Lately, thanks to Getty (and my unrivalled procrastination), I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1990s wardrobe, which, it turns out, is a goldmine of sartorial inspiration. I suspect most people already knew this, but I’d been too distracted by her quirky wellness empire to notice that, back in the ’90s and early noughties, Gwyneth had one of the most enviable closets in Hollywood.

There are the cosy, if slightly Matrix-coded (complimentary!), Brad Pitt years, the minimalist Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy-esque two-pieces, and now, I’ve discovered, the Tom Ford for Gucci era.

In 1999, while riding high on The Talented Mr. Ripley fame, Gwyneth attended Tommy Hilfiger’s ‘Rock Style’ exhibit at The Met. The night yielded some truly iconic fashion moments—deserving of their own deep dives (which they will get!)—but for now, I’m focused on what she wore: an electric-blue python-print gown from Tom Ford’s Spring 2000 collection for Gucci. Modelled on the runway by Frankie Rayder, the dress was customised especially for Gwyneth.

Fast forward 26 years, and Emily Ratajkowski has revived the look with her own spin on the serpentine design. Naturally—EmRata is understandably a fan of a mini hem length—the dress was spliced above the thigh.

She’s known for her love of Tom Ford’s Gucci era (aren’t we all!), so this latest revival feels less like yet another Y2K run-over and more like a tribute.

Emily Ratajkowski isn't letting society's narrow expectations for women define how she dresses and acts as a mum. In a new interview with ELLE UK, the supermodel opened up about what she's worn to bring her son Sylvester Apollo Bear to school in the past — and it's as far from the new Bridget Jones vibe as it gets.

"It’s a little bit of a walk to my son’s school now, so I can’t wear heeled shoes," EmRata said. "But, when I was in the city, we lived two blocks from his preschool, and I would often just leave for work from there. At that point I was hosting my filmed podcast, so I would be in an outfit."

Asked what that contrast was like between her and the other parents, the My Body author said: "Oh, I was definitely dressed up compared to them. I think that’s actually one of the ways I really enjoy being subversive with motherhood. There’s so much around what a mom should look like."

She continued: "I know what kind of mom I am, and I only deeply care about my son’s reaction to that. Anybody else who has opinions about me as a mother because of the way I dress — it’s just so inconsequential."

Speaking to how she's developed this devil-may-care attitude, Emily added: "I don’t know, maybe it’s getting older. Maybe it’s motherhood, but it just is what it is." As to whether she cares what other people think of her? "No, I don’t think I do," she said. We love that for her.

The I Feel Pretty actress shares Sylvester — nickname "Sly" — with her ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. The two tied the knot in 2018 and ended their marriage in 2022. Emily Ratajkowski is known for using fashion to make political statements

Former President Donald Trump has been found guilty on all 34 charges of falsifying business records. How did model Emily Ratajkowski react? She wore a black T-shirt from Platform; the artist-driven brand by famous gallerist David Zwirner.

The tee is emblazoned with a depiction of porn actress and director Stormy Daniels by renowned cartoonist R. Crumb. Ahead of the 2016 election, Daniels was allegedly paid $130,000 (£104,000) in hush money from Trump’s former lawyer in exchange for her silence about having sex with the now-disgraced politician. Yesterday, Trump was found guilty of buying Daniels’ silence, but he still denies having had any sexual contact with Daniels.

The limited-edition T-shirt—one of the site’s most popular items—retails for $95 (£75), and 10% of all sales go to Safe Horizon, a New York organisation that supports victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

When I found out I would be sitting down with Emily Ratajkowsi for just 10 minutes to celebrate her naming as the face of the new Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Tiger Lily fragrance, I had feelings of both excitement and fear. Excitement because Emily Ratajkowski isn't just one of my beauty heroes, she's also a woman I really respect. Her beauty is intimidating, but her brain even more so—and that is where the fear came from. As an interviewer, you don't want to be told that you only have a 10-minute slot, particularly when it's for an interview with someone as brilliant and multi-faceted as Emily Ratajkowski.

She is someone who has found herself in a position of fame, influence and great stature as a result of her beauty—but modelling was never supposed to make her famous. She has spoken in previous interviews of how she never intended to become famous, but instead used modelling as a way to make money in her early life. But since Robin Thicke launched that Blurred Lines video back in 2013, her beauty became the talk of everyone all over the world, catapulting her into worldwide fame. But so far from just another model/actress, Emily has become a voice for so many women across the globe through her social activism—speaking out on sexism, advocating for women's rights and campaigning for reproductive rights in the US. Her book, My Body, has become one of my most cherished.

