab

6. Artic Monkey's mic drop

"Invoice me for the microphone if you need to." 

After accepting an award on behalf of the Arctic Monkeys in 2014, Alex Turner said that to the crowd before - you guessed it - dropping his mic. It was one small moment that instantly became added to the BRIT Awards memory book. 

7. Adele gets us all teary 

Adele gave a spine-tingling, no frills performance of Someone Like You in 2011, cementing her place as one of the UK's most talented artists. We still get a little emotional thinking about it now.

8. Adele is interrupted during her speech

Excuse me!? How could anyone interrupt Adele... 

But when the British icon accepted her speech, she was rudely interrupted. 

A year later, Adele was awarded Album of the Year, her speech was cut short by James Corden, which she took surprisingly well.. minus the middle finger.

Adele - who has confirmed how to pronounce her name - has kicked off her hotly anticipated Las Vegas residency, after she cancelled the string of shows last minute due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Hello hitmaker was due to take to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on 21 January 2022, until 16 April, but at the eleventh hour was forced to cancel the show, which caused quite the upset with fans who had travelled far and wide to watch the singing sensation helm the show. 

Adele has since rescheduled her 24-long show schedule - plus an extra eight dates - running from 18 November to 15 March 2023. 

After being one of the most talked about events in the music calendar, Adele finally took to the stage to belt out her hit records. 

However, the 34-year-old songstress was riddled with nerves prior to gracing the stage. 

She shared a heartfelt post on her Instagram prior to the show, in which she wrote: "I’m feeling all sorts as I write this. I’m highly emotional, incredibly nervous but can’t sit still because I’m so excited.

“I always get scared before shows, and I take it as a good sign because it means I care and means I just want to do a good job.

“But it’s safe to say I’ve never been more nervous before a show in my career, but at the same time I wish today was tomorrow! I can’t wait to see you out there x.”

However, all seemed to go better than expected for the power house - who has son Angelo with ex Simon Konecki - as she received a standing ovation from the audience. 

Even Adele admitted her debut show was "perfect", The Guardian has reported. 

Speaking in the midst of her set, Adele said: "Thank you so much for coming back to me.  It looks just like I imagined it would. It’s just perfect, thank you.

“I don’t get to go off stage for about 50 minutes so I’m going to have s****y face of streaked makeup for the whole first part of the show

"I’m so nervous and I’m so scared and I’m so happy. It might be a bit wobbly at times because my nerves are out of control ... it’s a bloody massive week for me this week. It’s the Walking Dead finale on Sunday!

Glastonbury festival is one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and getting a ticket to the event at Worthy Farm is no easy feat. If you've ever tried to get your hands on a pass for the five day extravaganza, you'll know that it can be a rather stressful ordeal - from registering, to gathering your pals to group-buy tickets, to attempting to get through the online queues from remote areas to stand a chance (more on that later). 

Glastonbury's pull is unavoidable. Whatever your age, musical tastes or required level of festival comfort, there really is something for everyone at the annual gathering in Somerset. Registration for Glastonbury 2024 opened earlier this year, and the first batch of tickets were set to be released on Thursday 2nd November. However, organisers have pushed back the release date by two weeks - so you'll be able to get your hands on the first batch of tickets on Thursday 16th November 2023 now instead. 

The decision was made 'to ensure that everyone who would like to buy a ticket is registered and therefore eligible to purchase one' according to organisers, who added: "It has come to light that some individuals hoping to buy tickets for 2024 have discovered after Monday’s registration deadline that they are no longer registered, despite believing they were."

The updated release date is 'out of fairness to those individuals' - so you've got an extra two weeks to prepare for the big day, and if you didn't register before the cut off date in October you have a chance to do it now. 

Glastonbury 2024 will take place from 26th to 30th June 2024. From how to get hold of tickets to the rumoured headliners, we have everything you need to know. 

When is Glastonbury 2024?

Glastonbury festival 2024 will take place at the site in Worthy Farm, Somerset, from Wednesday 26th - Sunday 30th June next year. Some festival-goers like to arrive a day or so earlier than the original kick off to set up camp and prepare for the days ahead. 

When do Glastonbury tickets go on sale?

Initially, the first release date was set for Thursday 2nd November 2023. However, it has now been pushed back to 6pm GMT on Thursday 16th November 2023 for those who wish to purchase a ticket with coach travel. 

But if you're simply looking for general admission tickets, they will be available from 9am GMT on Sunday 19th November 2023.

Where can I buy Glastonbury tickets?

You'll have to visit the official Glastonbury site here to get your hands on tickets for the 2024 festival. If you haven't yet registered, the postponed release date means that you now have another chance. The window for registration will reopen at 12 noon GMT on Monday 6th November and will remain open until 5pm GMT on Monday 13th November. 

Given that the rules changed this year, many regular attendees assumed that their previous registration would be carried over. However, all prospective Glastonbury goers are expected to re-register - and therefore organisers are hoping that by extending the window it gives everyone a fair chance.

How many tickets can you buy at one time? 

In short, you can buy six tickets with a deposit of £75 per person.

If you're buying tickets for multiple people, you will need everyone's registration numbers and postcodes in advance for a seamless checkout and to secure all six tickets. Many people create Glasto 'bubbles' of six people, but be warned - if people are in multiple 'bubbles' with different groups of friends, it could invalidate your purchase if one of the registration numbers has already been successfully awarded a ticket. So proceed with caution...

How much are Glastonbury tickets? 

The price of Glastonbury tickets now stands at £355 per ticket, plus a £5 booking fee. You can pay a £75 deposit per person on the day of ticket purchase, and pay off the remaining balance in April 2024. 

Over the last few years, ticket prices have consistently increased. Glastonbury 2020 tickets cost £265, meaning that the price tag has seen a £90 jump. 

Who is headlining Glastonbury 2024?

There are a number of rumours swirling around the Glastonbury 2024 headliners - and they're as varied as you might expect. Every year, the official list of performers is released around March or April - meaning that attendees will only know who they'll be able to see a couple of months ahead of the festival. 

As for the Glasto 2024 performers, organiser Emily Eavis appeared on the Sidetracked podcast and told Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw that the 'legend' slot on Sunday was confirmed to be a female artist. She said: "The 2024 lineup is still a little up in the air… And I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call - and this is what happens if you wait a little longer - because quite often we'll be booked up from July. This year we're holding out for a little bit longer and last week I got a call from a really big American artist saying this person's around next year, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible, thank God we held the slot.'"

So, who could it be? Many are guessing that Taylor Swift could make an appearance given that she has been rumoured to be part of the roster for a good few years now, but fans have pointed out that the dates clash with her Eras Tour gigs in Dublin. Other names in the ring are Dua Lipa, Madonna and Beyonce, plus Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay could be a possibility.

Hacks to secure Glastonbury tickets

Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but there are a tips to maximise your chances when it comes to securing Glastonbury tickets. 

1.Registration

It's vital that you register before the tickets go on sale. The window has been re-opened, so if you haven't registered yet you have another chance from 12 noon GMT on Monday 6th November until 5pm GMT on Monday 13th November.

Registration is super simple. All you need to do is upload your details, along with a recent photograph of yourself, in this form here when the window opens next week.

2. Spreadsheet and shared notes

If you're a spreadsheet fan, this will likely be your designated job. Once you and your friends have had your registration confirmed, it's a good idea to rally your pals and set up an Excel doc or shared iPhone note where you can all add your details - registration code, names, addresses and postcodes - to make securing the tickets as easy as possible. When it comes to sale day, you can all separately attempt to get your six tickets and the first one through will have all the necessary information. The timeframe between getting through to the purchase page and checking out is very narrow - so you need to be quick.

