The success of fashion month hinges on the shock of the new, whether that's trends or names-to-know. But while the clothes might shift from season to season, with different references, silhouettes, colour palettes and moods, there's a habit that's harder to change: casting. Karoline Vitto, one of the most exciting talents at London Fashion Week, put it best in her press release with its deadpan opening question: "'Where did all the curve models go?,' the headlines asked. Nowhere. The weight of body diversity should not rest on a handful of designers. But with Karoline Vitto and her contemporaries taking a step back over the past couple seasons for one reason or another, it felt like curve model casting had all but frozen over." Hers was a show that drew on silhouettes from the '90s and 'early '00s, "minus the heroin chic body ideals," cleverly adapting toxic standards of the past into something that did not demonise but celebrated, with a teardrop cut-out placed over the hip bone in one instance that gave its gown exquisite oomph.

Vitto might not be among the majority but she's also not alone. Because for AW26, collections for which have so far been shown in Copenhagen, New York and now London, there were tentative signs of more interesting (read: inclusive) casting. As well as being a sustainability champion, Copenhagen Fashion Week has become an example of how brands can think differently (or differently to what has come before) when it comes to who models their clothes.

At Skall Studio, the process has always been more than a specific "look". Rather, its sibling founders, Julie and Marie Skall, seek out, "women with personality, women who stand for something and who feel aligned with our values", they tell Marie Claire, emphasising that it's a different approach to what you might think of as traditional street casting. "Often, there is already a relationship. They might be part of our extended community, or someone who embodies the quiet confidence and integrity we value. When you cast based on personality and values, diversity happens very organically. You automatically see different ages, body types and expressions of femininity," they say.

These sentiments chime with the ethos at OpéraSPORT, another brand showing as part of CPHFW. "When people see a range of body types, ages, and backgrounds on the runway, it creates connection. It makes the clothes feel real and attainable, not distant or exclusive," says co-founder Awa Malina Stelter. "For us, diversity is not a statement for attention; it’s a reflection of the community we design for. We want people to see themselves, or someone they recognise, in our shows."

That word—"community"—is important. Because if a brand's customer base is broad, shouldn't that richness be reflected on the catwalk? At Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon asked members of the art world, from painters to gallery-founders to sculptors to photographers, to walk in the show, giving the clothes—assertive, easy and artistic—even more life. As the press release detailed: "For Fall 2026, Carolina Herrera draws inspiration from a community of women, past and present, whose work and influence have shaped the landscape of art. Whether artists or muses, patrons, gallerists, curators or collectors, they lead lives of bold self-expression, talent, and style."

This is an establishment brand—one of the on-schedule designers that is worn by some of the most powerful women in America—making a refreshing casting decision, one that was neither a box-ticking exercise nor a novelty but infused the collection itself. Why this makes a difference is because the people who continue to push the so-called envelope when it comes to casting are independents, smaller brands who essentially have to carry the can for the entire industry. "We have less to lose and more to say," says Hillary Taymour, founder and creative director of Collina Strada. "Big houses carry history, shareholder expectations, and legacy fantasies built on exclusivity. That doesn’t mean they can’t change, but change is slower when the image is already monetised. Independent brands are often born from lived experience, so nuance isn’t a strategy, it’s a necessity."

Having said that, Chanel's Haute Couture show opened with a grey-haired model—Stephanie Cavalli, who also appeared on the brand's catwalk for Metier's d'art. This was a different kind of Couture, softer, lighter, modern and highly want-able, and its artistic director's choice of model perhaps reflected that women who can afford these clothes—translucent twin-sets that are whisper-thin, delicate but just as gorgeous as ball gowns—are probably older than 25.

For some brands, an inclusive approach to casting has always been part of their DNA, not a gimmick or a way to gain traction. "From our very first show, we decided to do things differently," says Marta Marques, co-founder of Marques' Almeida. "We didn’t really agree with how agency models were being treated, the focus on body shapes, heights, and looks, with no real attention to them as people." That's the key, not diversity for diversity's sake but something deeper. "We hope people notice not just differences in age, race, size, or style, but also in posture or personality—some girls are shy, some bold—but they all feel comfortable, supported, and part of a unit that lifts each other up. That’s the real message: that even in small communities, people can support one another and create something meaningful," says Marques.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is the gift that keeps on giving. More than a full week after coming back from my first-ever trip to the Scandi style capital, I'm still taking inspiration from the city's crowd of cool girls—and their clever winter styling tricks in particular.

My personal favourite? Adding a faux-fur collar, snood, scarf or stole to a simple winter coat to transform it from functional to fashion-forward in seconds. Low-lift yet instantly impactful, it's the kind of smart styling trick that feels effortless and intentional at the same time—like you’ve thought about your outfit, but without actually trying too hard. Not to mention the fact it adds a much-needed extra layer of warmth to your ensemble, too.

Draped over a tailored wool coat, looped around the collar of a trench, worn atop a leather jacket or even slung casually across a shoulder, a faux-fur scarf adds texture, elegance and drama to a look in one fell swoop—and has the power to give even your oldest, most trusty, tired outerwear a new lease of fashion life.

I’ve been a devoted UGG wearer ever since my teens, when the Southern California–born sheepskin boots first burst onto the international scene and established themselves as a Noughties style staple. For most, they were a trend that happily faded away alongside the era's velour tracksuits, denim minis, and skinny jeans—at best relegated to guilty-pleasure status, strictly worn at home or post-gym. But not for me. Against my better judgement, I never quite gave them up, and have resolutely continued to wear them, out and proud, reactions be damned, ever since.

