Welcome to the world of the fashion house hotel takeover—the increasingly elaborate practice of luxury labels installing themselves at the world's most coveted coastal hotspots for the summer season.

Think branded deckchairs in Ibiza, Burberry-striped jetties on the French Riviera and a Gucci-emblazoned beach club in Monte Carlo, its Flora print steeped in genuine Monaco history.

It's part marketing, part genuine craft and entirely Pinterest-friendly—providing the perfect backdrop for many a photo. It also simply makes for a bit of fun, because why not waterski against a Burberry-branded backdrop or sip a Casablanca-themed smoothie while you're at it? Widely considered the most luxurious destination in Türkiye—and where I was lucky enough to seek out this season's top sandal trends—D Maris Bay's Dior takeover is back for yet another season. Casablanca has long felt effortlessly cool, so it's unsurprising to see the brand pop up in Ibiza, taking over the Six Senses Rocky Beach with boldly coloured cushions, sun loungers and sofas. Be honest, did you actually invest in the novelty bag trend last summer? No? Well, if a giant slice of pizza, a milk bottle or a plastic pigeon didn't make it into your real-life wardrobe—and I'm a fan, for the record, but I understand the trepidation—this season's take on the statement bag may feel more approachable.

Think, less shapes you'd find at the back of the fridge, more fringing, bold colours and prints that make even the simplest look feel more fitting for summer.

These new novelty bags also span a whole spectrum of statement-making comfort zones. On the more maximalist end, starfish and fish shapes—Simon Miller and Serpui make particularly beautiful versions—sit alongside Chloé's almost sold-out toucan, replacing last year's bestselling banana handle.

While the slightly safer side sees bold stripes, fun fringing and, more often than not, the merging of both in still-statement yet considerably more practical territory. Fendi, Aquazzura and Anya Hindmarch are just a handful of luxury labels leaning into the look, and they're being picked up by some of the best-dressed women on the internet as one easy way to liven up any outfit.

A simple black maxi dress, denim shorts and a white shirt, or a bikini and cover-up all look considerably more interesting with a rainbow raffia swinging from your arm, after all.

Shop Statement Summer Bags

With a heatwave settling over much of the UK, what did you learn from our last hot spell? Not to wear knee-high boots (I don't know how the girlies do it)? Switching your baseball cap for a sweat-wicking bandana scarf? Both are excellent takeaways but my area of interest has shifted to denim. It's such a staple for many of us that it feels wrong to exclude the fabric as soon as temperatures soar. But how can you sport it and not feel dizzyingly hot?

The A-list has come up with several answers. Firstly, Zoey Deutch's baggy jeans in an elegant indigo shade. I know, I know, wearing jeans that might pool at your ankles, adding extra inches that need to be dragged around, sounds like the opposite of heatwave-approved but, trust us (or Deutch), it's actually a more cooling way to wear jeans than anything more tailored, especially if you follow her advice about what to pair them with (more on that later). And P.S. Dark denim will hide any unwanted sweat marks and, ultimately, look far chicer than anything mid-blue or bleached.

Secondly, Bermuda shorts (or jorts), which have been trending for the past few summers and, surely, need no introduction. Again, they're slightly looser on the leg, allowing for crucial air circulation, but still have a tailored cut that's suitable for work, especially if you opt for a dark-blue denim.

Lastly, Rihanna's favourite: capri pants, denim edition. These are slimline but can also be paired with barely-there tops for balance (think, whisper-thin silks or cowl-neck halters) and ankle-tie heels for a look that's perfect for heatwave date nights (fiery, indeed!).

Baggy Jeans

Baggy jeans in a heatwave?! An understandable question/exclamation but here's the thing—you're always going to be hot when it's a heatwave, and if you still want to wear denim, you should know that a baggier cut might have more fabric but with crucial wiggle room on the leg, thanks to a wide-leg cut, it's going to feel a lot more cooling than a straight or skinny fit. Of course, it matters what you wear it with. Enter Zoey Deutch, whose ribbed tank and heeled flip-flops felt like a no-muss, no-fuss take paired with indigo turn-up jeans.

Bermuda Shorts

Instead of short-shorts, Bermudas have the edge this summer, especially pairs with a gentle flare or indigo wash like Ella Hunt's. Find a smart Bermuda, like the below pleat-front pair by COS, and you can most definitely wear them to work, tucking in a white shirt or knitted tank for a polished but positively cool outfit forecast.

Rihanna used to wear capris in the early '00s—and, 20 years later, nothing's changed except the fact that, now, she pairs them with the ultimate combination: double dark denim. It's a super-cool spin on a trouser suit—don't you think?—and, while you might not be able to wear the top half during a heatwave, it's a duo that's perfect for sultry evenings.

In this latest installment, we turn our attention to the exciting new era of Celine under Michael Rider. Having spent a decade working alongside Phoebe Philo before returning to the house as Creative Director, Rider has ushered in a fresh chapter that has reignited excitement around the storied French label. Here, we break down how, in less than two years, he has built on Celine's already-iconic status, further cementing its position as one of the world's most coveted luxury fashion houses, with stylish women everywhere eager to buy into his vision.

The Designer

When Michael Rider was appointed artistic director of Celine in 2024, it signalled a kind of homecoming—not just for the designer but for die-hard fans of Phoebe Philo. You see, Rider served as design director of ready-to-wear for a decade from 2008 to 2018 under Philo, honing his design language beside one of the most influential creatives in the sphere of women’s fashion, and contributing to the cult of @oldceline, the account that was created after the changing of the guard that brought in Hedi Slimane. While Slimane’s appointment initially divided opinion among Philo loyalists, his tenure proved undeniably successful from a commercial standpoint, driving significant growth for the house and attracting a new generation of loyal consumers.

Before Celine, Rider worked for another industry trailblazer between the years of 2004-2008, Nicolas Ghesquière, who then held the reins at Balenciaga. The American designer, who was born in Washington, D.C., has essentially worked for three household names in fashion because, after his first stint at Celine, he graduated to helming the womenswear arm of Polo Ralph Lauren. Known for its iconic prep—and tastefully executed sportswear—you can see the fruits of all three in what the internet is now calling “Current Celine”.

Style Notes

Michael Rider has already defined his Celine, choosing three words to encapsulate its essence before his first show for SS26. “Celine stands for quality, for timelessness and for style.” To those, one could add a certain intelligence—these are clothes for thinking women—and focus on the female gaze. Phoebe Philo’s most enduringly referenced pieces always lent a specific air to whoever bought them, whether it was the grass-coloured, menu-printed blanket (with entries including, “Bangers and Mash, £4.99” and “Jam Roly Poly”) or her black sock boots complete with contrast beige toebox. That air was hard-to-put-your-finger-on, cool yet clever, and it’s a legacy that is being continued by Rider, a designer who understands how to make easy, and yet erudite, clothes.

The Collection

Celine’s Parisian HQ—16 Rue Vivienne—was the venue for SS26, or, more specifically, its courtyard, with show-goers happily shaded beneath the canopy of trees lining either side of the catwalk. The setting, a snapshot of a breezy city life in spring, mirrored the collection in some respects; clothing that was classic-with-a-twist—artful yet undeniable wearable.

Rider presented a fully-realised wardrobe, with facets of tailoring (tuxedo jackets styled with skinny jeans), prep (navy blazers worn over high-waisted chinos) and feminine sculpture (jersey gowns twisting around the body), offering his customer “hero” pieces to collect—and wear for a lifetime (the cropped biker jackets, scarf-lined trench coats, gilded Celine logo belts, which have already flown off the shelves, and leather Derbies). The colour palette was distinctly Philo-esque, primary shots of canary, tomato and cobalt, which intersected with plenty of black and white.

“Old Céline” was how the fans referred to the brand under Philo (Hedi Slimane famously scrapped the brand’s accent over the first “e” when he joined the maison). Maybe Rider’s era could be defined as “New Old Celine”, considering his association with Philo, Or, maybe, he will carve his own path, while paying homage to the house’s storied heritage, and many chapters.

The Icons

The Celine belt sn’t just a thing of beauty; it’s a bona fide cult accessory. Cleverly incorporating the brand’s distinctive logo — two interlocking Cs rendered in curved gold-finished plates — it strikes a balance between statement-making and sophistication. The effect is arresting and artistic, a far cry from quiet luxury, while also serving as an ingenious marketing tool that continues to captivate customers past, present and future. A staple among some of fashion’s most stylish names, it has the power to transform even the simplest outfit.

The Impact

Whilst the house doesn't publicly discuss its sustainability practices, Rider used the words “quality” and “timelessness” to describe his Celine—and they go some way to helping the brand’s case when it comes to consumption. These are clothes that speak for themselves, outside a seasonal trend cycle, and, as such, should almost become collector’s items (rather like “Old Céline”, which surely still does a brisk trade on resale platforms).

Celine Fan Club

With a rollcall of fans including Meryl Streep, Tracee Eliss Ross and Michaela Coel, Michael Rider is certainly doing something right. After his most recent show, in fact, Ross commented on Instagram: “my my my MICHAEL RIDER what a collection.” It's also becoming a red-carpet threat (Hacks' Hannah Einbinder wore the coolest "gown", actually a turtleneck and tulip skirt, at this year's Cannes Film Festival).

