Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan were one of the most talked-about couples of recent years, with the A-listers separating in December 2024 after almost a year of dating.

"It’s because there was a narrative out there that was never really sort of even spoken on," he continued. "A narrative that’s not true, and I never confirmed or said anything about it. And I just disappeared."

This, he confirmed, when asked by Lil Dicky (real name: David Burd) was in reference to the rumours that he had cheated on Carpenter.

"I’m not asking for people to become my fan and like me because that’s not normal," Keoghan continued. "I’m asking for people to stop assuming and also stop jumping on this narrative and attacking me and dragging me down in any way you can. I’m not saying this for pity. Why is it cool to hop on and beat someone up?"

This is not the first time that Keoghan has spoken out about the online abuse he has received, with the actor previously opening up about his decision to step away from the internet.

"People are so lovely out there [but] there’s also a nasty side of it," the Peaky Blinders star told SiriusXM earlier this year. "And I’ve removed myself from online, but I’m still a curious human being that wants to go on. And if I attend an event or if I go somewhere, you want to see how it was received. And it’s not nice, you know?

"There’s a lot of hate online," he added. "There’s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it’s kind of past the point of, ‘Everyone goes through that.’ And everyone does, but it’s made me shy away. It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside. And I say this being absolute pure and honest to you – it’s becoming a problem."

Long before her box office success with 'Wuthering Heights', director Emerald Fennell dominated headlines following the release of her controversial thriller-comedy, Saltburn. Although the film, which stars Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan, was largely slated by critics, it found a huge fanbase on social media where many of the key moments were meme-ified and thoroughly dissected - from the shocking grave scene, to the hidden meaning behind the awkward, eggy breakfast.

Now, Barry has finally confirmed that he was indeed sipping on a dairy-heavy mixture during an appearance on Hits Radio Breakfast. The buzziest casting announcement just happened: Barry Keoghan and Paul Mescal are reportedly part of the lineup for an upcoming movie series on The Beatles. In a press release on 1st April 2025, Sony confirmed to Marie Claire UK that the two Irish actors would be appearing in the four-film series alongside Harris Dickinson and Joseph Quinn. According to the release, Harris will play John Lennon, Paul will play his namesake Paul McCartney, Barry will be Ringo Starr, and Joseph will portray George Harrison.

An official photo of the four stars has also been released. Meanwhile, the press release included the disclaimer: "Credits not final."

Although it elicited an excited initial reaction from the four actors' fans, the timing of this announcement is also raising eyebrows: could it be an April Fool's joke? If so, our poor fragile hearts would be shattered. Anyway, let's investigate.

While the announcement has made it into most media outlets on 1st April, Deadline did publish an announcement on Monday 31st March. The publication reported that director Sam Mendes had confirmed the casting at Sony's CinemaCon, and had also provided details on the upcoming films, which are set for simultaneous release in April 2028.

Some fans are convinced that the 31st March announcement could be an elaborate ruse to make the April Fool's joke more plausible. When Sony Pictures posted a photo of the four actors on Instagram (on 1st April), people were quick to speculate. "Is this an April fools joke please say yes" wrote one person.

"Hey so feel free to tell us this is an April fool's joke at any time!" said someone else.

"Probably not smart to post this on April 1st…" remarked a third fan.

We reached out to a representative from Sony for comment on this developing story, and did not receive a response at the time of writing. But it's worth noting that while the casting is still causing doubt online, in February 2024 Deadline reported that Sam Mendes had partnered with Sony and Apple Corps on a four-film series, each of which would centre on one of the Beatles. This information aligns with what Sam reiterated at CinemaCon.

So, elaborate April Fool's or perfectly timed announcement? Either way - everyone is talking about it.

Sabrina Carpenter has been front and centre in 2024. And from opening the Eras tour for Taylor Swift and her recent Grammy Award nominations, to her star-studded Christmas Netflix special, the 25-year-old singer is all anyone can talk about.

However, it is her former relationship with Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan that has made the most headlines, with the couple reportedly breaking up earlier this month.

The singer recently gave an in-depth interview to Rolling Stone, and obviously the question of her new love interest popped up.

Sabrina wasn't exactly dying to talk about her love life, but she still gave us some things to work with. Asked whether she refers to Barry as her boyfriend, she answered: "How do I skirt around this question?"

Barry and Sabrina are yet to confirm that they're in a relationship, but during a recent interview with Cosmopolitan the popstar said that she tries to ignore the furore around who she's dating, saying: "I'm not really aware of that until I have someone random that I didn't tell 'Oh, I’m dating this person' tell me: 'Oh, you're dating this person.'

"It's a weird thing and it's so funny because it might be someone that I talked to three times, and I haven’t even decided if I like them. But it’s like, if you’re two feet away from them, then you are together."

The Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter dating rumours are showing no signs of slowing down, and the pair have been playfully keeping the internet guessing with subtle nods to the swirling rumours. The Saltburn star and Feather singer were first spotted together in December, and although fans are still waiting for their official red carpet debut a clip of Barry getting distracted by Sabrina at the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party went viral last month. 

While two celebrities have yet to confirm or deny the speculation that they're in a relationship, Barry has fans convinced that they are in fact an item after he posted some supportive (ahem, thirsty) comments on Sabrina's latest Instagram photo. 

Sabrina shared collection of images from her new 90s inspired campaign with Kim Kardashian's shapewear brand Skims, and in the photos she's modelling a number of new pieces from their Spring collection.

Underneath the selection of photos, Barry commented with a fire and hot face emoji, followed by the words: "Barbie emoji."

Barry and Sabrina were first spotted enjoying dinner together in Los Angeles just before Christmas, and although fans hoped that they would be photographed together on one of the various red carpets during awards season, they were careful to keep their distance - but photos from inside a GRAMMYs afterparty in February officially tied them together for the first time. 

Historically, Barry has remained fairly private about his personal life. Late last year, when journalists started asking questions about the status of his relationship with Alyson Kierans - with whom he shares a 19 month old son, Brando - he declined to comment, simply sharing that she has 'done a great job and she’s an incredible mother'. The pair were together for two and a half years but reportedly separated last summer.

Sabrina has yet to publicly acknowledge the Barry Keoghan dating rumours, but in March a clip of the pair went viral. In the video, viewers can see her sweetly running to - and hugging - Barry after one of her Eras Tour performances in Singapore.

Barry Keoghan is perfectly happy for girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter to have celebrity crushes and shout about them from the rooftops.

Speaking at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday, Sabrina said: "If I see Cillian Murphy, I'm probably gonna leave the party. Probably just gonna leave with him."

She continued: "I'm not gonna leave with him. I'm just gonna leave at the same time as him so I can see where he lives. So I can, like, follow his car."

Vanity Fair posted a video of the "Feather" singer saying this unabashedly to the camera on Instagram, with the caption, "Someone help @sabrinacarpenter track down Oscar winner Cillian Murphy—stat." When Barry saw that, he commented: "🙋🏻☘️" in a reference to both men being Irish.

Fans thought this interaction was hilarious. When the Instagram account @commentsbycelebs posted about it with the caption, "Luck of the Irish," one person wrote: "Can’t blame her tbh"

Others didn't quite realise Sabrina was joking and her boyfriend thought it was funny, so a lot of commenters also busied themselves making sure everyone knew it was in fact a joke.

Cillian, of course, has been married to Yvonne McGuinness since 2004. While Sabrina and Barry haven't quite been together as long as that, every sign points to them going strong.

The Eras Tour performer and Saltburn star first sparked dating rumours in December, when they were spotted out on a date together in LA. Then in February, they were pictured looking very cosy at a Grammys after-party.

And finally, at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Barry went viral for getting hopelessly distracted by Sabrina's arrival while posing for red-carpet photos. Fans could not get enough of the actor admiring his girlfriend, because it was just that sweet.

The Vanity Fair do is widely understood to have served as the new couple's relationship "hard launch," since they seemed to be attending together despite not posing for pictures as a duo.

There was no shortage of A-listers in Los Angeles this weekend with the 96th Academy Awards coaxing the likes of Emma Stone, Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence to the Dolby Theatre to watch John Cena sidewalk naked across the stage and Ryan Gosling sing I'm Just Ken in a sparkly pink suit. It was, naturally, a night to remember, but the celebrities really let their hair down at the annual Vanity Fair Oscars party in Beverly Hills after the ceremony. 

The red carpet is an event in itself, with the biggest names in the industry zipping into a second look before partying the night away. It's also where a lot of eagle-eyed celeb spotters notice details about the dalliances among Hollywood's elite - and this year, the focus was on Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter. 

The rumoured couple were first linked in December, and fans were expecting the pair to walk the red carpet together at the Golden Globes. However, it wasn't until the Grammys in February that the Saltburn star and the Feather singer were photographed together - albeit in a fairly neutral pose, with Barry and Sabrina covering their faces. 

But while neither party has confirmed that they're an item, Barry's behaviour on the Vanity Fair Oscars party red carpet isn't convincing that they're not. In a clip that has since gone viral on social media, Barry can be seen moving from photo spot to photo spot, and as the photographers are attempting to direct him and get his attention, he keeps looking back at Sabrina, who was next in line. 

One fan shared a clip of the exchange on TikTok, and you can clearly see Barry finding it impossible to take his eyes off of the singer. He mouths 'oh my God' as he spots her, and when he realises that he can't focus, he says: "Sorry, I'm distracted."