3. To coach or not to coach?

While it is paramount you have all the registration numbers for the group you are booking with or for, it is also essential to know whether you are booking a general admission ticket or a ticket with coach travel. This is a must, because tickets go on sale on different days. 

4. Get that money, honey

The full balance for tickets isn't needed until April, but you do need to pay a deposit per person. This year, that is £75 per attendee, and if you're booking tickets with coach travel it will incur an extra fee. 

You'll be given a date for the final payment in due course, but it is usually in the first week of April. 

5. Multiple devices

Seasoned Glastonbury goers often use multiple devices to try and get their hands on tickets. If you've got access to a phone, iPad, laptop, desktop - you can try using all and any of them. And if you live with others, there's no harm in asking if they can chip in, too. 

There is speculation that those attempting to get through the queue from more sparsely populated areas are more successful - so if you want to test that theory too, best give your friends across the country a call...

6. Set an alarm

It goes without saying you need to be on time for the sale to open. In the past, tickets have sold out in 30 minutes - so it's worth being set up and ready when the time comes. 

7. Ditch Wi-Fi

This may sound like an odd tip, but on Glasto superfan previously told NME that he has been successful in securing tickets every year since 2014 due to the fact that he hasn't relied on WiFi. Max Brookes said that he uses his 4G network instead, saying that it ensures quicker connection. 

Others have claimed that trying a different VPN is a popular tactic as the traffic from the UK is so intense. 

8. Re-sale

If you miss out on the first round of ticket sales, there is usually a re-sale in March. While it is unknown if this will be the case for Glastonbury 2024, it has been an option in previous years - so don't lose hope.

As the Spice Girls tease another reunion, we've been practicing our best peace poses, frantically looking for a Union Jack dress online, and listening to the Wannabe rap on repeat because no one wants to fall short when that banger comes on, do they?

Except, when you look up the lyrics you'll find that you actually had no idea what you were singing all along.

Warning: You'll never be able to hear it in the same way ever again. Especially when you think of how often you'd belt it out aged seven.

We recently found out what zig-ah-zig-ah means, and that blew our minds, but wait until you hear this.

It turns out the official lyrics are: 'So here's a story from A to Z/You wanna get with me you gotta listen carefully/We got Em in the place who likes it in your face/We got G like MC who likes it on an/Easy V doesn't come for free, she's a real lady/And as for me, ha you'll see.'

Still no idea what it all means? It's actually a break down of each Spice Girl's sexual preferences. And no one had any idea.

Let's break it down.

'We've got Em in the place' is likely a reference to Emma/Baby Spice who, apparently, 'likes it in your face'. Pretty self explanatory.

Then 'we got G like MC' (Geri and Mel C) who 'like it on an e' - this one really caught us off guard. Who knew that we've been unknowingly singing that for over twenty years?

'Easy V' actually gets it very easy because she doesn't come for free - 'she's a real lady', so congrats Posh.

And Mel B's is steeped in mystery as we'll just have to see what she's all about.

Surprised? Same.

Barack Obama - who has daughters Sasha and Malia with former First Lady and wife Michelle Obama - has curated a 42-strong musical playlist with his favourite artists, tracks, and upbeat singles to get you on your feet this summer.

He shared the full list on his Instagram account with his 35.4 million followers, which he captioned: "

Talks it could be for a special someone's birthday

We have been desperate for a Spice Girls reunion for far too long.

Over the last 10 years, we have got our hopes up over growing speculation the iconic girl band, featuring Geri Horner, Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton, will reunite.

The Wannabe hitmakers were rumoured to join forces for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June, although this didn't quite happen, and there are talks they will headline Glastonbury 2023, as well as a possible collaboration for Geri's 50th birthday bash later this year.

It has been reported Geri - who was known as Ginger Spice in the group - will celebrate the milestone in style on September 17.

For the upcoming do she is hoping to be joined on stage with her friends, and band members, to belt out the hit records we all know and love.

If this does go ahead, which we are hoping and praying it does, it will mark the first time since the group sang all together since the London 2012 Olympics.

Speaking about Geri's birthday plans, a source told The Sun Online: "It’s going to be an amazing night.

“It’s a seated, black tie do and the theme is Timeless Elegance.

"Loads of Geri and her husband Christian’s celeb pals will be there and, excitingly, Geri is inviting all the Spice Girls — including Victoria

“It’s being held in a Grade II listed manor in Oxfordshire which, conveniently, is just a stone's throw from David and Victoria’s Cotswolds manor.

“The girls can’t wait to reunite and the plan is for all five of them to sing Happy Birthday and get up on stage to join Geri for a number — possibly Wannabe.

“One of the girls turning 50 is a massive deal — they all want to mark the occasion in style, and reuniting after a decade seems the perfect time.”

Spice Girls reunited for a world tour in 2017, however, Victoria was absent from the line up to focus on her fashion career, although she has teased she will be making a comeback.

The singer shared his thoughts in a recent podcast interview

While K-Pop group BTS may be going on a "temporary break," another boyband could soon rise from the ashes and fill the void.

After One Direction announced a hiatus in 2015, rumours about whether they would return to the scene have resurfaced every few years - and now Harry Styles is weighing in. He may have gone on to have a wildly successful solo career, but it turns out the singer still has a soft spot for One Direction.

The 'As it Was' singer, who recently released his newest album Harry’s House, was a guest on The Spout and spoke with host Tamara Dhia about everything from making music to being in love. The topic of Harry’s former boyband naturally came up over the course of their conversation, with Dhia asking if they would ever reunite.

Harry didn’t shoot down the possibility, responding, “I don’t know. I mean, the thought of it is really nice.”

He recalled having lots of fun working on a number of One Direction’s albums, as well as their early days. He continued, "I think we all went through something really special together and there’s a lot of love there. So yeah, I think if there’s a moment for us to do it in the right way, I think it’d be great.”

While all of the band’s members have gone on to pursue their own solo projects, many of them have occasionally chimed in on a possible reunion or reminisced on their old days. Singer Liam Payne was the most recent to light up social media with his controversial comments about another One Direction member, Zayn Malik - which could make any potential plans for a reunion awkward.

Speaking to former Vine star Logan Paul on his podcast Impaulsive, Payne revealed their friendship is a troubled one. He said, “There’s many reasons why I dislike Zayn, and many reasons I will always be on his side.”

As he vaguely suggested Zayn had been through difficult times throughout One Direction, he said, “I can’t commend some of the things he’s done, I can’t be on his side for that. What I can say is I understand, and I hope that - you only hope is that at some time in their life that the person on the other end of the phone wants to receive the help you’re willing to give them.”

In any case, Zayn doesn’t seem to have shut the door on One Direction forever. Just last week, One Direction fans were treated to a surprise when he took to Instagram and recorded himself singing part of the band’s song ‘You and I.’ 

While Zayn didn’t caption his post and let his vocals do the talking, other fans in the comments celebrated the video. One user wrote, “Zayn you have summoned the whole fandom.”

"Right now, we’ve lost our direction."

After sweeping the world with their hits ‘Butter’ and ‘Dynamite,’ K-pop group BTS has announced they will be taking a “temporary break” to pursue their solo careers. In a livestream posted to their YouTube channel, the group revealed they wanted to take a step back to figure out the “direction” BTS was headed in and added they were “exhausted.”