What’s special about this collection is that you could cherry pick one item and deploy it whenever an outfit needs a little something extra. For summer, whether it’s an anything-but-ordinary white vest paired with a pleated skirt or a chic carryall for work, it’s her ability to turn the everyday into something fun and unexpected while always maintaining that polished uptown aesthetic New Yorkers are known and loved for. Finding something to wear in the heat that is comfortable enough for the school run, comfortable for navigating public transport on the commute, yet still smart enough to look office-ready by the time you arrive can sometimes feel like a real challenge in summer. Which is why I have been gravitating towards skirts that are either midi in length or fall just to the knee. The colour, fabric and print options are endless, which means this wardrobe classic need not be boring. From pleated linen in soft, buttery shades to more structured printed styles, simply pair with a vest top or a crisp shirt and your favourite sandals and you’re good to go.

The Ralph Lauren Clubhouse at Sloane Square, London

To celebrate the start of Wimbledon, Ralph Lauren is bringing Sloane Square to life this summer with a four-week immersive takeover. There are giant Polo Bear sculptures dotted around the square, plus The RL Clubhouse hosting everything from workshops and talks to family games and kids’ activities. From 29 June, it even turns into a Wimbledon screening spot, so you can catch the tennis live outdoors. Ralph’s Coffee returns with a summer menu of iced matcha, soft serve and Wimbledon-inspired favourites like strawberries and Pimm’s. There’ll also be shopping, gifting and eyewear, with proceeds supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

In Case You Missed It...

Zendaya is the opposite of a "smug married", except on last night's red carpet for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which took place in a meltingly-hot Paris, she had every right to be; not so much because of her husband but because of what she had chosen to wear: a gorgeously oversized T-shirt. Vintage, and naturally depicting the film's titular superhero, it was cool in both senses of the word; a lesson in undone summer dressing and not trying too hard.

The vintage T-shirt—or, in some cases, the vintage-esque T-shirt—is proving to be a hot-girl saviour this summer (especially if you dress it up with a pair of jelly shoes or smouldering heels). Jennifer Lawrence's off-duty wardrobe revolves around a rotation of tees—one of which pledges her allegiance to Mickey Mouse—which she pairs with elevated joggers or studded pants.

Alexa Chung is known for her vintage nous but, also, her "outfitcam" selfies that she's been posting on Instagram, most of which include what is a graphic or slogan tee (that's either vintage or has a lived-in look) from her extension collection.

Teaming hers with the ideal heatwave bottom half—fluid slips that grace the mid-calf—Chung makes a (very convincing) case for re-embracing the vintage-looking T-shirt, an item of clothing that might have defined your early '00s wardrobe if you were obsessed with the Olsens.

Vestiaire Collective's T-shirt section carries a wealth of pre-loved designer tees, but, really, your best bet is probably hanging in your local charity shop or nearest vintage boutique. And like Zendaya, who chose a motif that meant something to her, the best tee will telegraph something about your personality, whether that's your favourite band or cartoon character.

Jelly and ice cream, Jellycat toys, even jellied eels—jelly is the prefix of many a beloved item, and fashion has just added another to the list: jelly heels.

Following the wider jelly shoe trend that took over the feet of the coolest dressers last summer—their origins traceable back through the 80s, 90s and early 00s—the jelly heel is a more refined, sophisticated take on the classic plastic pump or flip flop. Still injecting a good deal of fun into any outfit, naturally. But now, luxury labels are leading the charge.

The launch currently garnering the most attention? Jimmy Choo's Jelly Drop 50—a sporty, retro-inspired jelly heeled sandal worthy of any Y2K Pinterest board. The glitter style, especially. Barbara Palvin just stepped out in a pair in Cannes and I haven't gone a day without seeing them on my Instagram feed since.

Then there's the Chloé Ruched TPU Mule, plucked straight from the label's Spring/Summer 26 runway, which counts Iris Law, Tessa Thompson and a considerable number of other well-dressed women among its fans. Farm Rio's jelly heel strappy sandal feels even more eye-catching. And Tory Burch's heeled flip flop has been given a very welcome jellified upgrade. All furthering my point: jelly heels are having a huge moment.

Though each one is considerably more polished than the chunky plastic gladiators that last summer gave way to—and the styling has followed suit accordingly. Midi skirts and vest tops, capri pants and shirts, a failsafe jeans-and-T-shirt combination. The more pared-back the outfit, the further the jelly heels will go to add interest.

We may all be Googling heatwave sleep hacks—window open, fan on, just a sheet, no duvet, is my personal sweet spot—but working out what to wear to the office in a heatwave feels considerably harder. That bikini and denim shorts, flip flops and mini dress, or shirt and shorts co-ord that looks great in the garden probably won't cut it at work. The women at Milan Fashion Week Men's Spring/Summer 2027, however, seem to have found a failsafe formula that's as simple as it is sleek: black and white.

This is nothing groundbreaking, of course. The two shades have long lived alongside each other in many a minimalist's wardrobe—just look to the Spring/Summer 26 runways of Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren for further evidence. But it's precisely this effortless simplicity that makes the pairing so appealing, and the small styling tweaks that keep it from feeling overdone.

Lightweight natural fabrics like linen, cotton and silk, lay the foundations for looking both cool and comfortable. While structure is what makes them office-appropriate: tailored shorts, midi skirts and dresses that meet even the trickier dress codes.

Layering the two together is what keeps things crisp. A white smock dress with a black fisherman's sandal, a black skirt with a loose linen shirt, a black midi dress with white sandals are just a handful of starting points, none of them complicated.

What is one thing you can’t start your morning without?
A coffee. Always!

How do you choose what to wear in the mornings? What’s your go-to work outfit and why?
Anything by Simone Rocha. I live in her tops and cardigans for everyday work, and her dresses if I’m going out for something special. Her pieces feel romantic but strong at the same time, which I love.

What are your in-office/studio essentials?
Candles and sweet treats. Our offices are in Notting Hill, so I’m constantly picking up cookies or something sweet from Crème or Choux. I’m completely obsessed with their cookies.

What is your favourite post-work, pre-bed ritual?
A cup of tea and some romantasy before bed. I was completely obsessed with Fourth Wing last year, it definitely kept me very entertained.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs? What’s your design process for a new collection?
Inspiration can come from anywhere, it really depends on which period of art or story has captured my imagination at the time. Our Once Upon A Time collection, for example, emerges from the pages of the world’s most enduring love stories, tales whispered through folklore, poetry, and the dreamscapes of childhood.

I love creating designs that feel like stepping into another realm, where romance becomes myth and each piece holds a spellbinding narrative of its own. Recently I’ve been immersed in fantasy, historic love stories and fairytales, letting my imagination wander and translating that playfulness into jewellery.

What gave you the idea for your brand in the first place?
I was doing a jewellery making course and visited the V&A, where I saw a 17th-century ring with enamel flowers. It completely stopped me in my tracks. I realised no one was really making pieces like this anymore. Champlevé enamel is an incredibly complex craft and was actually on the dying arts list, with very few people trained in it.

I also discovered I loved creating miniature designs. Today I work with some of the most talented enamellers in the world to bring my tiny paintings to life on solid 18ct gold.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
Working with beautiful jewellery every day and helping bring people’s dreams to life. Around 60% of our business is bespoke, so we hear incredibly personal stories, proposals, love stories, commemorating someone special, the birth of a child. Being part of those moments, even in a small way, is very special.

Can you tell me about the biggest highlight or “pinch-me” moment since founding the brand?
There have been so many lovely moments, working on engagement rings, being included in Forbes 30 Under 30, and creating pieces for incredible clients like Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker for their anniversary recently, others like Gigi Hadid for Taylor Swift, and Margot Robbie for Jacob Elordi and herself.

Biggest career achievement to date?
Seeing how far we’ve been able to push the craftsmanship. Champlevé enamel is such a rare art form, and I love when clients come to us wanting to explore something technically challenging. Those projects are always the most rewarding. We’ve recently completed an extraordinary solid 18ct gold cuff which really pushed what’s possible.

Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Surround yourself with trusted advisors who genuinely understand business and can guide you through big decisions. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work closely with my parents, who have been pivotal in helping me navigate many of those moments.

How has your business evolved over the years?
It started with just me and two employees working out of a space at my parents’ home. Today we’re a team of sixteen with an office in Notting Hill, which still feels quite magical when I think back to where we began. We are also creating much larger pieces, which provide a fabulous canvas to showcase the artwork.

What are you currently working on?
We’re launching our "Once Upon A Time" collection in May. It's very magical and fairytale-inspired, with pearl chokers and beautiful charms in our ready-to-wear pieces. Alongside that, we’re always working on incredible bespoke commissions. One of them currently includes a portrait, which will be our first ever, it’s pretty extraordinary.

Could you share any future plans or big projects coming up?
We have a few exciting projects coming up but at the moment they are all top secret! What I can share is that we’re introducing authentication certificates for our pieces, highlighting their craftsmanship and importance as modern heirlooms that can be passed down through generations. It’s a significant step for us as a business, and one that reflects how seriously our pieces are being recognised as works of art.

