Keira Knightley has forged an impressive, and very successful, career on the big screen. 

The 37-year-old actor has starred in The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which has seen her take on the leading role of Elizabeth Swann alongside co-star Johnny Depp, as well as Bend It Like Beckham, Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, and many more. 

However, Keira has opened up about her career struggles, as she was plagued with the feeling she was "never good enough", and was left feeling "exhausted" trying to prove herself. 

Speaking in the April issue of Harper's Bazaar UK, Keira said: "I was incredibly hard on myself. I was never good enough. I was utterly single-minded. I was so ambitious. I was so driven. I was always trying to get better and better and improve, which is an exhausting way to life your life."

Despite being left tired and worn out, Keira is "in awe" of her younger self, which she wants to try and get back to. 

She added: "I am in awe of my 22-year-old self, because I’d like a bit more of her back. And it’s only by not being like that any longer that I realise how extraordinary it was. There was never an ounce of me that wasn’t going to find a way through."

Keira's first foray into the entertainment business was in 1993, aged just eight years old. 

But the award-winning star thinks kickstarting her career at an early age, as well as the fame and recognition in those early years forced her to grow up quicker. 

She shared: "I had quite an entrance into adult life, an extreme landing because of the experience of fame at a very early age. There’s a funny place where women are meant to sit, publicly, and I never felt comfortable with that. It was a big jolt. I was being judged on what I was projecting."

Keira has daughters, Edie and Delilah with husband James Righton, but trying to juggle her career and motherhood has proved challenging. 

She shared: "During filming, the hours are unpredictable and extreme. I worked out I needed three people to do what one full-time parent did. 

"When you hear somebody say, 'I’m just staying home with the kids', that’s not a 'just'. That’s a huge thing.

"The heavy lifting of childcare has to be acknowledged. It’s hard work, it’s vital, it’s undervalued. And it’s so exhausting."

Love Actually is a Christmas classic for many Brits. Whether you've seen it once or a hundred times, absolutely everyone can agree that Emma Thompson's character deserves a big hug and Hugh Grant's dance moves are questionable. Oh, and Keira Knightley's noughties baker boy hat deserves a special mention, too.

But while the film has been enjoyed for 20 years now (yes, it was released in 2003, and no, we can't quite get our heads around it either) it has left viewers with a lot of questions. Andrew Lincoln's infatuated character might be one of the most controversial in the film, but fans have often wondered if he ever found true love - and it turns out that Keira herself admitted that she couldn't quite remember who she actually ends up with.

You know the story - it's Christmas, Juliet (Keira) marries Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and his best friend Mark (Andrew Lincoln) is secretly in love with Juliet. There are some intense moments which play out to a backdrop of Dido, and he eventually turns up at her door to show her a bunch of signs declaring his undying love.

Some fans were rooting for Mark and Juliet, others were convinced that Mark actually deserves a restraining order. But there's one thing we can all agree on - Juliet and Peter are happily married, and together, and that's it. End of. Except, it wasn't quite as clear cut for Keira.

During an interview with Wired in 2018, the actress was asked who her Love Actually character ends up with - but she was a little unsure.

"I don't remember! Who do I end up with in Love Actually?" she asked. "'I'm with my husband, aren’t I? Aren’t I with Chiwetel Ejiofor? I've only seen it once! And it was a really long time ago! Am I [with him]? Yes? So I don't go off with Andrew Lincoln? No? I'm with Chiwetel Ejiofor!"

How did she miss one of the most iconic storylines of the movie? A scene that has sparked endless parodies over the years - and even inspired Boris Johnson's election campaign in 2019. 

And she's only seen it once? How does anyone get through the festive season without catching it on the TV at least three times?

Shocking.

Marie Claire spoke to Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran about Winston Churchill's tailors, Disney Princesses, and working with Keira Knightley

If you don't know Jacqueline Durran by name, you'll definitely recognise her work. This BAFTA and Oscar winning costume designer has not only created period dresses for Pride and Prejudice and MI6 suits for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but was the mastermind behind Keira Knightley's iconic green dress in Atonement.

This year, Jacqueline was nominated twice(!) for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work bringing our childhood to life in Beauty and the Beast, and for giving that extra touch of realism to Gary Oldman's portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (which led to his BAFTA and Oscar for Best Actor.)

We sat down to chat to Jacqueline Durran about her incredible body of work, designing around a fat suit and the mystery of Winston's missing measurements...

For Darkest Hour, how true did you want to stay to the records of Churchill? 'The first thing I did was compile boards of Churchill, and what becomes quite clear quite quickly is that Churchill pretty much wears similar things almost the whole way through his life. He often wore a black jacket, black waistcoat and striped trousers, with the same watch, and the same bowtie, and he also had his ‘siren suit’ look and his striped suit. So I broke it down into the looks and I talked with Gary [Oldman] and with Joe [Wright, Darkest Hour’s director] about what they wanted their Churchill to be. We decided we’d do the black jacket look, the striped suit, the dressing gown and that was pretty much it!'

Where did you get the costumes from? 'I went back as much as possible to the original sources, so I looked at which tailors he used and Henry Poole in Savile Row were very happy to make suits for me. Lock & Co - who made Churchill’s hats - made his hats for the movie, and Turnbull & Asser - who used to make his shirts - made his shirts for the movie! We tried to do everything we could to be as authentic as possible – Churchill’s family even sent us photos of his ring so that we could replicate it. What I really wanted to find out were Churchill’s measurements, but none of the tailors had them…'

What was it like designing around prosthetics and a fat suit? 'The prosthetics and the fat suit were developed in Los Angeles. I went to Gary’s first fitting with Joe in Los Angeles and I hired a costume which we put over the first iteration of the fat suit. We couldn’t start building the costumes until the shape of the fat suit was finalised: you can’t really judge a fat suit until you’ve dressed it.