In the video, the group’s seven members came together to celebrate their nine year anniversary as well as say goodbye to the house they all live in together - as the lease contract for it was expiring. As they reminisced on their time in the house over dinner, BTS member Suga brought up the topic of their break.

“We’re going into a temporary break now…we have to talk about the direction we’re taking,” he said, looking directly at his fellow member RM.

Eventually, RM explained the group had “definitely changed” after they were propelled onto the international stage with hits such as ‘Dynamite’, ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’. In translated captions on their YouTube video, he said, “Right now, we’ve lost our direction.”

He added that due to their relentless schedule over the pandemic and the way the K-pop idol system works, the band had become “exhausted” and additionally had “no time left for growth.” He and numerous other band members discussed how they felt directionless while writing music for the band, and wanted to take time over the break to think more carefully about the message BTS wanted to share with their world and their fanbase, who call themselves ARMY.

RM continued, “Right now when we’re at our best, I feel like I should be contributing something to the world. But I don’t know what that is.”

In a statement to Billboard, a BTS spokesperson said, “To be clear, they are not on hiatus, but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various formats.”

According to Bloomberg, shares of BTS’ agency Hybe Co. “sank as much as 28%” on Wednesday, effectively “wiping out as much as $1.7 billion in market value.”

BTS also teased their upcoming solo projects in the video, with j-hope hinting he was going to be the first to release new work. The singer is one of the band’s members to have already successfully pursued a solo career, releasing hits such as ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ over the pandemic.

Singer j-hope, who wiped away tears at one point in the broadcast, added, “[The break] is an important part for BTS to start our second chapter.”

Eurovision legends ABBA reunited for their first outing together in 36 years yesterday evening.

The iconic Swedish foursome attended the opening night of their ABBA Voyage concert residency at the so-called ABBA Arena in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. 

This space-age sounding string of concerts is exactly that - life-size avatars of the Benny Andersson, 75, Agnetha Fältskog, 72, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, 76, and Björn Ulvaeus, 77 will perform on stage, playing the band’s most beloved hits to a stadium of fans. 

The state-of-the-art concert is set to run until 2025 and features the band members as they looked in the 1970s heydey wearing head-to-toe sequin numbers and singing hits including SOS, Voulez-Vous and Lay All Your Love On me.

To create the spectacle, the band had to don special motion capture suits for five weeks, while 160 cameras scanned their body movements and facial expressions. The An 850-strong team from Industrial Light & Magic, the company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, led the company’s first foray into music.

The event opening was attended by the great and the good of Hollywood and even royalty. Everyone from Keira Knightley with her husband James Righton, Kylie Minogue, Matt Lucas, Sharleen Spiteri, Jarvis Cocker, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kate Moss walked the red carpet to support the musical icons. Such is the band’s cultural significance that Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia even flew in for the launch.

The concerts are tied in with ABBA’s latest and final album Voyage, which came out last year. 

Explaining the process, Björn told The Sun: “It’s very emotional at times. The lifesize avatars that you see on stage together with the live musicians, you have to pinch yourself. Even I get the feeling that they really are there.”

But if we had gone on tour we would have played something like this.”

The 6,710-square-metre theatre will host eight shows a week from next spring and will allow for a 360-degree immersive experience.

On Saturday the Eurovision Song Contest returns to our screens. We can't wait. We love everything about it. The outfits, the nul points, and of course Graham Norton's deliciously scathing commentary.

This year's competition is taking place in Turin, Italy and yesterday at the semi-finals Ukraine confirmed its place in the final.

Its entry Stefania by Kalush Orchestra, a folk-rap band, is now the favourite to win the competition.

The band have gained legions of fans ever since it was announced they would be taking part in the contest, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Band member Oleh Psiuk told the BBC: 'For our country, it is so important to have victories in all ways. So if we win, it will be another opportunity to show Ukraine to the world, to remind people about Ukraine, and to increase morale in the whole country.'

It will be a huge night for the country if its song wins and its commentator told BBC Radio 5 Live that a special bunker had been built to ensure that he is able to continue with his broadcast even if there's an air raid.

Timur Miroshnychenko explained 'For Ukrainians, we love the Eurovision Song Contest and it’s very important for us even right now, even if for two hours in the evening, all if all of us can hold a peaceful life.’

Russia has been banned from competing this year. Officials announced that allowing the country to take part 'would bring the competition into disrepute.'

We'll definitely be watching on Saturday and cheering Kalush Orchestra on.

Florence Welch has bravely opened up about her battle with anorexia when she was younger.

The 35-year-old singer has revealed the eating disorder made her think she didn't "deserve to eat" or to "feel comfortable."

Though Florence has overcome the condition, she has admitted the "anorexic thinking" lives on and clouds her thoughts in other areas of her life.

Speaking to Rolling Stones magazine, the Dog Days Are Over hitmaker said: "Anorexic thinking is still part of my life, even though the anorexia itself isn’t.

"And so, with emotional intimacy, which is kind of like being fed, sometimes you can be like, 'No, that’s too much, I don’t need it.'"

Florence has previously discussed her illness and the impact the coronavirus pandemic had on her, as she has shared there was a point during the two years she was the closes she had ever been to relapsing.

Speaking previously to British Vogue, she said: "I really empathise with anyone who did relapse in those two years because I think it was probably the closest I've ever thought about it.

'There were moments when I was like, 'Should I be starting to cut back on my sugar? Or should I do a cleanse?' And that for me is just a slippery slope."

Florence came through it, and has thanked her support network for helping her to avoid the disorder, and not to be "ashamed" about the thoughts either.

She shared: "Luckily, I have people I can talk to and that's one of the most important things for anyone – to keep talking about it. And not to be ashamed if those thoughts come up."

Florence has openly admitted to battling with anxiety, and had a panic attack prior to receiving her the Critic’s Choice award at the Brits in 2009.

Speaking in a separate interview with The Independent, she said: "I still have it. How I ‘deal’ with anxiety is that I go to work. So, I couldn’t even go to work during the pandemic because I’m not a home studio person. I go and make things and that really helps me process anxiety.”

Despite her struggles she feels her best yet, especially when it comes to her performances.

Florence - who is set to release her new album Dance Fever this week - said:"I feel at 35 that I’m finally at the best my performance can be. I really feel like I know what I’m doing. The performance wasn’t as honed [when Florence was younger]. I feel like now I have really worked on it.”

Sarah Harding tragically passed away in September 2021

Girls Aloud are set to reunite for the first time in almost 10 years to honour the late Sarah Harding.

Sarah tragically passed away in September last year after being diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in August 2020.

The group, which is made up of Cheryl Tweedy, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts, will rejoin as a foursome for a one-off gig in memory of their band member, in a bid to raise funds for medical equipment to help detect cancer earlier.

The Love Machine hitmaker's were said to be planning a reunion tour to mark the band's 20th anniversary, but this was scrapped after the loss of Sarah.

While the full string of concerts has been ditched, the one-off concert is in the pipeline for later this year, although a date has yet to be confirmed.

Speaking about the plans Nadine, 36, said: "We’re planning a night for an event to raise money in honour of Sarah.

“We want to do something to help others. She’s very much in the forefront of our minds.

“When she became unwell, a lot of my energy was focused on her. Her passing has been so devastating.”

Kimberley clarified the plan for the gig on BBC's Morning Live, she said: "I feel like I need to just clear this up a little bit.

"So there won’t be a reunion as such, we’re not going to be getting back on stage together. We still just don’t feel ready to get back on stage without Sarah. But we are planning an industry fundraiser for her in her memory, to raise as much money as we possibly can for cancer research.

