As the first major event of the 2026 Awards season, all eyes were on the Golden Globes last night as some of the world's biggest celebrities and film stars descended on the red carpet in Los Angeles for the occasion. Not only did the event provide a much-needed dose of glitz and glamour amid the relentless grey and gloom of January, but it also set the tone for all the ceremonies still to come—in terms of celebrity style, at the very least.

And if there was one unmistakable takeaway, it was the dominance of the black dress. Long a symbol of understated glamour and classic Hollywood elegance, the perennial wardrobe staple returned in full force at the 2026 Golden Globes—but this time, it felt less like a safe choice and more like a statement.

The sheer number of stars who opted to wear a black dress for the event was notable in itself: BLACKPINK's Lisa, Ayo Edebiri, Jenna Ortega, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Mann, Teyana Taylor, Aimee Lou Wood, Ana De Armas and Miley Cyrus, to name but a few of the most major. Of course, these were interspersed with celebrities wearing more colourful and typically sparkly ensembles, but there's no denying that black was the standout shade of the night—and in these volumes, it can't be mere coincidence.

While I can't speak to each celebrity's precise motivations, the bleak state of the world right now and recent shocking events hang like a dark cloud over proceedings, even in the upper echelons of Hollywood society. In the US in particular, this doesn't exactly feel like a moment to be celebrated: the past few weeks alone have seen multiple ICE shootings, large-scale protests, unprecedented military operations, controversial policy moves, and ever-more-inflammatory statements coming out of the White House.

The prominence of black, with its sombre connotations, felt suited to the mood. Some celebrities went a step further by alluding to world affairs in their acceptance speeches, while the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Natasha Lyonne, Ariana Grande and Wanda Sykes wore “Be Good” and "ICE Out" pins in support of anti-ICE protesters.

With this in mind, the black dresses that dominated the 2026 Golden Globes felt less like a return to classic glamour, and more like a collective acknowledgement. Fashion has always reflected the moment it exists in, and this red carpet was no exception. Against a backdrop of uncertainty, grief and unrest, black offers a way to show up, participate, and be seen—without pretending that everything is fine. It's a subtle, sartorial mourning for the state of the world, if you will—and a way for Hollywood to dress for darker times.

The Golden Globes 2026 is over - and what a night it's been. Teyana Taylor's powerful acceptance speech went viral, Kylie Jenner's adorable reaction to Timothée Chalamet’s win was caught on camera, and Netflix hit Adolescence was an enormous success at the ceremony with three of the show's biggest stars - Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty - taking home awards in the acting categories.

But at the end of the night, the audience was truly transfixed by Hamnet star, Jessie Buckley, as she won Best Actress for her performance in Chloé Zhao's critically acclaimed drama. Last week, she won a legion of fans thanks to her brilliant acceptance speech at the Critics Choice Awards, and upon receiving her Golden Globe, Jessie gave some hilariously chaotic and heartwarming thank yous. Accepting the award, she said to the audience: "This is not a normal feeling or situation to be in, but thank you, Golden Globes, thank you Focus and everybody who supported this film."

She also went on to thank Tomasz Sternicki, the key grip on Hamnet, for providing the cast with tasty meals during filming. Jessie continued: "I found him one day at the back of his truck, and he was chopping up potatoes and onions and meat. He was making - and he brought his ginormous cast iron pot over from Poland - and he was making soup. And this soup started turning up on set, so it was delicious."

Jessie also mentioned her fellow nominees in the category, and specifically shouted out Hollywood royalty, Julia Roberts, who was nominated for her role in After The Hunt. She told the crowd: "Oh my God, the incredible women I am honoured to stand beside in this category. I mean, Julia Roberts - you are like a hero to us all...Thank you. Jennifer, Renate, Eva, Tessa - God, I'd watch you anytime, anywhere. You blow my mind."

Finally, she added: "My husband, he's really been enjoying the free canapés and cocktails, so thank you so much for having us along... This is a real, real honour. I love what I do and I love being part of this industry, thank you."

Kylie's sweet reaction to the news of Timothée's win was caught in the clip, and she can be seen mouthing: "I'm so happy."

At the Critics Choice Awards, Timothée surprised fans when he accepted his award and went on to thank Kylie, with the sweet nod going instantly viral. This week, as he accepted his Golden Globe, he once again gave a shout out to his girlfriend, saying: "For my parents, for my partner, I love you."

But it's Teyana Taylor, who picked up the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in One Battle After Another, who is currently going viral for her touching and powerful acceptance speech.

Starting her speech, Teyana gave a sweet shout out to her children who she said were watching close by, stating: "Oh, my God, I almost didn’t even write a speech because I didn’t think I would get this. My babies upstairs watching, y’all better be off them damn phones and watching me right now!"

Award season is officially in full swing, with the 2026 Golden Globes acting as the second star-studded ceremony of the year. When it comes to prints, few patterns evoke as much glamour and wild energy as leopard.

A staple in the wardrobes of some of fashion's most stylish It Girls, from Kate Moss and Alexa Chung to Angelina Jolie and Naomi Campbell, (whose Azzedine Alaïa bodysuit and beret ensemble is destined to appear on the mood boards of fashion lovers forevermore), the print has become a perennial favourite. Sure, it returns season after season, but new interpretations keep it fresh yet timeless.

This year, leopard print is back with a vengeance, making its mark on everything from the (aptly-named) catwalk, to red carpets, and street style.

Leopard print has always carried a certain mystique: wild and untamed, but also glossy and glamorous. Over the years, it’s gone through iterations and been co-opted by countless sub-cultures. From the grungy leopard fur of the 90s to the more recent Mob Wife trend, leopard, it seems, can change its spots.

But what about this year? All signs show that leopard is set to go all Old Hollywood, as Elle Fanning so beautifully proved at last week’s Golden Globes, where she opted for two leopard looks. Cardi B—who’s no stranger to a top-to-toe coordinating look—opted for a full leopard look when attending the party for Skims’ collaboration with Dolce and Gabbana late last year. Fittingly, the statement bodysuit was from the capsule collab.

Animal print also made a strong showing on the Spring/Summer 2025 runways, with designers taking bold steps to reimagine the classic pattern. Some, like Roberto Cavalli, opted for larger, attention-commanding prints, while others leaned into softer, painterly renditions of the classic print.

While the pattern has evolved over time, the core appeal remains unchanged: leopard print is a symbol of confidence, power, and individuality.

There was a definite revival of Old Hollywood glamour on the 82nd Annual Golden Globes red carpet, as leading ladies Zendaya and Selena Gomez paid homage to stars of the past with their gowns, hair - and necklaces.

Zendaya paid tribute to Joyce Bryant with her look, channelling the mid-century singer with a figure-enhancing Louis Vuitton ballgown in burnt orange and vintage waves in her hair. Gomez, meanwhile, described her ice-blue Prada column dress and retro sweeping bob as falling somewhere between Cinderella and Jackie Onassis.

Both stars completed the 1950s fantasy with a bejewelled, collar-bone clipping necklace of the ilk that was prerequisite for that Golden Era of overflowing champagne coupes, tight satin, bare shoulders, and big diamonds.

Zendaya’s choice was an elaborate collier from Bulgari’s high jewellery collection, set with more than 100 diamonds. At its centre is a spectacular oval-cut Paraiba tourmaline; giving the design a subtly modern twist for those in the know, as the neon-blue Brazilian gemstone was not discovered until the late 1980s.