Some time ago, however, I began to notice a shift. Where once my choice of footwear might draw raised eyebrows, confusion, amusement, or even sneers, the post-pandemic prioritisation of comfort made UGGs—along with trainers, ballet flats, et al—acceptable again, and not just in off-duty contexts either. But, it turns out, that was only the beginning. In the years since, UGG has undergone a full-blown transformation, elevating the humble shoe from simply permissible to genuinely cool—and it’s all thanks to a handful of seriously clever collaborations.

Much of that transformation can be traced back to where—and with whom—UGG has chosen to align itself. In the past few years alone, the brand has released campaigns fronted by stars such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Cher, Central Cee, Elsa Hosk, Post Malone, NFL player Stefon Diggs, Seth Rogen and Rina Sawayama, positioning itself firmly at the intersection of modern culture and embedding itself in all the varied aesthetics that come with it.

“Celebrity endorsement has played a huge role,” explains stylist Corina Gaffey. “Seeing people like Bella Hadid wearing UGGs in a non-kitsch way has given them so much style currency. It’s made them feel current again, rather than nostalgic.”

This shift has also encouraged more experimental styling. “It’s all about contrast,” continues Gaffey. “Mixing textures, restraint, and wearing them in unexpected ways. It should look intentional rather than ironic—not that ‘I got caught outside in my UGGs’ vibe.” Her preferred approach? Slouchy denim, tailored coats, leather jackets and tonal palettes—proof that the boots now operate comfortably within a more sophisticated wardrobe language.

The brand's renewed focus on releasing experimental, trend-led designs has certainly helped too, with clogs, mules, ballerinas and hybrid styles helping to broaden the brand's appeal and audience. Associations with a single, sun-soaked image of Malibu starlets in leggings and chestnut booties are, thankfully, no more.

Most significant of all, however, has been UGG’s slow, studied entry into the highest echelons of the fashion world. First, it dipped its toe into luxury by partnering with Jimmy Choo on an exclusive line in 2009, before going the edgier route with a Jeremy Scott collab in 2017—the results of which still fetch hundreds at resale, with the signature flame-painted boots worn by Timothée Chalamet just the other day. It's a strategy the brand has only continued to refine and ramp up in the years since, with collaboration collections with Telfar, Molly Goddard, Sacai, Palace and The Elder Statesman also reaching rapid sell-out status.

And while not official partnerships, it’s also telling that high-end labels like Miu Miu, Gucci, Fendi and Dior have released their own logo-topped takes on the classic UGG boot over the years—serving only to further bolster the original silhouette’s new-found fashion credibility.

Given the runways are by far fashion's most powerful validation system, it makes sense that UGG would use this ultra-exclusive milieu to help reshape its reputation, too. In recent seasons, UGGs have featured in buzzy Fashion Week shows including Y/Project, Collina Strada, Feng Chen Wang, KNWLS, Chopova Lowena, Tolu Coker and Talia Byre in various creative iterations.

And most recently, UGG teamed up with up-and-coming Danish designer Anne Sofie Madsen to launch its newest silhouettes as part of her AW26 Copenhagen Fashion Week show—namely the Otzo clog, Quill ballet trainer, GoldenGlow embossed sandal and Minimel sneaker, albeit reworked to become "part of the same structural and tactile language as the collection," as the designer put it. Customised with metal studs, textile bows, spray paint and leather straps, the shoes acted as a canvas for craftsmanship, paired with everything from avant-garde gowns to tailored two-pieces—firmly cementing their place within the realm of cutting-edge fashion.

The fact that most of the exclusive UGG designs featured on the runways never actually go into production is almost by-the-by. “The value of these collaborations lies in cultural capital,” explains Gaffey. “Even when they don’t go into production, they reshape how you think about the brand. They create demand, visibility, relevance and credibility—especially when they work with cooler, more indie designers.”

"Sales don’t just measure visibility," she continues. "With UGG constantly collaborating, it keeps it from being just that nostalgic boot from the 2000s, guarantees coverage in editorials and on catwalks, and creates conversation, which in turn creates demand. It’s constantly reinventing, offering fresh alternatives, which is so important in fashion."

And for me? It feels like the ultimate vindication for being so stubborn after all.

I've just come back from my first ever Copenhagen Fashion Week, and I'm officially convinced that no one does winter style quite like the city's crowd of cool girls. Having endured many a sub-zero temperature in their time, they're veritable pros at putting together outfits that are as warm and practical as they are effortlessly chic—and they know that often, it's the smallest details that make the biggest impact.

From statement coats and high-neck details to the clever use of knitted accessories, I spotted a few of the same nifty styling tricks cropping up again and again in the street style on display between shows. So, after days of people-watching, I've narrowed it down to four standout ideas that are refreshingly easy to recreate, and well worth copying as Britain faces its own batch of Baltic weather.

The One-and-Done Coat

Sure, a coat is a necessary evil when you're facing freezing temperatures, but the Scandis know it can double up as a statement-making piece in itself, too. In fact, if chosen well, it can be the whole outfit—giving you free reign to layer all manner of unsightly thermals beneath. Brightly coloured Mongolian shearling coats were a street style favourite for obvious reasons, alongside animal-print, boldly patterned, oversize faux-fur and sculptural styles.