It also depends on how the prosthetics and the costume interact. It might look right if you’re just looking at the prosthetic, but when you put a shirt on and the fold of the fat rolls back over the top of the collar, you think, "Yeah that is exactly what it would look like!"'

In Pride and Prejudice, the costumes were a real departure from those traditionally in costume dramas – they actually got dirty! Was this intentional? 'No one ever asks me about Pride and Prejudice! That’s exactly what I was trying to do. It was Joe’s first [feature] film and my first pre-20th century film, and what Joe said to me straight away is that they are really young girls, who would make stuff at home and make looks out of what they have. They’re very provincial and their clothes shouldn’t look like they’re the height of London fashion – the girls had to be comfortable in them. There’s a scene where they are walking across the fields and the dew soaks into their clothes leaving this huge wet stripe on their skirts and that’s exactly what would have happened!'

There is a huge gulf between the very simple 1950s costumes in Vera Drake, for which you won a BAFTA, and the finery of those in Anna Karenina. Is there a style with which you feel more comfortable? 'As with any creative endeavour, there are things that you enjoy more, and the more full-fledged the actors’ and directors ' concept is, the more enjoyable it is to me. It’s really fulfilling to work through things and see how they evolve into something much more specific and particular to the actor in that movie.'

Did you except such a huge reaction to the iconic green dress from Atonement? 'No! I was focussing on it a lot though as I knew it was going to be heavily featured and Joe told me at the beginning, "You’re really going to have to make that dress really good!" which is a terrible pressure!

He said he wanted it to be green, so we chose the best shade of green out of fabric samples from all over London, along with the production designer and Keira [Knightley]. I chose elements from 1920s and 1930s dresses that I liked: the dress is not an authentic 30s dress. The details like the backlessness and the fullness of the skirt exist in a dress in the 30s, but not all together.

We wanted the fabric to be as light as possible because it was supposed to be the hottest day of summer: there’s an element of nakedness about the dress, even though the character is fully dress.'

How has working with Keira Knightley on three films been? 'Keira is amazing. She’s a great collaborator, willing to try things and can really make anything work. It’s not just my work that makes the green dress what it is, it’s a combination of things that came together in a fantastic way. She looked so beautiful, at that time, in that dress, in that place, with that colour.'

What was it like designing for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which was the first film you’ve worked on without a female lead? 'It was really difficult because you realise that you punctuate the visual story with women’s costumes because they’re so eye-catching… there’s not such a variety of looks in MI6. It came back down to the detail in everything, a little bit like Darkest Hour in that, with suits, it’s all about the detail: the cut of the lapel or the fabric used. I thought at the beginning I was really going to hate it, but working at making the distinctions between all of the men’s costumes made it really satisfying.'

Designing Belle’s dress in Beauty and the Beast, did you feel a lot of pressure to deliver on what had been a huge part of people’s childhoods? 'Yes, there was a lot of pressure! Emma [Watson] wanted to maintain her interpretation of Belle as an active, feminist hero, whilst wearing a Disney Princess dress. So one of the fundamentals was that the dress shouldn’t be corseted and it had to be lightweight so she could run. I did lots of iterations, a more 18th century dress, a much more modern version, but in the end everyone wanted it to be as close to the animation as possible.'

The new Girl on the Train film is out soon

With just a few weeks until The Girl on the Train finally hits cinemas, we’re getting pretty excited. Especially after seeing the film’s stars out in force last night for its London premiere.

In homage to the film, Leicester Square was transformed into a train line, with Emily Blunt, Luke Evans and Haley Bennett all making an appearance on the temporary tracks.

Emily Blunt’s beaded floral dress by Alexander McQueen made a colourful change for the actress after playing the lead character of Rachel Watson, an overweight alcoholic divorcee who becomes obsessed with a couple she sees every morning on her commute. Paula Hawkins recently explained that they had to make the actress ‘look at bit sh*t’ to play the role in the screen adaptation of her best-selling book to ensure ‘too beautiful’ Emily was in keeping with the character.

Meanwhile, Haley Bennett sparkled in a beaded Valentino dress for the premiere as she took to the makeshift train platform. In the film, Haley plays the role of Megan, the perfect wife who Rachel daydreams about from the train who suddenly disappears. Not that she was in any danger of disappearing into the crowds at the premiere – doesn’t she look amazing?

If we weren't already excited about the hotly anticipated The Girl on the Train, which lands in cinemas later this year, we are now. Emily Blunt has been speaking about why she was so drawn to the film, and it sounds great.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Emily said: 'I was completely sucked into it and thrilled by the idea that your protagonist was a blackout drunk. That’s very unusual. Especially in cinema, to have a woman who’s just so messed up at the forefront of the film.'

It sounds like a really meaty role and we can't wait to see Emily's performance. We're counting down the days until the 5th of October...

It's only been nearly two years since Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl had fans of the novel at the edge-of-their-seats with David Fincher's adaptation. But today, thriller fans can rejoice once again as its spiritual successor, Paula Hawkin's hugely popular novel, The Girl on the Train, is nearing release - a brand new trailer has just dropped.

Starring Emily Blunt as Rachel Watson, the unemployed lonely alcoholic who serves as the protagonist of the novel, Emily was seen dashing around New York City over the past few weeks as she filmed scenes for the eagerly awaited adaptation. The DreamWorks film will be directed by Tate Taylor (The Help) with screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Secretary).

In February, a few weeks after Emily announced her second pregnancy with husband John Krasinski, the actress was seen looking gorgeous while filming. Their second daugher, Violet, was born at the end of June.

Though we've seen Emily as Rachel, we've yet to see her co-stars get in front of the camera. Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) and Jennifer Aniston's husband, Justin Theroux, have been confirmed to play Anna and Tom, while the role of Megan will be played by Haley Bennett.