Selena’s seemingly old-time necklace was similarly fresh. The shooting star-inspired platinum and diamond design, anchored by an enormous internally flawless emerald-cut diamond of more than 18 carats (which can be removed to be worn as a ring), was one of the star pieces in Tiffany & Co’s 2024 Blue Book high jewellery collection.

The Bulgari and Tiffany & Co necklaces were selected to amplify the pointedly retro stylings of these two red-carpet looks, but could we be seeing a revival of this style?

Elsewhere at the Golden Globes, celebrities embraced similar styles. Sarah Poulson wore a zebra-inspired striped black enamel and diamond collier from De Beers’ Forces of Nature high jewellery collection. Anya Taylor-Joy wore a supersized Tiffany & Co Star Burst necklace (also from last year’s Blue Book collection) with six large opals set at the centre of diamond-set galaxies.

Even for those who wanted a slightly more demure or contemporary look, the chicest length most definitely fell around the collar bone. Arianna Debose perfectly layered a Marco Bicego gold necklace over her high-necked chocolate chiffon Oscar de la Renta gown.

While Elle Fanning opted for a gold Cartier Pantheré torque – a necklace style that has been a catwalk staple at recent shows including Chanel, Isabel Marant, and Gucci.

Wearing such ‘grown up’ necklaces, as those selected by Zendaya and Gomez, without looking like you’ve come directly from the dressing-up box requires a certain level of confidence in your own style.

The key is to access that Old Hollywood glamour without it swamping you. It’s no mean feat, but as Awards season heats up, I imagine we will see lots more examples of modern-day stars wearing these very retro necklaces for us to aspire to.

The new year has barely begun and Zendaya has not only sent fans into engagement speculation meltdown, but she’s also started a new trend.

The actress wore a custom Louis Vuitton burnt orange gown to the Golden Globes award ceremony on Sunday night in Los Angeles, put together by her long-term stylist Law Roach.

Writing on Instagram, Roach said the look was “In honor of Diahann, Eartha, Dorothy and Joyce…[sic]” referring to various Black icons of Old Hollywood. The satin gown had a fitted bodice and voluminous back train, with heeled pumps in the same fabric. Zendaya’s look was completed by a matching copper finger-waved hair do and jewellery by Bulgari.

Just when we thought this year was going to belong to Mocha Mousse, a new shade has entered the chat. Rust or burnt orange is a warm and flattering colour that will spice up a cold and bleak January, lasting well into the summer months.

Now, most of us don’t have a plethora of upcoming award shows to attend, but that doesn’t mean we can’t channel Zendaya’s style. We’ve rounded up the best burnt orange dresses to buy now — however, we can’t guarantee they’ll come with a giant diamond ring.

Ariana Grande fans were not impressed when they saw a clip from one of the star's Golden Globes red carpet interviews.

At the prestigious awards ceremony on Sunday, the Wicked star spoke to Access Hollywood, with the reporter asking her who the first person she called was when she found out she was nominated.

"Oh my goodness! Well... my mom," Ariana said.

Then the reporter jumped in to clarify: "Is your grandmother still alive?" with Ariana happily answering: "Yes, my nonna! She's 99. Nonna was second."

But while Ariana didn't seem bothered by this line of questioning at all, her fans were.

One person reposted a clip of the interaction on X, writing: "why would she ask it like that"

Another person commented: "that is such a risky question, why would she ask that"

"what happened to saying 'hows your grandma?'" someone else asked.

"Wow. That’s a question for after the second bottle of wine," observed yet another fan.

Another person pointed out: "Cause if she was like 'no she died yesterday' then what?"

Oh dear.

At the Golden Globes, Ariana's film Wicked was nominated in four categories, with Ari herself nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture (rolls right off the tongue!). Wicked won for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

As for the "thank u, next" singer's nonna, she stole hearts in November when her granddaughter took her to watch Wicked with her in her native Florida — so fans are very much aware of how important she is in Ari's life.

As awards season progresses, we can expect Wicked (and Ari) to rack up a bunch more accolades. The phenomenon has been nominated for five Critics Choice Awards, with Oscars nominations yet to be announced.

Last night saw the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, with A-listers from far and wide gathering in Hollywood to celebrate the past year in film and television. And with the star-studded red carpet being the first of award season, there was non stop headlines - from Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner's surprising PDA to theories around a Zendaya-Tom Holland engagement.

It was unsurprisingly the Golden Globe award winners who made the most headlines, with the evening seeing a host of surprise triumphs.

Among them was actress Demi Moore, who took home the Best Actress gong for her role in horror film The Substance, beating out major Hollywood competitors including Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofia Gascón and Zendaya.

While accepting the award on stage, the 62-year-old revealed that she hadn't thought it possible, recalling a comment made to her 30 years ago that had led her to believe that she was not worthy.

"I've been doing this a long time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I've ever won anything as an actor," Moore explained in her now-viral acceptance speech.

"Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress and at that time, I made that mean that [awards] weren't something that I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn't be acknowledged."

She continued: "I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete. I've done what I was supposed to do.

"And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you're not done."

The 2025 Golden Globes took place in LA last night, and it was the glamorous kick-off to awards season that we had all hoped for. As well as a potential engagement soft-launch from Zendaya, there was an adorable PDA moment between Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner which has since gone viral, and host Nikki Glaser is already being praised for holding the show together following Jo Koy's controversial appearance last year.

And while many A-listers were unmissable at the Golden Globes last night (did you see Emma Stone's new pixie cut? And Zoe Saldana looking radiant in her sparkling Saint Laurent gown?) there were some noticeably absent actors, too. While Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were front and centre thanks to their Wicked nominations, Ariana's boyfriend Ethan Slater didn't walk the red carpet and was nowhere to be seen at the ceremony.

Ariana and Cynthia, who were both nominated for individual awards, walked the red carpet together at The Beverly Hills Hotel and later sat together as they watched the show. When Wicked won the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, it was collected by director Jon M. Chu and a handful of the Wicked cast, including Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh. However, Ethan - who stars in the film as Boq - was not spotted with his co-stars, or his girlfriend.

Ethan and Ariana have kept their relationship out of the spotlight during the Wicked press tour following the criticism when they started dating in 2023. Ariana had recently split from her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, while Ethan's ex-wife Lilly Jay - with whom he shares a two year old son - penned an essay on the difficulties of their divorce.

But there's a very simple reason why Ariana and Ethan weren't sat side by side during the ceremony; he appears to have decided to skip the Golden Globes altogether. While it could be down to the fact that he wasn't individually nominated for any awards, he wasn't the only actor from the main Wicked cast to forgo the event as Jonathan Bailey (who plays Fiyero) was also absent.

In an interview with GQ late last year, Ethan opened up about his relationship with Ariana and called her 'a genius'. He said: "I'm just really, really proud of Ari and the work she's done on [Wicked]. She’s poured herself into it. I’m really proud that I got to be there for that part of it, and I’m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did."

The Golden Globes is always a night to remember. As the first ceremony to kick off awards season every year, it's usually full of fun from fresh-faced celebs as they gather to celebrate the best talent in the entertainment industry. It also happens to be where A-listers are caught having private chats with their famous pals (ahem, the Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift lip reading debacle of 2024, anyone?).