Fans have been quick to share their thoughts on the interaction, with one commenting on the video: "He said 'omg' he's in love."

Another person wrote on X: "The way Barry Keoghan can't look away from Sabrina Carpenter makes my standards even higher."

A third said: "I need a man obsessed with me as much as Barry Keoghan is with Sabrina Carpenter."

The A-listers were out in force for the Grammy Awards this weekend, with the likes of Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo lining the chairs at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles while watching iconic performances from Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman. Taylor Swift, who won her 13th Grammy Award, used her acceptance speech to announce the release of her new album, while Jay-Z used his win to voice his disappointment that Beyoncé - who made history last year as the biggest Grammys winner of all time - has yet to be awarded in the Best Album category. 

But just as the ceremony itself piques the interest of music fans across the globe, so do the after parties. In fact, this year there was one post-show bash that has had everyone talking as photos from the night appear to show a pretty cosy Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter. 

The Saltburn star was first linked to the Feather singer late last year, with rumours  circulating in December that the pair had started dating after a string of public dates. Reports suggested that Barry and Sabrina would attend the Golden Globes together in January, but a red carpet debut never materialised. However, they were snapped together at Bar Marmont in Los Angeles at a party hosted by W Magazine, Mark Ronson and Gucci. And a post on the W Mag Instagram account includes a photo of the pair looking rather close. 

The caption reads: "It was murder on the dancefloor last night at Los Angeles’s Bar Marmont where W Magazine, Mark Ronson and Gucci hosted a star-packed Grammys after party. Spotted in the crowd were Barry Keoghan cozying up to rumored girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter and Dua Lipa and Callum Turner dancing their hearts out."

The carousel also includes snaps of Mark Ronson and his wife Grace Gummer, as well as Anya Taylor Joy and husband Malcolm McRae. One fan commented: "The amount of just iconic couples that were hard launch by this."

Another wrote: "It’s like celebrity prom, I love it."

A third added: "BARRY AND SABRINA??? HELLO."

Can we take this as confirmation that they're most definitely on? 

It seems that Saltburn fever is showing no signs of slowing down. The film became an instant hit over the festive period after its release on Amazon Prime Video, with families gathered on the sofa expecting a soft drama but quickly squirming while gripping the tin of Quality Street. 

And there have been a few key Saltburn scenes that have garnered the most attention. Viewers have unpicked the meaning behind the awkward egg scene, Barry Keoghan's naked dancing to Murder on the Dancefloor became a (clothed) TikTok trend and put Sophie Ellis Bextor at the top of the charts, and it turns out that the shocking grave scene was actually improvised. 

But if there is a single moment that everyone has come back to time and time again, it's the one involving Jacob Elordi's bath water. In fact, it even got made into a candle and Margot Robbie sniffed it on the red carpet. Whether it's Barry's commitment to slurping sounds, the proximity of the camera to his face as he drinks it, or the cloudy liquid itself, it has become the most talked about 30 seconds of the entire film. 

Naturally, it left viewers with a lot of questions - but it seems there is one in particular that has played on the minds of movie watchers: what on earth was Barry actually drinking? 

Well, Production Designer Suzie Davies is here to clear it up. In an interview with Business Insider she shared that the team concocted something unique to act as Felix Catton's semen-infused bathwater. When asked what was swirling in the bath, she said: "Yoghurt and a bit of milk and some water."

And it seems that Barry really was dedicated to getting everything from the sounds to the movements rights. She added: "He did it four times and really went for it. Every one he did was a different kind of slurp. Often, when you film things like that, there are 20 people in the room. It’s quite tense. But the cast can bring something that’s so extraordinary that you can hear a pin drop. So when Barry was doing his stuff, it was amazing. He had no inhibitions."

Well, now you know.

The actor first gained recognition for his performance in The Killing of a Sacred Deer in 2017, but it was his role in The Banshees of Inisherin that really catapulted him into the spotlight. It led to his first BAFTA award win last year, and he was also nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Following on from his huge success in early 2023, he has gone on to star in Top Boy and most recently, Saltburn (the controversial grave scene led to director Emerald Fennell calling his performance 'the most extraordinary thing I'd ever seen').  

So while his noteworthy roles have been widely discussed, he has remained fairly private about his personal life. In a new interview with GQ, Barry was asked about his relationship with Alyson Kierans, with whom he shares a son, 17 month old Brando. However, the publication noted that while he said she has 'done a great job and she’s an incredible mother' he declined to comment further. 

The couple reportedly split last summer and Barry was spotted enjoying dinner in LA with musician Sabrina Carpenter in December, fuelling speculation that they are dating. A source had told The Sun that Barry and Sabrina were planning to walk the Golden Globes red carpet together this weekend, but that he wanted to make his ex aware ahead of the event last Sunday. 