And Megan's husband, Scott? Well, Jared Leto was rumoured to be in the running for the role, but now Welsh actor Luke Evans will be rounding out the cast.

Girl On The Train tells the story from the point of view of Rachel who commutes on the train to London everyday and imagines (more like obsesses over) the lives of a couple she watches through the train windows (who she nicknames Jason and Jess). Rachel soon becomes embroiled in her escapist imaginings, returning home one night covered in blood with the news that ‘Jess’ has gone missing. The story is told from the perspective of three women: Rachel, Megan (‘Jess’) and Anna – the new wife of Rachel’s ex-husband, Tom. Each woman is a complex character with their own take on the same events and it’s our job to complete the jigsaw.

We were absolutely gripped and can only imagine the film will be just as captivating. It seems the film adaptation will be relocating the novel to the United States (bummer), and we expect Emily will be trading her native British accent for an American twang.

Though the cast is all set and the film is being planned for an October 2016 release, we can't help but look back at our own dream cast wishes from earlier this year.

See who we thought would've been perfect for the roles of the three leading ladies. Don’t worry, no spoilers.

RACHEL: She’s the central character and a hopeless sad sack. Her narration is utterly unreliable and peppered with gaps. Once married to Tom, she is now divorced and miserable. But perhaps she’s been underestimated…

Emily Blunt At the top of the running. Blunt would have to rough herself up a little to get into character for this role but we think she would surprise us all with her versatile acting skills.

Renee Zellweger Based on her Bridget Jones years, we reckon Zellweger could bring a real likeability to Rachel’s character.

Kate Winslet Thinking about it, there isn’t really a role that Winslet would be rubbish in. She’d be great as Rachel- able to bring the raw emotion and desperation that the part requires.

MEGAN: A 29-year-old short, slim, arty blonde. She’s a complicated character – a hot, vulnerable mess with some dark secrets. The book centres around her sudden and mysterious disappearance.

Carey Mulligan A definite contender. We think Mulligan could bring the air of mystery that Megan requires, based on her roles in Drive and Shame. Also, she’s got the cute looks that Hawkins describes Megan having in the book.

Anna Kendrick Megan is viewed as a bit of a cool cat and Kendrick is just that. She has the chutzpah to pull of some of the things that Megan gets up to. We say no more.

Sienna Miller She’s beautiful and a brilliant, versatile actor who could definitely master Megan’s tortured vibe. (Think of her as Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl).

ANNA: The other woman. A yummy mummy and a bit of a snob, she’s got that picket-fence perfection that we love to hate. But she’s not without her share of sass…

Kate Mara We’ve seen her kick-ass as spunky journalist, Zoe Barnes, in Netflix original, House of Cards and she’s in the remake of the Fantastic Four. Mara has also been in talks for a role in the film but it’s not clear which one. We think she’d be brilliant for the part - capturing the snooty, rigid elements of Anna and ideal once the claws come out.

Rosamund Pike After her flawless depiction of the brilliantly manipulative Amy Dunne in Gone Girl, Pike has to be in the running. Her cool nonchalance would be perfect for Anna.

When Liberty Ross hit the red carpet at the Oscars after-parties yesterday, she wasn’t wearing just any old bespoke dress. She was wearing her wedding dress, a John Galliano custom gown of goddess proportions, turned edgy with a black clutch and pearl earcuffs. Cool, right?

Yes cool on the red carpet, you might say, where the anything-goes style barometer can see celebrities dressing up as everything from Disney Princesses to pizzas –and it’s all totally acceptable.

But what about in real life? Can wedding dresses really ever be re-worn?

Granted that Liberty did, on this occasion, have something she wanted to shout about. She married music mogul Jimmy Irvine in a private ceremony on Valentines day, her fresh start and happy beginnings after ex-husband, director Rupert Sanders, had an affair with Kristen Stewart, and this was her chance to tell the world. But even if you weren’t planning a post-wedding, big reveal to your adoring and awaiting public, why shouldn’t you celebrate that frock in all its ivory glory?

You’ve spent months searching for the one, after all, and it’s probably the most expensive piece of clothing you’ll ever buy in your life. The whole cost-per-wear argument would otherwise go out the window, but if you re-style and recycle your investment, you might find yourself looking at a versatile, quality addition to your wardrobe, not to mention a boost to your eco-credentials.

Of course, Liberty’s not the first A-lister to recycle her bridal look. Keira Knightley famously revealed that she wears her Chanel couture confection all the time and, in fact, it wasn’t even a new dress to start with.

'Karl [Lagerfeld] very kindly designed me a jacket to go with it,' Keira told the Telegraph back in 2014. 'I'd worn the dress lots. It was my something old. And I liked not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.’

‘It's now got red wine spilled down the front because the last time I wore it my friend went like this [she juts out her elbows], and now it's everywhere.’

Classic.

So perhaps the trick to pulling this off IRL is all in the cut of the gown that you buy, then. Keira could team that tulle mini with a biker jacket or a blazer, doing a bit of a Carrie Bradshaw when running around town. Liberty, meanwhile, might struggle to take her gown out of the occasion wear zone, as its floor length proportions and satin fabrication are oh so formal – but she could potentially alter it into a slinky slip dress, if sartorial surgery wasn’t too heartbreaking.

2015 has been a beautiful, beautiful year for our favourite celebrities, with more new hair and makeup trends to try than ever before.

From The Hun to strobing, the year's crazes arrived thick and fast and the best celebrity beauty moments came from those with the courage to experiment.

From Kendall Jenner to Lupita Nyong'o, the stars dared to be different, working new makeup colours and hair lengths aplenty. Even the Duchess of Cambridge upgraded her trusty blowdry with new bangs.

Celebrity hair stylist George Northwood helped both Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung to chop and change their hair, while Kylie Jenner worked so many different dye jobs that we've dedicated an entire 'Kylie Jenner Hair' gallery to her 2015 evolution.