Knitted Accessories

In Copenhagen, knitted accessories aren't simply a means to a cosy end—they provide an opportunity to add an extra layer of interest to a winter look. Enter: colour-pop scarves, patterned gloves, contrast tabards over coats, and snoods, bonnets, collars, bandanas and balaclavas aplenty. Knitted triangle scarves were especially ubiquitous, whether worn draped over the shoulders, knotted at the neck, or tied around the head.

The Funnel-Neck Detail

Funnel-neck jackets and coats have been quietly trending for a good few months now, and Copenhagen's fashion folk have wholeheartedly embraced them—but not just for the style points. Beyond looking incredibly chic, funnel silhouettes effectively shield the neck from icy gusts of wind, which makes them genuinely practical. They look particularly cool when styled with hair tucked in, too.

Pillbox Hats

Everyone knows that a significant amount of heat escapes from the head, so in order to battle the coldest climates, a hat is non-negotiable. Copenhagen's most stylish women, however, are well-versed in turning necessity into a fashion moment—and this season, they all chose to do so by way of a sculpted wool pillbox-style hat. I genuinely lost count of how many I spotted during my time in the city, so I'm certain this is a micro-trend worth taking note of (and adopting ASAP).

If you're plugged into "fashion", you know the core four capitals are New York, London, Milan and Paris. There are several other cities, however, that have become equally influential, agenda-setting and, just to slip into industry speak for one moment, iconic—and one of them is Copenhagen.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and, as the first of its two annual showcases kicks off next week on 27 January, the capital is expecting a record number of attendees. And quite right too. Over the past two decades, Denmark's fashion industry has increased its total revenue by 24%, according to Danmarks Statistik, making it the country's third biggest export commodity. But as well as being economically vital, helping to place the city even more squarely on the fashion map since 2006, Copenhagen Fashion Week is, above all, a creative force to be reckoned with.

It's an open secret that everyone loves Copenhagen, preferring its slightly less hectic schedule where you can bike from show to show, not to mention an emphasis on truly excellent canapés. (When I last went to CPHFW, my photo dump contained not one but two plates of whipped butter, one of which was the size of a Baked Alaska.)

Its street-style scene is also, arguably, not just the most convivial—featuring saturated colours and "more is more" accessorising—but the most inspiring. As Copenhagen is positioned just a few weeks ahead of New York, it often sets the agenda for the core four, not a follower but a leader. Some of its influencers, in fact, were almost the first out of the gates, so to speak, including Pernille Teisbaek, who has 1.4 million followers and has been featured on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia.

Many of its brands now have a global presence, cultivating not just a cultish devotion among fans (#gannigirls) but enough confidence in oversees markets to warrant a proliferation of bricks-and-mortar shops outside Denmark.

This AW26 season, highlights include its stalwart contemporary brands—OpéraSPORT, Holzweiler, Baum und Pferdgarten, Rave Review and Skall Studio—but also new-gen talents that are developing their own vocabulary as part of CPHFW (Bonnetje, Paolina Russo, Sson and Stem). With an emphasis on sustainability—CPHFW operates within a Sustainability Requirements Framework, with a benchmark set for "Minimum Standards" which have to be complied with in order to be considered for the official schedule—an inclusive approach to casting that, frankly, you don't see enough of in other capitals and, finally, a sense of playfulness that proves that fashion isn't po-faced but fun, Copenhagen is the one to watch now more than ever.

While in New York, you’ll see influencers and fashion insiders stepping out in looks that feel pared back and polished, London street stylers tend to take on the city's more grungy aesthetic. In Paris and Milan, it’s softer details and statement designs that dominate, respectively. And in Copenhagen? Well, that’s where the real fun happens as guests in attendance experiment with the best Scandi brands, creating looks that channel the city's artistic, playful nature.

Clever layering is key to any stylish Scandinavian wardrobe—think dresses worn over jeans and trousers, or jumpers slung over shoulders. Copenhagen Fashion Week Street Style: How To Style Stripes

1. A Statement Skirt

First up, we have Jennifer Amanda’s striped skirt and bomber jacket combo, which brings together a few different aesthetics to create one cohesive (and undeniably chic) look. While her striped skirt has a provincial feel, thanks to its neutral tones and cotton fabrication, she’s given it a tougher edge by topping it with a worn leather jacket. And the accessories? Polished ballet flats and a quilted bag. This is a look that feels both refined yet effortless in equal measure.

2. Crochet Cool

If you’re looking for ideas on how to get extra wear out of your summer dresses, the style set at Copenhagen Fashion Week always provide ample inspiration. Make like German-based fashion influencer, Evi Wave, and layer a striped dress over a simple T-shirt and trousers for a cool-girl-approved take on transitional dressing.

3. Stripes on Stripes

Proof that there’s no such thing as too many stripes, this guest takes the trend up a few notches by pairing a stripe top, stripe skirt and zebra print stripe accessories to create a chic summer look. If you choose to take this more maximalist approach to the trend, think about your colour palette: similar tones will create coordination even if you’re prints don’t match.

4. Pack A Polo

Striped polo tops and rugby shirts have been trending for a few seasons now; however, they’re still holding ground in the wardrobes of the Copenhagen Fashion Week street stylers. For an easy everyday look, simply pair your oversize polo with a cotton maxi skirt and loafers. Extra style points if you opt for an interesting colour combination like this guest's red and powder pink pairing.