This year, Zendaya has undeniably dominated the headlines after being spotted wearing a rather sparkly diamond ring on her left hand and reigniting engagement speculation. However, another clip is also going viral - and the focus is none other than Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner. The pair have reportedly been dating since April 2023 but have kept their relationship largely under wraps, and aside from a handful of public appearances (including those infamously sweet photos from the U.S. Open finals), they have been decidedly private about their romance.

However, during a brief moment at the 2025 Golden Globes, Timothée and Kylie were caught looking very cosy in some candid footage which has since been shared online. In the video, the stars in the room appear to be looking in the opposite direction as Timothée and Kylie quickly share a kiss.

It was just last year, at the 2024 Golden Globes, that lip readers also attempted to dissect a conversation between Kylie and Timmy, claiming that the pair were reportedly saying 'I love you' to one another. Aww.

In a recent report for PEOPLE, a source said: "They're both real with each other and things have been easy and fun. The ceremony took place in The Beverly Hilton Hotel in LA, and the red carpet was bustling with A-listers. Zendaya, who was glowing in custom Louis Vuitton, posed for the cameras ahead of the awards show - and the incredibly sparkly piece of jewellery did not go unnoticed.

In fact, she posed with her left hand visibly on her hip - leading some fans to believe that she's soft-launching her engagement to Tom. On X, formerly Twitter, one person wrote: "I’ve checked previous pictures of her on red carpets and she’s never warn a ring on her wedding finger until now."

Another added: "I'm sorry Zendaya is too pr trained to wear a ring like that on THAT specific finger if it wasn’t a legit engagement ring."

One account even showed a clip of Zendaya sat at the table, showing the ring to a passerby.

We're just two days into the new year and awards season is already creeping up on us. The 2025 Golden Globes is taking place this weekend, and the annual ceremony kick starts two full-on months of glitzy red carpets, weepy speeches and unforgettable performances at the BAFTAs, Grammys and Academy Awards - and what a way to ring in the new year.

This year, the Golden Globes nominations included nods to Wicked and Emilia Perez, with recent MC UK interviewee Zoe Saldana in the running for one of the Best Performance awards. And the Golden Globes winners could indicate who's likely to go home with an Academy Award in March. But - glamour and gongs aside - there's one thing that we are always desperate to know when it comes to the big shows: what are the A-listers getting in their goodie bags?

The 2024 Golden Globes took place last weekend, kicking off award season with a bang.

The 81st awards aired live from the Beverly Hilton, in Los Angeles, with Poor Things, Oppenheimer, The Bear, Succession and Barbie emerging as some of the big winners of the evening. 

It wasn't the winners however, but the presenters that made the most news at the historic ceremony, with the gongs presented by a host of famous names: America Ferrera, Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Pugh, Issa Rae, Oprah Winfrey, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell to name a few.

One of the most talked about parts of the evening saw a Suits reunion, as Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres came together on stage to present the award for best drama series.

The show has seen a resurgence this past year, reportedly breaking Nielsen's all-time streaming record, so it is unsurprising that the reunion was met with cheers and applause. 

Noticeably absent from the reunion however was Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, who starred in the legal drama as Rachel Zane, leaving the show after the season seven finale, to join the royal family.

And while Meghan's absence was felt at the Golden Globes, it was according to reports, nothing personal. In fact, it has been reported that the Duchess of Sussex was invited to join her former co-stars on stage, but had been unable to due to a prior commitment.

“She’ll see. She'll watch," Gina Torres explained to Variety's Marc Malkin of Meghan's absence. "She’ll be happy that we’re here.”

“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew," the Duchess of Sussex has said about the show and its resurgence in a previous interview with Variety. "We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit. But it’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it. But good shows are everlasting.”

The Golden Globes red carpet was the gift that kept on giving, from Natalie Portman's Louvre-worthy Dior sparkling gown to Gillian Anderson's Gabriela Hearst silk embroidered gown with a subversive twist (look closer). 

Another stand-out ensemble came, unsurprisingly, from Florence Pugh, who walked the red carpet in a firey red Valentino dress and some of the tallest metallic platform shoes I've ever seen.

Now, Florence is no stranger to a sky-high platform having worn the style to various other high-profile events (the Valentino show during Paris Fashion Week as pictured below is a sterling example). She attended the Golden Globes in LA in support of Christopher Nolan's historical epic Oppenheimer, which swept the board on the night and won the prestigious Best Drama Motion Picture. The actor also lent her voice to The Boy and the Heron, winner of Best Animated Picture.

Florence's dress was custom-made by Valentino, crafted with bright red chiffon and afforded with red rosettes. The wrap bodice is a style often favoured by the actor, as is the sheer material, but the incredible platform shoes are everything. She paired her vibrant ensemble with a glittering beaded necklace and flawless make-up with a pop of Valentino lipstick. 

Valentino put sky-high platforms back on the map in 2023, so it would make sense for fashion-forward Florence to pay homage to the brand with her choice of footwear to kick off the awards season this year (ahem, not long to go until Oscars 2024) .

Selena Gomez has finally addressed what she was whispering to Taylor Swift during that viral Golden Globes moment - and no, she wasn't talking about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

The 81st Golden Globes certainly delivered. As well as red-carpet glamour in abundance, there were plenty of meme-worthy moments, from Timothée and Kylie's PDA to a heartfelt Mamma Mia! reunion, and Jennifer Lawrence mouthing that she'll leave if she doesn't win, right before her pal Emma Stone scooped the prize for Best Actress. 

But perhaps the most intriguing was the animated exchange between Selena Gomez and her celebrity BFF Taylor Swift. Selena was seen sharing some news with Taylor and actor and wife of Miles Teller, Keleigh Sperry, during an ad break at the awards. The Blank Space singer is visibly shocked, sending social media into a frenzy of theorizing over what Selena said to Taylor. 

Many fans speculated that the conversation was about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, who were sitting doing some intensive eye-gazing just a few tables away. Cue various iterations of a rumour that Selena asked Timothée for a picture and Kylie responded with a flat no. Awkward.

Over on social, fans praised Selena for her 'realness' with one writing on X: "Selena so real. Whenever something happens to me, I'm running straight to my girls."

But Selena has now set the record straight, explaining that the conversation had nothing to do with the couple. On Instagram after the event, Selena commented on a headline that suggested she was talking about the couple, writing: "Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone's business."

There have long been rumours about a feud between Selena and best friends Hailey Bieber and Kylie, but both parties have since insisted that they've buried the hatchet, with Selena insisting on social media that she's a 'fan of Kylie'.

Meanwhile, Timothée has also shut down the rumours that there is any drama between him and Selena. Speaking with TMZ while out and about in Beverley Hills this week, he vaguely addressed the rumours. When questioned if he and Selena are cool, the Wonka actor replied: "Of course." 

Then when asked if there's any truth to Kylie 'being a mean girl and snubbing Selena', he replied: "No."

Margot Robbie was taken by surprise at the 2024 Golden Globes when a reporter asked her to have a sniff of the viral Jacob Elordi's bathwater candle, inspired by the film of the moment, Saltburn.

It was one of the film's most memorable scenes, when Oliver Quick - a troubled Oxford student visiting his new pal's decadent country estate for the summer - drinks the bathwater previously populated by said friend Felix (played by Jacob Elordi). Oliver's obsession with Felix reaches disturbing new heights when he gleefully slurps on the water that was not only infused with Felix's sweat but also the remnants of a self-love session that occurred moments earlier.