"She asked us to do this and it’s really important for us that we make it a big event. It’s all about [raising money]."

Girls Aloud formed on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, and garnered huge success over the years, as they were nominated for five Brit Awards, and honoured with the Best Single at the annual music ceremony for The Promise n 2009.

They performed for the last time as a five-piece girl group in 2013, but reunited in 2020 on a private trip to the Cotswolds after Sarah was diagnosed with the terminal illness.

Spice Girls are rumoured to reunite this year, and headline Glastonbury in 2023.

The iconic 90s girl group are in talks to embark on a world tour next year, which is tipped to end with a swan song show being Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage, which takes place in June at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham have not performed as a five piece band for almost a decade, but it is said Posh Spice is on board the Glastonbury gig, which would bring the fivesome together for the first time.

A source told The Sun: "There have been bumps in the road, particularly where Geri is concerned, but the plan is still that the girls’ world tour will go ahead next year.

"The idea is that it will kick off in 2023, and finish at Glastonbury.

"Victoria has previously said that she would perform with them at the festival. So that would be the perfect way to round off the tour."

The Wannabe hitmakers were tipped to perform at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee later this summer, but the plans have been scrapped because of "logistics".

The insider continued: "You’re going to need to ask Geri about that one.

"The Spice Girls will definitely not be performing at the Queen’s Jubilee, though that is not just down to Geri, as Mel hinted initially.

"They are all working on different projects, and when they sat down to look at the logistics they decided there was not enough time to make it work. They just would have not been able to squeeze in the rehearsal time they needed for the concert.

“However, that isn’t to say that everybody was happy with that outcome. Mel B and Emma, in particular, seemed very disappointed to be saying no. It would have been a real honour, and that was not lost on them."

Harry Styles is set to release new music this month, with a brand new track set to drop in just a matter of weeks.

The Sun Online has reported the former One Direction band member has returned to the music business, and has been working on a hotly anticipated third album. We couldn't be happier.

A source told the media outlet: "Harry’s lead single is coming this month and his fans are in for a real treat.

"He has worked so hard on this track and it’s going straight to No1."

The publication has reported Harry, 28, was spotted filming an upcoming music video for his new release outside London's Buckingham Palace just a few weeks ago.

The insider has teased in true Harry fashion, his music video will be "incredible", from the outfits he wears to the location.

“The video is going to be just as good as the song. While fans might think they have seen it all, Harry actually saved the best bit for behind closed doors.

International Women's Day falls on 8 March this year, but The Spice Girls band member, Mel C, is proud the band has been encouraging empowerment for decades.

Mel C - who is most commonly known as Sporty Spice, although her full name is Melanie Chisholm - joined the award-winning group in 1994 alongside Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner, who was formerly Halliwell, and for decades they have been championing "girl power".

Though the 48-year-old singer is blown away by their musical success, what appears to have touched her most is hearing stories about how the iconic girl group have empowered and encouraged people worldwide.

Speaking on Annie MacManus' podcast, Changes, ahead of IWD, she said: "We came out shouting about girl power and quickly realised we had a huge following in the LGBT+ community too. That has followed all of us. And it has just been such a wonderful opportunity.

"I can’t tell you how many stories I have heard about how The Spice Girls gave them the strength and courage to be who they truly wanted to be."

Mel C also resonates with the band's slogan, and while she has encouraged fans and listeners to believe in themselves and their abilities, to aim high and be successful, she also urges people to take time out so not to burn out.

Sharing her top tips to feel empowered ahead of International Women's Day, she said: "We are always trying to better ourselves, it is quite a female thing. You really are good enough. Look at your achievements. You have done the most incredible things.

"It is good to be ambitious but give yourself a break and a little pat on the back, because we have done amazing things."

But Mel C never realised until later years how powerful The Spice Girls' message was, and the positive impact they had on people worldwide.

She said: "I feel goosebumps even now. If we are all in a room, there is a spark. We were so single-minded. The biggest thing about The Spice Girls is we are so different. It spoke to so many people.

"I always refer back to being on stage in 2019 and get emotional. It was the moment I began to understand and accept it — we have affected a generation of people."

The Spice Girls are tipped to reunite for the first time as a five-piece band in 10 years this summer, as they are rumoured to be performing at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June this year, although they have yet to confirm the gig.

Glastonbury Festival is the festival of all festivals.

After being cancelled for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, festival founders and organisers, Michael and Emily Eavis, are bringing back the hotly anticipated UK festival this summer, which will take place at Worthy Farm, Somerset, from 22 to 26 June.

Sir Paul McCartney has been confirmed as one of the headliners for Glastonbury Festival 2022, alongside Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish and Diana Ross, at the Worthy Farm, in Somerset, location in June.

The Beatles band member performed in 2004, and was set to take to the stage in 2020. Now, the Hey Jude hitmaker will return 18 years later to take to the iconic Pyramid Stage on Saturday 25 June.

Emily has admitted having the music legend grace the stage is a "dream" come true.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: "When he finally confirmed, we were beyond [excited]. For us, having Paul McCartney is obviously a dream, a huge moment in our history. It means the world getting Paul McCartney to Glastonbury."

Paul, 80, confirmed he was headlining the world famous festival on social media with a cryptic post, which saw him share a Wordle clue on his Twitter account last month.

While Paul takes to the stage on Saturday, Kendrick Lamar will headline Sunday's leg and the Bad Guys hitmaker, Billie, will perform on Friday.

Diana Ross will also perform on the final day of Glastonbury, while performances by Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde, Megan Thee Stallion, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Charli XCX, Crowded House, Celeste, Arlo Parks, Doja Cat, and Haim, as well as Burna Boy and many more artists, will also grace the stage over the weekend extravaganza.

Emily has also confirmed this year's festival will see funds raised donated to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal, as well as other charities, including WaterAid, Oxfam and Greenpeace.

Glastonbury will take place on 22 June until 26 June, and it's safe to say it is the place to be this summer.

The 34 year old singer made a spectacular entrance to Dior's Paris fashion week show on Tuesday, exposing her growing baby bump in a lace, baby doll dress and vintage Dior trench coat.

In a video that has since gone viral, Rihanna is seen entering the venue, while a bystander is heard repeatedly shouting "you're late", to which the icon merely gives a cursory side-eye and replies with the iconic two words: "no s**t".

Speaking on a podcast, Sporty Spice said she thinks the iconic band got "lucky"

Mel C, perhaps better known by her moniker Sporty Spice, appeared on DJ Annie Mac's podcast, Changes, reminiscing about her experience in the most iconic girl band of all time.

Much to the host's surprise, Mel C (Melanie Chisolm) revealed that she didn't believe that herself or her bandmates were particularly gifted: "We still laugh about it now because we are just so average in so many ways."

“We’re not special. But we were able to create something really special that so many people could identify with.”

Chisolm who was promoting her new autobiography Who I am, My Story, was refreshingly candid about the impact of extreme fame, the emotional toll of her divorce from her husband in 2017, as well as reflecting on her musical capabilities, or lack therof.

The Spice Girls formed in 1994, and consisted of Mel C, Melanie Brown (Scary Spice); Emma Bunton (Baby Spice); Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice); and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice). The band members were subject to a rigorous auditioning process by Bob and Chris Herbert, who were looking to create a girl band that could compete with the popular boy bands of the day like Take That.

After signing to Virgin records in 1994, the group released their iconic debut single "Wannabe" in 1995 and their first album Spice, which went on to sell 23 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group in history.