They claimed: "Barry thought it was best that Alyson was the first to know about him and Sabrina so she wouldn’t be hurt if she found out on social media. He is spending a lot of time in the States and has invited Sabrina to be his ‘plus one’ at the Golden Globes. Alyson and Barry still communicate for the sake of Brando, and he has been open about his new relationship."

Although Barry walked the red carpet alone and neither of them have addressed the dating rumours, it hasn't stopped fans from discussing their potential romance on X, formerly Twitter, with one fan writing: "Idk if I'm jealous that Sabrina Carpenter is [with] Barry Keoghan or that Barry Keoghan is [with] Sabrina Carpenter."

Another added: "Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan am I reading this correctly."

But it seems that Alyson's mum Kathy Kierans has all but confirmed that Barry is dating someone new, as she told The Daily Mail that the pair are co-parenting their son Brando, and that Barry had spoken to her about his new relationship.

She said: "They're on talking terms and need to be for wee Brando. Barry had the decency to give Alyson the heads up about his new girlfriend and we can't fault him for that. Alyson is now focusing on herself and her son."

Are they? Aren't they? We'll have to wait and see..

Saltburn fever has well and truly gripped the nation. Barry Keoghan's shocking grave scene has had everyone talking, Jacob Elordi's bathwater has been turned into a candle and Sophie Ellis Bextor is back in the UK charts with Murder on the Dancefloor thanks to the film's naked dancing finale. 

Since Saltburn was released in cinemas in November, and then added to Amazon Prime Video a month later, the internet has been flooded with reactions, memes, and cautionary tales of watching it with your parents. Scenes have been analysed for their shock value - ahem, slurpy baths - as well as their artistic merit, and the stellar performances from Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Alison Oliver and Carey Mulligan have not gone unnoticed in the run-up to award season. 

But there is one scene in particular that holds a lot more weight than you might have initially realised. Early in the film, Oliver (Keoghan) attends his first breakfast at the Saltburn estate, and when he mistakenly assumes that he must order his meal the family explain how breakfast there works - only for him to then ask Duncan the butler to return his eggs to the kitchen as he doesn't like a runny yolk. On first viewing, it feels tense and uncomfortable as we see his seemingly unassuming character make the request, navigating new territory as the other members of the family watch on with a raised eyebrow. However, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. 

The scene appears to serve two purposes: the first being that it highlights just how different Oliver is from the rest of the Catton family. While there are some very obvious things that differentiate him and his new friend Felix (Elordi), something as simple as a breakfast order emphasises how vastly different their lifestyles are. But once viewers have watched the whole film, it could be seen through a new lens entirely - what if Oliver had orchestrated the whole awkward exchange in order to 'other' himself from the family on purpose? It plays into his carefully constructed persona, and may have bolstered the Cattons' sympathy for him. 

Director Emerald Fennell has praised Keoghan for his performance in the film, calling his ability to embrace the character 'the most extraordinary thing I'd ever seen'. He was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor category, and although the award went to Cillian Murphy this weekend Keoghan is also up for the Leading Actor BAFTA award this year. 

Well deserved.

Saltburn may not be a festive film, but Emerald Fennell's drama-thriller-comedy was all the internet could talk about during that strange time between Christmas and New Year's. As the nation slipped into a Celebrations-induced daze, millions tuned in to see what the Saltburn fuss was really about - and many, unwisely, chose to pop it on as a family film. For those who haven't seen it yet, my advice is: don't. 

There's a lot to unpack in this film. It's a black comedy and Greek mythology-infused mystery thriller, populated by excessively rich and vacuous individuals, but muddled genres aside there are some specific scenes that have left social media aghast. Of course, there's that bath scene. Then there's the deranged pie eating. And let's not forget Barry Keoghan's naked wiggling to Murder on the Dancefloor. 

But one of the moments that has really stuck with viewers is the moment that Keoghan's character gets rather intimate with some grave soil. In the scene, Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi) has just been laid to rest, and Oliver Quick (Keoghan) cries on his grave before stripping down to defile it. 

And while it has become one of the most talked about moments of Saltburn, it turns out that director Emerald Fennell hadn't actually planned for things to go that far in the original script. She told Entertainment Weekly: "I spoke to Barry in the morning, and I just said, 'I don't know, Barry. I think that he would... unzip.' And Barry just said, 'Yup.'"

Keoghan added: "She plants seeds, Emerald, you know what I mean? She knows that they're going to grow, these seeds, especially when she plants them with me. But it is a testament to Emerald and having that idea and me meeting it with, to be honest, no questions. I was totally on board for it."

He continued: "For me, it wasn't about fecking the grave, it was more about: I don't know what to do with this obsession; it's making me confused and making me un-human in a way. It was a total discovery for him, I think. And it was sad. It was very, very sad."

Fennell went on to call his performance 'the most extraordinary thing I'd ever seen'.