Emerald Fennell's Saltburn is a cultural phenomenon, exciting public interest not only for its shock tactics (Barry Keoghan's grave scene, IYKYK) but also for its killer noughties soundtrack and nostalgic fashion moments. It's no surprise that brands are already capitalising on the success of the film. But one bit of merch we hadn't bargained for was a candle that smells like Jacob Elordi's bathwater. 

Not only is it available to buy, but this rather unique candle has made its way to the Golden Globes red carpet, and wafted under the nose of Barbie superstar Margot Robbie. 

Entertainment Tonight presented one of the candles to Margot and her Barbie co-star America Ferrera on their way into the awards event on Sunday (7th January, 2024), asking Margot what she thought of the scent. 

"I haven't even seen it [Saltburn] yet, that is amazing," Margot told the reporter, before sniffing the product. The Barbie actor then continued: "Mm, smells just like Jacob Elordi's bathwater. So accurate."

Viewers of the video were confused by just how Margot knows what Jacob Elordi's bathwater smells like, writing: "How [does] she know?" on X (formerly Twitter). Margot didn't elaborate on the comments further.

The 81st annual Golden Globes was full of memorable moments, from Oppenheimer sweeping the board to impeccable Golden Globes red carpet moments (Gillian Anderson's dress, FYI). But it was the seemingly normal moments between these super celebrities that really had everyone talking, from Selena Gomez's animated chat with Taylor Swift to Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner's PDA.

New (ish) couple Timothée and Kylie were very much putting on a united front at the prestigious event in the Beverley Hilton Hotel, with Kylie there to support Timothée who was nominated for the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Award thanks to his performance Wonka. 

The pair were spotted enjoying a flirty exchange in the ad breaks, but exactly what they were saying to each other was difficult to decipher. Enter forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman, who has unpacked their intimate exchange for Page Six - and it was actually a very sweet moment, apparently. 

According to Freeman, it went something like this - Kylie is playing with Timothée's necklace as he says to her: "You're amazing." She then compliments the actor's jewellery telling him that it's "nice" and he agrees, saying: "I love it too."

Then Kylie replied with: "I love you." To which Timothée responds: “I really care about you.” Kylie then quipped: "I don’t care about you, I really love someone else," followed by a fair amount of smooching.

Fans were quick to comment on the couple's loved-up appearance, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on their exchange. 

"How could you say that Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet aren’t in love?" asked one fan. While another wrote: "Don’t know but I like them together. They are a cute couple."

Timothée and Kylie are thought to have been dating for around a year now, with pictures of them laughing together during Paris Couture Week circulating in January 2023.

An insider told Entertainment Tonight in April 2023: "It’s been really fun for her because it feels a lot different than her past relationships. It’s new and exciting for Kylie, and she’s having a lot of fun."

The source added that while Kylie was enjoying her time with the actor, it was "nothing serious". Looks like things have ramped up a lot since then... 

The Golden Globes red carpet kicked off awards season in style, with the likes of Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa and Natalie Portman donning their finest designer dresses for the occasion.

While there were some epic looks, none stood out to me quite as much as Margot Robbie's hot pink sequin gown and ruffle cape, custom made by Armani Privé.

The actor, who was nominated for her role in Great Gerwig's Barbie, stayed in character for the evening, since her dress was inspired by the beloved doll.

As with the film's press tour, where designers re-imagined a certain Barbie for each of Margot's looks, Armani took inspiration from 1977's 50th anniversary SuperStar Barbie.

According to the packaging, Barbie entered the 'dazzling superstar era, wowing fans with dazzling fashions and hairstyles' and was one of the 'glitziest' looks ever, thanks to a pink satin gown and a ruffle boa.

Armani re-imagined this iconic look with hand-sewn sequins and a tulle boa, reminiscent of his AW22 Haute Couture show which also featured plenty of pink. You can see a detailed video below.

Later that evening, Margot changed into an identical look, this time all in black. We can expect some more Barbie-inspired looks as the movie carries on sweeping awards season.

While the actor narrowly missed out on a gong (Emma Stone won instead for her performance in Poor Things), Barbie did win the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award while Billie Eilish won Original Song with What Was I Made For?

The Golden Globes kicked off the 2024 awards season last night, with the likes of Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone walking away with the prestigious gold trophy. While the Golden Globes red carpet was a lesson in Hollywood glamour - looking at you, Natalie Portman - what happened inside The Beverly Hilton has piqued viewers interest much more. 

From Jennifer Lawrence telling the camera she'll leave if she doesn't win, to Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet's eye-gazing and PDA, social media has been awash with clips from the ceremony. However, it is one moment between Selena Gomez and her celebrity BFF Taylor Swift that has had everyone talking. 

In a video circulating online, Selena can be seen heading over to Taylor's table and the pair begin an animated conversation, with Taylor appearing shocked by whatever Selena has told her. Of course, the internet went into overdrive trying to decipher what the pair were gossiping about, with the most popular theory involving Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. Eagle-eyed netizens claimed Selena was sharing that Kylie had refused to let her take a picture with the Wonka actor.

However, lip reader Jeremy Freeman has spoken to The Mirror to confirm what he believes the pair were discussing in the clip. Referring to one moment in the video, he told the publication that after Selena whispered in Taylor's ear, the Blank Space singer said: "No f***ing way dude, you’ll have a job getting that removed you know."

He adds that he interpreted Selena's reply to be: "Possibly, but I'm in love with it, which is a reference I'm not gonna quit, I'm in love."

Later, Freeman claims that Selena says to Taylor: "Do you know what they said/did to me?" 

He believes that Taylor replies: "S**t, what the..." before adding: "Oh my God, love you."

Selena continues: "Brought them back together... I tried, I couldn't, it'll upset em."

Some X users enjoyed the fact that Selena and Taylor were debriefing at the show, with one writing: "Selena so real. Whenever something happens to me i’m running straight to my girls."

Despite the fact that we don't actually know what Selena and Taylor were talking about, and that the lip reading interpretations are fairly puzzling out of context of that conversation, in the past similar clips have gained traction online - last year, it was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's Grammys interaction.

Every year, the ceremony kicks off award season by celebrating the very best in film and TV, and this year it was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles with Hollywood heavyweights like Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone and Robert Downey Jr heading home with the prestigious gold trophy.

The Golden Globes is often seen as an early indication of who might be taking an Academy Award home in just a couple of months - so if this is anything to go by, the Oscars 2024 could be a very exciting one...

And just like that, Red carpet season has officially started. Yes, get ready to see everyone bring their A-game for truly show stopping displays of fashion finery. The 2024 Golden Globes red carpet kicked things off in a suitably stylish manner with the red carpet awash with some of our favourite looks spotted during fashion week.

Celebrities descended on The Beverly Hilton in LA for the star-studded awards ceremony which was presented by stand up comedian Jo Koy.

When it comes to trends, this year saw several take centre stage. First, let’s hear it for sequins and metallics. Taylor Swift's striking lime green Gucci column dress sparkled across the carpet (we love the delicate back-cut out detailing and De Beers diamonds too) whilst a host of celebs including Emma Stone, Elizabeth Debicki, Naomi Watts and Isa Rae opted for shades of metals from silver to rust. 

