With a heatwave settling over much of the UK, what did you learn from our last hot spell? Not to wear knee-high boots (I don't know how the girlies do it)? Switching your baseball cap for a sweat-wicking bandana scarf? Both are excellent takeaways but my area of interest has shifted to denim. It's such a staple for many of us that it feels wrong to exclude the fabric as soon as temperatures soar. But how can you sport it and not feel dizzyingly hot?

The A-list has come up with several answers. Firstly, Zoey Deutch's baggy jeans in an elegant indigo shade. I know, I know, wearing jeans that might pool at your ankles, adding extra inches that need to be dragged around, sounds like the opposite of heatwave-approved but, trust us (or Deutch), it's actually a more cooling way to wear jeans than anything more tailored, especially if you follow her advice about what to pair them with (more on that later). And P.S. Dark denim will hide any unwanted sweat marks and, ultimately, look far chicer than anything mid-blue or bleached.

Secondly, Bermuda shorts (or jorts), which have been trending for the past few summers and, surely, need no introduction. Again, they're slightly looser on the leg, allowing for crucial air circulation, but still have a tailored cut that's suitable for work, especially if you opt for a dark-blue denim.

Lastly, Rihanna's favourite: capri pants, denim edition. These are slimline but can also be paired with barely-there tops for balance (think, whisper-thin silks or cowl-neck halters) and ankle-tie heels for a look that's perfect for heatwave date nights (fiery, indeed!).

Baggy Jeans

Baggy jeans in a heatwave?! An understandable question/exclamation but here's the thing—you're always going to be hot when it's a heatwave, and if you still want to wear denim, you should know that a baggier cut might have more fabric but with crucial wiggle room on the leg, thanks to a wide-leg cut, it's going to feel a lot more cooling than a straight or skinny fit. Of course, it matters what you wear it with. Enter Zoey Deutch, whose ribbed tank and heeled flip-flops felt like a no-muss, no-fuss take paired with indigo turn-up jeans.

Bermuda Shorts

Instead of short-shorts, Bermudas have the edge this summer, especially pairs with a gentle flare or indigo wash like Ella Hunt's. Find a smart Bermuda, like the below pleat-front pair by COS, and you can most definitely wear them to work, tucking in a white shirt or knitted tank for a polished but positively cool outfit forecast.

Denim Capri Pants

Rihanna used to wear capris in the early '00s—and, 20 years later, nothing's changed except the fact that, now, she pairs them with the ultimate combination: double dark denim. It's a super-cool spin on a trouser suit—don't you think?—and, while you might not be able to wear the top half during a heatwave, it's a duo that's perfect for sultry evenings.

Though the warmer months may call for breezy silhouettes such as spring dresses and linen trousers, one thing’s for sure: denim remains the cornerstone of any well-curated wardrobe. For those not keen to part ways with this staple even as temperatures rise, I’m pleased to confirm that this summer there are a whole host of new colour ways, lighter fabrics and prints to try out.

This season designers have us feeling nostalgic about denim. Familiar silhouettes, like low-cut flares, make a return with a modern and more wearable approach, while classic blues give way to pastel shades and prints (something we haven't see for some time).

After speaking to some of the industry's leading denim experts, I've rounded up the top five denim trends to have on your radar for the months ahead. Whether you're looking to invest or are simply on the lookout for some new season inspiration using pieces you might already have in your wardrobe.

The 5 Biggest Denim Trends For Spring/Summer 2026

Soft Shades

If you want to know what the latest style of jeans to buy are, then Agolde is a good place to start. The brand's classic stonewash shades have been replaced for summer with soft pastels and warm khaki tones.

"We're seeing a shift into maximalist styling, with coloured denim, particularly in soft yellow tones, bringing a more expressive, elevated feel to everyday dressing," says Creative Director at Agolde, Karen Phelps.

The key to styling colourful hues is to keep the rest of the look neutral. Contrasting shades such as burgundy, white and black lend saccharine tones a cooler edge. In the sun, crisp white shirts and silk camisoles add a more grown-up finish.

Nostalgic denim

They say trends have a 20 year rotation which means the return of nostalgic styles such as skinny jeans, bootcut legs and low-slung flares we loved in the noughties are right on time.

“A SS26 trend I’ve noticed is elevated classic silhouettes such as bootcut and flare jeans with modern details. We love blending this sense of nostalgia with a fresh perspective," says Creative Director and Co-Founder of Paige, Paige Adams-Geller.