So these are the star beauty looks we loved, pressed 'Like' for, and totally wanted to be our own in 2015.

First up, we hark back to the MET Ball in May (feels like ages ago in Insta years doesn't it?) where Beyoncé arrived on the red carpet wearing this hyper-high ponytail, and little else. The Hollywood fable goes that Queen Bey left the house with her hair in ringlets, then freaked out en route to the gala and asked her hairstylist Neal Farinah to whip up something new on the way. The result, we think, is the kind of statement pony that only Sasha Fierce herself could pull off.

Duchess Kate caused an even bigger media stir than usual in September, when she returned to her royal duties after giving birth to Princess Charlotte and debuted a perfectly fluffy new fringe.

Keira Knightley has given birth to her first child.

It's being reported that the 30-year-old actress and her Klaxons rocker husband James Righton have welcomed their baby in London, but no other details are being given yet.

The Imitation Game star was relaxed about becoming a mother in the run-up. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres about her birthing plan, she joked: 'There isn't an option to sort of keep it in, is there? So, I'm assuming my plan is to get it out. But apparently there's more to the plan than that. I don't know what that is. Still, my plan is to get it out. It will come out.'

Also, proving that she is very much a woman after our own hearts, she joked it was the prospect of being able to enjoy a margarita again that was keeping her going.

'When can I drink? Please?' she quipped to the talk-show host. 'I just want a margarita!'

She went on to say that her husband seemed to have no problems helping her out on the drinking front during the awards party season. 'There's a lot of free champagne [at events], so he thinks because I'm not drinking, he has two. I'm eating for two and he's drinking for two.'

Ever since Keira Knightley announced her pregnancy last month, we've been eagerly anticipating her red carpet arrivals throughout the awards season. Her regular style choices are so perfect, how could she get it anything but right?

The actress hasn't disappointed, with a series of feminine gowns that complement her bump and still manage to wow the harshest fashion critics. And now Keira has revealed her (very simple) rules for getting red carpet ready with a growing baby bump.

Talking to E! host, Maria Menounos, the starlet said, 'I mean it just means you're not going to wear anything tight - for me. Actually, people do wear tight things when they're pregnant. I don't want to go for that. There we go. So it's just all quite loose. I'm quite comfortable. The shoes are rather high, they might have to come off later. I can kind of go 'Well, I'm pregnant', and no one's allowed to say anything...'.

It was a double whammy weekend in Hollywood as the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild Awards both took place over the last two days. Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore scooped yet more major accolades, while on the red carpet there were tons of prize-worthy looks worth knowing about. Spring colours are finally coming through, moving on from the white-out that dominated the Golden Globes, as Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones led the trend charge. Here's our pick of the looks you need to know about from the weekend...

Keira Knightley Nailing not one, but two stunning ensembles, Keira’s first outing was at the Producers Guild Awards in kaleidoscopic Chanel (below). For Sunday’s SAG awards (above) she raised the bar again, donning a plum lace Erdem gown like no maternity wear we've ever seen before. Offsetting the pretty dress with smokey eyes and an edgy diamond ear cuff, Keira proved that she really is going to be the best-dressed mum ever.

Jennifer Lawrence  Stop the press - Jennifer is wearing Prada. Yes, the Dior devotee has quit her habit, introducing new labels into her wardrobe for, we think, the first time ever. Attending the PGAs, Jennifer chose a dress with a similar construction to Rosamund Pike’s Vera Wang number at the Golden Globes, but the chain mail panelling gives it some much-needed structure. Lupita Nyong’o Perfect pinstripes over watercolour flowers? Lupita’s done it again in this Elie Saab gown, expertly drawing the eye around her curves to emphasise her stunning figure. She keeps the beauty simple with a braided bun and berry lips.

Jennifer Aniston Jen looks positively statuesque in vintage John Galliano - an actual golden girl. Hiring new stylist Micaela Erlanger (the woman also responsible for Lupita's marathon of epic looks) could well be the best sartorial decision Ms Aniston has ever made.

Rosamund Pike Rosamund’s mullet hem trapeze dress is a clever and supportive shape for her post-baby body. The textured Dior Couture gown is packed full of red carpet drama.

Felicity Jones  Felicity has totally lightened up and we love it. She’s ditched the heavy Valentino frocks that have been weighing down her style game for the last few ceremonies, in favour of something softer. The crossover panels on her sleek column gown by Balenciaga add just enough interest to stop the look from being too minimal. 

Julia Roberts Red carpet veteran Julia doesn’t need to impress with frills and flounces. Instead she gets straight to the pure point of glam in this sharp Givenchy jumpsuit.

Maggie Gyllenhaal We think character Nessa Stein would be proud of Maggie’s choice – a sleek and minimal Thakoon column gown.

Emma Stone  We can always rely on Emma to shake up red carpet traditions. At the Golden Globes she eschewed a classic gown for a sharp jumpsuit, and now she’s done it again, wearing a mannish tuxedo jacket over her sheer Christian Dior Couture gown.

Amongst the sequins, feathers and glitz at last night's Golden Globes, it was a distinctively floral affair for two expectant mums.

Keira Knightley, who was joined by her husband James Righton, and Sophie Hunter (Benedict Cumberbatch’s theatre director fiancée) showed their pregnancy glow was in full bloom at last night's Golden Globes in two elegant gowns. And instantly shut up anyone who bemoans the difficulty of maternity fashion!

The stylish mums-to-be both opted for floor length nature-inspired dresses for the event. 29-year old Keira (due to give birth this spring/summer) shone in a tiered white, butterfly and bug-printed custom Chanel number. She told E!’s Ryan Seacrest, 'apparently it took 30 people to make this in a week so I have to give a huge thank you to all 30 people.' She teamed her look with a stunning butterfly corsage on her wrist, smokey brown eyes and a classic up-do.