5. Twee Tailoring

Lastly, we have another stripe on stripe look; however, this guest has taken a much more polished approach to the trend. Channelling corporate-core with a playful Scandinavian-inspired twist, her statement shirt and pinstripe Bermuda shorts feel sleek and sophisticated while the ruffle detailing adds a touch of whimsy.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) and Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) have joined forces to accelerate the industry's sustainability actions across the Nordic and British fashion markets.

The BFC will roll out the Sustainability Requirements framework developed by CPHFW, kicking off with the BFC NEWGEN initiative in 2025, where the Minimum Standards will be embedded into the existing mandatory criteria for designer admission. Following an onboarding and piloting period, the full implementation will come into effect fully by January 2026.

The Sustainability Requirements were introduced by Copenhagen Fashion Week in January 2020. Since then, they have been updated to reflect industry developments as well as changes in the EU policy landscape. Brands who wish to be part of the official show and presentation schedule must comply with the Minimum Standards — these cover design, material choices and working conditions.

Since its launch, the Norwegian Fashion Hub, Oslo Runway and Berlin Fashion Week executed by the Fashion Council Germany have embarked on the implementation of the Sustainability Requirements framework. London Fashion Week will be the first of the ‘big four’ fashion weeks to adopt such requirements.

Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council said: "We are thrilled to align with the Copenhagen Fashion Week Sustainability Requirements across BFC NEWGEN, this builds on our existing Minimum Standards and reaffirms our commitment to driving positive change across the global fashion industry. This partnership is a significant step in ensuring that sustainability becomes integral to the future of fashion. Together, we are creating a framework that empowers emerging designer fashion businesses to lead the way and contribute tangibly to a more sustainable and responsible industry."

Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week said: "We are delighted to join forces with the British Fashion Council to further expand the reach of our Sustainability Requirements. This partnership not only fosters much-needed industry alignment but also underscores the unique potential of fashion weeks and councils to drive positive change within the industry. With the British Fashion Council, as an influential player in the global fashion landscape, we see a lot of potential to further amplify the impact of our collective commitment to sustainability."

The partnership contributes to the BFC’s ongoing work through its Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF). The IPF was launched in 2020 as a think tank to address the fashion industry’s environmental impact and aims to guide the industry toward sustainable practices, promoting climate action while serving as a platform for research, collaboration and education to accelerate positive change.

CPHFW autumn/winter 2025 will take place 27-31 January. London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2025 will take place 18-22 February. Laura Weir, the BFC’s new CEO, will take over from Caroline Rush on 28th April.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is always a highlight in the fashion calendar; it's where the most exciting Scandinavian fashion brands showcase their latest creations. That, and the street style is some of the best. This Spring/Summer 2025 season was no exception.

Designers reacted to the unrelentingly bleak world news with cautious optimism, staging music-filled, largely al fresco shows with a diverse cast of characters, making use of old and recycled materials to bring their visions to life. At more than one show I found myself smiling and dancing in my seat.

From Zalando Visionary Award winner Sinéad O'Dwyer's mould-breaking curve fashion to Martin Asbjørn's quietly confident power tailoring at REMAIN, here is everything you need to know.

Sinéad O'Dwyer

Sinéad O'Dwyer prioritises inclusivity in her collections, so it's heartening to see the London-based, Irish designer receive not only the support of Copenhagen Fashion Week, but also win the prestigious Zalando Visionary Award.

O'Dwyer's Spring/Summer '25 offering saw the designer further play with her signature bondage techniques and rib-knit fabrics, continuing to champion curve fashion in ways that feel truly sincere. I particularly loved the second-skin denim and all the audibly jingly charms, from a lightning bolt belt to the ornamental suspender belt clips.

'When you try on clothing and it doesn’t fit or you don’t feel comfortable in yourself, it’s not you that’s wrong – it’s the clothing that wasn’t made for you and was never made for you," O'Dwyer noted at the collection re-see, the following morning.

REMAIN Birger Christensen

REMAIN's Danish-born Creative Director Martin Asbjørn knows a thing or two about precise tailoring, and the brand's latest offering is further proof. Combining influences from the '80s and '90s, the collection featured beautifully executed power tailoring in soft greys and blues, with rouleau buttons and nipped waists and touches of transparency here and there. I grabbed five minutes with Asbjørn to delve deeper.

1. What was on your moodboard this season?

I always start my collections from a place of intuition and investigation. The mood for this collection is set through the seemingly different fashion eras of the ‘80s and ‘90s, where I found inspiration in their shared connection of the power to shape and expose the female body. In the ‘80s it was through extreme colours and oversized tailoring, next to the decade’s obsession with fitness culture. Whereas in the ‘90s, women left behind the eccentricity and moved towards a more minimal and sleek way of dressing, highlighting a more sculptured silhouette.

2. Who is your muse?

There is no one muse or model for this collection; I find inspiration from many different women. This collection is reflective of how we see the REMAIN woman, she is a contemporary woman on-the-go, a woman who seeks to dress in quality garments, valuing subtle yet statement items, contrasting and dancing around each other to form a cohesive wardrobe.

3. How would you describe the collection?

This collection features a series of contrasts, that work seamlessly together to form a coherent selection. We explore the idea of what is means to be a heroine in today’s world – how power dressing translates into the contemporary woman’s wardrobe by looking at ‘superhero’ silhouettes and modernising them into everyday, wearable garments.