Versace's Pivot Bag

Dario Vitale joined Versace as Creative Director in April 2025, in what was a short but impactful tenure following the Prada Group’s acquisition of the Italian fashion house just a few months later. However, his first—and only—collection for Versace launched earlier this spring and referenced one of our favourite Versace eras: Gianni Versace in the 1980s. From colour-pop pedal pushers to pencil skirts featuring hand-stencilled faces, his brief tenure has resulted in a collection filled with rare, future fashion heirlooms.

The Pivot bag was one of his strongest additions to the house’s accessory lineup and is everything I want from an everyday handbag. The lilac suede and brown leather finish give this vintage-inspired design year-round appeal, making it the ideal investment piece.

Shell Necklaces

Filling your wardrobe with pieces you want to wear year-round is the key to building your forever wardrobe. And while within that there will be timeless staples such as great blazers, figure-flattering dresses and your favourite jeans, something I always gravitate towards is statement jewellery—and in the summer, it almost always features shells.

This week, shell necklaces are what I’ve been adding to basket the most. Not only do they help me feel that little bit closer to my summer holiday, but they’re such a fun and uplifting way to accessorise your favourite summer outfits, whether at home or away. I bought this four-pack set of necklaces from Zara when they first came out and receive compliments every time I wear them. Though that doesn't make the repeat wear of favourite jeans and a cami, or a go-to slip dress and sandals, feel any more exciting. So we search for small dressing details that can make even the simplest outfit feel that bit more striking, and right now, the coolest dressers are reaching for one elevated accessory: the headscarf.

Any avid runway watcher will have spotted the silk scarf making an appearance at many a Spring/Summer 26 show earlier this year at Zimmermann, Tod's, Calvin Klein and Ferragamo, to name but a few. It was only a matter of time before the look filtered into the real world. Though, as with any trend that makes its way onto social media, it's been adapted to meet many a personal styling demand.

While some chic dressers still reach for silk headscarves—plenty of which were spotted last summer too—crochet and cotton headscarves are proving equally popular, with a myriad of prints and colours to suit every kind of personal style and outfit. All of which pair especially well with the equally trending bug-eye sunglasses, truly evoking that '70s feel.

Think Pucci-esque prints or bold polka dots for those wanting to go bold, delicate Broderie anglaise for a more minimalist approach, and crochet and lace details for those leaning into romantic summer dressing. Nine of the most investment-worthy are listed below. And do have a bobby pin or two to hand, as it will make the whole thing considerably less faff. Trust me on that one.

Shop Headscarves:

You might be so good at packing a suitcase that you could list it on your CV. Or, faced with a cabin bag, you could describe your skill level as distinctly average, whether it's your time management (no clean pants + an early-morning flight) or inclination to pack the kitchen sink (I might need five pairs of shoes for a long weekend, right?!).

Everyone has their own system, even if that system involves sitting on your suitcase to make it close. But what if this summer holiday season, you approach packing with a modicum of preparation, taking advice from the experts—ahem, frequent travellers with fashion credentials—whether you're planning a city break or a spa retreat with girlfriends?

What To Pack On A City Break

Michal Kurtis, a fashion consultant who previously worked at Barneys, used to be determinedly "anti list" when it came to packing for a city break. Not anymore, however. "Up until last fashion month, I would have told you a packing list kills the fun spontaneity of the travel wardrobe," says Kurtis. What changed is that for the first time ever, she planned and photographed her looks in advance of fashion month. "I’ve got to say, Type A wins again," she says, adding that the whole process, "ensured my outfits were ready for the picking, and assigned for the right moments."

What you pack is subjective, of course, especially as city breaks can vary drastically in activity (high-octane clubbing to gallery-hopping), mood (hedonistic to zen) and temperature (scorching to breezy). Kurtis starts with pieces that she's bought or saved for the trip (there's usually something). "From there, I build around them with complementing elements and layers that can rotate between looks. Next, I throw in alternatives for any unexpected weather or overly-ambitious [air-con] systems that are out of my control. Then the extras, and this is where my gut comes in; I know the version of me that packed and the version of me getting dressed in a hotel room are rarely the same person." It obviously depends on the duration of your holiday as to what luggage you carry. Kurtis swears by two brands in particular. "A Rimowa check-in that has seen its day," a suitcase that has spent 10 years on the road beside her and, for a carry-on, TUMI. "I use [it] to save the shape of structured shoes and bags."

Her city-break essentials revolve around wrinkle-resistant, "pieces that can be worn sans-steamer, straight out of my suitcase," including jersey knits, "the slinkier, the better". Another golden rule is to not risk a misplaced bag sucking the joy out of travelling. "If I’m going to cry over it in a lost-luggage claim line, it’s staying home. I’d rather take risks on a tight connection than a piece too precious the loss will cancel out any good memory of the trip. I’m fully team "wear what you own", but nothing too emotionally loaded for a quick expedition."

What To Pack On A Mountain Retreat

A hiking trip requires less packing than you might think, which is yet another reason why it's good for the soul (never mind the great outdoors). Flavia Stuttgen is one of the chicest ladies on the internet, and has been on a summer mountain retreat for the past five years—Suvretta House, St Mortiz, is her pick this year ("It's been on my hotel bucket list for ages,")—relying on a small but perfectly formed list that includes trainers (Salomon), cargo pants (Citizens of Humanity), a swimsuit (Eres), a backpack (Lululemon) and a loungewear set (Varley). Anything she wouldn't take? "Heels, don't even bother considering them, and make-up as most mornings are spent hiking outdoors and most afternoons are spent at the spa indoors; it's very chill!"

What To Pack On A Kid-Friendly All-Inclusive

Florrie Thomas, stylist, consultant, content creator and mother of two, believes in the art of itemisation when it comes to packing for any type of holiday. "I’m pretty disorganised with most things in life but, when it comes to packing, I love lists." The Notes app is where it lives and, shared with her husband, it's become, "a sure way not to forget those specific but unmemorable things." (The bonus is that you can eventually cross items off—for good. "As your children get older and you no longer need bottles, dummies or breast pumps, it is beyond cathartic to delete these things off the list!")

As for what's on the list, Thomas generally brings enough for each child to have a new outfit each day—plus a couple of spares—as the baseline. "Laundry is always extortionate in hotels and kids obviously love to get mucky/have accidents so it normally works out at the right amount," she advises. She then visualises "a day in the life with my kids on holiday at whatever age we are at e.g. what do they need first thing in the morning/for the pool/for bedtime—and just tick it off. Lots of family friendly all-inclusive [resorts] provide helpful things like sterilisers, nappy bins and cots which means you can leave lots of your essentials behind."

What she does always make space for is SPF. "Way more than you think if you have a favourite; I hate having to buy whatever they have in the shop if I run out." Thomas swears by Skinceuticals (its Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF50) for her face and Institut Esthederm Adaptasun UVA/UVB Body Lotion, or "good old Nivea" for her body. For her kids, she uses Altruist Family Sunspray SPF50, La Roche or Nivea, and packs swimwear from Mini Rodini, Boden, Mini Hunza G, Liewood or Talia Collins. "My husband makes fun of my kids' swim selection as it's quite vast—I can't help myself! Long-sleeved styles obviously are the most relaxing in the sun."

For herself, Thomas packs almost a bikini/swimsuit a day for a week-long trip. "Again, I could take less," she admits. "But I love them and it makes me so happy having a chance to wear them! Then I try and take a clever mix of cover-ups/shorts and trousers for the day and outfits for the evening. There is nothing nicer than changing into something fresh after a day on the beach."

What To Pack On A Spa Retreat

For Susan Bender Whitfield, creative director and stylist, one of two bags works for a spa retreat: Antler's Cabin Suitcase or July's Carry On, which has an ejectable battery with USB C. She keeps it pretty refined when it comes to packing (her next retreat will be her ultimate, Thailand's Chiva-Som Hua Hin): "Bikinis by Hunza G, two or three pairs of sunglasses, a wide-brimmed straw hat, a pair of trainers and a selection of workout shorts, bra tops and leggings by Prism2, a pair of Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals, a mixture of long and short kaftans/cover-ups, a slip dress for evening, plus a pair of Gina Francine flats." Three things she would consider non-essential? "Eveningwear, high heels and jewellery," she says.

The go-to trend for celebrities to showcase their individuality and create new cultural meaning is to now wear pre-loved and rare archival pieces on the red carpet.

My style is quite eclectic, and I’ve spent many years in the fashion industry honing my eye. When searching for vintage pieces, I usually have a specific item in mind and will often explore vintage, secondhand shops, and car boot sales across the country to find it. My first rule is to know exactly what you’re looking for. Having a clear image of the item in mind—including details such as buttons, trims, and zips—can make all the difference. Secondly, it is also helpful to know the season and year the piece was produced, as this can help check an item's authenticity.

Check other websites and retailers selling the same piece, and take the time to research and compare prices across different platforms and channels. This will help you determine whether the item is authentic and ensure you're paying a fair market price.