The red carpet was littered with pink dresses (no surprises there, after all it was the year of Barbie) and several celebrities chose the hue for their Golden Globes ensemble. Margot Robbie lead the way in a stunning bespoke Giorgio Armani Privé gown accessorised with a frilled cape—it's most definitely giving Superstar Barbie. Notable shout out for Jennifer Lopez, who can do no wrong in our eyes, giving bombshell wearing bespoke Nicole + Felicia Couture with Maison Boucheron jewellery and Hunter Schafer who looks completely ethereal in stunning Prada—a real stand out from the Milan SS24 shows. Elsewhere, we saw Hailee Steinfeld in Prada, Keltie Knight in an embellished pink gown and Reese Witherspoon with a pink band across the neckline of her Monique Lhuillier dress. 

There was no shortage of all black, a stalwart of the red carpet, either. Notable shoutout goes to Rosamund Pike, star of Saltburn, who stunned in a dramatic bespoke Dior accessorised with a Philip Treacy veil and Maison Boucheron jewellery, Jennifer Laurence in Christian Dior, Jodie Foster in Alberta Ferretti and Greta Gerwig in Fendi couture.  And, in contrast, white gowns—arguably fewer than we've seen in years before—were on show too, our favourite being Gillian Anderson whose showstopping Gabriela Hearst dress was perfectly finished off with a metallic Aquazzura bag.

The 2024 Golden Globes are set to take place this weekend, with the annual show held this year on Sunday 7 January.

The 81st awards will air live from the Beverly Hilton, in Los Angeles, with the gongs presented by a host of famous names: America Ferrera, Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Pugh, Issa Rae, Oprah Winfrey, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell to name a few.

Sunday's show signals the start of award season. And this year, judging by the Golden Globe nominations, the 2024 awards look set to make history. 

From Barbie and Oppenheimer, to Saltburn and Maestro, there have been some iconic releases this past year. So many in fact that predicting the category winners is near impossible. 

Greta Gerwig's Barbie topped the nominations list with 10 nods, making it the second most nominated film in the award show's history. Behind it this year is Oppenheimer (eight nominations) and Killing of the Flower Moon, and Poor Things, with seven nods each.

It's not the nominations that are getting the world talking about the Golden Globes in its run up however, but rather the attendees, with reports that Travis Kelce won't be joining Taylor Swift at the annual awards.

The 'Blank Space' singer will be making an appearance, with Swift nominated for a Golden Globe herself for her record-breaking 'Eras Tour' movie. 

In fact, if she wins, she will make history as the first ever recipient of the award, with 'Cinematic and Box Office Achievement' being a brand new category this year.

But while Swift will be in attendance, it is expected that her boyfriend Travis Kelce will not, due to his football obligations. 

Kelce, a tight end for Kansas City Chiefs, is scheduled to play the Los Angeles Chargers that same day, so despite being in the area, it is unlikely that the NFL player will be able to attend.

This week saw the 80th annual Golden Globes, hosted this year by Jerrod Carmichael and held at the Beverly Hilton.

The ceremony saw A-listers flock to the red carpet from far and wide to celebrate the best in TV and film as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Banshees of Inisherin emerged the most victorious, with the film taking home three major gongs of the night - Best Comedy or Musical Film, Best Screenplay and Best Comedy Actor. And Jennifer Coolidge was not far behind, taking home the Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series gong for her role in The White Lotus, a show that also won in the Best Limited Series category.

One of the standout moments of the night however revolved around a different Golden Globe winner, Amanda Seyfried. 

The 37-year-old actress took home the Best Actress in a Limited Series gong for her role of Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu's The Dropout. But despite bagging one of the biggest Golden Globes of the night, Seyfried was strangely absent. 

Even stranger still was her excuse, with presenters Mo Brings Plenty and Cole Hauser explaining to the audience that the actress could not accept her Golden Globe in person because “she’s deep in the process of creating a new musical.”

Unsurprisingly, this phrase sent Twitter into meltdown, hailed iconic and prompting theories around a 'Mamma Mia 3' and a 'Mean Girls: The Musical'.

"Amanda Seyfried can't be here tonight because she is "deep in the process of creating a new musical this week" DO GO ON??", tweeted one user. Another wrote: "'Amanda Seyfried is deep in the process of creating a new musical and could not be here' is an oddly specific and ominous excuse for skipping the Golden Globes.'

Another posted: "Amanda Seyfreid is 'deep in the process of creating a new musical this week' is an iconic excuse. Must use it!"

Seyfried weighed in after the Globes, posting a video to her social media accounts to acknowledge the award and confirm the news of her new musical. 

“Oh boy, I missed a big night out there,” she announced in an Instagram video, crediting the team behind The Dropout, who she says "are the reason that I got this award".

“It is a true honour to have been a part of [the Golden Globes]," she continued. "And I had to miss it because I am working on something that is magic, and it’s a musical, so I’m finally getting to do something that I’ve never really done."

“It’s a lot of work," she added. "It’s more fun. And it’s been a great night.”

We might only be ten days into 2023 but it's already time to welcome in awards season. Last night, things kicked off with the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards. And while Jennifer Coolidge's acceptance speech, Jerrod Carmichael's jokes and Angela Bassett's emotional win are making headlines, as a beauty editor, I'm way more interesting in the 2023 Golden Globes beauty looks.

Historically, I find the beauty looks at awards ceremonies to be a little, well, stale. But 2023's Golden Globes looks were anything but. In fact, I'd say last night's looks were amongst some of my favourite red-carpet beauty moments ever. From Jenna Ortega's shag hairstyle and Margot's subtle pink make-up look to Lily James's Hollywood glow and Ayo Adebri stunning nude lipstick—I was hooked on the content. 

I was so hooked, in fact, that I stayed up practically all night scrolling Instagram. I spent hours doing some digging into what make-up artists and hair stylists were behind each celeb's looks—and my research paid off. What I found was a pretty extensive list of each product used for each look.

And because I'm not much of a gatekeeper (I'd be a terrible beauty editor if I was), I figured I'd share the fruits of my labour with you all. So here goes, a top-line overview of the exact beauty products featured in the 2023 Golden Globe beauty looks...

Jenna Ortega

As far as I'm concerned, Jenna Ortega won the red carpet last night. She won. That's it. Everything from her shaggy wolf cut to her triple-lined eye was sheer perfection. In fact, I'd say that approximately 40% of my time last night was taken up with trying to get to the bottom of this look.

Miraculously, I've received some DMs from Ortega's make-up artist, Vincent Oquendo, with some details. "I wanted to do something she had never done before, but I wanted it to look like her and not have the make-up take over her look," he says. "I had all of these images of Sophia Loren and we felt really attracted to this triple liner look. I started by using a pale ivory, matte eyeshadow all over her lid and created the contour in her crease using warm brown colours."

And as for those super-long lashes? "I gave her eyelashes a really good curl and started to layer one of two mascaras to create the very full lash look before I even started applying falsies," he reveals. "Then I layered brown gel eyeliner on the top and bottom and set it with a jet-black liquid liner to make it pop." To finish off the lashes, he "cut a strip lash in half, applying it to her outer corner to use it as the bones". Single-flare individual lashes were applied "generously to both the top and bottom lashes.