4. Tailoring is central to your work - how does that find its way into the collection, this season?

This season we have played with different formulations of tailoring, both in suiting silhouettes and through using traditional tailoring fabrics in subversive ways. We have taken the minimal and polished silhouettes of the ‘90s and pairing them with the masculine and exaggerated tailoring of the ‘80s. We feature snatched waists, tailored shoulders and elongated shapes, and challenge classical ideas through using sheer and shiny fabrics.

5. Your work always feels both modern and timeless – how do you achieve this balance?

One of the core principles of REMAIN is the longevity and timelessness of the garments. Whilst each collection finds a new tone and seasonality, I believe there should be a red thread throughout the collections, allowing them to flow into each other and form a strong body of work. As such, the designs are kept simple yet impactful. Through focusing on the intricate details and finishes, high quality and unexpected fabrics, and bold structural silhouettes, the collections find a balance between modernity and classicism.

6. What is your favourite look/s from the show?

We have created an ankle length dress from delicate chocolate brown, slightly shiny, suiting wool that features a high neckline, and layered pleats that almost look like trousers beneath the dress. The dress is so simple yet mesmerising in its intriguing details, and it is a standout piece for me.

ROTATE Birger Christensen

Everyone was in a celebratory mood for ROTATE – the final show in the Copenhagen Fashion Week calendar. The collection didn't disappoint, offering up a whole host of perfect dresses in which to waft around all of summer's parties. V necks and flutter sleeves lent a 1920s sensibility, while ROTATE's signature flounces found their way into dresses via peplum hems and puff sleeves, evoking an '80s meet '50s aesthetic.

Each look was gilded by pieces from Pandora. Sculptural rings, bangles and earrings from the Danish brand were stacked for impact, while 2,000 of their iconic tennis bracelets formed part of a glittering maxi dress.

1. What was on your Spring/Summer '25 moodboard?

We wanted to create the ultimate mood of summer – the warmth, lightness, freedom and romance of the season. We pulled inspiration from many places that reminded us of this mood, and what it formed was a movie-like sequence, a visual so strong it felt almost like a real physical emotion. The collection is delicate, the pieces are lightweight, colours are soft, details have been inspired by the 1920s to bring a sense of escapism.

2. What are your favourite looks from the show?

Thora: This season we have played on some of the most iconic silhouettes from ROTATE, one of which is the classic Dawn dress. The Dawn dress is known for its exaggerated puffed sleeves, and in this collection we have transferred this detail into a cute pair of puffy shorts and a frill detail on dresses – it adds a 1950s element, which feels very elegant.

Jeanette: My favourite pieces are the simple lace garments in a vibrant raspberry pink. The dresses are minimal in their design, but they fit the body so beautifully, that they become memorable in their simplicity.

3. What did your collaborative creative process look like this season?

Our collaborative creative process is the same each season! We work together every single day and are in constant conversation with each other even when we aren’t in the office, so we are ping-ponging ideas between us all the time. Every time we see something we like, we share it and find ways to place the ideas. This is our true passion, so we are always thinking on our feet!

4. Who is the ROTATE muse, now and forever?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one muse, as we are inspired by many strong, passionate women. We have always been inspired by Bella Hadid, as she is so multifaceted. Not only is she ethereally beautiful, she is strong-willed and open, whilst being relatable, authentic and considerate.

5. How would you describe the collection?

The collection is an exploration of what summer romance means to us. It is full of the drama and glamour that ROTATE is known for, but this season we have focused on utilising more graceful fabrics and finishes and subtle colours.

Flowers are a central part of the collection’s story, where we have explored how to form flowers in different prints, embellishments and adornments to create a veritable blooming garden. We have played with details that recall the 1920s and 1950s, with intricate sequin embroidery, sculptural drapery, lively ruffled hems and puffed skirts.

Marimekko

The volume was turned up for Marimekko's Spring/Summer '25 show, as speakers blasted out techno beats from DJ Nene H – the first note was so sonorous that editors jumped out of their seats, prompting giggles from all round.

The jubilant mood continued as Marimekko showcased a mix of lesser-known prints – unearthed from the brand's rich archives – as well as new designs, made in collaboration with London-based artist Petra Börner. Dresses and two-pieces were practical and beautiful in equal parts – just what we like to see from the Finnish design house. I caught up with Creative Director, Rebekka Bay, to chat more.

1. What were you inspired by, this season?

Throughout 2024 we are celebrating Unikko – our most recognisable floral print’s 60th anniversary. I wanted 2025 to be still concerned with floral and botanical prints but wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the lesser-known flowers, in our vast archive of more than 3500+ prints. Among those prints designed by Japanese print artist Fujiwo Ishimoto.

I was really inspired by the body of work published in Flora by Nick Knight and the photographs by German photographer and sculptor Karl Blossfelt.

Our latest artist collaboration is with London-based artist Petra Börner, who has created four entirely new artworks for our Spring/Summer 2025 collection, resulting in a capsule collection of wearable pieces of art.

2. What is your favourite look/s from the show?

It is difficult to pick just one, as for me it is really in the combination, the twinning, the repetition, the pacing of the collection that I find each look to be important. Pressed for an answer [I'd say] the timeless Galleria stripe set – a skirt and overshirt – [proof that a] print designed in 1956 is still equally relevant today.