Whereas 36-year old Sophie Hunter (a few months gone) stole the limelight from her Golden Globe nominated fiancé in an elegant red, navy and silver floral maxi-dress from Erdem’s Pre-Fall 2015 collection.

Both first-time mothers to be were positively glowing last night – but it was Sophie Hunter who had the edge in the pregnancy style stakes. And like fashion-darling Keira Knightley – we’re sure will have designers lining up to dress her for future red carpet events.

The nominations for this year’s BAFTA are in - Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel leads the pack with 11 nods, while Birdman and The Theory of Everything each receive 10 nominations.

Marie Claire favourites Emma Stone and Keira Knightley will go head-to-head for the Best Supporting Actress award, alongside industry heavyweights Imelda Staunton, Patricia Arquette and Rene Russo.

There’s tight competition for Lead Actress too, with Amy Adams, Felicity Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore and Rosamund Pike all in the running.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne will compete once again for the Lead Actor title, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Keaton and Ralph Fiennes also unsurprisingly nominated.

The names up for this year’s EE Rising Star were announced earlier this week with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jack O’Connell, Margot Robbie, Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley tipped as the ones to watch.

The 2015 awards seasons kicked off today with the announcement of the Golden Globes 2015 award nominees.

And we’re pleased to report that the Brits have swept the board, with Keira Knightley, Rosamund Pike and Felicity Jones among the many home-grown talent up for awards.

Not only that, Jennifer Aniston is in the running for best actress- an accolade she’s never before achieved. While surprisingly, Angelina Jolie’s much-hyped directorial debut for Unbroken was snubbed.

While we’ll have to wait until 11th January 2015 to find out the winners, the full list of nominations are below:

Keira Knightley poses topless for Interview Magazine to protest against photoshop

Keira Knightley has stepped into the ring in empowered fighting mode this week and she’s ready to knock out Photoshop in the name of feminism.

‘I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame” she told The Times, explaining her decision to pose topless for Interview Magazine under one condition: the photos remain unedited so we can all see how she really looks.

Bare-chested and sexily dishevelled in a pair of black laced-gloves, she protested her decision to ban any manipulation: ‘Our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape.’

It’s not the first time Knightley has hit out at the media’s penchant for Photoshop. Back in 2004, the actress revealed her shock when her breasts on the poster for King Arthur were edited to literally look larger than life, confessing ‘those things certainly weren’t mine.’

Referring to these past experiences at the mercy of Hollywood and magazine editors she explained, ‘I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters.’

She concluded: ‘That [Interview Magazine shoot] was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are.’

In a year when feminism is on everyone’s lips, 29-year-old Keira has made it her mission to speak out as a proud feminist declaring ‘I’m so glad feminism is back on the table.’

Keira Knightley wore not one, but two, Valentino dream dresses at the BFI London Film Festival

Keira Knightley has kicked off the BFI London Film Festival in style, wearing not one, but two, Valentino dream dresses to the press conference and premiere of her new film, the Imitation Game.

The film, in which she stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, tells the story of English mathematician Alan Turing and his Bletchley Park team as they work to crack the Enigma code in World War II.

Keira plays code-breaker Joan Clarke, one of the team’s heroic female leaders and revealed that she thought about women's rights, both past and present, when making the movie.

'The actual Joan Clarke was fighting for a place at the table and equal pay, and I think those are still the two main things feminists are fighting for,’ Keira said at the press conference which took place earlier in the day. ‘And there is still inequality in that. I definitely got that from the script and researching that.'

Wearing a red Valentino tea dress and Charlotte Olympia heels, Keira admitted that while she loved taking on Joan’s genius character, she couldn’t exactly get to grips with the maths behind the codes herself.

'I was really bad, really bad at all of it and I didn't understand any of the maths,' she told the conference. 'We had a specialist brought in and I got that feeling that I haven't had since school.'

'You sort of feel like you've died and I couldn't concentrate at all. But he was such a nice man and it's really interesting and I should have been paying attention but I didn't!'

But the actress admits she's no Angelina Jolie...

Keira Knightley has revealed that she witnessed trauma “unbearable to comprehend” on a trip to South Sudan with Oxfam.

On the third anniversary of the country’s independence, the Begin Again actress is helping to rally support for Oxfam’s appeal, providing aid for the 1.5 million people who have been forced to flee their homes or risk living in a conflict zone. Those who survived in the warzone are now at risk of starvation and diseases associated with poor hygiene in what the UN is calling a humanitarian crisis.

'I had no idea what to expect when I arrived in South Sudan, but what I saw and heard was worse than I could have ever imagined,' she said in a statement. 'All of those I met were suffering a terrible trauma unbearable to comprehend. I spoke to women who have lost their husbands and children within months of one another. They are now alone trying desperately to get through each day struggling to provide enough food and water to keep them and their remaining children alive. '

'The people of South Sudan need an end to the fighting, but with peace talks stalled there is little hope of a swift end to the conflict,' said Mark Goldring, Oxfam Chief Executive. 'In the meantime, Oxfam are working tirelessly to reach thousands of people with food and water but there are thousands more need our help.'

Despite doing her bit to bring awareness to good causes, Keira lightly admits that she’s no Angelina Jolie. 'I admire Angeline Jolie hugely,' she told the Telegraph. 'I don’t think I could ever be anything like as impressive or authoritative as she is on the world stage.'

'She’s pretty much devoting her life to her causes and that’s a great message. I’m always happy to help in any small way I can.'

'When those refugees asked me, "who are you" I really wished I could have said, "I’m a doctor," or something else useful. So instead I told them, "I am someone who is going to ask people to give lots of money to Oxfam, so that they can help you."'

Is it just us, or has Keira Knightley been looking rather stylish lately? The star has rolled out a series of stunning looks and we can’t get enough of her impeccable style.