When it came to Ortega's skin, Oquendo wanted to keep things fresh and natural. "I just used a very light skin tint and applied it softly with a fluffy brush, setting it with a translucent loose powder." To create some dimension, he then applied contour. "I sculpted her cheekbones with contour powder, keeping most of the colour on the hollow of her cheekbones as an accept," he says. The look was finished off with a tangerine-shade blush applied primarily to contours and swept to the apples of the cheeks. A masterpiece.

For Ortega's hair, hairstylist David Stanwell shared a quick snap of the hair products on his Instagram story—thank me later.

Margot Robbie

What is a red carpet without a stunning beauty look from Margot Robbie? Embracing various shades of Barbie pink, Margot's make-up was healthy-looking, lit-from-within brilliance. Her long-time make-up artist, Pati Dubroff came through with the product details.

As a Chanel ambassador, it's needless to say Robbie's entire make-up look came courtesy of Chanel products (most notably that subtly brilliant blush eye). However, Dubroff also shared some products she used for Robbie's skin prep, including a high-tech vitamin C serum.

Jessica Chastain

If you want my opinion, no one nails old-school Hollywood glamour quite like Jessica Chastain. And when I think of old-school Hollywood glamour there's only one beauty brand that comes to mind. Yep, Chastain's make-up look was served by make-up artist Kristofer Buckle using an exclusively Charlotte Tilbury kit.

The moment? Chastain's highlight was achieved using the brand's brand-new Hollywood Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter. Trust me, I've been testing this product out for the last few days, and it's good.

Letitia Wright

Leitita Wright's glow is, frankly, out of this world. This is one of those beauty looks that radiates health—and that isn't something easily achieved with make-up alone. Make-up artist Grace Pae revealed on her Instagram that Wright's beauty look required some very impressive skincare prep, including a high-tech LED light mask and Augustinus Bader's The Rich Cream.

The stand out product, for me, is Lancôme's Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer, helping to achieve that natural-looking but smooth-as-butter complexion.

Anya Taylor-Joy

I wasn't surprised to see that Anya Taylor-Joy's make-up look came courtesy of her go-to make-up artist, Georgie Eisdell, using Dior Beauty. One of the first Golden Globes posts I came across last night was a picture of Eisdell applying a Dior lipstick to Taylor-Joy—a stunning pinky-nude housed in a houndstooth case. The bad news? I can't find it anywhere online in the correct shade.

The good news, however, is that I did find the exact eyeshadow palette used. You win some, you lose some.

Selena Gomez

When I saw that Selena Gomez's go-to make-up artist, Hung Vanngo, posted about skincare prep for one of his 'clients' yesterday, I had a feeling it was going to be Gomez. Therefore, I spent the entire night refreshing Vanngo's Instagram page waiting for him to share more details—and he didn't disappoint.

After confirming his client was in fact Gomez, I did some more digging. Skincare prep came via Ole Henriksen products, while he executed the rest of the look with Gomez-founded Rare Beauty products. My best find? I uncovered the duo of products that delivered her impressively bright eyes.

Ayo Adebri

From the moment I saw Ayo Adebri's make-up look on Instagram I needed to know what the lip product was. Creamy, matte and velvety all at once, it was a real stunner. Thankfully, make-up artist Tasha Reiko Brown revealed the exact details—it's Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in 61 Intuitive. 

She also revealed some of the backstage tools she turns to for such looks, including a very nifty eyelash comb.

Lily James

Considering Lily James is one of the faces of Charlotte Tilbury, I didn't need confirmation that her Golden Globes make-up look was going to feature the brand heavily. Make-up artist Nina Park achieved James's look with an array of Tilbury products (including the aforementioned, all-new highlighter). Most notably, she used Charlotte's Healthy Skin Foundation for James's cushiony complexion.

Jennifer Coolidge

There's no doubt that Jennifer Coolidge wins an award for one of the most iconic acceptance speeches at the Golden Globes, but I say her beauty looks also deserves an honourable mention. Her make-up look, created by make-up artist Lilly Keys, was executed with Victoria Beckham Beauty products. Keys outlines the look below:

Skin: "The VB x Augustinus Bader Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer in Golden gave Jennifer such a gorgeous, dewy look. I then bronzed and sculpted her face using the shades 'Honey' from Matte Bronzing Brick 02 and the shade 'Sand' from Matte Bronzing Brick 03. To add a flush of colour, I used Cheeky Posh in 'Major' on her cheeks, and finished off with the Reflect Highlighter Stick in 'Pearl' on the high points of her face for pearlescent glow.

Eyes: "For a dramatic, yet soft, eyeliner look, I used Satin Kajal Liner in 'Ash' along the lash line and outer corners of her eyes, and the Satin Kajal Jewel Liner in 'Gold Lamé' to brighten the inner corners of her eyes. I then used Smoky Eye Brick in 'Signature' & 'Silk' to create a classic smokey eye on her lids, and added Lid Lustre in 'Honey' on top for an extra sparkle. I finished off with fluffy lashes."

Lips: "I lined her lips with Lip Definer in shades 01 and 02, and then applied Posh Lipstick in the shade 'Pout'. I finished off the look with a light layer of Posh Gloss in shades 'Bikini' and 'Tanline' to create the perfect nude lip with a high-shine finish.

The 61-year-old actress who starred as Tanya McQuoid in The White Lotus, took to the stage to accept her award, giving particular thanks to the show's creator Mike White, who she credits for giving her a new life.

“There were like five people that kept me going for, you know, 20 years with these little jobs. And Ryan Murphy, you were one of them," Jennifer Coolidge announced to the audience. "Let’s see... who else was there. It was just you, Ryan."

She continued: “No, but, I mean, I didn’t know anybody, and it just was sort of this thing that wasn’t going anywhere. Then there were these people who would give me these cute little jobs and it would just be enough to get to the next one. Michael Patrick King, you kept me going for a long time, and Reese [Witherspoon], you got me in Legally Blonde. And then the Weiss brothers would keep me going because some of these would go like five different episodes, and five different sequels of American Pie. I’ve milked that to death. I’m still going for six or seven, whatever they want.

“But I just want to say, I hope my agent at UTA and Tiffany, you all forgive me because the hook came out at the last thing I got an award at, this giant hook, and I thought it left when Vaudeville ended, and this hook came and took me off the stage at the Emmys. And I didn’t get to say what I really wanted to say at the Emmys."

She continued: "I just want you all to know that I had such big dreams and expectations as a younger person, but what happens is they get fizzled out by life or whatever, and you know I thought I was going to be Queen of Monaco even though someone else did it. But you know, I had these giant ideas. And then you get older and shit’s going to happen. And I just want to say, Mike White, you have given me hope. You’ve given me a new beginning. Even if this is the end, because you did kill me off, but even if this is the end, you have changed my life in a million different ways. 

"My neighbours are speaking to me and things like that," she continued. "I mean it, I was never invited to one party on my hill, and now everyone’s inviting me! It’s to you, Mike White, and I just want to say, if you don't know Mike White, this is what you should know: He is worried about the world, he’s worried about people, he’s worried about friends of his that aren’t doing well, he’s always worried about people, you’re worried about animals, and he really is one of the greatest people I’ve ever met... You make people want to live longer, and I didn’t. So anyway, I just want to say, Mike White, I love you to death."

Like we needed a reason to love Jennifer Coolidge more.

While we're a bit starved for a proper red carpet this awards season (don't worry, the Oscars will have an IRL one) we have caught some glimpses of pretty gowns, albeit slightly blurred and via Zoom.