But also, the continuation of our denim collection, Marimekko Maridenim, and how well that works in total looks as well as in combination with another icon, the Jokapoika shirt. Finally, the prints developed by Petra Börner – especially Eldfamn in the full skirt and overshirt.

3. Who is the Marimekko muse?

It would be impossible to name just one, as what I love about Marimekko is that we are both democratic and inclusive, it does not mean that I am not inspired by the way Jenny Walton, Laila Gohar and Susie Lau wear Marimekko and make it their own.

4. How would you describe the collection?

Dynamic, energetic, high summer in full bloom. But also essential, easy, and utilitarian.

5. Why did you choose The Opera Park as your venue?

At Marimekko we always seek for happy contradictions, whether that means being in the meeting between nature and architecture, bold prints, and minimal silhouettes or feminine florals and an energetic, high-paced soundscape.

The Opera Park felt like the perfect location for its twisting paths and blooming wildflower fields, where models come out from the hidden gardens and then disappear again before continuing down the runway. The high-paced soundscape brought it all together and celebrated the energy of this season.

MUNTHE

MUNTHE's unwavering commitment to craftsmanship proves that fashion doesn't need to be fast and that there is immense value in delayed gratification.

For MUNTHE's Spring/Summer '25 collection, founder Naja took this concept one step further by personally planting flower seeds in a small greenhouse. Once the flowers had fully bloomed, they were picked and pressed according to her vision. These pressed flowers were then arranged by hand to form a print, which became the central inspiration for the collection.

The motif flourished in the form of floral-embroidered denim, bomber jackets elaborately quilted with flower patterns, and delicate organza embellished with crystal posies.

Gestuz

In an opulent, chandelier-laden room in Moltke's Mansion, we took our seats as a long-haired guitarist tuned up on a worn, buttermilk-yellow ottoman, surrounded by Persian carpets. Out walked Danish singer Brimheim, signalling the start of the Gestuz show.

As the performance and set suggested, the collection was replete with pieces that wouldn't look out of place in a rockstar's wardrobe, from dagger collar blouses and buttery leather bomber jackets, to oversized blazers and sheer maxi dresses.

Lovechild 1979

The Lovechild 1979 show drew inspiration from the sculptures and abstract works of Eva Hesse, resulting in a collection of modern wardrobe staples.

Airy, feminine fabrics juxtaposed practical textures, creating a series of looks for work and play. Think sheer tencel, soft lamb leather and fluid silks, as well as roughed-up denim and crisp cotton poplin – all in a palette of wheat and vanilla with shades of blue and green.

The brand always prioritises sustainability, here making use of Naia acetate – an innovative textile produced from pine and eucalyptus wood.

Ukrainian Fashion Week

It is the fifth time that Copenhagen Fashion Week has partnered with the 'Support Ukrainian Fashion' initiative, offering solidarity and support for Ukrainian designers.

This season, Ukrainian fashion brands J’AMEMME, KATERINA KVIT, OMELIA, PLNGNS and SIDLETSKIY showcased their work, which including deconstructed tailoring, elements of transparency, and directional evening wear.

'Our resilience is a testament to the strength of the fashion industry, the power of solidarity, and the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian designers,' said Iryna Danylevska, Founder and CEO of Ukrainian Fashion Week. 'We strive to preserve culture, traditions, and creativity in the darkest times.'

Baum und Pferdgarten

After Copenhagen Fashion Week, many guests were off to the Paris Olympics. I hope they gathered ample outfit inspiration from Baum und Pferdgarten’s Spring Summer 2025 collection.

Titled 'Office Olympics' and taking place at Copenhagen's Østerbro Stadium, the Spring/Summer '25 show sought to capture the energy of this year's sports-saturated year – the Euros, Olympics, Wimbledon, et al.

Models wore rugby and football shirts with lace and tulle skirts, resulting in looks that were pretty and preppy in equal measure. There was the classic combination of white socks and loafers, and the unexpected addition of football-shaped bags. If this is how my school P.E. uniform had looked, I would have been more into sports.

OpéraSPORT

This season, OpéraSPORT’s co-founders Awa Malina Stelter and Stephanie Gundelach were struck by the beauty of the flowers in the Exillion Garden, a hidden gem north of Copenhagen.

The Spring/Summer '25 collection may have been inspired by blooms, but it was anything but blousy. Instead, the brand debuted floral quilting in vegan leather, poppy-red separates and monochrome jersey pieces with frilled trims – all in recycled or organic fabrics, and ornamented with jewellery by Copenhagen-based brand, AKVA.

Caro Editions

If you've tried to secure a Caro Editions piece, you'll know that the brand's one-off, handmade creations sell out almost instantly. You'll have to be quick on the mark when the Spring/Summer '25 collection hits the (virtual) shelves – because my goodness, it's really very good.

There were perky garden hats and clownish (but totally chic) detailing. There were balloon-legged trousers tucked into riding boots. There were jewel-hued velvet blazers – one oversized, another with a nipped waist. There were clashing prints and colours, too – tartan and stripes, leopard and zebra, blue and green (which, as the rhyme goes, 'should never be seen' but worked perfectly here). The show was one of my fashion week highlights.

Skall Studio

The Skall sisters are fans of '60s and '70s style, and this latest collection takes inspiration from the British designer and style icon Loulou de la Falaise.