At one point in the conversation Chisolm grew noticeably emotional, telling Macmanus she had erupted in goosebumps as she reflected on how she feels seeing her old bandmates nowadays: "even now, when we're all in a room together, there's a spark you know? It's like something magic happens.

“We were lucky – all the stars aligned. All these great things happened but there’s something unexplainable about the five of us – it’s just magical.

“We have this shared vision – it just gave us this strength and this power.”

Regardless of their musical prowess, we reckon that the Spice Girls defined a generation, their "girl power" mantra led to arguably a new wave of feminism and cemented them as pop culture icons.

Britney Spears' fans are desperate for the singer to headline the Super Bowl next year - and we are in full support too.

The Toxic hitmaker recently shared a throwback clip of her taking to the stage in the NFL halftime show back in 2001, as she joined headliners Aerosmith and NSYNC on stage to belt out Walk This Way. 

She captioned the post with just three rose emojis on her Instagram account.

Britney, 40, was a special guest for the halftime show, as well as Mary J Blige and Nelly, but has yet to be the main headliner for the annual championship game, which takes place every February.

The throwback didn't stop the singer and songwriter's fans from showing their support, and encouraging her to helm the hotly anticipated performance next year.

Fellow singer, Willie Gomez, commented: "THE BEST!! You need to go back and headline it that would be EPIC."

Another added: "We need you next year!!!"

A third shared: "Britney live super bowl 2023", a phrase that was repeated by several other Instagram users throughout the comment section.

"You deserve your own full superbowl halftime show", a separate fan shared, while another urged: "now do it again in 2023 but instead do a solo halftime show."

Britney - who has sons Sean and Jayden with ex Kevin Federline - has hit the headlines in recent months surrounding the end of her conservatorship, which was held by her father Jamie Spears.

The music sensation has previously claimed the conservatorship prohibited her from performing music she wanted to, which made her not want to perform anymore.

A tearful Adele broke down in tears as she confirmed her Las Vegas residency has been cancelled.

The 33-year-old singer was reportedly set to take to the stage with a 60-strong choir to perform her top hits at Ceasars Palace's Colosseum on Friday 21 January as part of her 24-show residency, which would have marked her first live concert in five years, but had to cancel the show last minute because COVID19 had effected her crew and delayed equipment.

The Hello hitmaker took to her official Instagram account to share the upsetting news, much to her dismay.

Speaking in a heartfelt video, the powerhouse said: "Listen, I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready.

"We've tried absolutely everything we can to put it together, in time, and for it to be good enough for you, but we have been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID. Half my crew, half my team are down with covid, they still are. It's been impossible to finish the show."

Despite various attempts to bring the show together, which has seen Adele and her team stay awake for 'over 30 hours' to find a solution, she has regretfully had to forgo all shows.

She continued: 'I can't give you what I have right now. I am gutted, I am so sorry it's so last minute.

'We have been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out. We have run out of time, and I am so upset and really embarrassed. I am so sorry to everyone who has travelled again. I am really really sorry. I'm really sorry.'

Adele has insisted she is 'on it' and plans to reschedule all of the cancelled dates.

'We are on it, we are going to reschedule all of the dates, we are on it right now. And I am going to finish my show, and I am going to get it where it's supposed to be.

'We have been up against so much and it just ain't ready. I'm really sorry', Adele's clip continued.

It has been reported Adele fans have splashed over £9,000 on resold tickets, and that the proposed rescheduled shows could be delayed up until June this year or 2023.

She said:'I've shows in the UK this year, and I hope we can get together then. I do not want anyone to miss out. I just want to send my love to all those who have been left disappointed. From the bottom of my heart I am sorry.'

Despite her emotional announcement, Adele has taken to Twitter to thank her devoted fans, also knowns as Daydreamers, for their support.

Celine Dion has announced she has been forced to cancel the remaining leg of her Courage World Tour in North America due to "recent health issues".

The 53-year-old singer and songwriter confirmed the news on her Instagram account on Saturday 15 January, much to her own disappointment.

The My Heart Will Go On hitmaker shared a picture of the announcement in the form of a press release on the photo-sharing site, which detailed the reason behind the cancelled dates, which was rescheduled for March 9 to April 22.

It read: "Celine Dion today announced that as her recover from a recent health issue continues, she unfortunately myst cancel the remaining shows of the North American leg of her "Courage World Tour" previously reschedule for March 9 - April 22, 2022."

Celine has been battling "persistent muscle spasms", which are plaguing her and preventing her from taking to the stage to belt out her iconic ballads.

The post continues: "Celine had completed the first 52 shows on the tour before the pandemic emerged in March 2020, but recently had been treated for severe and persistent muscle spasms, which are preventing her from performing, and her recovery is taking longer than she hoped.

"Her medical team continues to evaluate and treat the condition."

Celine's post continued with a personal message from her, which she also posted as a caption.

She wrote: "I was really hoping that I’d be good to go by now, but I suppose I just have to be more patient and follow the regimen that my doctors are prescribing. There’s a lot of organizing and preparation that goes into our shows, and so we have to make decisions today which will affect the plans two months down the road.

"I’ll be so glad to get back to full health, as well as all of us getting past this pandemic, and I can’t wait to be back on stage again.

"Meanwhile, I’ve been very touched by all the words of encouragement that everyone’s been sending to me on social media. I feel your love and support and it means the world to me. - Celine xx"

Yup just keep twisting that knife, Corona...

It's no secret that every major music event has been cancelled this year. But considering just how tricky it is to secure a ticket for Glastonbury, the news that this year’s celebration was a no-go hit different for disappointed ticket holders.

Cancelled shortly after it’s first wave of acts was confirmed, the 50th Anniversary of the world renowned arts festival was due to welcome the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Sir Paul McCartney as headliners, with Diana Ross confirmed for the legends slot.

With those who had already put down their ticket deposits being given the option to roll over to the next festival, revellers have held on to hopes that they’ll be dancing in the mud (rain or shine) at Worthy Farm in 2021.

But as it turns out, the wait may be longer than anticipated.

Yes, according to Glastonbury’s head honcho himself, Michael Eavis, the festival may not be returning until 2022 - due to the high numbers that attend.

Speaking on ITV News West Country, Eavis, who organises the festival with his daughter, Emily, said: ‘500 people is okay, isn’t it. But 250,000 altogether is too many people, I suppose, isn’t it.’

‘I’m still hoping I’m going to be running next year and I’m going to be moving heaven and earth to make sure that we do. But that doesn’t mean it will necessarily happen. That is just wishful thinking really.’

Despite fears that the festival might have to take a two-year hiatus, the 84 year-old is confident that the legendary festival will come out the other end of the pandemic stronger than ever.

He said: ‘No, I do not worry at all, I am so confident that it will survive. The only certainty I think is the year after, 2022.’

‘But I am still hoping and we are fighting and working at it all the time to make sure it happens next year.’

He added: ‘You can’t kill it off just like that. It will come back, probably stronger actually.’

She’s written songs for some of the biggest artists in the business, but now it’s Raye’s turn in the spotlight...

With two massive hit singles under her belt (Secrets and Tequila with Jax Jones and Martin Solveig) singer-songwriter Raye (real name Rachel Agatha Keen) has amassed over 1 billion streams of her music, as well as writing for artists like Beyoncé, John Legend, Little Mix and Ellie Goulding, to name but a handful. Her latest single, Natalie Don’t, is part of an upcoming seven-track music project, expected later this summer. Here, she fills us in on the inspiration behind it…

Your new music was inspired by the seven stages of grief. Can you tell us about it?