One such gown was the fabulous Miu Miu dress Emma Corrin wore to virtually pick up her Golden Globes award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown.

On screen, we only caught a glimpse of that magnificent ruffle (it was inspired by Pierrot clowns), though Emma gave us a better look of the rest of the dress on her Instagram, which featured padded shoulders and a sea of crystals against a backdrop of black velvet. In other words: fabulous.

If you loved the dress as much as I did, you're in luck, because that very same one (yes, the one Emma Corrin wore herself) could be yours for as little as £10, and you'd be helping a good cause too.

The custom gown is being raffled off in aid of The Survivors Trust, a charity which supports survivors of sexual violence.

Money from this raffle will specifically go towards the Live Chat Service, which launched last year and has been a lifeline for survivors, during this time where contact is restricted. For every £25 received, you'll help fund the chat for one day.

You have until 8pm this Sunday 28th March to enter the raffle, for your chance to win the bespoke Miu Miu dress (almost £1,600 have been raised at time of writing). Of course, there can only be one winner, but knowing you've contributed to a great cause might just take the sting away if you don't win the dress.

Last night saw the 2021 Golden Globe awards, taking place virtually this year.

From The Crown winning big to Andra Day becoming the second Black woman to win the best actress gong, the ceremony made headline news from start to finish.

The biggest talking point of the night however surrounded Jane Fonda, recipient of the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, who delivered a speech on inclusion and diversity that is going viral.

Here is her speech in full:

'You know, we are a community of storytellers, aren't we? And in turbulent, crisis-torn times like these, storytelling has always been essential.

You see, stories have a way to ... they can change our hearts and our minds. They can help us see each other in a new light. To have empathy. To recognize that, for all our diversity, we are humans first, right?

You know, I've seen a lot of diversity in my long life and at times I've been challenged to understand some of the people I've met.

But inevitably, if my heart is open, and I look beneath the surface, I feel kinship. That's why all of the great conduits of perception -- Buddha, Mohammed, Jesus, Laotzi -- all of them spoke to us in stories and poetry and metaphor.

Because the nonlinear, non-cerebral forms that are art speak on a different frequency. They generate a new energy that can jolt us open and penetrate our defenses so that we can see and hear what we may have been afraid of seeing and hearing.

Just this year, Nomadland helped me feel love for the wanderers among us. And Minari opened my eyes to the experience of immigrants dealing with the realities of life in a new land. And Judas and the Black Messiah, Small Acts, US vs. Billie Holiday, Ma Rainey, One Night in Miami and others have deepened my empathy for what being Black has meant.

Ramy helped me feel what it means to be Muslim American. I May Destroy You has taught me to consider sexual violence in a whole new way. The documentary All In reminds us how fragile our democracy is and inspires us to fight to preserve it. And A Life on Our Planet shows us how fragile our small blue planet is and inspires us to save it and ourselves.

Stories: They really, they really can change people.

But there's a story we've been afraid to see and hear about ourselves in this industry. A story about which voices we respect and elevate -- and which we tune out. A story about who's offered a seat at the table and who is kept out of the rooms where decisions are made.

So let's all of us -- including all the groups that decide who gets hired and what gets made and who wins awards -- let's all of us make an effort to expand that tent. So that everyone rises and everyone's story has a chance to be seen and heard.

I mean, doing this simply means acknowledging what's true. Being in step with the emerging diversity that's happening because of all those who marched and fought in the past and those who've picked up the baton today.

After all, art has always been not just in step with history, but has led the way.

So, let's be leaders, OK? Thank you, thank you so much.'

And it's about time!

Nominations for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards have just been announced, ahead of the virtual ceremony to be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on 28 February - and what a night it promises to be.

From Nicole Kidman and Anya Taylor-Joy to Daisy Edgar-Jones and Cate Blanchett, every nominee is worthy of a gong, with Netflix original shows and films faring particularly well.

The Crown is leading in the TV categories, earning six nominations, including Best Actress for Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman and Best Actor for Josh O’Connor. And even Emily in Paris got a couple of well-deserved Golden Globe nods.

The biggest Golden Globes talking point however stems from the Best Director nominations - a category that has famously snubbed women in the past.

Greta Gerwig’s Best Director snub for Lady Bird in 2017 is one of the most notable, so loud that Natalie Portman made a political statement on the night by introducing ‘the all male nominees’. And on closer inspection, a female filmmaker hasn’t been nominated for a Golden Globe since 2014, with Ava DuVernay being the last to receive the nod for Selma.

This year, in a category of five Best Director nominations, three are women: Regina King for One Night in Miami, Chloé Zhao for Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman.

After years of calls for more female recognition in the category, this is definitely a turning point and we must ensure it continues.

The nominees for the Academy Awards, SAGs and BAFTAs are yet to be announced, but the fact that the Golden Globes has started with a well-deserved female-led Best Director category is a promising start.

Huge congratulations to Regina King, Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell!

Many things went viral at the Golden Globes, from Ricky Gervais' controversial (but hilarious) speech, to Tom Hanks' reaction to it and Brad and Jen's reunion.

Another moment which sent Twitter into a frenzy was Jason Momoa's outfit, or lack thereof. He walked the Golden Globes red carpet with wife Lisa Bonet earlier in the evening, looking dapper in a velvet dinner jacket and suit trousers.

However during the ceremony, he appeared to only be wearing a tank top, which naturally got everyone talking. One user wrote, 'There was a song in the 90s that said "I'm too sexy for my shirt". They're lucky Jason Momoa even wore a tank top!!' while another declared, 'jason momoa is the only man who can wear a tank top at an award show. the ONLY one.'

The consensus was that he pulled it off - both literally and figuratively - and when you find out why he took it off, you'll melt even more.

The Aquaman actor simply gave it to his wife Lisa, who was a little chilly during the ceremony.

He has since explained to photographers, 'I had to take care of the wifey'. Chivalry is not dead people.

On Sunday, awards season kicked off with the Golden Globes, and as has become the norm, actresses used the event to make a political statement, be it on stage - such as Michelle Williams defending abortion rights - or on the red carpet, like Olivia Colman.

The Crown actress wore a red dress by Emilia Wickstead, which featured statement puff sleeves and a sweeping train. But the statement she made featured in her jewellery, which you might have missed entirely at first glance.

Olivia wore a ring featuring the ERA 50:50 logo, an organisation campaigning for an equal gender balance on the British stage and on screen by 2020.

The award-winner has been vocal about the lack of representation in the past, recently stating she 'bloody well hopes' she's paid the same as her The Crown co-star Tobias Menzies, who portrays Prince Philip.

She is not the only actress who has been campaigning for equal pay in the US, with Frances McDormand, Patricia Arquette and Halle Berry all dedicating their Oscars speech to the issue in previous years.

With the BAFTAs and Oscars yet to come, we can expect a lot more debate, and we are here for it.

Award season 2020 has officially started. The year started in style as the A-listers gathered in Los Angeles, California for the Golden Globes, and there were memorable moments aplenty - from Tom Hanks' brilliant reaction to Ricky Gervais' searing monologue to Michelle Williams' passionate acceptance speech addressing abortion rights.

Everyone was also hoping for a Jennifer Aniston Brad Pitt reunion, but while he told reporters they were good friends they weren't snapped together. Sad. She did, however, have a priceless reaction to her ex-husband's joke about dating.