The look was anything but costumey, but rather laced with subtle nods to bygone eras, from a blousy flower adorning a simple, sleeveless top to embroidered detailing upon wafty kaftans and throw-on jackets. I particularly loved the relaxed tailoring in tones of white and off-white – I could happily spend a summer in one of Skall's tailored waistcoats, wide-leg trousers and oversized summer hats.

Forza Collective

'The collection draws inspiration from an ongoing interplay between structure and softness,' read the show notes for Forza Collective's Spring/Summer '25 collection.

Kristoffer Kongshaug fused elements from '60s and '70s couture with '90s minimalism. There were dresses in candyfloss pink, sunflower yellow and apple green – some semi-sheer, others traced with girlish ruching, another with foiled bra cups.

To showcase the collection, Kongshaug chose women who embody the strength and energy of the brand, including Danish actress Ellen Hillingsø and ballet dancer Cecilie Lassen.

The Garment

The Garment makes a strong case for dresses over trousers – in this case, delicate, ethereal chiffons atop tailored slacks.

Designed by Charlotte Eskildsen, the brand's latest collection features intricately detailed lace and lingerie fabrics sourced from flea markets in France, proving it is more than possible to breathe new life into old textiles in fresh, modern ways.

The stand-out look? A semi-sheer, pale-blue suit – perfectly tailored, fuss-free and just a little bit sexy.

PSA: Socks and sandals are officially in style—at least according to the street style set at Copenhagen Fashion Week. While in previous seasons those in attendance have opted for the eternally classic ankle boot or retro-inspired trainers as their footwear of choice, this season saw many turning to the more controversial combo and we can’t help wondering why we didn’t embrace it sooner.

While brands like Stine Goya and Baum und Pferdgarten showcased Spring Summer ready florals and picnic table-inspired gingham prints on the catwalk, on the FROW the style set tapped into a more transitional style when it came to their footwear choices—and when you take into account the current changing weather, it’s a choice that not only looks great but just makes sense.

From sheer socks with barely there kitten heels to chunky sport styles paired with ladylike slingbacks, there was a myriad of inspiration on offer on the Copenhagen streets, proving the versatility of this once blacklisted combo. 

If you’re wondering how to pull off the look, it’s best to create contrast between your socks and sandals. Chunky sandals look great with a more delicate sock, while oversized socks will toughen up styles you’d previously only wear in party season.

And the street stylers aren’t the only ones taking socks and sandals out for a spin. Hailey Beiber has also been turning to the look on her off-duty days. While out and about in Los Angeles earlier this year, she opted for a pair of white ankle socks alongside chunky fisherman-style sandals for the ultimate in cool girl styling.

This week, it was the Scandinavian fashion industry's time to shine, as Copenhagen Fashion Week took place across the vibrant city. From beloved labels to newer kids on the block, it was clear that this season brands were set on making an impact. And make an impact they did. 

Indeed, as it turns out, even Copenhagen isn't immune to the appeal of the shock factor runway. The (di)vision show saw a model completely clear a table while wearing a dress attached to a tablecloth, while the Rotate Birger Christensen show contained a surprise appearance by none-other-than Lisa Rinna. 

The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star took to the runway dressed in a black one-piece swimsuit with a leopard print coat over the top, seriously making an entrance.  

While the city is known for its vibrant street style, and incredibly well-dressed attendees, this season, Copenhagen Fashion Week made sure all eyes were on the runway.

Copenhagen Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2023 best looks:

Ganni

Held at the Arken Museum of Modern Art, this season Ganni was inspired by butterflies, or more specifically the things butterflies symbolise like transformation, change, and positivity. The collection largely focused on sleek tailoring and denim, with ruched dresses, knitted maxis and some metallic pieces dotted throughout.  

Rotate Birger Christensen

Party dressing is the name of the game at Rotate Birger Christensen, and this season the brand played into exactly that with a little help from its famous friends. Notable influencers and industry insiders took to the runway (including Emili Sindlev, Grece Ghanem, and Janka Polliani) and of course, former RHOBH star Lisa Rinna also made an appearance. 

Supersized sequins, leopard prints and metallic fabrics were key elements of the collection, that would look right at home on the dancefloor. 

Baum Und Pferdgarten

Wes Anderson's film The Royal Tenenbaums, was the starting point for Baum und Pferdgarten's latest collection (as evidenced by the side-parted, red-clipped model hairstyles). Gwyneth Paltrow's look from that film is irrefutably iconic, and seemingly still as relevant as ever, two decades later.

The brand played into the Gwyneth aesthetic through mary-jane heels and long, tailored coats, but also took inspiration from other characters in the film with the addition of tracksuits and tennis-inspired wares. 

Holzweiler

Holzweiler's Autumn/Winter 2023 collection was an ode to the deep sea, inspired by underwater landscapes with a set that emulated just that. Fluid fabrics and layering became key themes throughout as the brand presented draped dresses, puffer jackets, knitwear and denim. Accessories had long, fringing that looked akin to seaweed floating in the ocean, and gauzy knitwear replicated laddered fishing nets. The colour palette also took inspiration from the sea and the sky.  

Copenhagen Fashion Week is renowned for its sublime street style. Amongst editors and influencers, Scandinavian women have built a reputation for being impeccably dressed, whether they err on the side of head-to-toe neutrals or find themselves on the more colour-filled, playful end of the style spectrum.