Similarly to the pastel shades were seeing come through for summer, nostalgic silhouettes make quite a statement on their own and require minimal styling. Balance flared jeans with a cropped jacket or tucked-in blouse, style skinny jeans with a camisole and oversized blazer. And as usual, my expert advice is to pair them with a pointed-toe, whatever the feel, to elongate the leg and keep the silhouette sharp.

Double Denim

Whilst not entirely new for Spring/Summer 2026, double denim—or the “Canadian tuxedo,” as it’s known—continues to gain traction for yet another season. Darker washes look particularly polished when styled with brown suede or crisp white footwear, while classic stonewash is perfect for a Western-inspired shirt-and-jeans combination.

"There’s something effortlessly polished about a coordinated look, and we wanted to offer a contemporary take on head-to-toe dressing in our Spring ‘26 collection. My favourite double denim moment is the Fiana Top and Stevie Bootcut Jean in Tonal Ecru," says Adams-Geller.

Investing in a set helps take the guesswork out of coordinating separates. Matching denim sets are readily available across both the high street and from your favourite contemporary labels and designers.

Printed denim

Keeping in line with nostalgic denim and Noughties silhouettes, this season also sees the return of printed denim. Commonly seen in the early 2010s by brands like Paige and True Religion, printed jeans arrived in a range of bright, bold, expressive iterations. From snake prints to paisley and florals, these were once unavoidable.

Now, as we start incorporating bolder silhouettes and colours, it feels only natural to embrace pattern as well. True to its roots, but modernised, as noted by Adams-Geller, patterned denim now comes in softer hues and modern cuts.

Using your printed jeans as the anchor for your look, style them with complementary tones and contrasting textures. My favourite way to incorporate printed denim into my wardrobe is by reversing the 'jeans and a cute top' formula and opting for statement jeans rather than a statement top. It's an easy styling switch that delivers maximum impact with minimal effort, perfect for those days when you want the outfit to do the work for you.

Relaxed Shorts

Denim and a heatwave may not sound like the most appealing wardrobe choice. However, a longer denim short is surprisingly versatile, comfortable and not to mention practical, whether pounding the pavements in the heat or heading to the beach.

"Proportion plays a key role this season, says Creative Director at Citizens of Humanity, Marianne McDonald. "Longer shorts and the return of the Capri pant shift the silhouette, offering a more thoughtful, elevated approach to summer dressing that feels intentional without being overworked."

The beauty of this trend is that there’s a length and shape to suit everyone. Whether you prefer a board-short length, a shorter cut, or A-line silhouettes that feel more appropriate for smarter settings, there’s an option for every style. Simply add a crisp T-shirt, a shell jacket and a pair of white shoes for an easy spring look, or opt for a billowy blouse and strappy kitten heels for the office.

With a long list of celebrity fans and an even longer roll call of viral buys, I'm fairly certain Reformation needs no introduction. While many still turn to the brand for its delicate floral event dresses, cult-adored wide-leg tailored trousers, or even their classic cashmere jumpers, rather than denim. It’s a category that has been quickly gaining momentum for the American brand since 2017.

Despite the competition in a very crowded marketplace, it is becoming a favourite amongst fashion insiders, especially when you consider the breadth of its range, from timeless, classic cuts such as straight-leg and flares to more directional, trend-led silhouettes. Plus, the brand also holds inclusive length options (short, standard, long—hallelujah!) and let's not forget its sustainability credentials. Many styles in their offering are crafted from regeneratively grown and recycled cotton, and you'll find this across different cuts, colour ways and finishes.

After spotting Kendall Jenner in a perfect pair of black Val Reformation jeans (£178 and still available), a trip to the store was at the forefront of my mind. So, of course, I decided to put them to the test. How do they fit? Are they worth the investment? Which styles suit me best? There was only one way to find out. So I went to Reformation’s Covent Garden store in London and tried on some of the brand’s best-selling denim silhouettes.

For context, I normally take a size 28 and standing at 5’4, often reach for low-waisted, baggier silhouettes in regular leg lengths as I am indeed a big fan of a leg puddle. It is important to note that I was not able to get a hold of different leg lengths in the store due to stock availability.

With that in mind, here are my five editor-approved pairs truly worth considering.

Tried & Tested: Best Reformation Jeans

Bex Wide Leg Jeans

What I thought when testing? To know me is to know you'll see me in baggy jeans nine times out of ten. So I often find ways to modify jeans to fit my preferred look; a common tip I use is simply to size up.