Over the last two years I had my first taste of real heartbreak and losing someone you love, so I was writing and picking out songs that really pinpointed these different stages. I’m very dramatic - I'm a Scorpio and feel love very intensely. I was on tour with Khalid when I was in stage one. And even though I had been apart from this person for a while, it hit me really hard. I would come off stage crying and I posted stories with tears in my eyes, like ‘I'm so heartbroken’! I was losing my mind but I ended up writing Love Me Again. And gradually, as I've been healing and understanding the different stages, I completed the seven stages with my final song. Now, I’m ready to wrap it up and put it into a project so people can understand how I’ve handled the loss of love.

What an amazing way to deal with heartache, to create. It must feel cathartic?

For sure. I feel so blessed I can put my heartache and negative energy into creating something beautiful. It’s saved me - without that, I don't know what I would have turned to to find my comfort.

Natalie Don’t is inspired by Dolly Parton. Was she an influence growing up?

I think Dolly Parton is one of the best songwriters of of all time. And the song Jolene, I remember hearing it as a little girl and being very moved – as I think every human being is. There's something about the energy of that song that I experienced myself and I wanted to translate it in my own way. But because I was aware that Jolene has been executed in the most incredible way, I wanted to make sure I mentioned the song in my song so people weren’t like, ‘Oh, Raye's stealing it’. I wanted people to know I’ve heard Jolene and this is my modern-day Jolene.

Dolly famously plays a lot of instruments. Do you?

I play the piano and a little bit of guitar. I used to play the cello and the flute. I'm a proper muso. And now I'm officially an engineer because over lockdown I bought all these different compressors and microphones. So now I can go into the studio, record my own vocals and hand it in. It's really great these skills I’m learning.

Raye

As a female artist, does the ability to create and put out your own music without needing help feel empowering?

100%. I just got an email from my teacher at Brit school who wanted me to come and speak to the kids. I remember being in school like, ‘One day, I want to do well enough that I'm invited back’. And I was thinking, what would I tell them? Well, I’d say, you need to be independent, especially as a woman. Because coming up in the industry and walking into these rooms, if you don't understand what's going on, you become dispensable. Being able to create - with or without a man in the room - is so important. Learning how to use software, how to use equipment, knowing what microphone you need to use. It’s all really important.

You’ve spoken about equality within the industry and predatory producers. Is that something you've experienced personally?

I’ve experienced it more times than I can count, in many different shapes and forms. From commenting on what I'm wearing to ‘Oh Raye, can you come to this room? Let’s talk for a bit’ then…bang. Even when I go to the studio, I feel I can’t dress how I want to dress. I have to put a big T-shirt and trackies on, you know? I'm not saying every male producer is like that because that's not the case. There are so many incredible lovely producers I feel completely safe around, but there are also a lot I don't feel comfortable around. It's really sad that I now make sure I bring a friend with me so that I'm protected and not vulnerable, because you just never know what can happen. These little things have happened so many times, not just to me but a lot of female artists.

That's shocking.

Yeah, especially when I'm quite loud and confident. I’ll speak up if I feel something's wrong or I feel uncomfortable and say ‘I don't feel well, I’m leaving’. But I know artists who aren’t confident can be so easily manipulated with, ‘If you do this for me then I'll help your career’. It’s nuts to be honest. But I think since the #MeToo movement things are starting to improve because men realise if you fuck up now, you’re going to get caught.

Who else inspired you growing up?

Jill Scott really inspired me growing up. I fell in love with her album Who Is Jill Scott, it’s one of my favourites. Nina Simone was another very big one. Her tone of voice is unmatched and she really took a risk, speaking out to the black community at a time when everyone around her - including her manager - was like, ‘Don't do it’. She was like, ‘I'm gonna play these hard-to-listen-to songs about what's happening to my black people in front of a white audience and you're going to listen to it!’. I was so moved by that bravery. I listened to a lot of gospel music as well.

You've written for some huge artists. Who would you like to write for next?

Alicia Keys was another of my favourites growing up - The Diary of Alicia Keys was my first album purchase. I went to ASDA in Mitcham with my dad and bought it. I'd would absolutely love to be on the piano and write something with Alicia. I’d love to work with Gnarls Barkley too, I'm so inspired by his song Crazy. It’s of my favourite songs of all time, it’s timeless. His production style and writing, it’s amazing.

How was writing for Beyoncé?

Beyoncé’s B’ Day was my second album purchase. So it’s like, life coming back at you full-swing, it’s insane. Her team heard music I’d been making in Ghana with a producer called Guilty Beatz who is one of the most talented Afrobeat producers, period. They got hold of some of the songs and asked me to be part of the process for The Lion King. I ended up on the red carpet, with her [Beyoncé] being like, ‘We’re making Bigger track one on the album and we shot a video for it, I can’t wait for you to see it, thank you so much - I think you’re an incredible artist’. Having that from your idol is nuts.

How did that feel?

It’s really affirming because I've been hustling for a long time. I signed my deal when I was 17. I'm 22 now and I still haven't released an album. I'm still working to breakthrough. I've had success, but I still haven't broken through the roof yet. So hearing that from your idol, like, ‘You’re doing the right thing, you are good at what you do’….

Did you feel the pressure writing for her?

Yeah. Luckily I work really well under pressure. For me, when the pressure is on, I just flip into this new gear and become this machine like ‘right, this is my mission’. I wrote maybe 30 songs for that project. There’s so much behind the scenes and people don’t realise how much goes into getting that. I worked hard for that.

How do you write? Do you keep voice notes in your phone if a phrase or a melody comes to you?

Yeah, for sure. If I have ideas I’ll jot something down on my phone or record a voice note. For me, there's no real set way. It's just a gut instinct you develop. When you do something loads, you get better at it. If you’re a terrible runner but you run every day you can do a marathon. When I started writing songs, I really worked hard at my songwriting craft to the point I understand the Swedish perspective. In Sweden, Max Martin and his camp are famous for the mathematics of music, the repetition, the synergy...It’s a combination of different styles of writing and creating, then you apply it. It means I can be writing songs with John Legend on piano, then pop songs for Little Mix, then really heartfelt mellow ballads for Beyoncé. It’s probably the ability I'm most confident of in life.

Do you think there's a misconception that songwriters are just naturally talented and don’t have to work at it?

A thousand percent. I saw this video of Rosalia on a talent show years ago and I listened to her sing, and I was like, ‘Wait, that's not the same Rosalia’. My girl went away and trained and worked at her song-writing, her voice, her art, her perspective. People think you just wake up and you’re talented overnight. No way does it work like that. She became the artist she is today because she put the hard work in. It’s really inspiring.

How do you cope with fame?

Because it’s been a long process it's kind of normal now. It's not intense, it’s never been like I can't sit down at restaurants. More often than not I've gone places and people are too scared to say hi and DM me. It's really cute. I'm a really friendly person, I love people and I love talking - I wish they’d say hi.

And social media?

Social media is probably my least favourite part of being an artist. It's weirdly addictive and mentally dangerous at its worst. I think everyone can relate to this, but if you post something, if it does really well, you feel really good. And if it doesn’t, you feel sad. I make sure I delete my apps on a regular basis. I'll let my sister sometimes have it on her phone, so I don't have to look at it. I’ve definitely been reducing my social media intake and I think it's important for everyone to make sure that you don't dwell on it because otherwise you start to lose your mind. People forget Instagram is a highlights reel.

What’s next?