The Spring/Summer 2026 shows, which commenced this week, have brought together the international style set to see what the country's top designers and fresh new talents have dreamt up sartorially. This season also sees Cecilie Bahnsen make her grand return to the city after seven seasons in Paris, while newcomer Anne Sofie Madsen is slated to be one to watch.

But, as ever, the fashion inspiration doesn't stop on the runway—and this is especially true in Copenhagen. Because while we are, of course, fascinated to see what the designers are debuting, we are equally interested in seeing what people are wearing on the streets outside the shows themselves. They're the outfits we can most realistically copy, after all.

Copenhagen Fashion Week Street Style Spring/Summer 2026: The Best Looks

Copenhagen Fashion Week has just come to a close, and as ever, it's bring us a fabulous dose of Scandi fashion, with labels and designers such as Baum und Pferdgarten, Ganni and Holzweiler getting us excited for next winter thanks to their AW22 collections.

But it's not just the catwalk serving us major style inspo, the street is just as good, with editors and influencers descending on the Danish capital in their best and brightest outfits. Keep scrolling for a recap of the shows, as well as the best street style from CPFW.

Nynne

The brand is not only working to empower women to feel great about themselves, but also about the choices they make in life. Adding new volumes and cutlines to key wardrobe pieces has been the mission, but also making sure it has a multifunctional purpose. NYNNE has taken inspiration from the film noir movement, merging the high glamour and drama with practicality. The pieces are designed to be mixed and matched for different occasions.

Baum und Pferdgarten

Baum und Pferdgarten built on the Arctic north for an autumn/winter collection full of layers and surprises. There were streamlined puffers in punchy metallics, quilted A-line skirts, overshirts and trousers in earthy neutrals. Knitwear added layers of colours and warmth while staple denims were elevated thanks to crystal embellishments. Comforting fashion at its best.

Ganni

The Ganni show is always one of the highlights of Copenhagen Fashion Week and this season's didn't disappoint. The collection was fun and frilly without compromising on Ganni's DNA of western (those cowboy boots!) and 90s influencers mixed with colour and embellishments. There were ribbons and bows everywhere, pencil skirts in deep magenta sequins, made from recycled polyester - sustainability being at the core of the brand.

'This season is all about high energy, channeling hope and optimism as the world opens up again and greeting it with confidence,' said Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director of GANNI.

Holzweiler

Holzweiler's AW22 collection, ‘Weathering’, took its cue from the weather and the effects it has on its environment.

This translated into weathered effects and decayed textures across garments, with key details including distressed hems, peeling paint, natural patinas and “the beauty of decay” as lace and delicate fabric.

Samsøe Samsøe

The AW22 was the first under the helm of the label's new Head of Womenswear Design, Meme Marta Fagiuoli, who wanted to put the focus on 'a woman in power' one that belonged in the eccentric, fast paced New York City of the 90s . Think sexy and bold designs, strong tailoring and feel-good clothing.

'We strive to be an inclusive brand by not excluding any sex or body shape with our collections', said Meme Marta Fagiuoli.

With Copenhagen Fashion Week wrapping up today, I'm looking to those Scandi streets for a bit of style inspiration for the season ahead, and as always, you can truly rely on designers such as GANNI, Cecilie Bahnsen and Baum & Pferdgarten to set the trends.

Baby blue

If you thought pastels were just for spring, you're wrong. For autumn/winter 2020, it seems like baby blue is the colour du jour. Cecilie Bahnsen took inspiration from the landscape Martina Hoogland-Ivanow took in the north of Russia for her show, translating it into delicate dresses mixed in with chunkier wool, and outerwear that blends the lines between masculinity and femininity. As for the hues, it was all about browns and sky blues. Over at Baum & Pferdgarten, the soft colour was everywhere too.

Practical dressing

AW20 is all about pairing back and investing in no-fuss pieces that you'll be able to wear every day. At GANNI, this translated into uniform-like utilitarian sleeveless blazers alongside slouchier offerings, like a tweed grandad blazer and trousers styled with oversized shirts. At By Malene Birger, there was plenty of oversized knitwear, paired with leather trousers and more tailored coats.

Quilted coats

It's time to dust off your old Barbour jacket, because quilted coats are back in a big way if the chic show attendees are to be believed. I love this butter yellow take on the trend, but I also spotted more wearable brown and black duffle coats.

Colourful leather

Leather, whether real or faux, has been big news on the catwalks for the past couple of seasons, and it's not going away anytime soon. For the Copenhagen Fashion Week shows, the street style set opted for bold colours such as pink, green and blue over the more classic shades of caramel and browns.

Sustainability

Whilst not technically a trend, it's important to talk about sustainability, and it's a subject Copenhagen Fashion Week is taking very seriously indeed. It unveiled an ambitious three-year plan to ensure its brands are taking action against the climate crisis.

It is the first fashion week to reduce its environmental impact, with single-use plastic bottles already banned, and operational carbon emissions are being offset, whilst the ultimate goal is to be zero waste by 2023. It is also looking at banning plastic hangers by 2021.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is also asking all of its brands to comply with sustainability standards. By 2023, all its designers should comply with 17 minimum standards, which include zero waste set designs, using at least 50 per cent certified organic, upcycled or recycled textiles in all collections and pledging not to destroy unsold clothes.

Certain brands are already leading the way, with Baum & Pferdgarten producing an AW20 collection that is over 50% sustainable, whilst GANNI is using reworked pieces as part of their pop-up this year.