For this silhouette, I opted for a size 29 rather than my usual 28 to achieve a slightly baggier mid-rise length. Part of Reformation's super stretch denim range, these felt buttery soft and comfortable enough for everyday wear.

How would I style them? When it comes to baggier silhouettes, I often focus on balancing proportions, usually opting for more figure-hugging pieces on top. With these light-wash jeans, I am mentally styling them with a cropped jacket and white T-shirt paired with loafers for a casual look.

Charlee Low Rise Straight Leg

What I thought when testing? I've been eyeing this new season denim colourway ever since Reformation released its latest CBK-inspired collection. Chic, minimalist, and versatile, I would easily recommend this pair of jeans for anyone looking for a slightly lighter hue that is less conventional than your classic white or light blue.

As for the silhouette, I tried on my usual size 28 but found them slightly too tight in the thighs, so I recommend sizing up for a slightly baggier, more comfortable fit. Additionally, given my 5'4 frame, I would reach for the brand's 'short' leg length in this style as I feel like the 'standard' leg length puddled a bit too much on me.

How would I style them? As noted by our denim experts, earth-toned denim is set to be a key trend for 2026, which is why I'm banking on this style as a stand-out option. For the office, I'm styling these jeans with a chunky buckle belt, paired with a crisp light-blue shirt and a white vest layered under it to balance the colour palette.

Greta Stretch Low Rise Wide Leg Jeans

What I thought when testing? To say that these jeans intimidated me at first glance would be an understatement, but I can confidently say I am beyond pleased I decided to give them a chance.

I often shy away from zipper closures and prefer jeans with tack buttons, as I feel they are more secure and will protect me from any wardrobe mishaps. However, this zipper closure was, by far, the most impressive I've experienced on denim ever. Especially given that I tried on a size 27, which felt slightly too tight but closed perfectly and stayed in place.

How would I style them? With a Western-inspired feel, enhanced by a dark wash, these jeans are perfect for both smart-casual events and summer festivals. With festival season underway, I'm taking inspiration from celebrities' recent, more subdued styling approach and opting for ankle-length cowboy boots and a fringe jacket.

Cary Low Rise Slouchy in Pinstripe Lake

What I thought when testing? You can always count on Reformation to introduce modern yet interesting colourways, and this iteration of its infamous Cary silhouette is no different.

With over 20 colourways, I was immediately drawn to this pinstriped option, which was a surprise, as I often opt for light or dark-wash denim and seldom choose printed denim. Upon trying them on, they felt like a classic pair of wide-leg jeans that I could easily see myself styling over and over again.

Opting for a size 28, I felt like these fit more high-waisted, so if you're looking for a low-waisted fit, size up. I also felt like these jeans were also longer than the rest, so I would also reach for a 'short' leg length on this style.

How would I style them? I would lean towards a more neutral approach to make sure the jeans remain as the standout piece, and style alongside a tailored white linen shirt and flip flops for a Scandi-inspired summer look.

Val 90s Mid Rise Straight-Leg

What I thought when testing? The pair that started it all, I can now understand why Kendall Jenner loves these jeans so much. I often struggle to find 90's-style jeans that fit my waist without leaving a gap at the back, so when I do, I make sure to snap them up quickly. These were exactly that.

Similar to other Reformation styles, the brand's Val jeans come in over 10 different colourways, and I'm already considering a second pair in its dark olive wash. They fit comfortably, true to size, and hugged my waist perfectly while providing a relaxed feel.

How would I style them? As far as straight-leg jeans are concerned, the possibilities are endless. From blazers to blouses and shell jackets, I personally love styling them layered under trench coats, paired with block-heel flats for a French-girl-inspired look.

Here, she shares what life really looks like behind the scenes of her nine-to-five—from morning rituals and office essentials to the lessons she’s learned while building a business that does things differently.

I can't start my day without... ‘The Pages’—I have started doing The Artist's Way [a twelve-week programme designed to increase creativity], and the pages are the ritual that gives me a positive start to the day. And my morning Cacao; sadly, I can’t drink caffeine anymore, so I was encouraged to try this by reiki master Vickie Biggs, and it gives me energy for the day ahead.

In an ideal world, I plan my outfits the night before... And in the perfect world, I would plan them a week in advance. But the reality is that I start every morning with a pair of jeans, and pull an outfit together that makes me feel elegant as well as being practical in five minutes. Luckily jeans are the one item that makes that possible. My current obsession is The Roan.