She’s winning major fashion points by switching up the designers she dons, too. From Chanel, to Prada, to newbie Simone Rocha, Knightley has been wearing a melange of designer frocks, and as you’d probably guessed, she’s looked amazing in all of them.

She’s been hopping about from town to town, promoting her new film, Begin Again in dresses-a-plenty.

First there was the white crocheted lace dress by Ralph Lauren. No dress could have been more appropriate for beating the sweltering NYC summer heat.

Later that evening, she threw on a navy chiffon dress with gorgeously embroidered birds by Valentino. She debuted the look at the New York premiere of Begin Again, which suited her slender frame.

Keira clearly loves a wardrobe change because she swapped smocks again and went for a metallic Erdem dress for the after party.

A new day, a new outfit. The very next morning, she stepped out of her swanky hotel, looking sprightly in a light blue Prada dress and a retro-chic up-do.

She hopped back across the pond just in time for the infamous Serpentine Summer Party in London, to which she wore a colourful Chanel gown. Keira stole the show in the floral one-shouldered dress.

Keira Knightley and James Righton are understated and totally unshowbizzy. We like them.

She recently said that she gives herself an allowance of £30,00 a year (we're not sure quite how strict she is with that) and we're still in love with the low-key wedding she and James Righton had in the South of France (there were just 11 guests). Although, they did go on to have a second secret second ceremony, which was a bit more fancy. We'll forget that for now.

At the moment, Keira's in New York promoting her new movie, Begin Again, and husband James Righton is keeping her company as she schleps around the city for film premieres, screenings and chatshow appearances. Ugh, the life of an A-lister.

We particularly enjoy the startled look the rocker gave as an over-zealous fan approached Keira brandishing a package outside their hotel (not a euphemism).

The actress was seen wearing two lovely Valentino dresses for the Begin Again premiere and a visit to Daily Show with Jon Stewart, before slipping into a beautiful Erdem AW14 dress for the film's after party.

Begin Again is billed as a musical romantic comedy and features Keira Knightley's vocals throughout. Listen to her belt it out below... we're impressed.

The actress explains why she wanted to get married in a dress she already owned - and why she'll probably never wear it again

Keira Knightley is in need of a very good dry cleaner.

When the actress married rocker James Righton last year, she caused quite a stir with the Chanel wedding dress she chose. But it wasn't the fact that the dress was stunningly beautiful that got people talking. (Though it certainly was).

No, it was more the fact that it was a dress she already owned - and had already been (gasp!) photographed in.

'Karl [Lagerfeld] very kindly designed me a jacket to go with it,' Keira told the Telegraph. 'I'd worn the dress lots. It was my something old. And I liked not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.'

After the wedding, Keira famously rewore the lovely tulle dress again during a December outing with her handsome husband.

But, sadly, it seems the dress is now being shuffled into early retirement.

'It's now got red wine spilled down the front because the last time I wore it my friend went like this [she juts out her elbows], and now it's everywhere. I didn't quite realise the extent of it until I got home. It's quite impressively splattered,' she said. 

'But, hey, a good night is a good night and when a dress has had its time, maybe it's had its time. I'm pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can't, I'm happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed.'

We can imagine we'd be a little more disappointed (read: hysterically crying) if our own wedding dress was ruined. But it's nice to see Keira has such a good attitude about the whole thing.

Then again, Keira has no plans to pass down her dress to future generations.

When asked if she would have wanted to give it to her daughter someday, the actress brushed off the tradition.

'I'm not sure I'm into that. Can you imagine, say, your daughter is a different shape or she doesn't like it, and all of a sudden you're giving her pressure of wearing your dress?'

At least if Keira and James do have a daughter, she'll have plenty of her mum's glamorous red carpet gowns to dress up in.

The 28-year-old British actress dazzles in the latest James Bond-inspired Chanel advert, proving she could easily hold her own amongst the likes of Ursula Andress, Halle Berry and Gemma Arterton.

'The third film is very silver and quite cool,' Keira said in a press release. 'But again, nobody can quite capture her; so she is kind of there, but she is sort of playing with them... And then she gets on a speedboat! What more can you ask for?'

Set to the 1960s hit "She's Not There" by The Zombies, the ultra-glam Coco Mademoiselle fragrance advert opens with Keira's character captivating a suited stranger as he enters a party.

She looks absolutely stunning in an airy, white Chanel gown, with her dark smokey eyes mysteriously drawing in her sexy suitor, played by Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky.

Keira Knightley was getting some early birthday cuddles from her man today during the Chanel show.

The actress (who turns 29 later this month) looked completely smitten with husband James Righton, as they shared a moment of PDA in the FROW Tuesday morning.

The loved-up newlyweds, who rarely make public appearances together, held hands and whispered in each other's ears and they waited for the action to start.

But it wasn't just the adorable couple's hands-on appearance that got people talking. It seems the monochrome Chanel dress that Keirda chose for the Paris Fashion Week event has caused quite a stir.

With its boxy top and flared skirt, the dress puts added emphasis on the actress' already small waist. (No, your eyes aren't fooling you. That's actually Keira's waist - no tricky white side panels.)

The look is certainly glam - and Keira looks stunning. But we certainly did a double-take when we first saw it.

Rihanna, who was also on hand for the star-studded show, wore a similar design in lilac. Though, perhaps because it's missing the two-tone effect, the result is slightly less dramatic.

We love that RiRi paired her version with a too-cute pair of matching trainers. This preppy ensemble is certainly a departure from her headline-making look from the Balmain after-party last week.

Keira Knightley and James Righton are officially our new favourite couple. The notoriously private husband and wife, who married in Provence earlier this year, made a rare red carpet appearance at a charity gala in London last night and the pictures are almost too adorable for words. But we'll try...