With all that said, 10 minutes is just not enough time to pick the brains of someone so brilliant. But, as a beauty editor, I knew my role in this game—I was invited for this conversation to speak about beauty. And while I knew I could sit there, as I usually do, and ask Emily for her top beauty tips, that approach didn't feel right this time. I wanted to get to the bottom of how her beauty choices have shaped her into being the person she is today—strong, level-headed, a force.

And what better way to really get into someone's beauty state of mind than through talking fragrance? As one of the most personal beauty products out there, it taps into our emotions and state of mind. Even when describing what Flowerbomb Tiger Lily smells like to her, Emily gave me an insight into how she uses beauty—as a form of feel-good escapism. "I grew up on a beach in Southern California, and I always feel best when I’m tanned and I have a little salt water in my hair. There’s nothing better than that feeling you get at the end of the day, and I feel like Tiger Lily transports you to that feeling. It has that tropical, solar feeling to it, and it brings me [back] to that place, even in the thick of winter in New York," she revealed.

"But besides fragrance, what other beauty moments have shaped your life?" I asked. And here is what she had to say...

My earliest beauty memory is...

"Getting my eyebrows over-plucked on set. I was modelling and I must have been 12 or 13, and it was a make-up artist assistant who was probably 19 or 20. I had really, really thick eyebrows and they decided that they needed to shape them—she didn’t know what she was doing. I was pretty horrified by that.

"I also have a memory of being at an aunt’s house for Christmas and a second cousin shaving part of my eyebrow. So I definitely learned early on that we don’t mess with the eyebrows, and I’m glad that I learned that lesson."

A beauty moment I wish you could relive is...

"For me, I really love doing make-up, but hair is quite difficult—I don’t have that skillset. I think there have been a couple of hair moments for me on carpets where I’ve been like: ‘Damn, if I could just have this hair...’ 

"I had a Met [Gala] where we did really big, curly, down-my-back hair, and I just remember being like ‘I don’t want to take this out—if this was my hair I’d be a different person.’"

A beauty moment I wish I hadn't lived was...

"There’s a make-up look that was for a very specific random dinner in like 2015 that haunts me to this day. I remember getting in the car to go to the event and thinking: 'This is wrong, I can tell I don’t look like myself,' but the pictures were insane. I had a really severe dark brow and I think a purpleish lip, but otherwise basically bare-faced. It was pretty horrific. It came to mind straight away, and it was like 10 years ago..."

The first beauty product I ever bought was...

"Probably Maybelline Great Lash—or some sort of drugstore mascara."

My go-to beauty shops are...

"There’s a pharmacy in New York in NoHo, that I can’t remember the name of, that has all of the French products. I like that for if I’m trying to find something I got [previously] in Paris. And then, honestly, just Sephora—Sephora is great."

My biggest beauty icon is...

"I don’t feel like there’s one—there’s so many different women I find inspiring. The ones I like the most are ones who found their signature look and lived and died by it. Like Sofia Loren or Twiggy or Brigette Bardot or Bianca Jagger. Rihanna has a look—even if she plays with colour we know what she’s giving. I really jump around."

The person who has taught me the most about beauty is...

"My make-up artist Hung Vanngo, who I have worked with for a really long time. He broke the rulebook on certain things and thinks outside of the box. He really pays attention to each face that he does. I learned things about my particular face through him. I’d always do highlighter in the inner corner of my eyes and he was like: 'No, no, no—we put the dark all the way around and bring the shadow through.' And that does work for my face, it’s true. I feel like working with him over the years I’ve really learned a lot about my own face."

Beauty to me is...

"I think it’s changed in the sense that beauty used to feel really intimidating. I thought there were girls and women who do it really well, and I wasn’t sure I was one of them. I think I also always felt compelled or interested in trends, and as I’ve gotten older and figured out what really works for me, I see beauty as a way of helping me feel like myself. And that is, I think, the best relationship you can have with it. 

"I also think the ritual of doing my make-up is just such a nice time for me—it’s like meditating, practically. Then I feel like I’m ready for whatever the day is going to throw at me, and that’s just what you want from beauty."

Emily Ratajkowski is being criticised for a photoshoot she did for a French magazine, with one photo in particular being labelled as "fatphobic" and "tone deaf."