I have a bucket list. Number one is I want a Brit award. It's been a dream ever since I was a little girl. Last year I was on the sofa, watching the Brits, crying my eyes out, like, ‘One day I will be on that stage, I know it!’. Even if I'm 45 years old when I finally hit my moment, I’m not stopping. I want to go skydiving, to visit every continent, to try different types of foods, to travel. I want to sell out the O2 Arena two nights in a row. I’ve got big dreams!

How would you like to be remembered?

I know when people see me they see a pop artist, a singer, whatever. But when I earn my platform I really want to address important things. I want to be known as that artist who said things that were uncomfortable and people weren't ready to hear, but it made a difference.

She was handpicked to support Dua Lipa on tour and counts both Dua and Billie Eilish as mega-fans. Sophie Goddard speaks to Lolo Zouai about the success of her debut album, unusual rider requests and why she’ll always be grateful to indie artists…

Her debut album, High Highs to Low Lows received over 26 million streams and with writing credits on H.E.R’s Grammy award-winning debut album and comparisons with everyone from Charli XCX to Ariana Grande, the buzz around Lolo Zouai is growing, fast. Born in Paris, Zouai (pronounced “zoo-eye”) moved to San Francisco as a child, now calling New York home (we speak while she’s LA during lockdown, preparing to return home). And while Covid-19 saw this year’s planned tour with Dua Lipa put temporarily on hold until 2021, this is one woman - it turns out - who has more than enough to keep her busy...

How do you think growing up with an Algerian father and French mother has influenced your music?

I think it gave me a wider knowledge of world music from a young age. I didn't notice it was influencing the way that I sing, the way I wrote melodies or the way I did my runs. Traditional Algerian music has these beautiful runs and melodies that are really hard to do. So I think somehow - I don't know if this is possible - but through my blood, I’m able to sing because of where I'm from.

Are your parents musical?

They’re actually not. They love music - my mum played saxophone when she was little - but they're not musical people. My mum really wanted me to get into music and to try new things. So I took piano lessons in San Francisco and played the trumpet because my grandpa played the trumpet. I did it because I wanted my mum to be proud of me.

Who were your influences growing up?

When you're a kid, you just listen to the radio and what your parents are playing. So I really loved Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child and Christina Aguilera. You know, the big divas of the time? That was before I started listening to my own stuff. I was really into the radio and there was a lot of R&B and hip hop where I was in San Francisco.

The way we listen to music has changed so much. It was a lot harder to explore and discover new music back then... 

Yeah, for sure. Sometimes I would hear my mum had a new cassette and it was a random artist. Like there's this group called Vaya con Dios and I listened to them a lot when I was little. It's either super niche or on the radio. In high school I started developing my own music tastes.

When did you start thinking music could be a viable career option?

I have a very vivid memory of running around the courtyard in elementary school in third grade, thinking, ‘I know college is far away, but I really don't see myself going’. I did end up going to music school for one semester and it was so clearly the wrong choice. On the first day, I thought, ‘I just want to make music’. When I moved to New York, I thought, ‘Well, why can't I do it?’. It’s crazy because even though I only started five years ago, now it's even easier for people to just pop up because it's been done a lot by indie artists so people have this blueprint of what you can do to make it with streaming. Whereas back then I had no idea how available it was to to indie artists - I didn't even know you could put out music independently.

I guess you learn so much being in the industry and it takes a while to get to grips with how everything works...

Yeah. I learned about it because when I moved to New York, I started hanging out with these guys called KidSuper, it's like a clothing brand and music. And they taught me you can use TuneCore, which is this website where you upload your music for $10 a year and you own everything. They taught me how to be an independent artist, so I was doing that for two years before I signed. You learn a lot and realise there's so much that goes on behind an artist who just ‘pops up’. Sometimes it gets frustrating because it’s really about connections.

Do you think being an independent artist shaped you?

Yeah, definitely because although I am signed, I still kind of feel like I'm an indie artist. Like, I'll reach out to designers and photographers directly and make my own mood boards. But I have this amazing team all over the world who can help me connect if I want to work with a director or artist. They can help me make my vision a little bit bigger.

Now there's such immediacy between artists and their audiences thanks to social media. How do you feel about that?

It’s really helpful to be able to DM my fans and if they have a question I can answer immediately but there's definitely times when it's important to step back, like during quarantine. It's just not healthy to always be on your phone. I've been learning it's important for me to take a step back and not post or not be on Instagram for a while. Because I am an artist, but I'm a human also. And if my mental health isn't 100% I won't be able to do my art. It's about balance.

How do you keep yourself in a good place mentally?

Exercise - jogging and running really helps my brain. That and just having a really good group of friends to talk to. Giving myself time alone. And expressing myself through my clothing and makeup, that’s really important for me to feel like myself. Like dyeing my hair and doing things that are superficial, but make me feel like myself, which is super important.

It's interesting to think that a lot of artists who came before you haven’t always been able to creatively express themselves to the same extent. It must be liberating to have that control?

Yeah, definitely. I don't feel like anyone is controlling me or telling me what to do at all. It's like I'm choosing what I want my career to be. So if I choose to take a few months off Instagram or a few months off releasing music, I can do that because it's going to better my career in the future. But I'm a workaholic so I probably will never do that!

You’re opening for Dua Lipa for next year. How does that feel?

Oh, it's so exciting. She’s been killing it, her album is amazing. I feel like it's going be this really, really fun tour. I just feel super honoured to be able to perform for such a big audience, it’s going to be crucial. She's a super hard worker and she's really sweet. It was crazy to have it postponed, but it makes so much sense and it's even more time to prepare and there’s more music to be made...

Do you get nervous before you perform?

Yeah, definitely. I have this thing where I just don't really want to talk to anybody because if I talk about it, then I'll realise what's happening. It's better just to just go on stage. I take fifteen minutes of alone time before I perform, just get in the zone.

What’s the weirdest thing on your rider?

Seaweed. Seaweed snacks, you know, like dry seaweed? I love it so much. I think that's probably the weirdest thing. Honestly that's usually all I care about. I don’t drink beer so I don’t care about that but if there's no seaweed, I'm like, ‘That’s all I wanted!’ Just water and seaweed.

Who would you love to work with? 

There’s a lot of people I want to work with. Right now, I would love to work with Grimes. We’ve been talking a bit so hopefully we get to make something crazy as she’s so, so talented. And there’s a Belgian artist called Stromae and he's made some of my favourite albums, he’s super creative. We could do some little French thing. He’s so good at producing, they’re both really good at producing.

When you write music, do you write in English?

Yeah for the most part, I start everything in English and usually the French comes when when I have no idea of what to say in English! Sometimes I'll have a sentence where I’m like ‘what can I put here?’ and then I think ‘I could just put something really simple in French here and that’ll work’. Unless I’m writing a song intentionally in French. I have done one - Beaucoup on my album.

How did High Highs to Low Lows come together?

The title actually came to me way before the songs were made in 2016 - it was originally ‘low lows to high highs’. I put it in an Instagram caption, then realised I liked it and deleted it - you never know who's gonna steal ideas! I liked the fact it secretly had my name in it – Lolo. Then I went into the studio with Stelios [Phili, producer] and had a lot of ideas because I was supposed to go to Algeria and I didn't end up going because of family issues. That inspired Desert Rose and so many songs on the album. When I put out the single I had no other songs finished and it was it was kind of stressful because the song actually ended up doing super well on Spotify and went viral. And all these labels started hitting me up but I didn't even have anything else!

If you could choose a song you wish you'd written, what would it be?

Oui by Jeremih. Because there's the little like French twist in it too and I'm like, ‘OK, that would have been so tight’. I think that's a really ingenious hook.