Finally, always inspect an item thoroughly before purchasing. If you're shopping online, ask for detailed photographs from multiple angles so you can assess any signs of wear or damage. Look out for moth holes, permanent stains, discolouration, and repairs, and be sure to check linings and interior seams, where flaws are often hidden. The Investment Collector

This collector is searching for an investment piece like no other, the best example of vintage—haute couture, contemporary show pieces and rare antique costumes. In most cases, they’re craving archival pieces from an iconic designer linked to a moment in time from the personal wardrobe of icons and society. Think Zendaya in Thierry Mugler’s couture cyborg suit from the fall/winter 1995 collection, or Rihanna in the blue fur look from Christian Lacroix’s couture fall 2002, any archival Dior by John Galliano, vintage Givenchy by Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood, to name a few. It has to be museum-piece quality, which will always hold its value.

This collector knows the exact piece; it was most probably the one that got away. Firstly, they'll image search the piece and ruthlessly check all the specifics in fine detail; the season, year, fabric, colour, cut. The biggest fear is that the piece lacks provenance and is not in immaculate condition.

The Y2K Hunter

What drives this hunter is the influence of fashion as seen on MTV, reality TV, talk shows, tabloid magazines and celebrities, a nostalgic piece that carries the signature of that era. This was the time of the consumer digital revolution.

Many will search solely for styles and silhouettes that signify the era: low-rise jeans, It bags, logos, graphic T-shirts, see-through/mesh tops, and metallic pieces. When hunting for this era, the search begins by typing in 90’s /Y2k and trawling through the listings to find the piece they’re looking for. It doesn’t have to be by a designer unless it’s an It piece or logoed; it’s about getting the balance, mixing old pieces with contemporary styles. The thing that would stop them is price; a lot of these pieces were made of synthetic and futuristic materials, mass-produced and cheaply made. Sustainability wasn’t a big thing back then.

The Philophiles

Almost fanatical, the philophile is obsessed with the fashion design genius of Phoebe Philo throughout her career as a creative director. The female designer who single-handedly redefined the contemporary woman’s wardrobe. Her army of loyal followers knows product drops, limited editions and collections inside out. So scarce are pieces available from the collections that defined her tenure as creative director at Chloé, Celine and her eponymous label, Phoebe Philo, that you need to be quick off the mark to nab a piece.

Minimalist, effortlessly casual and cool designs peppered with idiosyncratic details, big mannish shirts and blazers with playful feminine touches. Authenticity is paramount and a Philophile will pay any price for her coveted designs.

The Sustainable Shopper

The sustainable hunter has no interest in the throwaway culture of mass-produced fashion; their priority is to create a thoughtful wardrobe. They thrive on reusing vintage and organic pieces to save the planet. It is about a deep-seated passion for craftsmanship, quality, authenticity, history, clothing built to last several lifetimes, not just a season.

Hunting for deadstock and vintage denim, boho chic, ’90s streetwear, and upcycled pieces, they’re looking for affordable clothing and fear being overcharged for preloved now that it’s trendy.

The Antique Treasure Searcher

A purveyour of antiques who buys into a romantic era and hunts for feminine gems that make you feel like you’ve travelled to a different century. Think of wafting around in faded chiffon tea dresses adorned with floral prints, lacy camisoles, pretty petticoats, Broderie anglaise dresses, embroidered gloves and capes.

No two pieces are the same, and a thorough knowledge of the era will help authenticate and determine a genuine vintage piece. Things that would put them off are signs of damage, permanent stains, fabric disintegration and previous repairs.

They hand-pick bags made with craftsmanship, top-notch materials and luxury details you won’t find on the high street. They will pay high prices for a pristine piece with a unique history or backstory and require professional authentication for their purchases.

Some trending items come under criticism—balloon trousers, we're looking at you—but there is something about a white dress that resists over analysis. It simply works. Has always worked. Will, in all likelihood, continue to work long after every other trend has had its moment and quietly retreated. Which is why, every summer without fail, the white dress earns its place at the top of the moodboard, though subtle shifts in cut can make it feel considerably more of the moment.

This season, the shape to know is the trapeze cut: generous, unstructured and entirely unbothered. Comfortable, sleek and surprisingly easy to style. Shell-themed jewellery, bug-eyed sunglasses and lace-up sandals take it into boho territory, as do black flip flops and a headscarf. Add a polished pump and structured bag, and it's suddenly rather more formal and office-appropriate.

Also gaining traction are pared-back minis that fall squarely into Euro Summer territory—especially in a natural fibre such as cotton or linen—a shirt dress for office environments and a 90s-style silk slip. Prints and textures are largely taking a back seat, keeping the cut and the white itself as the focal point. Just look to the women at the Monaco Grand Prix for proof.

The whole effect is part St Tropez, part Roman holiday, part simply got dressed without thinking too hard about it. Which is, of course, exactly what it should look like, even if the reality involved considerably more deliberation than anyone would care to admit.

Fashion's relationship with sport is deep-rooted and forever evolving, and while this summer has been dubbed the Summer of Football with the designer Stella Jean transforming the football shirt from terrace staple to fashion statement, right now it's also Formula 1 commanding our attention. This weekend at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, saw Lewis Hamilton take victory for Ferrari, with George Russell finishing second and Lando Norris completing the podium in third. That Simone Rocha's Autumn/Winter 26 collection drew heavily on the sport. Martine Rose's latest Nike collection is titled The Lionesses with a football-inspired website to match. And that every single person in the Marie Claire office, football fan or otherwise, is pinning Stella Jean's jersey outfits to their summer moodboard. The football fashion moment is no isolated incident.

Stella Jean, in particular, takes the typical football kit well beyond jeans and trainers, turning it into something closer to a patriotic fashion statement—effortlessly cool and entirely moodboard-worthy. A look sure to be widely recreated once the World Cup properly gets underway.

As Soccer Bible puts it, football culture remains luxury fashion's sharpest reference point. Track tops, jerseys and shorts have long served as inspiration across the luxury sphere—though this season, a more literal approach appears to have been taken, right down to Prada's very own black leather football.

And the appetite only seems to be growing. As Sky Sports reports, women now make up 35% of the total football fanbase, while 31% of adults in England are specifically interested in women's football—a number that continues to rise. Interest in the trend, I suspect, will follow suit.

Maria Tash was perhaps the trailblazer in fine jewellery, actively championing the art of ear stacking, while French maison Repossi has elevated the trend to high jewellery status with diamond ear cuffs in its Serti sur Vide collection—a stylistic choice once reserved for costume jewellery and demi-fine pieces.

All act as proof that the layered jewellery trend spans many an aesthetic, always within the more maximalist territory. And with two of Marie Claire's favourite dressers, Kai Collective CEO Fisayo Longe and corporate lawyer turned fashion content creator Lisa Ing Marinelli, sharing their approach, here's how to actually make it work.

"I have no rules when it comes to jewellery," says Marinelli. "Mixing metals? No problem. Coloured stones? No problem. Anything and everything goes." Her favourite way to wear it: unexpectedly. A statement earring with a sweatshirt. The largest ring on the little finger. Small details that immediately pull the eye away from the classic confines of fine jewellery.

Though she's clear on one thing: the teenage pile-it-all-on approach is not quite what we'd now call layering. It's less about stacking lots of pieces on top of each other and more about the pieces themselves becoming sculptural, "really focusing on the shape of the piece itself and not necessarily having to go with a simple stud or simple huggy," as she puts it.

Keep the word asymmetry in mind. A choker pairs particularly well with a long pendant. A layered bracelet look on one arm is all the more compelling with a near-bare arm on the other. "I love wearing things that are super casual, or something really not casual, and using jewellery to really set that apart," Marinelli adds, noting that the outfit you pair with your jewellery will always shape the overall effect.

For Longe, the same sentiment applies with a big emphasis on fun, a word we could all stand to weave more into our wardrobes. "One of my first inspirations growing up was actually my school principal in Lagos, Nigeria, Mrs Durand. Every morning at school she would sit outside welcoming us in and she was always dripping in gold. I wanted to be like her one day. She just looked so cool and expensive."

Her route to more Mrs Durand energy? One anchor piece, everything else built around it. "Usually there's one dominant piece, whether that's a statement necklace or chunky bangle, then build everything else around it. Play with different metals, lengths, gems, shapes and textures. Layering works best when there's contrast. A chunky plain gold bracelet against another with turquoise stones against another with orange gems."

The A-word surfaces again: asymmetrical. "The best layered jewellery always looks slightly accidental and not overly styled," Longe adds, the key aim being to create richness without looking too considered. Jewellery layering is an exercise in personality, after all. It's there to be played with.

This time last year, it was hard to scroll through social media or walk through any remotely trendy part of town without spotting a pair of lace-trim silk shorts. The lightweight summer staple was very much having its moment, thanks to Saint Laurent and this Hailey Bieber look, which spawned countless replicas.

Hard to miss, too, was the brevity of the style—hiked-up hems very much of the moment—and the barely-there pieces paired with them. Vest tops, babydoll tees and flip flops: lace-trim shorts were firmly a high-summer, heat-only proposition. The tide, however, has turned.

As with any good trend, the styling remit has since expanded considerably. Track jackets, blazers and even knitwear now making for altogether more covered-up takes on the style, all of which we're calling the grown-up way to wear lace-trim shorts.