But there was one notably absent celebrity: Emilia Clarke. The Game of Thrones star decided to skip the annual ceremony, and the reason why is completely understandable.

Her co-star, Kit Harington, graced the red carpet with his wife and form GoT actress Rose Leslie. While he was nominated in the Best Actor In A Drama TV Series category for his performance as Jon Snow, none of the other actors from the show were shortlisted for an award.

This, teamed with the fact that Emilia wasn't presenting, probably explains why she decided to skip the Golden Globes this year, and it makes total sense. Because, let's face it, January is the month of JOMO - and that applies to the stars, too.

It's unclear how she spent her evening, but after a busy 2019 we wouldn't blame her if she was tucked up on the sofa with a cup of tea instead of spending hours glamming up for the ceremony.

Not only did she wave goodbye to her Game of Thrones character, Daenerys Targaryen, after eight seasons, she also starred in the cute Christmas romcom Last Christmas and announced that she would be performing in Anton Chekhov's The Seagull later this year.

Will she be walking the red carpet at any of the other award shows this year? We'll have to wait and see.

The make-up maestro's red carpet beauty secrets

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at the Golden Globes – or more specifically in the make-up artist’s chair?

Hours before the awards bash went live last night, Charlotte Tilbury and her team of make-up artists were busy getting the stars camera ready. We spoke exclusively to Tilbury, who explained that her Golden Globes 2020 beauty prep started with a celebrity brief.

‘They will often tell you what they are inspired by or a particular look they want to channel,' she says. 'Are we going with a dreamy nude look, golden goddess or classic, Hollywood glamour? I always start with that.’

Not surprisingly, the cut and style of the dress is also key. ‘I consider the shape and the fabric, too, but most important to the make-up look is the colour of the dress,’ she adds.

Why Salma Hayek looked flawless

For Salma Hayek, for example, Tilbury chose warm, neutral shades to play with the sparkle and teal tones of her dress. ‘The look was polished: beautiful, matte-fresh, airbrushed skin; a soft, lifted contour; shimmery chocolate and bronzy-red tones on her eyes and a berry-pink mouth. It’s a fresh, neutral and glamorous look that perfectly mirrors the decadent wash of sparkle from her Gucci, mermaid-esque gown.’

When it comes to serving some seriously good beauty looks for Hollywood’s most important night of the year, Tilbury believes you can’t rush perfection.

‘Make-up is a very intimate thing,' she says. 'I try to spend between 1-2 hours creating a celebrity’s look – but I have been known to create make-up magic literally in minutes! I’ve learnt to always be adaptable to the situation, move quickly and be nimble. Things can change so fast so you need to be ready for anything!’

Awards season 2020 kicked off last night with the Golden Globes, where Michelle Williams stole the show.

The actress not only won the best actress gong for her role in the mini-series Fosse/Verdon, but she chose to stand for abortion rights in her acceptance speech, earning her praise from the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

But Michelle also turned heads on the red carpet in a peach gown by Louis Vuitton, which was inspired by the French house's spring/summer 2020 collection.

Made of silk crepe, it featured an asymmetric and draped body with knotted details across the shoulders and a draped, cinched waistband, which just about showed off her burgeoning baby bump.

The dress took a total of 156 hours to create, from the initial pattern cutting to alterations and assembling, and I think we can agree it was worth it.

And the blue detailing on the shoulder sparked a little Twitter debate, with users wondering whether it was a bird or a bow. Well I can confirm it is instead a lovely blue flower, in case you were wondering.

Let's hope she didn't lose an earring

Every year as award season rolls around, the A-listers pull out all the stops to ensure they look picture perfect on the red carpet. And this year's Golden Globes was no exception.

Helen Mirren posed for the cameras absolutely dripping in diamonds - in fact, she was sporting a cool $4 million worth.

Helen accessorised her beautiful red Christian Dior off the shoulder dress with a bundle of Harry Winston jewels, included a cascading diamond drop necklace, a pair of stunning cluster diamond earrings with ruby drops, and a Winston cluster diamond ring.

She told reporters that she felt 'queenly' in her gown as it was the first time she has had 'a Dior dress made for me'.

Helen was nominated for the Best Actress In A Limited Series award thanks to her excellent performance in HBO's Catherine The Great. She told Entertainment Tonight: 'They say we are winning just by being here.

'What an incredible privilege and exciting thing that all those people watching us on television, thinking and wondering what it’s like, and here we are. We are here and it is an amazingly exciting thing…. It’s a very special moment, and I just try to enjoy it as much as I can.'

The national treasure missed out on the gong to Michelle Williams, who took home the award for her performance as dancer Gwen Verdon in biographical mini-series, Fosse/Verdons.

She used her acceptance speech to address abortion rights, telling the crowd: 'When you put this in someone’s hands you’re acknowledging the choices they make as an actor.

'Moment by moment, scene by scene, day by day. But you’re also acknowledging the choices they make as a person. The education they pursued, the training they sought, the hours they put in.

'I’m grateful for the acknowledgement of the choices I’ve made and I’m also grateful to have lived in a moment in our society where choice exists, because as women and as girls, things can happen to our bodies that are not our choice.'

Award season 2020 kicked off last night as the 77th Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton, hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Olivia Coleman were among the big winners of the night in an action packed ceremony.

It wasn’t the UK representation or Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s reunion that stole the show - it wasn’t even the all-vegan menu - a Golden Globes first.

Instead, the focus was on political stands, with pregnant actress Michelle Williams leading the pack.

The 39-year-old actress won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a mini series for her role in Fosse/Verdon, and took her time on stage to defend abortion rights following a year of reproductive right restrictions and call on women to vote.

‘When you put this in someone's hands you're acknowledging the choices they make as an actor,’ Michelle told the room. ‘Moment by moment, scene by scene, day by day. And I wouldn't have been able to do this without employing a woman's right to choose.

‘To choose when to have my children and with whom, when I felt supported and able to balance our lives as all mothers know that the scales must and will tip towards our children. Now I know my choices might look different than yours, but thank God or whoever you pray to that we live in a country founded on the principles that I am free to live by my faith and you are free to live by yours. So, women 18 to 118, when it is time to vote please do so in your self-interest. It's what men have been doing for years, which is why the world looks so much like them but don't forget we are the largest voting body in this country. Let's make it look more like us.’

The 77th Golden Globe awards was held this year at California’s The Beverley Hilton, hosted by Ricky Gervais. And with big winners from Phoebe Waller-Bridge to Stellan Skarsgård, it was memorable from start to finish.

It wasn’t the political stands around a need for more female representation in the Best Director category or the Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt reunion that made the most news however, instead it was the menu.

Yes. This year’s Golden Globes went historic with their menu, serving a vegan spread - the first all-vegan menu at the Golden Globes.

But what did that entail?

According to reports, guests from Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon to Brad Pitt and Greta Gerwig were treated to a chilled golden beetroot soup for starter. The main was King Oyster Mushroom scallops, accompanied with wild mushroom risotto, Brussels sprouts, globe carrots, and pea tendrils. And for pudding, a vegan opera dome with praline Gunaja crumble and caramelized hazelnuts.

‘As long term partners of the HFPA, we are pleased to support their decision to offer an entirely plant-based menu for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Our talented culinary team is excited to create dynamic plant-based offerings,’ Matthew Morgan, Executive Chef for the Golden Globes announced in a statement.