Keira gave us a lesson in how to customise a wedding dress, wearing her Chanel Haute Couture gown for the THIRD time. A spokesperson for Chanel confirmed the dress was in fact the dress she wore on her wedding day, and told Marie Claire exclusively that she chose to customise the gown with a sheer embellished long-sleeved top, which she wore underneath the dress. Amazing.

Giving us a hint at the cheeky, happy wedding album we never got to see, Keira and James cosies up on the red carpet at the SeriousFun Gala in London, smiling away for the cameras, cuddling and looking into each other's eyes.

And there wasn't a pout in sight.

The gala was hosted by Paul Newman and saw James Blunt, Kate Nash and Boris Becker in attendance, raising over £500,00 for the SeriousFun Children's Network charity. The charity was founded by Paul Newman in 1988, and has set up 30 camps and programmes serving children with serious illnesses and their families, which are always free of charge.

Keira married The Klaxons lead singer James in a low-key ceremony in southern France in May, surrounded by 50 of their closest friends. The actress was praised for 'recycling' her dress, and teaming it with a Chanel boucle jacket, Chanel pumps and RayBan wayfarers.

Karl Lagerfeld said: ''She had the least pretentious wedding ever. The whole thing was relaxed. I think it's perfect. After all, they lived together for quite a time. It's not as if she is a young girl of 18 who sees the husband for the first time. She is not a country girl. Yes. I liked the light-heartedness of this wedding.'

Karl Lagerfeld has given his take on Keira Knightley's gorgeous low-key French wedding, describing it as 'perfect'.

In an interview with The Telegraph published today, the designer talks openly about Keira's big day, and her decision to wear a Chanel prom dress with matching pumps by the brand for the intimate ceremony.

Talking about her dress, he told the paper: 'But it is very simple.'

He adds: 'She had the least pretentious wedding ever. The whole thing was relaxed. I think it's perfect. After all, they lived together for quite a time. It's not as if she is a young girl of 18 who sees the husband for the first time. She is not a country girl.

'Yes. I liked the light-heartedness of this wedding.'

The designer, who's spent the last 30 years as the head of Chanel, admits to being a big fan of the actress and brand ambassador, especially when it comes to her portrayal of Coco Chanel in the new biopic, Once Upon A Time.

He says: 'Keira was genius, no? I work well with her. Very easy. Keira has zero problem in her way of behaving and she knows everybody.'

Karl saved all his praise for Keira, and spent some time criticising Audrey Tautou's portrayal of Coco in the 2009 adaptation, Coco Before Chanel. Ouch. Karl is thought to be one of the few high-profile secret guests at Keira's wedding last month, alongside Sienna Miller.

Keira Knightley could be set to co-star with Benedict Cumberbatch, according to new reports…

Keira Knightley married hubby James Righton in an intimate French ceremony less than a month ago, but already it seems she's preparing to make way for another leading man.

According to rumours, the actress is in talks to team up with Benedict Cumberbatch, in new movie The Imitation Game, about work on the Enigma code in World War Two.

The film version of the Alan Turing biopic was originally rumoured to star Leonardo DiCaprio in the leading male role, although whispers have now turned to British actor Cumberbatch.

Keira Knightley is said to be 'in talks' over the flick, which could start production as early 2014.

It's thought the film, one of the most hotly-tipped scripts to be released in 2011, will be directed by Headhunters' Morten Tyldum and document Turing's role in cracking the Enigma code.

While details are still very vague, film industry publications The Hollywood Reporter and Variety report that Keira could be set to join the cast as ' a woman from a very conservative background who not only forms a complicated relationship with Turing but is there for him until the end'.

Wow.

Keira Knightley may rake in yet more cash from her new movie role, but don't think she'll go spending it all at once.

Earlier this month, Ms. Knightley's total earnings were revealed - and not they're quite what you'd think.

The frugal starlet earned around £1.5 million in 2012, but paid herself just £30,000 during the year.

A source told The Sun: 'Keira took home £20,000 in dividends from the company in 2012 and a salary of £11,000.

'Her biggest expenditure put through the books was £41,000 on security, but she spent little else.

'Her travel costs were just over £4,000 and she didn’t pay for a personal trainer, despite spending almost £1,000 on one the year before. The accounts also show that she did not shell out a penny on clothes and make-up.'

So she obviously likes to keep a close eye on her bank balance, which explains her low-key wedding to Klaxons keyboard player James Righton earlier this month.

The couple's wedding had just 11 guests, and Keira recycled an old gown for the event.

Musician James Righton has spoken out for the first time about his wedding to the British actress

Keira Knightley's new husband James Righton has spoken out for the first time about his wedding to the British actress calling the day 'beautiful'.

The musician, who is the frontman and keyboard player for UK band The Klaxons, said in an interview with the NME that there 'was a lot of love' at the couple's nuptials in the south of France earlier this month.

He revealed: 'I just fell in love with someone who happens to be amazing. We had a beautiful wedding and there was a lot of love.'

How sweet! James went on to say that he doesn't believe that his relationship with the Anna Karenina star will have an impact on the public's perception of the band, who are set to release their third studio album later this year.

He added: 'The music is the music. That thing [media interest] is going to be there because of who she is but I'd say we're a pretty established band.'

James' bandmate Jamie Reynolds, meanwhile, also spoke about the wedding, saying: 'It was the greatest day ever, it was fantastic. We're still high from it. It was about two weeks ago, it was a big party.'

The couple, who dated for a year before getting engaged in 2012, married in front of a clutch of family members and close friends at a town hall in the south of France on 4th May, before heading to Keira's holiday estate for a big party.

The Klaxons keyboard player had his and Keira’s initials carved into the trunk, a subtle but sweet touch! The Sun report the actress burst into giggles when she was presented the gift in front of her close friends and family.

Of course that wasn’t all the star received, her thoughtful husband also handed her his Grandmother’s wedding band a source told the newspaper: ‘The ring he gave her was a family heirloom too. He really did think it all through. It was an amazing wedding, the whole thing was really sweet and down to earth.’