Granted, not every office will welcome lace-trim shorts and a blazer. But for more progressive environments, they may be a piece you haven't yet considered for work. Layer a crisp shirt and short coord with a long-line, oversized blazer, polished mules and a laptop-worthy tote. The oversized shirt and longer hemlined blazer are key to feeling more boardroom than beach.

The Holiday Daytime Look

US label Doen have been leading the charge when it comes to lace-trimmed satin shorts feeling day-time appropriate. The trick is to keep your top half loose to balance out the shorter shorts. This pair in a beautiful shade of washed out teal is perfect paired with a palette of fresh whites and soft browns. Such an easy look when navigating a heat-wave on the weekend, or for when heading to the beach with friends.

The Late-Night Look

Late-night settings, be it a restaurant, a bar, or a party, are where lace-trim shorts come into their own. For a more refined take, a crisp cotton shirt, snake print pumps and silver-toned jewellery make for an especially elevated accompaniment. Add a slim belt to define the break between top and bottom, and you're done.

Jeanne Toussaint. Elsa Perretti. Suzanne Belperron. If you love jewellery, you’ll be familiar with the names of these extraordinary women, each of whom forged her own path and left an indelible mark on the industry.

Toussaint (1887 – 1976) was the visionary creative director responsible for pioneering the vibrant and voluminous motifs at Cartier between 1933 and 1970, including its sensuous, three-dimensional panther, which captured the hearts of luminaries like the Duchess of Windsor and opera star Maria Callas. Meanwhile Perretti (1940 – 2021) brought a catwalk-worthy sensibility to Tiffany & Co. during the 1970s. Crafted in sterling silver, many of her organically-inspired creations – such as the Bone Cuff, Bean Pendant and Scorpion Necklace – helped to elevate the once-humble metal to a luxurious must-have and remain amongst the company’s bestselling designs today. And Suzanne Belperron (1900- 1983) became famous for daring to blend precious gemstones with unconventional materials like rock crystal in her sculptural designs. During the Nazi occupation of Paris in the 1940s, she became a member of the Resistance and bought the jewellery company of her employer, Bernard Herz, giving it her own name to preserve it from being destroyed.

Now a new generation of jewellers has taken up the mantle left by these exceptional women. In an industry navigating economic uncertainty, political instability and the concerns of climate change, they continue to defy conventions and champion both craftsmanship and ingenuity, all in their own inimitable style. In pursuing their passion for creativity, they produce beautiful jewels that shape the desires of women across the globe.

The Innovator: Anabela Chan

“Jewellery is the most magical thing you can wear, it transcends generations and has the ability to bring immense personal joy,” says London-based Anabela Chan, of what drew her to jewellery. “It’s also a chance to escape from the ordinary to a realm where anything is possible.” Born in Hong Kong, she worked in architecture and fashion before earning her Master of Arts degree in goldsmithing & jewellery from the Royal College of Art in 2013. In a quest for greater sustainability wherever possible, Chan blends her love of science with botanically inspired designs that are worn by stars like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. Her collections have included recycled aluminium cans, ethically farmed pearls, and reconstituted stones created from cast-off materials. Fruit Gems, her latest venture, is a range of colourful jewels made from pigments derived from fruit and vegetable waste set in a plant-based resin that can be cast like metal or faceted like a gemstone

The Ethical Champion: Pippa Small MBE

Renowned for her ‘talismans for modern life’, Pippa Small’s entire career has been guided by her interest in human rights, indigenous communities and preserving traditional craftsmanship. In 2008, she began partnering with the charity Turquoise Mountain to support artisans in countries affected by conflict such as Myanmar, Afghanistan and the Levant, protecting traditional craftsmanship and livelihoods and providing a platform for education. In 2021, she and a colleague also founded their own NGO, Zindagi Now, in Kabul as “a space for women to learn jewellery-making and business skills together.” Her colourful pieces are all handmade, with a textural quality steeped in the stories of ancient cultures. “Making has a profound power. It creates confidence, independence and hope,” she says. “When the world feels smaller, harsher and divided, I love that my clients choose to wear these pieces as talismans, expressions of solidarity and appreciation for human connection.”

The Pearl Revisionist: Melanie Georgacopoulos

Once relegated to our grandmother’s jewellery boxes, pearls have undergone an image overhaul in recent years, thanks in no small part to Greek designer Melanie Georgacopolous. During her master’s degree at the Royal College of Art, she began experimenting with sliced pearls, incorporating their tree ring-like interiors into her sculptural jewels – a technique she carried into her own eponymous brand, which she founded in 2010. “I was trying to understand what was inside the pearl and how it was made, and this idea of exploring how they could be integrated in contemporary culture,” she explains. “I think it was also my way of refusing to accept conventional ideas of what gemstones could or should look like.” Likewise, as head designer at Japanese pearl jeweller Tasaki, she has slashed, studded and faceted lustrous Akoya pearls like precious stones, threaded them onto slinky bracelets and sandwiched them between twisting chains, creating collections that are both timeless and utterly directional.

The Boundary Breaker: Thelma West

Born in Lagos, West has been immersed in the world of diamond dealing and jewellery design for almost two decades. But her fascination with sparkle began much earlier. “I grew up watching the women around me enjoy adornment. Jewellery was always part of the ritual of getting ready, something emotional, expressive and shared,” she says, of her Nigerian upbringing. “Beyond the beauty of it all, I was intrigued by how these objects deeply matter to us, emotionally.” After studying in Antwerp, West endeavoured to become a diamond trader but found, as a woman, her entry into the world of stone-dealing was far from straightforward. Indeed, she often had to send a male business partner into meetings to do deals on her behalf. West later channelled her frustration into two separate companies: Yeraua Diamond, an ethical sourcing company she founded in 2008, and her own gemmological lab, IGR London, which grades gemstones for retailers and jewellers. In 2012, she also established her own design studio, creating bold and eclectic pieces inspired by the sculptural work of JAR, Wallace Chan and Suzanne Belperron.

The Diamond Disruptor: Jessica McCormack

Though she is the daughter of an antiques dealer, Jessica McCormack takes a resolutely modern approach to designing jewellery. Born and raised in New Zealand, she moved to London in her twenties to intern at Sotheby’s jewellery department. It was here that she fell in love with the idea of creating her own pieces and, crucially, with the Georgian-era goldsmithing techniques that have informed her work ever since. “I wanted to recreate them, but in designs that made them relevant and wearable for women today,” she says. Her informal, ‘daytime diamonds’ philosophy can be felt throughout her expressive collections, which seamlessly blend heirloom-worthy weightiness and craftsmanship with a playful, fashion-forward approach that has garnered her a loyal fanbase, including Margot Robbie, Zendaya, Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, and Zoë Kravitz. The latter even signed up to be McCormack’s official ambassador and muse in 2024, which coincided with her brand’s expansion into the United States.

Holmes opts for an extra wide-leg jean, bypassing the resurgent skinny, barrel and baggy styles—the wide-leg being the most office-appropriate of the moment. A blue striped shirt adds a touch of colour. Embossed brown leather kitten-heel flip flops—a key shoe trend for the warmer months—add texture. And the absence of a belt, the rolled-up sleeves and the hairband on the wrist all echo the throw-it-on-and-go ease that defines casual cool, while still working for both the weekend and the office.

If Loewe's pre-fall campaign feels like the piece missing from your summer dressing puzzle—with visuals that feature a man facing the sea; a gentle breeze lifting the vertically-striped shirt tied around his waist to expose a tantalising hint of under-cheek—you're not alone. But as well as this reference, there's another one that feels very on-point for summer 2026; the repositioning of stripes as not just the print but the only print when temperatures rise.

Photographed by Talia Chetrit, several of the images (shot with a backdrop of ocean or stacked sun-loungers) feature a preppy deckchair stripe; a scene-stealing pattern that feels very high-summer. Since then, the stripe has dusted itself off, cropping up repeatedly in decidedly chic settings—and reminding us all why it's a classic for a reason.

The Breton, no surprises there, has emerged as the seasonal favourite once again. At the Cannes Film Festival, Anais Demoustier wore a striped rugby T-shirt—comprising navy blue and butter yellow—at the photocall for La Vénus Electrique; a sporty take on the Breton.

Influencer Alexis Foreman has also been championing the Breton, with a limoncello version that gave the piece something of a twist from Matteau. While you can stick to what you know with a navy-and-white Breton, this summer pushes the stripe ever-so-slightly out of its comfort zone, whether that's with a variegated pattern or with a punchier colour palette like Foreman's.

It has been impossible to miss striped jeans and trousers on Instagram, with the trend emerging as one of the easiest ways to introduce colour into your wardrobe with minimal effort. For inspiration on styling bold striped trousers in a way that still feels effortless, look to Maria de la Orden, co-founder of the Barcelona-based La Veste. Her signature Pippi trousers are available in 11 different colour combinations and have become a favourite among the fashion set. Meanwhile, Blair Eadie has long made colourful dressing her calling card. If there's a striped piece worth knowing about, chances are she's already wearing it. Seen here in an off-the-shoulder dress by Staud, she demonstrates another easy way to embrace the trend for summer occasions.

Perhaps that is the secret behind stripes' return for summer 2026. As our lives become increasingly busy, pieces that simplify the getting-dressed process are exactly what we're gravitating towards—and few trends work harder than stripes.