Em Rata shared a series of pictures from the M Magazine shoot on Instagram, including one in which she's wearing a pair of jeans that are several sizes too large for her, and holding them out to her side to show how small she is in comparison to the trousers. Followers were shocked by the inclusion and didn't mince their words in the comment section.

"What a strange second photo. And you wrote a book about body image? Mm!" said writer and body image advocate Stephanie Yeboah.

For context, Emily wrote a memoir titled My Body, which is a feminist exploration of how her body and women's bodies in general are treated in our society.

"What in the fatphobic hell is that second picture?" asked another person.

"The fact a whole team of people worked on this and thought this was cool is so f***ed up," said someone else.

"Designers won’t make plus sizes unless it’s for a photo opp where a thin person can be quirky," another commented.

Model and body image activist Tess Holliday also chimed in with a wry joke, writing: "I’ve been looking for those jeans in the second photo if you could just please return them that would cool. Tysm."

At time of writing, Emily has yet to respond to the backlash, something which hasn't escaped commenters' attention. Plus-size model Letticia Munniz wrote: "How hard is it to hear that you are hurting people and doing something wrong and just erase it and apologise?"

The photoshoot was part of a luxury special for M Magazine, the supplement to French newspaper Le Monde. Emily was photographed for it alongside Anja Rubik, Saskia de Brauw, Sora Choi, Nyajuok Gatdet and Angelina Kendall.

During an interview with Spanish Vogue, she explained that she didn't 'expect this to happen' and reflected on the impact of being in the spotlight.

In an episode of Going Mental with Eileen Kelly, she said she had been dating someone for a month and it was going well. 

She shared: "I just don’t like a lot of guys. I don’t go on dates unless I don’t think they’re going to be like that [give me the ick]. Yeah, I can get the ick.

"I just started dating someone that I kind of like, like, so that feels different. But yes, if you had talked to me four weeks ago, I would’ve been absolutely like, 'Oh my god.'

"I look for good-hearted people, people who are thoughtful, people with good politics. I like people who are funny, similar interests is important for sure."

In a twist of events nobody saw coming, it seems that Harry Styles and Emily Ratajkowski may be dating. 

Harry, 29, and Emily, 31, were spotted looking very cosy in a video clip that has now gone viral - and they've since gone on to follow each other on Instagram. 

The most 2023 way for celebrities to confirm that they're dating? Possibly. 

In footage obtained by Mail Online, Harry and Emily can be seen passionately kissing next to a car in Tokyo. The pair were reportedly seen dancing and laughing, as well as sharing several kisses on the streets of Japanese capital.

Harry is currently in the city for his ongoing Love On Tour gigs, with the singer set to perform in the UK in May. 

Just last month, a source told the Mirror that Harry had met someone new following his split from Olivia Wilde in November, but that he was hoping to keep it out of the spotlight during the early days.

Posting a series of photos on his account, Eric shared snaps of the pair in her apartment, both posing, smiling, and rather naked.

Emily Ratajkowski has opened up about her life and juggling motherhood with her career in the most honest way, and we admire her even more for it. 

The 31-year-old model and actor gave birth to her son Sylvester Apollo Bear back in March 2021, and though she has split from her former partner Sebastian Bear-McClard, Emily continues to be the best parent to her child, while pursuing her career. 

However, Emily - also known as EmRata - has admitted it is not as easy as it seems and she has "no balance" as she juggles "so many hats".

Speaking to Refinery29, she said: "I have no balance. I have so many hats and I like wearing them. Between being a single mum, modelling full time, having a podcast, also wanting to continue to write, and running a read-to-wear business [iNAMORATA], it's insane. I don't have balance."

Though her schedule is hectic, the Gone Girl star is happiest now than she was in her twenties. 

The entrepreneur has revealed she feared getting older, but has realised she is still young and living her best life at 31, but when she was younger she felt she had to rush ahead to hit milestones.  We can relate. 

She said: "I got married when I was 27. That was just four years ago, but it feels like a really long time. I think I felt like I was getting older. I think I felt older at 27 than I do at 31. Something was freaking me out.

"I had this realisation that I was getting closer to 30 and wasn't going to be young forever. But something about 31, I'm like, I'm so young. I turned to my friend the other day and was like, 'Did we ever think 30 was old?' She was like, 'B***h, we thought 30 was so old.' But you have so much time. 

