Ryan Gosling has been front and centre this month, with the 45-year-old actor returning to screens in Project Hail Mary.

The highly-anticipated science fiction film is an adaptation of the bestselling book by Andy Weir, following science teacher Ryland Grace [Gosling], as he goes on a space mission to save the planet, teaming up with an alien called Rocky in the process.

It was Gosling's family however, that made the most headlines over his press tour. The actor shares two daughters, Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, nine, with partner Eva Mendes. And according to Gosling, he made Project Hail Mary for them.

"I made this for them essentially," Gosling explained in an interview with Access. "As a family, I’d like a movie like this that I’d like to see. I just feel really honoured that I got to make one."

Gosling and Mendes are known to be extremely private about their relationship and family life, rarely speaking about each other or their children in public.

But in a rare exception, Gosling went on to explain that his children played an important role in giving him feedback, describing them as the "only critics" that he cares about.

"My kids have seen multiple cuts," the Crazy, Stupid, Love actor recalled. "They give me multiple notes. They’re basically the only critics I care about, and they are very critical and very honest."

Mendes is also said to play an integral role, with Gosling telling Extra in 2024 that his partner is a major support behind the scenes.

"She is with the girls, and when she works, I stay home with the girls too," Gosling explained. "She's also like my acting coach. She has really become the best acting coach I have ever had. It's endless how she helps me."

This is not the first time that Gosling has spoken about his family's influence on his work. In fact, in 2024 the Barbie actor revealed that he has become more selective about roles since becoming a father, moving away from playing dark, edgy characters for the sake of his children.

"I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” Gosling explained to WSJ Magazine. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us.”

He continued: “The decisions I make, I make them with [Eva Mendes] and we make them with our family in mind first.”

She continued: "It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, 'OK, he’s going to work and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here.' He went and he did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it and he came home."

When she read those quotes back, she felt she needed to explain herself more.

"I just saw these quotes that there was a 'nonverbal agreement,'" Eva told Glamour. "In print, it made me go, Oh, wait, that makes it seem like there was no communication. It didn’t just happen. There was a lot of thought on my end on what I wanted to do with my life.

"So when I said that — casually in a conversation — the context is that after years of me having not only a 20-year career by that point acting, but years of me thinking about it and what I wanted to do...it just came across as too simple and not accurate. It was one of those things like, Oh, bummer; that’s not what I was trying to say."

If you're wondering why an A-lister actor needed defending in the first place, it's because people reacted quite weirdly to Ryan's casting as the principal Ken in last summer's blockbuster. Some felt he was too old for the role, and others didn't love his transformation into the plastic doll, and journalists made these opinions known via a slew of articles at the time.

As such, Eva took to Instagram to share a bunch of screenshots of critical articles after the Oscars noms were announced, writing, "So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious,heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars.

Tempering Ryan's celebration over being nominated is also the uproar over Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star/producer Margot Robbie being "snubbed" in their respective categories.

The Ken actor even issues a statement expressing his disappointment, writing: "No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."

As for Eva and Ryan, who are a typically discreet celeb couple, they've been expressing their support for each other a bit more loudly in recent weeks, and it's been lovely to see.

Another said: "He’s questioning if anyone actually watched the movie," while another quipped: "Ryan Gosling is 100% a girl’s girl."

Meanwhile, Ryan's wife and fellow superstar Eva Mendes posted a reaction gif of him from the awards ceremony on Instagram, captioning it: "I LOVE HIM!!!!"

Awards season is in full swing, and with the 2024 Golden Globes taking place last weekend, and the 2024 Critics' Choice Awards and Emmy awards taking place this week, there is a lot to celebrate.

This weekend, Gosling was honoured with a very prestigious gong, taking home the Kirk Douglas Award for excellence in film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. And as the 43-year-old took to the stage, he paid a very special tribute to his loved ones, role models and idols.

"It's hard to imagine being at a point in my career where I'm standing up here tonight. It's hard to feel deserving of all of this, but I remind myself that the proceeds go to a wonderful cause so it doesn't really matter if I deserve it or not," Gosling announced. "It's just that it's Kirk Douglas. He's one of the first true icons of cinema. He is completely and utterly in the class of his own, and I’m just Ken?"

He continued: "I, for one, have been so lucky. I’ve gotten to go to the moon, be a motorcycle bank robber, a getaway driver, waltz through the stars, be an elementary school teacher - albeit a crack-addicted one - become a replicant from the future, a gangster from the past, a lovelorn stunt man, and most recently, thanks to Greta, a 70-year-old crotchless doll.” 