The Breton, Revisited

Striped Dresses

Not as ubiquitous as its floral counterpart, the striped dress still has form during summer. And this year, resortwear brands have backed the print, from Cala de la Cruz, which has actually combined florals and stripes on a graphic mini dress, to Staud, which has given a long-sleeved knit cover-up a bold vertical stripe in shades of turquoise, canary and brown.

Striped Shorts

Loewe's campaign made a (very convincing) case for striped shorts—and there's plenty of versions on shop floors with a similar vibe (pretty yet playful). Lido's elasticated waist and primary-coloured stripes are particularly fun, while Reformation's Bermudas, which are slightly more subtle, are 10/10 chic. (Psst: Even if your striped shorts don't have a paperbag waist like Loewe's, you can still size up, roll up the cuffs so the white pocket linings peek out. Clever, no?)

Striped Trousers

A striped trouser doesn't have to mean boardroom suiting. Having said that, Toteme's reverse pinstripe is particularly novel on a balloon-leg silhouette—don't you think? Elsewhere, Mango's wide-legged, and wide-striped jeans take a different—but no less interesting approach—with the kind of personality that means the rest of your outfit can take the day off.

Striped Totes

Unless you're ready to go all in and mix clashing stripes (it is summer, after all), why not ease into the trend with a bright tote bag paired with your existing summer outfits?

Buying a new luxury watch might not be as simple as you think, especially if you have a sought-after model in mind, such as a specific Rolex or Patek Philippe. Deciding on the best women's watches to choose from is hard enough as there are so many exquisite styles to choose from, but walk into a store to do so, and you might well be faced with a scant offering in the cases, and the reality of long – highly competitive – waiting lists.

To put things in perspective, a watch dealer described to me the sales job he loved as morphing into that of a bad-tempered receptionist: “I just pick up the phone and say no all day long.”

Even watches without eye-watering price tags can be difficult to secure, as the furore surrounding the recent Audemars Piguet x Swatch collaboration demonstrated. Riots outside Swatch stores around the world on launch day, including in London and Birmingham, forced the brand to close its shops.

While you navigate the lengthy waiting lists and search for an easier way to acquire the investment watch you desire, may we suggest going vintage? Not only does this give you access to leading luxury brands and collectible models, but there is also a good chance you'll find a great deal. Here's what you need to know.

Where to buy a pre-owned watch?

The first step is deciding where to buy, and with the market for pre-owned watches booming, there is lots of choice. For those of us who love the in-store experience, most traditional jewellers and watch stores now offer vintage watches alongside new timepieces. This can be a great way to buy from a local store that you trust, and many will offer guarantees or service plans. For example, Pragnell, which has stores in London and Stratford-upon-Avon, offers a two-year guarantee on all its pre-owned watches for peace of mind. “Our team has extensive horological knowledge, and we thoroughly assess each timepiece for authenticity, service, cleaning, and polishing to ensure the highest quality,” notes managing director Charlie Pragnell.

Another option, and one that is great for quick access to a wide variety of watches or for finding specific hard-to-come-by models, is to buy online at a dedicated digital marketplace such as Watchfinder or Chrono24. These sites allow you to sell and buy watches, and have huge databases of listings – Chrono24 claims it is used by 9 million watch lovers every month. eBay is also heavily invested in watches now, with its listings of jewellery and watches increasing 20% in the first quarter of this year, and many of those for serious models from Omega, Cartier, Rolex and Patek Philippe. With eBay, you can also treat it like a piggy bank, selling enough of your old items and keeping the cash banked as you save up for a luxury watch. Or you can use it to sell one watch to help you trade up to a new one.

Should you enjoy the thrill of the bid, auctions are another fantastic source for watches. Auction houses are a mixed bag, however, and you should pick your vendor carefully if you are not a watch expert. A lower-tier auctioneer specialising in house clearances might turn up a bargain, but you could similarly end up with a dud. “Finding someone trustworthy and with a decent reputation is paramount,” advises Tom Heap, senior watch specialist at Christie’s. “Buy the seller, as they say.” Going along to auction sale previews when you can is not just important to assess the quality of what you might bid on, it is also fun and a less pressured shopping environment than traditional retail. “There is no hard sell,” explains Charles Tearle, head of watches at auctioneer Lyon & Turnbull. “If you walk into a retailer, a lot of people feel obliged to take out a credit card and buy something. You cannot do that with an auction [preview]. You can try on as much as you want, and then if you like it you have the opportunity to bid – if it goes too high, that's okay; if you buy it for what you want, great.” Tearle advises that if you are keen on a watch at a preview, ask the auctioneer what they think it will go for on the day, and always request a condition report – that way, you will know for sure whether the watch is in working order or not.

Which vintage watches are the best investment?

The golden rule of vintage watch buying is to first and foremost buy what you love. As Tom Heap at Christie’s says: “It is important to remember, it is an avenue of pleasure”. That being said, if you are buying with an eye on future resale or long-term value, there are some relatively safe bets. At Christie’s, Heap says that collectors often bid for classic Rolex Datejusts or Cartier Tank Louis models as they “do tend to have an established market if you ever decide to sell or trade up”.

At Watchfinder, it is similarly the big brands that are considered safe havens. “If I had to single out one ‘safe’ buy, it would be the Rolex Lady-Datejust,” says UK country manager Ben Staniforth. “Rolex continues to dominate the secondary market in terms of both resale stability and liquidity, and the Datejust has enjoyed decades of uninterrupted desirability. It is classic, versatile, relatively straightforward to service, and consistently easy to resell – all qualities that matter when considering long-term value retention.”

What are the most popular vintage watches right now?

Prices on the secondary market are dictated by demand, so popular watches command higher prices. In its Watchlist Trend Report, eBay lists six of the top-growing watch models in 2026, based on a combination of sales price and category listing growth. The Patek Philippe Nautilus is up 154% on its ranking system, and all the other watches to make the list are by Cartier, with the Demoiselle up 80%, the Tank Américane up 43%, the Tank Française up 39%, the Baignore up 21%, and the Ballon Bleu up 23%. It would seem that the French maison is having a moment on the secondary watch market.

“We have seen an explosion in interest in vintage Cartier,” agrees Tom Heap at Christie’s. “They are so collectible as they’re very varied but always quite familiar and easier to approach for budding vintage collectors.” He also describes a resurgence in what he terms “neo vintage” watches, which date from the 1980s to mid 2000s, driven by younger collectors.

The ‘boyfriend watch’ trend of the 2000s is also back, according to Ben Staniforth at Watchfinder: “We’re seeing more clients gravitate towards pieces like the Rolex Datejust 31 or 36, Oyster Perpetuals, and even Royal Oaks and Nautilus models that traditionally may have been marketed more towards men.” Conversely, he says, there is also a trend for dainty styles – smaller case sizes and vintage styling such as hardstone dials and textured metals.

Watch brands discontinuing models can also cause a surge in popularity. Kirsty Keoghan, eBay’s GM of fashion and luxury in the EU, says that when Rolex called time on its GMT-Master II ‘Pepsi’ and its white gold Submariner ‘Cookie Monster’ (the unofficial nicknames relate to bezel colours) during Swiss watch show Watches and Wonders in April, she instantly saw a spike in searches for them. “Straight away, you suddenly see that [impact in] the secondary market because people are concerned that they're not going to have that watch as part of their collection because it won't be produced anymore,” she says.

How will I know if the watch is authentic?

Buying on the secondary market comes with its risks, which makes choosing a store, marketplace or auction house you trust all the more important – as well as some sort of official authentication guarantee.

“With superfakes on the rise, expert authentication is more important than ever,” says Thomas Mummery, Watchfinder’s head of authentication. “At Watchfinder, each watch undergoes a rigorous 60-step inspection and authentication process by trained and accredited watchmakers, with tens of thousands of watches passing through our experts’ hands each year. Every watch also comes with a 24-month warranty for added reassurance.”

eBay has launched its own watch authentication service in partnership with independent London-based watch repair business Stoll & Co. Watches prices at £1,500 or more are automatically enrolled for this service, at no cost to the buyer or seller. A blue tick on the listing shows that it will go through this process.

Watchmakers check the timepieces against the listing to make sure they are as described, and also check to make sure they are authentic. If the watches pass the test, they are sent on to the buyer along with an NFC chip and QR code that guarantees it passed inspection. Since the launch of this service in 2020, eBay has verified 15 million items across all categories.

Sculptural, fluid gold silhouettes and bolder proportions are reasserting themselves, replacing the delicacy of recent years. Alongside this, colour is returning in a more considered way, with vibrant gemstones set within clean, timeless designs. "We're seeing a real shift towards heritage-inspired fine jewellery, interpreted in a much more modern and wearable way," says Beales. "Customers are increasingly drawn to pieces that feel timeless and emotionally resonant, whether that's vintage-inspired settings, heirloom-style signets or reimagined archival motifs." Earlier this year saw the return of the brooch—falling neatly into the same trend sphere.

"At Liberty, brands such as Cece Jewellery, Foundrae, Lucy Delius and Annoushka are resonating strongly because they balance storytelling and craftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility. There's a growing appreciation for jewellery that feels personal and lasting, particularly as customers become more considered in their purchasing habits."