"Yes, life goes fast, but ultimately 27 is so young and it gets better. It got so much better for me. I think you'll know yourself more. Of course, as young women, we feel the pressure of being young forever. But in your 30s, you look the same, but you've figured out who the hell you are."

One factor that has helped Emily feel fulfilled is not only her son, but her writing. 

Emily released her memoir My Body in 2021, which proved to be a huge hit with readers, but also benefited her too.

She explained: "When I started writing, that helped. I wasn't fulfilled in my career and in my life. It was a really hard time for me. I had made all this money. I was famous. I was 'successful' in all of these ways that people tell you should make you happy. Realising that I wasn't and I wasn't fulfilled, I had to figure out what would make me happy."

Late last year, the rumour mill went into overdrive as fans speculated that Emily Ratajkowski and Pete Davidson were dating.

However, she may have just quashed those rumours following a recent interview where she claims she attracts 'the worst men' while discussing being single. 

A source told US Weekly in November that the pair had been “talking for a couple of months now,” and were still in the “very early stages. Both really like each other."

The news came just months after the SNL live actor broke off his year-long relationship with Kim Kardashian, and Emily and Pete were spotted together at a number of events, including a basketball game where they sat near Ben Stiller.

However, the model and author has now said that she attracts the "worst men" during one of her podcast episodes. 

Emily, who divorced film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard in 2022 after four years of marriage, also said that men "think they want a strong woman," but don't actually "know how to handle it". 

So, what did she exactly say? On an episode of her High Low podcast, where the she has welcomed stars including Julia Fox and discussed topics such as sex, dating and her life in the spotlight, she said: "That's what I hate with dating… men in particular. 

"They're like, 'OK, yes, you're special. You've done it.' And they love it and love it, and then slowly they get emasculated and don't know what to do with those feelings, and then they resent you." 

She went on to say: "They start to tear you down, and then you're back to square one. And it's so fucked up and unfair, because I feel like a lot of men who truly think they want a strong woman actually don't know how to handle it and… what it means for their own identity."

Emily, who shares one year old son Sylvester Apollo Bears with her ex-husband, continued: "I said to my girlfriend, I feel like I attract the worst men... Because I want a confident man. I don't want an overly confident man who has something to prove and is trying to prove it through me. That is not what I want."

Emily Ratajkowksi has one very hectic schedule, as she balances her career with motherhood, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

The 30-year-old model gave birth to her first and husband Sebastian Bear-McClard's child Sylvester in March 2021.

Despite having a busy schedule, which has seen her release her own book My Body shortly after giving birth, and more recently collaborate with Superga on the brand's Spring/Summer 2022 campaign, she prefers a "quiet weekend" with her family.

Speaking about her plans for this year, the Gone Girl actor said: "As much as I love to travel, there is nothing better than a quiet weekend with my son at home!

"I’m just so excited to spend time with my son, my husband and my friends as the weather warms up and New York continues to open up safely. I’m hoping to enjoy spring in my Superga's."

Emily has hinted her fashion style has changed since becoming a mum, and she relies on comfortable outfits, especially footwear, which is why her partnership with Superga has come at the perfect time.

Speaking about her collaboration with the longstanding footwear brand, Emily said: "I love Superga and their timeless approach to sneakers. I’ve been wearing the brand for years so this collaboration felt completely natural to me.

She explained: "My personal style is always changing. Right now, as a new mom, I choose comfort, which is why the Superga sneaker is the perfect fit for me.

"My style is influenced by countless women! Sometimes it comes from a woman I see walking on the street in New York City and other times it comes from an old picture I’ll see online of Julia Roberts or Halle Berry in the 90s."

Emily Ratajkowski has been the subject of many headlines in recent weeks, but the latest is sure to shock – and excite many of her fans. The British-born model has been cast in the upcoming Gone Girl movie, she confirmed on Instagram yesterday.

The star shared a link to a news story on her Instagram feed with the caption: 'So happy to announce my casting in David Fincher's Gone Girl opposite Ben Affleck.'

The role is set to be very different from Emily's in Blurred Lines, which saw her rise to fame as she danced naked alongside Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I to the controversial hit single. The video has now racked up 174 million views on YouTube since its debut in March, which casting directors are no doubt hoping will translate into box office sales when the movie hits cinemas in 2015.

Gone Girl will be Emily Ratajkowski's acting debut, and will see her star alongside Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, who'll play husband and wife Amy and Nick Dunne. Emily will play Andie, a college student who has an affair with Nick. Reese Witherspoon is producing the movie alongside Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon.