His most talked-about words however were those about his partner, Eva Mendes, who he met on A Place Beyond The Pines in 2011, and with whom he shares daughters, Esmerelda and Amada.

Us Weekly is reporting that the couple welcomed a baby girl into the world on Friday 12 September. Apparently, 'multiple sources' have confirmed the news.

In July it was reported that Eva, 40, and Ryan, 33, were expecting a baby together, though, being the ultra private couple that they are, they never actually confirmed it.

Back in February, Eva even laughed off pregnancy rumours after she reportedly refused to go through a security scanner at the airport.

Speaking on the Ellen Degeneres show, she said: 'It's so ridiculous. It all started because I didn't want to go through the scanners at the airport. You know those X-ray scanners, which are really creepy? They basically see you naked, right? And not only that, but there's a radiation aspect to it, so I always opt out.'

The stars have been dating since their movie Place Beyond The Pines in 2011.

'It's taking up all my time, but in the best way possible. Everything I see is a possible design. My mind is consumed by it.'

As the ambassador for the new line, Eva by Eva Mendes, the stunning actress will front their next advertising campaign and be heavily involved in the design process of the affordable range, which will feature a mixture of daywear, evening attire and accessories.

'I love anything that winks to yesteryear,' Mendes told WWD. 'You have to find what works for you. In this day and age where everybody has a stylist, I appreciate the kind of woman who steps out of the box. I love feeling like an individual. I want to share all these little tips with women.'

'I have a ton of ideas, but it's a bit early to discuss them,' Ryan Gosling's girlfriend added. 'It's taking up all my time, but in the best way possible. Everything I see is a possible design. My mind is consumed by it.'

'When we asked our customers to name the celebrity they aspired to be, [Eva's] name came up again and again. Based on that, we went out and pursued her. It was a very long courtship,' said Greg Scott, CEO of New York & Company.

'She has amazing red carpet style and also has a very unique style off the red carpet. She has a real sense of self, which will help us in terms of the design aesthetic. When we look at her, she really is confident.'

Eva Mendes has opened up to Marie Claire about new boyfriend Ryan Gosling, calling him 'amazing.'

The stunning actress gushed about working with her beau on their new movie, The Place Beyond the Pines.

'He's your dream co-star,' the 37-year-old Eva Mendes said. 'I have never felt so creatively satisfied on a film. He's amazing.'

But when pressed for more intimate details, a Eva remained decidedly coy.

'Stop, just stop,' she joked. 'I'm not gonna budge. I feel uncomfortable talking about it. It's too personal.'

Eva and Ryan were recently spied taking a romantic break in Thailand, where the Drive actor is shooting his new film, Only God Forgives.

'They walked hand in hand to dinner at a Japanese restaurant' an eyewitness told Life & Style. 'They were very quiet and everyone left them alone. And in person Eva is even more beautiful!'

Sources say Ryan has fallen 'hook, line and sinker' for the his new lady and is 'obsessed' with her.

It was a bumper fashion fest on the red carpet last night, with a slew of our favourite style stars rocking some seriously scene-stealing looks.

Leaving us quite literally spoilt for choice in the best dressed stakes today, let's start with perennial MC favourite - the lovely Diane Kruger.

Tapping winter's love for all things sequins, the ever-gorgeous actress glittered in a dazzling midnight blue Chanel Couture gown with full peplum skirt, as she attended a charity event in New York.

But she had some fierce sartorial competition on the red carpet, in the form of Blake Lively. The Gossip Girl was the picture of elegance in a chic black Chanel Resort maxi dress, teamed with a to-die-for oversize floral corsage necklace.

Across town, and Cameron Diaz was on promotional duty at the premiere of new flick, The Box.

Another starlet that's clearly been doing her trend homework, she worked the season's penchant for bold shoulders in a chic RM by Roland Mouret slate grey cocktail dress. Adding interest to the sexy shift, she wore her locks high in a messy top-knot, and accessorised with strands of yellow gold chains.

Another city, this time LA, and another premiere, The Road, saw Charlize Theron oozing Twenties glamour, in a sparkling silver Christian Dior minidress and Marcel wave 'do. The Oscar winner even got away with ditching the ubiquitous towering heels for some altogether more comfortable bejewelled flats - and still looked oh-so-chic!