What do you hope the future holds? Are you someone who sets goals?

I have general goals. It’s not like, ‘by this day I need to have done this’, it’s more things I want to try to do. I want to keep making music but I don't want to limit myself to only music, I want to tap into as much as I can. I’m not like ‘by Wednesday I need to have a Grammy’ [laughs] but I think about my career in the long run and how to maintain and sustain my business. I'm a very career-focused person, but certain things I don't even want to say because I don't want to jinx them...

First up, it’s got to be Black Magic by Little Mix. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this (stuck in the car in traffic), and I always think that’s a good sign in a song. It’s the ultimate girl group song and, trust me, I pay a lot of attention to those!

Katy Perry with Teenage Dream is my next anthem that'll get you singing along at the top of your voice. It was hard to choose between this and Firework, but this has the edge because I’m obsessed with the music video, where she’s driving a 1968 BMW Cabriolet. Goals!

Switching it up with something from the 80s now, Black Box and Ride On Time. I was only a toddler when this came out, but it has most certainly stood the test of time! I’ve even considered having it as my wake up alarm, but worry that might backfire and slowly make me hate it…

I’m as in love with the upbeat original of this next song as I am the acoustic version – This is Real by Jax Jones and Ella Henderson. I love the lyrics and there’s nothing better than Ella Henderson belting them out at 100%.

The king of soul had to feature somewhere on my list; let’s look no further than Sam Cooke with What a Wonderful World. I first heard this song when I was really young, and then found a whole new love for it when it featured in the 2005 film Hitch. Will Smith and Eva Mendes accompanied by a bit of Sam Cooke – what’s not to love?

How could I possibly write about feel-good songs and not include George Ezra and Shotgun? I’m going to make a big statement here, but I think it’s safe to say it was the sound of summer in 2018.

Last year, Lizzo released Good As Hell, and I feel it instantly became the lead song on every feel-good romantic comedy soundtrack – always a good sign in my eyes! I think every girl loves this song, with those sassy lyrics and belting high notes… Actually, everyone except my mum. Don’t worry, I’ve already had words with her about this!

Back to the 1980s again now, with Whitney Houston and I Wanna Dance With Somebody. If you fail to sing along to this song as soon as you hear it, we have a problem here! Get your vocals warmed up, and let’s share the love for this incredible woman.

She’s my favourite pop star right now; Ariana Grande brought me so much joy when she released Into You back in 2015. How can the lyric ‘a little less conversation and a little more touch my body’ not make you smile?

It’s impossible to stand still when this next song comes on – Just Got Paid by Sigala, Ella Eyre, Meghan Trainor and French Montana. We all know that feeling when a long-awaited pay cheque comes through, so this song is certainly one to turn up loud when that finally happens.

Over to something a little heavier, you have to at least tap your foot to this one; it’s Sub Focus and Dimension with Desire. If you’re using lockdown as a chance to work out, this song will give you that extra push to run that extra mile!

I had to end in a way we wouldn’t forget… It’s Take That and Never Forget. Not only do I love that every single person in the room lifts their hands to the sky when this anthem comes on, but it’s impossible for it to not take you back to the 1990s with our favourite boy band!

Coronavirus was announced to be a pandemic last week, with a total of 1,543 cases confirmed in the UK – although the actual number of UK cases is thought to be up to 50,000.

The government has issued precautionary guidelines to follow in order to control the outbreak, with members of the public recommended to work from home where possible and avoid public gatherings to prevent the spread of the virus.

Theatre performances, sporting events and musical concerts have been cancelled, with rumours that this summer's festivals are next.

This morning, Glastonbury was the first to announce its cancellation, releasing a statement.

‘We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled, and this will be an enforced fallow year for the Festival,’ Michael and Emily Eavis announced in a statement.

‘Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week - and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty - this is out only viable option.'

The statement continued: ‘We very much hope the situation in the UK will have improved enormously by the end of June. But even if it has, we are no longer able to spend the next three months with thousands of crew here on the farm, helping us with the enormous job of building the infrastructure and attractions needed to welcome more than 200,000 people to a temporary city in these fields.'

Concluding the statement, they wrote: ‘We were so looking forward to welcoming you all for our 50th anniversary with a line-up full of fantastic artists and performers that we were incredibly proud of have booked. Again, we’re so sorry that this decision has been made. It was not through choice. But we look forward to welcoming you back to these fields next year and until then, we send our love and support to all of you.’

Well, that's depressing but we're looking forward to Glastonbury next year!

This evening saw the BRIT awards, with the 2020 ceremony, hosted this year by Jack Whitehall, celebrating the past year in music.

The viral news started on the red carpet, with Billie Eilish sporting Burberry nails and Lizzo dressing up as an actual Hershey’s chocolate bar.

It was what happened on the stage however that made the most news, from Stormzy crediting the women on his team during his Best Male Artist acceptance speech to Lewis Capaldi cleaning up the awards.

It was tragically announced just days ago that 40-year-old TV presenter Caroline Flack had committed suicide, with her death prompting a movement to ‘be kind’ in her memory.

At tonight’s BRIT awards, host Jack Whitehall paid tribute to Caroline.

‘Over the weekend, we learnt the awful news that a member of the BRITs family, our friend Caroline Flack, tragically passed away.

‘She was a kind and vibrant person with an infectious sense of fun. She will be sorely missed,’ Jack said of Caroline. ‘I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I say our thoughts are with her friends and family.’

Closing the emotional tribute, Jack stepped back to let Lewis Capaldi play his hit song, ‘Someone You Loved’.

This comes in a series of tributes to Caroline, with Harry Styles wearing a black ribbon pinned to the lapel of his BRITs outfit, seemingly in tribute to his ex girlfriend.

‘We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February,’ a statement from her family read over the weekend. ‘We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask that the make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us.’

Our thoughts are with Caroline’s loved ones.

From Lizzo to Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, the 62nd Grammy Awards seats are going to be filled with female forces

Roll up, roll up, the 2020 Grammy Awards nominations are in – and we are pleased to see so many strong females dominating the categories.

We'd like to point out that getting a Grammy nomination isn't easy. Thousands of entries are submitted, and then members of the Recording Academy narrow it down. For the 62nd Grammy Awards, female artists are controlling the 'big four' awards - best new artist, song of the year, record of the year and album of the year.

17-year-old Billie Eilish is the youngest singer in Grammys history to receive nominations in all four of the main categories, and even though she will be 18 by the time the ceremony takes place, she stands to be the youngest-ever winner of album of the year for her dark and edgy debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go. If she does, she steals the crown from Taylor Swift, who was 20 when she won album of the year for her second record, Fearless, in 2010.

Speaking of Taylor, her track Lover has been nominated for song of the year . Taking to Instagram Stories, the star wrote, 'Wrote this one alone in a quiet moment and seeing it honoured in the song of the year category by my peers means so much, wow'. She's also been nominated for pop solo performance with You Need To Calm Down and pop vocal album with Lover.

Next to shout about is the epic Lizzo, who has received eight (eight!) nominations. These include best new artist and record of the year with Truth Hurts.

You might be surprised to learn that Ariana Grande has never been nominated for one of the Grammys' main prizes. So we welcome 2020, as the super talented star has been nominated for five gongs, including Thank U, Next for album of the year and the single 7 Rings for record of the year.

In true effortless Beyoncé style, the star has picked up four nominations without releasing an album. These are for her work on Disney's The Lion King; and her Netflix concert film Homecoming.

We can't wait to see these legendaries ladies onstage.