Released to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the first Chanel boutique in the French seaside town of Deauville in 1913, the film also stars actress Clotilde Hesme as Chanel's aunt Adrienne, who helps her set up her first shop, and male model Jake Davis as her lover Boy Capel, as well as models Stella Tennant, Saskia de Brauw and Lindsey Wixson as high society figures Lady de Grey, Vita Sackville-West and Miss Vanderbilt, respectively.

The movie retells the story of how Chanel first began selling hats – going against the grain of the trends at the time – attracting wealthy and stylish clients to the boutique, before selling clothes made with fabrics typically reserved for menswear, such as jersey and tweed, quickly garnering a loyal following who craved modernity.

The 18-minute film was premiered in full for the first time last night in Singapore, ahead of the unveiling of Chanel's cruise 2013 collection in the Asian city today.

The actress, who wed James Righton in a low-key ceremony in France on Saturday, is believed to have worn a Rodarte dress that she’d previously showcased at a BAFTA event in 2008.

For her special day over the weekend Keira Knightley stayed true to a ‘no-frills’ approach so much so she decided to wear the white gown already in her wardrobe as her wedding dress. But it was a choice well made as the star stunned pairing the short number with a Chanel jacket and ballet pumps. To continue the relaxed look over the celebrity bride dressed her hair with a headband of pretty pink flowers and wore sunglasses.

The star’s wedding dress made its debut five years ago at a pre-BAFTA dinner, although on that occasion she wore black tights and pups for a more winter-appropriate look with then boyfriend Rupert Friend.

For Keira Knightley and James Righton’s nuptials the sun was shining over the small town of Mazan, just outside of Marseille. Following the ceremony guests (who also stayed true to the relaxed theme in flip-flops and casual clothes) returned to the Chateau de Mazan to toast to the couple before heading to the Knightley family’s £3million estate nearby.

Rumour has it Keira Knightley is getting married in France over the Bank Holiday

Keira Knightley is set to marry her Klaxons fiance James Righton in France this weekend, according to reports.

The couple, who got engaged last May, will get hitched in front of just 100 guests during an intimate ceremony in Provence over the May Day bank holiday weekend, reports the Mirror.

A source said: 'Keira and James holiday together quite a bit in the south of France, so it’s become a really special place for them, which is why they chose to hold the wedding there.

'Also at this time of year the weather, hopefully, will be beautiful.'

The 28-year old actress, who is currently Marie Claire's gorgeous May cover star, recently told us that she and James weren't too bothered about having a big fancy wedding.

'We're not big wedding types. I don't need to have all that, 'Keira told Marie Claire. 'I'm just trying to enjoy the engagement bit.'

There's no doubt that Keira will look stunning on her big day, but will she wear Chanel? After all, she's the face of the Coco Mademoiselle fragrance and she currently stars as Coco Chanel in a short black-and-white film of her life.

Keira and James have been dating since February 2011 after they were introduced by mutual friend Alexa Chung.

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld has directed the British actress in the label's new short film

Keira Knightley's starring role as legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel has been revealed for the first time in a new teaser video.

The French fashion house released a clip today of the upcoming Chanel mini movie, which premieres in full on 8th May on the brand's website, entitled 'Once Upon A Time' and directed by creative director Karl Lagerfeld.

In the arty black and white teaser, the British star, who is currently the face of the luxury label's Coco Mademoiselle perfume, is shown alongside French actress Clotilde Hesme, who plays her aunt Adrienne.

American model Lindsey Wixson also appears as a glamorously dressed lady strolling around the promenade of a recreated Deauville in 1913 – the short film will be released to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the first Chanel boutique in the French seaside town.

The mini movie will also star models Stella Tennant, Jamie Bochert, music producer Caroline De Maigret, Lagerfeld muse Lady Amanda Harlech and her daughter Tallulah, as well as male catwalk stars Brad Kroenig, Baptiste Giabiconi and Sébastien Jondeau.

The full version of the film will be screened in May at the Raffles Hotel to coincide with Lagerfeld's trip to Singapore where he will present the label's cruise 2014 collection the following day.

So, what about he future of her love life now she’s engaged? ‘My boyfriend is a musician, so there’s no standing still,’ she reveals. ‘But the thing is about a walkabout is that you can’t tell anyone about it or they’ll come looking. So, it will be like [snaps her fingers], and I’ll be gone.’

As we spoke with Keira she revealed how she’s struggled to come to terms with life as a famous actress, in 2008 she was close to quitting the business but instead took a break and traveled through Europe.

‘I could have six fake weddings,’ Keira Knightley tells us. ‘God, that would be expensive.’ But it’s not the cost of the big white wedding that the star is keen to avoid, she reveals the day itself isn’t the part that matters to her.

Keira tells us: ‘We’re not big-wedding types. I don’t need to have all that. I’m just trying to enjoy the engagement bit.’ So what does Keira want for her relationship? She didn’t hesitate in citing her parent’s marriage as something she aspires to have saying:

‘My parents are together after 40 years. The fights are there, but they love each other. It’s not like the first three months, the first two years, whatever it is, but I think it gets more interesting or I hope so.’

‘I’m not sure I can define success,’ she tells us. ‘I think if I get to the end of my life having hurt as few people as possible, making sure the people who mean the most to me know they’ve been loved, I will be happy.’

‘The first time it happened, I was in tears,’ Keira Knightley says of being stalked by cameras. ‘It started after the premiere of King Arthur - ten people were outside my house.’

Almost a decade on and countless blockbusters later Keira has grown to accept the reality of being a star means you’re subjected to your photograph being taken – whether you’re inviting it or not.

She adds: ‘The machine that allows you to make movies, the trade-off [requires] you to sell it. Selling it means making yourself a public figure. You can’t cultivate the mystery. My problem is I like mystery.’