Premiere number three, and the sequin trend was back again, this time gracing a glowing Eva Mendes. Utterly eye-catching, the actress stole the show at the premiere of The Bad Lieutenant, in a dazzling multi-colour sequin Chris Benz gown, teamed with platform courts and a black satin clutch.

In Italy for a break with boyfriend George Gargurevich, the Hollywood beauty has stepped out in a string of gorgeous get-ups, representing the perfect capsule suitcase wardrobe.

First up, taking in a little luxury, the actress tested out her sea legs, enjoying a day on Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana's yacht.

Kicking back and relaxing, she kept demure, covering up that much-envied bod in a floaty leopard print kaftan, stacks of silver bangles and, naturally, ubiquitous oversized shades.

Disembarking for a spot of shopping, the actress wandered the streets of Portofino in a stunning white hot shift dress, which she teamed with nude wedges and a tan-trim tote.

After a surprising lack of A-list faces in Milan, the stars finally arrived yesterday, all in the name of Dolce & Gabbana.

Scarlett Johansson, the face of the Italian fashionista's new make-up range, led the pack at the designer's autumn/winter '09 catwalk show, in a demure metallic gown, nipped at the waist for her favoured Fifties screen siren style.

Stepping into the fashion limelight, Frieda Pinto took in the first front row, but looked like a seasoned pro as she posed for the paps in a cream tunic gown.

And it was just Hollywood providing the glamour. Supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova reminded everyone why they still outshine their younger contemporaries, wowing in a black skirt suit, and fitted ruby red gown respectively.

Not content with hosting the starriest show of the week, D&G continued the festivities, holding a party for their nearest and dearest.

With just enough time to change into some slinkier, Johansson upped the ante, showing off her famous curves in a figure hugging animal print gown, and a ruby red pout.

Glittering in a gold sequin mini and cropped jacket, Kate Hudson added to the glamazon line-up, while Naomi Watts oozed sophistication a black tux.

Like a lesson in red carpet dressing, the supers were back as well, with Herzigova rocking a shimmering white sheath and Schiffer slinky in a silver and black stripe shift dress. Elegant, yet supremely sexy, they ensured all eyes were on them.

Meanwhile, letting the side down was Peaches Geldof. Pulling her signature nonchalant gloomy expression, the socialite looked simply scruffy next to the groomed glitterati, with lank locks and mismatched attire. If you're going to try and play with the A-list Peaches, at least buy a hairbrush!

Eva Mendes to appear at Harrods tonight

Eva Mendes fans, get over to Knightsbridge now, as the A-list beauty will be making a personal appearance at Harrods tonight.

In her role as the face of Calvin Klein Underwear, Ms Mendes will be at the London department store between 6pm and 7pm tonight, to meet customers and sign autographs.

Celebrating the launch of Seductive Comfort, a new luxurious line by Calvin Klein underwear, the actress will play host in the lingerie department, where the stunning range will also be on sale.

Marigay McKee, Fashion & Beauty Director at Harrods, spoke of the store's excitement at welcoming the star, 'Fashion customers no longer view lingerie as a 'basic' item and more so than ever before want luxury in their everyday wardrobe.... Fit should be as important as the look, so are really excited to welcome Eva Mendes to Harrods for her only UK appearance.'

Fashion highs and lows at The Women NYC premiere

Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes and their co-stars jetted in to New York last night for the premiere of the highly-anticipated The Women premiere.

The all-female cast, including screen legend Annette Bening, Debra Messing and Jada Pinkett Smith, star together in the smart comedy about a woman's battle against her hubby's mistress.

Meg Ryan takes centre stage and has her feathers ruffled by mistress Eva Mendes, looking hotter than ever on the big screen.

While Mendes sexes it up on-screen, her appearance on the red carpet last night was quite the opposite as she channelled a grannie-style shapeless gold-sequinned dress that stopped mid-calf – the least flattering length of all.

And it wasn't just the Calvin Klein model who missed out in the style stakes. Her co-star Meg Ryan played it safe in what can only be described as a nod to the nuns. She dressed head-to-toe in a black, long-sleeved dressed, buttoned up to the neck with not an ounce of flesh on display.

Meanwhile Matrix actress Jada Pinkett Smith opted for an oversized asymmetric ruffle top and black pencil skirt. We're all for the ruffles this season, but downsizing is best.