My office essentials are... My laptop, Smythson notebook, Anatōme diffuser, Aesop hand balm, Aesop facial hydrator, and Master & Dynamic headphones.

My favourite pre-bed ritual is... Using my new facial cleansing balm by Rhug Estate. It was recommended to me by my ‘skinspiration’ guru Andrea Pfeffer of Salon C. Stellar. I really look forward to the double cleanse ritual. Then, I resist playing solitaire on my phone (it’s become an issue!) and read for 30 minutes to unwind. Currently, I'm reading Butter by Asako Yuzuki.

As our constant theme at E.L.V. Denim is our circular design processes, I am always working on new ideas... Inspiration can come at random times, but it really comes from the fabric within the garment that is no longer wanted. For example, the jeans that can’t be reworked into new jeans—what do we do with those? Solution: we extract the largest section to create the Willow dress, the smaller sections are ‘clicked out’ to become the Gaby skirt, the smallest pieces are crocheted into our Crochet Bag, and the tiniest scraps become denim paper and form our Writing Note Set. Our designs create beautiful solutions for every garment.

My proudest career achievement to date is... Launching at London Fashion Week in February, as the first ever brand that is 100% upcycled at scale. Scale is the important word here, as E.L.V. Denim is not the first upcycled brand, but we are the first to scale without compromise, and without using any virgin fibres or cutting from a roll of fabric.

The most important lesson I've learned in business is... If someone says no, they probably don’t know the answer, or they may well have a vested interest in saying no. If you are innovating, you are bound to upset a few apple carts.

The methods that I have used for upcycling at scale are completely unique... I am creating a revolution within design manufacturing. However, it’s really important to look forward and refine to grow and evolve, and having the right team is essential, as we all must believe in the process and not look at traditional ways for solutions. My team are essential in the evolution of the business, and I truly believe that each one found me, rather than me looking for them. When the right person comes along, you find space for them.

Barrel-Leg Mid-Rise Jeans

What I thought when testing? Starting strong with one of the brand's most popular styles, these barrel-leg jeans are a serious game-changer if you've been on the hunt for a comfortable, chic, and, most importantly, inexpensive option.

I personally opted for the brand's 'short' leg length, as I often find that regular barrel-leg jeans puddle on my 5'4 frame. Though I do love that look, I appreciate getting a full barrel-leg jean effect rather than the hybrid barrel-baggy I'm used to.

For those ordering online, I would recommend sticking to your regular size for a perfect mid-rise fit. I'm a size 10, and I found that this size fits comfortably.

Wide-Leg Ankle Grazing Jeans

What I thought when testing? Earth-toned denim was one of Spring/Summer 2026's biggest breakout denim trends predicted to take over this year. And as someone who was heavily reliant on cargo trousers during my late teens, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pleased. These jeans perfectly incorporate the hue while retaining a polished high-waisted silhouette that can be easily styled for any occasion.

For this pair, I also stuck with my normal size and its 'regular' leg length for a slightly longer fit. However, for petite women wanting an ankle grazing look, I'd recommend opting for the 'short' leg length.

High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans

What I thought when testing? I don't say this lightly: these are some of the best jeans I've ever tried. Made from cotton, they felt buttery soft and super flattering.

I often favour baggier silhouettes as they feel less restrictive for everyday wear. However, I do think these are often not the most polished for the office or evening events. The solution? These high-rise wide-leg hybrids hold the comfort of a baggy silhouette while retaining the polish of a more tailored style.

Supersoft Skinny Jeans

What I thought when testing? Time and time again, you'll hear me emphasise how much I love baggy jeans and loose denim silhouettes, so trying on a pair of jeans after seven years of swearing them off was definitely an experience.

Fortunately, it was a pair from M&S's own Supersoft range. From memory, skinny jeans have always been a rigid challenge to slip into comfortably. However, these are made from 88% cotton for a genuinely super soft fit.

Will I be calling myself a skinny jeans convert? Not yet, but when the day comes, these are the first pair I'll be purchasing.

Mom High-Waist Ankle Grazer

What I thought when testing? Offering some 80s nostalgia, mom jeans are a timeless silhouette that is effortlessly cool. As someone who regularly uses black jeans as a more elegant approach to denim, I found this pair ideal for any evening event. Simply add a structured blazer, ankle boots, and a going-out top. For these specific jeans, I stuck to my usual size and 'regular' leg length.