Enduring Value

"The investment mindset continues to strengthen, shaping how clients approach fine jewellery," says Hannaway, splitting high jewellery clients into two camps: those after everyday pieces and those searching for something truly spectacular.

"There is a clear focus on exceptional stones, timeless design and pieces with lasting relevance. High-quality diamonds and rare coloured gemstones are increasingly valued for both their intrinsic worth and emotional significance, particularly against sustained strength in gold prices. This is driving demand for pieces that can be worn, collected and ultimately passed on, with provenance, craftsmanship and heritage playing a central role in purchase decisions."

Personality Pieces

Solitary diamond studs, tennis bracelets and thin chains may immediately spring to mind when picturing the fine jewellery sphere, but change is afoot, says Beales. "Fine jewellery is becoming far more expressive and personality-led. We're seeing strong interest in sculptural forms, unusual stone combinations and pieces that feel artistic rather than traditionally 'perfect".

"Designers such as Polly Wales, Brooke Gregson and Pascale Monvoisin are driving this shift, creating jewellery that feels conversational, playful and highly individual. That desire for individuality and self-expression is one of the most interesting shifts we're seeing across the category at the moment."

"Jewellery is increasingly being bought and worn for self-expression, rather than for occasion," Hannaway tells me. Gone are the days of saving only for best. "Clients are investing in pieces that elevate daily life, reflecting personal milestones, identity and taste. This is driving a more relaxed approach to styling, where diamonds are worn instinctively and layered with ease.

"Classic pieces such as tennis necklaces and hoops are no longer reserved for special occasions but integrated into everyday wardrobes. Personalisation further reinforces this shift, with clients building collections that evolve over time rather than purchasing in isolation." It's time to take the diamonds out of the safe.

Entry-Level Investments

Fine jewellery may be associated with price points in the thousands, but Beales has noticed a substantial shift. "There's also been a notable rise in what we'd call 'entry-level investment pieces'—fine jewellery that feels accessible enough for everyday wear but still carries craftsmanship and emotional value. Customers are building collections more gradually, often starting with layering pieces, charms or sculptural hoops that feel versatile and personal.

"Brands such as our own in-house Liberty Jewellery, Laura Vann, Otiumberg and Alighieri continue to perform well in this space because they offer jewellery that feels directional yet wearable enough for everyday styling. What's interesting is that luxury customers are still investing, but they're looking for pieces with longevity and flexibility rather than overt occasion dressing," says Beales.

Barcelona-based creative Blanca Miro is one of the most followed and sought-after names in fashion. She has carved out a unique aesthetic defined by colour, unexpected pairings, and a distinctly European approach to dressing. What is one thing you can’t start your morning without?
Matcha or chai latte, always. And getting dressed properly, even if I’m staying home working. I really believe the way you dress can completely change your energy and mood for the day. Fashion has this power to transform even very normal moments.

How do you choose what to wear in the mornings? What’s your go-to work outfit and why?
I always improvise in the morning. I’ve never been someone who prepares a look the night before because I never know how I’m going to wake up feeling or what I’ll be in the mood for. It also depends a lot on the weather.

I usually start with something that more or less makes sense and then I add the “sauce” , the unexpected little detail that changes everything and makes the outfit feel very me. That’s the most important part. Colour is a huge part of my life, so there’s almost always some playful touch or contrast somewhere.

What are your in-office/studio essentials?
A big tote bag full of fabric swatches, notebooks, of course my phone with good music (very important because it completely changes the atmosphere when working creatively), random references, snacks, lip balm or a very natural gloss that I keep applying all day long, and usually more than one pair of sunglasses. As a sunglasses designer I’m constantly changing them depending on the light or the mood.

What is your favourite post-work, pre-bed ritual?
During the week I try to keep some kind of routine, even if discipline doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m responsible, especially now having a family, but there’s always a little chaos around me. Somehow inside the chaos there’s my own order that only I understand. I can also be quite distracted.

Before bed, even if it’s hard sometimes, I like leaving my phone far away charging so I’m not tempted to keep checking it. I feel like the rhythm of the day finally slows down when I do that.

Where did you find inspiration for this collection? What was the design process like?
This collection was very inspired by the idea of an Italian summer on the coast. I was looking at old references, vintage holiday pictures, souvenir pieces, colourful beach culture, all those things that feel nostalgic and joyful at the same time.

I basically designed all the pieces I would personally love to have in my wardrobe. The whole process felt very natural and I had a lot of freedom creatively, which is so important when designing because it allows you to create peacefully and instinctively. I really wanted to transmit my energy through the collection and I think we achieved that.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
The creative freedom. I love transforming memories, moods and inspirations into something tangible that people can wear and make their own.

I also love encouraging people to be a little more daring with fashion. Sometimes people are afraid to play, but once you learn how to have fun with clothes it’s very hard to stop.

What drew you to the brand in the first place? Tell us a bit about your career journey.
I’ve always loved how Maje mixes Parisian femininity with something more relaxed and modern at the same time. With this collaboration, I think I brought a bit of my playful universe and energy into the brand for the summer, while still keeping the elegance and spirit that defines Maje.

My career happened very naturally through sharing my personal style and creative world online, which later evolved into collaborations, creative direction and designing projects.

Which piece from the collection best captures the essence of the partnership, and why?
There are a few pieces that really represent the spirit of the collaboration. The red trousers because they’re bold but still easy to wear. The fish t-shirt inspired by classic souvenir shop tees, but elevated. The hat with the three colours that represent the collection. And also the white linen set with the embroidered bead polka dots, which feels very playful and special while still remaining effortless.

What did you want women to feel when wearing the Maje x Blanca Miró collection?
Confident, comfortable and like the best version of themselves , without feeling overdressed or like they tried too hard.

Biggest career achievement to date?
Being able to build a career while staying true to my personal vision and aesthetic.

Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
To trust your instinct and understand that authenticity is the most valuable thing long term. I think authenticity is becoming rarer and rarer today, which makes it even more important.

What are you currently working on?
Several creative collaborations and expanding different projects connected to fashion and design.

Could you share any future plans or big projects coming up?
Well, besides my second daughter arriving very soon, which is already a huge life project on its own, there are many exciting things coming with my personal brands and also as Blanca Miró. I always like surprising people a little bit, so I prefer not to explain too much beforehand.

Gemma Chan wore a sleeveless column gown that, actually, didn't show any skin courtesy of a slip that created a triangle of exposed skin, adding interest with just a whisper. Alexa Chung packed a mint-green strappy top, which came pleasingly ruched and, again, didn't shout but merely suggested what lay beneath. (Incidentally, Da'Vine Joy Randolph beat them both to it at the premiere of Euphoria, styling out a black lace two-piece—a peplum-waisted top and kick-flare trousers—with the merest hint of sheer.)

It's hard to imagine a better way to style out the heat (at home or in Florence), where you can be covered up but still feel cool and have a hint of skin on show. This is how to wear sheer everywhere—in the office (as long as it's layered over something opaque), out for dinner and on holiday, maximising its potential for elegance while keeping things easy. And, interestingly, this version of sheer—grown-up and subtly attention-grabbing instead of "naked"—arrived on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

Riley Keough's Chanel "suit"—a three-piece look that comprised of a button-down top, a knee-length skirt and a crew-neck jacket, all made of a gossamer-fine material that almost seemed invisible (and certainly must have felt like it)—was a modern take on the sheer trend, and, with an in-built triangle bra and chic boxer shorts, did not rely on revealing but concealing.

For a slightly more practical, everyday approach, choose a solid pair of shorts with a bra top and a loose, sheer shirt. There are varying degrees of translucency to choose from, depending on your preference, because confidence goes hand-in-hand with comfort where sheer is concerned. Alternatively, a layered organza dress is a smarter option for the office. While neutral tones can feel a little too undressed, choosing a bold shade of red and pairing it with minimalist sandals creates a low-lift, high-impact outfit.

It's still not an easy trend to buy into but pick the right pieces—i.e. ones that mean you can still wear a bra underneath (and not just a wireless triangle style)—and you'll almost certainly find they're surprisingly versatile. Blouses or button-downs are one of the best entry points into sheer, particularly styles that are breathable enough to accommodate something underneath like this asymmetric cape from Massimo Dutti, which you could easily slip over a silk dress or camisole to create wafty layers. At the start of every summer season, I always do an inventory of my footwear and keep it to a tight edit. From an everyday pair of white flats to gladiator sandals I can wear both to work and on holiday, despite what my husband would say, I’m actually quite low-maintenance when it comes to warm-weather dressing. Right now, I have the Khaite Liria sandals in my basket and I’m about to hit buy.

They’re the perfect blend of the brand’s pared-back aesthetic and everything I want from an investment pair of sandals that will really go the extra mile. Travelling a lot for work, I’ve tried my fair share of suitcases over the years. And when you’re constantly on the move, it’s the smaller details you really notice—those little things that make packing and transit feel that bit smoother. I recently discovered July, the Australian luggage brand, and met co-founder Athan Didaskalou. It’s the first suitcase with an integrated, trackable TSA lock, CaseSafe™, compatible with both Apple’s Find My network and Google’s Find My Device, so there’s no need for separate AirTags.

Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait

Marking what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday, Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait—created in collaboration with the Marilyn Monroe estate—explores the life, career and lasting cultural influence of one of Hollywood’s most iconic women. The exhibition brings together portraits by artists including Andy Warhol, Pauline Boty and Marlene Dumas, alongside photographs by legendary names such as Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon and Eve Arnold. Personal items including books, scripts and clothing offer a more intimate look at the woman behind the global image.

From early pin-up photographs taken during her Norma Jeane years to the final beach portraits captured in 1962, Monroe remains one of the most photographed women in history. More than six decades on, she is still influencing fashion, beauty and popular culture.

The exhibition will run from June 4th until September 6th 2026. Tickets are available at npg.org.uk

In Case You Missed It...

Fine jewellery has long been associated with dainty designs and delicate details, but Milka Karaağaçlı İnce, founder and creative director of Kismet by Milka, is putting her own personality into the rulebook, with individuality leading the charge. Think diamond-encrusted clover charms, disco hoop earrings and 18-karat gold bracelets in the shape of zippers.

Here, Milka shares what life really looks like behind the scenes, from daily routines and studio essentials to the lessons learned while building the Selfridges-stocked fine jewellery label.

My mornings usually start quietly... My dog Bambu climbs onto my lap while I drink Turkish coffee, go through emails, and slowly wake up before the day gets busy. It’s a simple ritual but it helps me feel grounded.

When it comes to what to wear... I like getting dressed to feel easy and natural. Most mornings are quite busy, so I usually reach for designs that are comfortable but still feel put together—a tailored jacket, a soft knit, good denim. Jewellery is always what finishes the look for me. It changes the whole mood of an outfit.

My design inspiration comes from... Everywhere. Symbols, architecture, emotions, even small everyday moments. Istanbul inspires me a lot, as well. There’s such a special mix of history, craftsmanship, energy and contrast in the city, and that naturally influences the way I design. Usually a collection starts with a feeling or an idea I want to express. From there, I sketch, play with shapes and proportions, and let the process evolve naturally until everything feels balanced.

When I first started Kismet... Jewellery was often seen as something only worn for special occasions and then locked away. I wanted to change that. The idea was to create fine jewellery designs people could wear every day—pieces you could layer, stack, mix and really make part of your own style.

On my desk, you'll find... My sketchbook, because that’s where most ideas start. Turkish coffee is definitely essential too. I also like keeping prototypes or early samples on my desk so I can keep looking at them, adjusting small details, and seeing how the designs evolve. I like the process to stay very hands-on.

My biggest pinch-me moment was... Working with Kate Moss. Seeing someone so iconic connect with the designs felt very special.

Post work, I'll be... Spending time with my kids and taking my dog for a walk. After a busy day, it’s the best way to slow down and disconnect a little.

The biggest leap of faith was.... Leaving my career to build my own brand. Opening our flagship store on New Bond Street was another huge milestone. London is actually where this journey started for me. I used to carry my designs there in a suitcase to show friends and buyers. Opening a store there years later felt very full circle.

Over the years, my business has evolved dramatically... It started as a small design-focused brand and slowly grew into an international company with stores around the world. The scale has changed a lot, but the philosophy has stayed the same: creating bold, expressive designs people can wear every day.

The biggest lesson I've learnt is business is... To trust your instincts, but also stay flexible. Building a brand is a long process, and I think it’s important to evolve while still staying true to your original vision.

Right now, I'm.... Focused on growing internationally while continuing to develop new designs and collections that reflect the spirit of the brand. We’re continuing to grow our presence in London and working on several new launches and collaborations. It feels like a very exciting moment for the brand as it continues to evolve and reach new audiences.

The worst part of a holiday is the airport—from late o'clock packing to squeezing your toiletries into a resealable plastic bag so that everyone at security is privy to your favourite eye cream. It doesn't have to be this way, however. The airport can be part of the fun—within reason—and you also can be one of those people who breeze through departures with a no-muss, no-fuss attitude, their minimal shell tote (Valesque) perched on top of their ridged aluminium carry-on (Rimowa).

This won't happen overnight but, instead, by taking advice from the experts. These frequent fliers know a thing or two about travelling in style, with in-flight beauty routines you can perform at 30,000ft and advice for how to pack light but also pack right.

These are the six rules to live by when it comes to not enduring but acing your next airport journey.

Find Your Favourite Suitcase

Luggage is luggage, right? Not necessarily. From the weight of its shell to its lining, everyone has different specifications when it comes to suitcases. For influencer Michelle Lin, it's Antler, which has light hard shell designs as well as expandable options. "It’s so practical and chic at the same time," Lin says about her trusty cabin bag. Amalie Gassmann's pick is Away. "I have been using them for years! They roll smoothly and, for someone who checks more than one suitcase, they are light and practical." Marie Claire's Fashion Director Lily Russo-Bah recently discovered Australian label July and I'm obsessed. "The Checked Trunk suitcase has a more traditional 80/20 opening, which means one side is deeper and actually fits on a standard luggage stand in a hotel room. I often find myself putting my suitcase on my crisp white bed sheets in order to often it up fully, which is far from ideal or hygienic."

Streamline Your Toiletries

Whether you're packing a cabin-bag only or multiple suitcases, you always need to start with as little weight as possible. Gassmann's tip is to streamline your toiletries; "skincare products add so much weight," she says, adding that her solution is to "pack what is almost done and samples". Pureseoul, the famous home of K-Beauty, actually has a dedicated minis section; the perfect destination for picking up lotions and potions in 50ml bottles. Meanwhile, retailers such as Marks & Spencer offer dedicated summer beauty bags filled with everything from body cream to shampoo, conditioner, suncream and more — perfect for short getaways without having to pack your entire bathroom cabinet.

Pack In Strategic Outfits

Some travellers like conjuring an outfit from their suitcase with spontaneity but, in my experience, it's more expedient by far to pack in outfits, using tonal colours. You don't have to stick religiously to your strategy but it just means you'll naturally trim any fat. "I always think in outfits rather than individual pieces," says Hatt, who tends to lay everything out before packing. "If something doesn’t work in at least two outfits, it’s usually out." This makes so much sense; you don't want to pack a pair of trousers, say, that you know will only get one wear.

Don't Reach Capacity

If you hit your weight limit of 23kg, that might cause you a headache if you buy any souvenirs (even a fridge magnet or novelty shot glass could tip you over the edge). And anyway, utilitising your suitcase without stuffing each side will give you space, physically and perhaps even metaphysically. " I like to give my clothes space to breathe," says Hatt, who also, on the subject of expedient packing, always packs a spare dust bag for laundry.

Dust bags or zip up pouches are similarly great for keeping things organised if you're not into the idea of packing cubes, although don't knock them until you've tried them (Antler's come in sets of four, all of which can fit inside its medium suitcase, as well as six).

Prepare For All Temperatures On Board

Most fliers have their own definition of "the perfect outfit". The only non-negotiable is layers in case of temperature fluctuations. "I find myself wearing a comfy tee and a pair of loose drawstring linen trousers on long flights most of the time, plus a jumper to carry over my shoulders," says Lin. "Walking in the airport always makes me so warm, then being on the flight could be absolutely freezing. I find this outfit combo can easily adapt to any quick change of temperature!" Everyone's layers are different though. "I like to be comfortable but still feel like myself which is usually a black pant, a knit sweater, ballerinas and a scarf, as well as a long coat!" says Gassmann, who also puts some thought into what to wear in order to save as much space as possible in her luggage. "Jackets take so much space," she laments, adding: "I usually wear my heaviest one to the airport and pack an evening blazer that will go with a lot of looks!"

Prepare Your Inflight Essentials

Your full skincare regimen whilst in transit might be overkill, but a few choice products, will save space and are small enough to carry onboard, especially to counter the effects of dehydration (as well as, obviously, drinking water). "Hydration is the focus so a good moisturiser, from The Ordinary, and Vaseline, as my lip balm, are go-tos. I don’t tend to do anything elaborate, just enough to feel a bit more like myself when I land," says Hatt.

Fendi's Mamma Baguette

The Fendi Mamma Baguette first launched in the late ’90s, not long after the original Baguette bag debuted in 1997, and was introduced for Fendi fans needing a slightly roomier version of the cult shoulder bag. Named “Mamma” as a tribute to Adele Casagrande Fendi, the matriarch of the Fendi family, the style returns this summer in a bright crochet finish, roomy enough for summer in the city, or as the perfect carryall day or night if you're heading to the sun. Its a timeless style I'll return to again and again.

Farm Rio

Farm Rio has long been my go-to label for sunshine dresses and occasionwear I'm unlikely to spot on anyone else at a party or wedding. The expanding collection now also includes swimwear and accessories, making it even easier to buy into the brand's joyful prints.

Founded over 27 years ago, the Brazilian label started out in local markets before becoming one of the brands most synonymous with Brazil. A love letter to the cariocas of Rio, its insanely beautiful beaches, and the rich natural landscapes that make Rio de Janeiro one of the best cities in the world, the brand’s vibrant collections are now stocked in some of the world’s biggest retailers and remain a firm fixture in my suitcase.