Perhaps it was a case of sisters sticking together and not wishing to outdo one another, but we can't help thinking the girls turn out at the LA premiere was altogether more fashion forward…

Banned in America, you can watch Eva Mendes' risqué TV ad right here

A new advertising campaign featuring Eva Mendes for Calvin Klein has been banned, after being deemed too risqué for TV.

The steamy ad for new fragrance Secret Obsession shows an all-nude Mendes, who controversially reveals a little too much flesh for the US censors.

Directed by celebrated photographer Steven Meisel, the clip will now only be available online, as American networks have refused to accept the advertisement, even in a censored version.

Tom Murry, president and chief operating officer of Calvin Klein, commented to WWD, 'This development is not entirely a surprise for the US market.

He added, 'We believe the commercial is exceptional and hits the mark for Secret Obsession. We will reach our consumers in the US primarily through the website, the print campaign and at point of sale. We are anticipating a very successful global launch.'

This is not the first time that the American fashion house has caused controversy with its provocative advertising campaigns.

In the Eighties, images featuring a 15-year-old Brooke Shields with the tagline 'Nothing comes between me and my Calvins,' caused an outcry. Then in 1995, the brand was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, over a series of images for Calvin Klein jeans, which showed young models in a number of suggestive poses.

Calvin Klein is keeping actress Eva Mendes busy this month, with not one, but two new ad campaigns launching.

The actress will front the label's new underwear line, Seductive Comfort by Calvin Klein, and is the face of its new scent, Secret Obsession.

The first advertisements, shot by Steven Meisel have already been unveiled, and show Mendes in a number of suitably seductive poses in the new lingerie.

Tom Murry, president and chief operating officer of Calvin Klein, revealed that the campaign was viewed as a new direction for the brand, commenting, 'This is a departure from more slender body types that have typically been used in Calvin Klein Underwear ads. But this is not so much about a trend of being more curvaceous. This product is made for a curvaceous woman.'

Mendes certainly reveals those enviable curves, balancing upside down from a sofa in one racy shot.

Eva Mendes will not be dropped as the new face of Calvin Klein following her stint in rehab, and has had her deal extended to include both fragrance and lingerie.

The Hitch star was announced as the new CK star in February, but was rumoured to have been swiftly dropped after entering rehab merely weeks later for suspected prescription drug addiction.

It has now been confirmed that Mendes will not only be the face of the new Calvin Klein fragrance, but will also front a global advertising campaign for their lingerie.

When asked if Mendes' stay at the Cirque Lodge had effected her relationship with the company, Tom Murry, president and chief operating officer of Calvin Klein Inc. told WWD, 'No, it has not. We were already in one (fragrance) campaign when it (rehab) occurred and it did not affect our decision-making for the underwear campaign.'

Mendes added in a statement, 'The company has such an incredible creative legacy. I'm honored to be associated with such an iconic, world-class brand like Calvin Klein.'

Calvin Klein has a long history of celebrity spokespeople, including Mark Wahlberg, Hilary Swank and most recently Kate Bosworth. Mendes follows in the foot steps of Kate Moss, who starred in both perfume, underwear and jeans advertisements for Calvin Klein during her time as a spokesperson for the brand.

Eva Mendes does fairytale glam for the 2008 Campari calendar

EVA MENDES HAS been unveiled as the face of the prestigious 2008 Campari calendar. Taking over from last year's Campari girl, Salma Hayek, the Hitch actress stars in all twelve months of the calendar, in a series of images based on fairy tales. As a result, we get Eva in a red cape with wolf at her side as Little Red Riding Hood, reclining on a bed as Sleeping Beauty and as the Queen of Hearts for Alice and Wonderland.

The photographs, taken by iconic Italian photographer Marino Parisotto, were all shot on a beach in Rosignano, Leghorn, Italy. Mendes wears a series of stunning gowns, including designs from Roberto Cavalli, Max Chaol, Elie Saab and Alberta Ferretti.

Speaking yesterday at the Campari press conference, Ms Mendes described the project as 'such a great experience.' Wearing a red Alberta Ferretti dress and Sergio Rossi heels, the actress revealed her beauty secrets for such a shoot and commented, 'I work out, but then I eat what I want. I drink a lot of water, especially lemon with water.'

Campari CEO Bob Kunze-Concewitz commented on calendar, 'Eva has been the perfect choice, she is an international star with great flair and has interpreted the Campari Tales with passion and sublime grace.'