Boyfriend Mid Rise

What I thought when testing? Similar to mom jeans, boyfriend jeans offer a slightly baggy silhouette that isn't too exaggerated. Designed to have a borrowed-from-the-boys silhouette, they're comfortable and loose. With that in mind, this pair features turn-up detailing at the ends that balances out the casual nature of the style.

I personally found them very sleek and versatile, plus extra soft being made from 100% cotton.

Supersoft Straight-Leg Jeans

What I thought when testing? From the moment I saw this pair of jeans, I was certain I wouldn't like them. Similar to skinny jeans, straight-leg jeans often seem too restrictive for everyday wear and are more often a pair I keep reserved for days when I will only be wearing jeans for a couple of hours.

Nonetheless, as was the case with some of the other pairs tested, I was pleasantly surprised. This silhouette is also part of M&S's Supersoft range, so they came smooth and, to my surprise, comfortable. I really enjoyed styling them with my ankle-length cowboy boots, a pair which is often hidden by my baggy or wide-leg jeans.

For this style, I would recommend sizing up for a roomier fit.

Flared High-Rise Jeans

What I thought when testing? I'm a big advocate for dark blue denim partly because I find it ultra chic but mainly because I find it effortless to style against statement pieces. This particular flared style follows the popular silhouette without being too exaggerated. It features a subtle flare from the knee down.

Although the original pair I tried on isn't available to purchase, I found a similar alternative that features a similar shape and contrasting cross-stitching.

Palazzo Wide-Leg Jeans

What I thought when testing? Breezy, ultra-wide, and perfect for summer, these jeans instantly transported me to a hot, summery vineyard far away from the rainy streets of London. With their billowing leg shape, they felt ideal to pair with a crisp white T-shirt and heeled sandals during the summer.

The original pair I tested is not available online; however, the pair below features the same palazzo shape plus darting details for a flattering silhouette. For petite women, I definitely recommend opting for the 'short' leg shape.

Does M&S stock maternity denim?

I visited London's Marble Arch flagship store on this occasion, but it did not stock maternity denim on the shop floor. That said, other M&S branches do stock maternity styles available to try on, but availability can vary. Our recommendation is to contact a store ahead of time to ensure they have your preferred size and style.

Ask any fashionable woman for her go-to pair of jeans when she wants to look smart, and I can guarantee she’ll point you in the direction of a rich, dark-blue was. Sleeker than lighter washes and softer than black denim, dark-blue denim has often been overlooked since the rise of stonewash, ’90s-inspired straight leg jeans.

Similar to flocked denim, it offers a polished, more considered finish that lends itself to smarter everyday dressing (office-approved) and transitions seamlessly into the evening. Regardless of what you may have heard, flared jeans are a very versatile cut and surprisingly easy to style. Mimicking the streamlined look of skinny jeans with the addition of a stylish baggy flare from the knee onwards, the silhouette creates a polished aesthetic—particularly when paired with structured pieces.

Make like Anouk Yve and opt for a tucked-in blouse styled with a blazer for a simple yet elegant office look. For a more casual approach, consider tucking a graphic T-shirt or a cropped cashmere jumper into the waistband for an easy everyday ensemble.

As for footwear, I personally like to style my flared jeans with heeled flats or ankle boots to give me a bit of lift—but if puddling hemlines aren't a concern for you, then style with ballet flats or trainers for a more nostalgic, cool-girl look.

It’s the combination that most likely defined your first clubbing outfits—and, thanks to Emily Blunt, the old “jeans and a nice top” formula has never looked better.

The actor proved the equation still packs a punch at the Toronto Film Festival, where she appeared on stage with co-star Dwayne Johnson. Not so much a new contender as a familiar face, baggy jeans continue to top the list of Autumn/Winter 2025 denim trends, having made an appearance on the runway at Khaite, Coach, Zimmermann, and Versace, to name but a few.

However, as the experts point out, this classic denim style has taken on a more polished aesthetic for the new season. Maybe it’s my age, but I was under the impression that BLACKPINK’s style was best described as ‘high-gloss pop’ and very Gen-Z. So why is it, then, that I—a Millennial—find myself dreamily scrolling through Rosé’s entire wardrobe?

2025 seems to be in competition to bring back as many controversial fashion trends as possible, and if the latest denim trend to take hold is anything to go by, I'd say it's winning.

Thankfully, I have to admit, this is one item I’m genuinely pleased to see making a comeback, as unlike some of the less wearable trends that have somehow returned to our wardrobes (butterfly tops and circle belts, I’m looking at you), the revival of the jort, or jean short, is actually a welcome addition to my wardrobe.
