Anya Taylor-Joy's first time driving a car was when she had to perform a stunt while filming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga — even though she doesn't have a driving licence in real life.

"They just threw me in the car and went, you're going to do this. I was like 'OK,'" the actress admitted during a recent appearance on Lorraine alongside costar Chris Hemsworth (via the Daily Mail). "It's fun that the first thing I learned how to do in a car was [stunts]."

She continued: "I have fallen in love with it, I want to get my normal driving licence, I want to get my stunt driving licence. It's a really cool way to learn how to drive."

Anya previously spoke to Entertainment Weekly about jumping in the deep end in terms of driving.

"I still don't have my licence. I haven't been anywhere long enough to get a licence," the actress explained to the publication earlier this month. The star was born in Miami, then grew up in Buenos Aires and London, before travelling the world as a famous actress.

She added, speaking of filming stunts for Furiosa: "It is pretty cool that the first thing I learned to do in a car is a juicy lift 180. I feel pretty secure in that, but I love cars. I love Formula 1. My dad was a power boat racer, so we're just pretty petrol-y as a family."

However, she hasn't always been entirely enamoured with this particular experience, telling Graham Norton in 2022 that filming the stunt was "really crazy and slightly upsetting."

Anya and Chris star in Furiosa alongside Quaden Bayles and Nicholas Hoult, plus Chris' wife Elsa Pataky. The film comes out in cinemas this Friday, 24 May, and has already received rave reviews. It even received a six-minute standing ovation when it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

Anya Taylor-Joy has found a storybook love with husband Malcolm McRae.

The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star is ELLE US' latest cover star, and has sweetly opened up about her relationship with Malcolm — and their two weddings.

The actress and musician eloped on 1 April, 2022, which she didn't reveal publicly until this year, then had a bigger in September 2023 at a palazzo in Venice.

"We’re just real romantics," Anya told ELLE, speaking of the elopement. "We were born on the same day. And we wanted to make sure that our first experience was something that was completely for us. So we eloped in New Orleans with our two best friends and had the time of our lives. It was magical. But I’m lucky to say that the second experience — with all of our families — was so beyond beautiful, and I just feel very, very lucky."

Anya also touched on her lovely relationship with Malcolm now that they've been married two years.

"I’m an incredibly sensitive, hyper-feeling person.

Jadie started her career at Marie Claire UK in 2018 when she joined the team as the Lifestyle and Social Media Editor, writing news and lifestyle features while managing the brands social channels and strategy. In 2022, she became the site’s News Editor and writes about everything from the latest dating show to politics to the seasonal Starbucks menus - all while overseeing a team of brilliant writers.

While her day-to-day generally revolves around daily news reporting, she can also be found testing unique experiences like spooning circles and orgasm workshops, committing to sweaty fitness challenges to see what all the fuss is about, or jetting off to find the best cocktails in Beverly Hills.

During her time at the University of Sussex studying English Literature and Drama, she blagged her way into a job as a theatre and music reviewer for the local paper and headed the university’s creative writing club. After graduating, she spent a year working as an intern for as many magazines as would take her before moving to Australia and travelling for almost three years. When she got back to the UK, she qualified as an NCTJ accredited journalist at News Associates and quickly landed her first job in the industry.

Jadie went on to work for a number of women’s fashion and lifestyle titles, including Grazia, Women’s Health and Stylist, and while there have been some incredible career highlights over the years (interviewing celebrities and reviewing boujee destinations) she has also embarrassed herself many times, whether it was impromptu beatboxing in front of a confused Disney star or hosting an awkward Facebook Live while making a milkshake.

For the last four years, she has happily been a part of the MC UK team, and when she’s not using her year 12 touch typing skills to pump out content at an impressive speed, she is blaming Mercury in retrograde for her problems, watching Les Miserables with a hangover, or travelling. She would be the perfect addition to any pub quiz team thanks to her impressive knowledge of the royal family, celebrity gossip and ability to decipher anagrams.

The couple reportedly met in New York in May 2021, and by the end of 2023 wedding rumours were swirling; although the pair had not confirmed that they were married, photos of Anya wearing a wedding dress in Venice, Italy had surfaced online, leading many of her fans to believe that they had said 'I do'.

This week, the Dune: Part Two star confirmed that the musician is, in fact, her husband. However, she also shared that the couple actually 'secretly married' in a private ceremony in New Orleans two years ago, where she was joined by her good friend Cara Delevingne.

In a post on Instagram, Anya shared a selection of photos from their wedding day which included a full shot of her gorgeous Dior gown, delicately embroidered with hummingbirds, as well as an interesting photo of their 'wedding cake' - two 'anatomically correct heart cakes' in blood pools.

In the caption, she wrote: "Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest. N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat."

A post shared by Anya Taylor-Joy (@anyataylorjoy)

A photo posted by on

Malcolm also took to Instagram to share his own photos of their wedding, which included a stunning photo of Anya posing on an organ, and a video of themselves surrounded by candles. He wrote: "I love you now and somehow I always have and somehow it will never end. Happy two year anniversary (yesterday), beautiful."

Anya and Malcolm have remained fairly private about their relationship over the years, but in an interview with British Vogue in 2022 The Queen's Gambit star opened up about her now-husband, saying: "I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby. I see reading as something that I have to do. He loved it because he's the same. I've finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We're basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well."

Well, belated congratulations!

It’s Friday night, and she’s just got back from shooting her first fashion campaign – for Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Midnight fragrance – in New York. If Anya Taylor-Joy (who is of Argentine, Spanish, Scottish and British descent) wasn’t already about to go stratospheric with her acting career, then her latest role as a beauty ambassador for Viktor & Rolf’s new perfume will surely seal the deal. ‘It’s going to be weird,’ she nods, taking a sip of Merlot and removing her leather jacket to reveal a long T-shirt and skinny trousers that look like tights – ‘I’m very into Edie Sedgwick at the moment’. ‘I’m going to get bombarded by family members taking awkward selfies in front of billboards and I’ll be like, “Oh my God”.’

Since the 22-year-old burst on to the big screen as the lead in cult indie horror film The Witch in 2015, Anya Taylor-Joy has quietly carved out a kooky niche as a scream queen in psychological thrillers like M Night Shyamalan’s Split (2016) and Glass (2019), and the sci-fi horror Morgan (2016). She rose to wider prominence in BBC One’s memorable adaptation of Jessie Burton’s debut novel The Miniaturist in 2017. This year, the actress is stepping things up a gear with roles in the much-anticipated Marvel movie The New Mutants, big-budget CGI animation Playmobil: The Movie (with Daniel Radcliffe), and Marie Curie biopic Radioactive (alongside Rosamund Pike). There’s also, most significantly, a lead role in Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance, coming soon to Netflix, and starring everyone from Helena Bonham Carter to Alicia Vikander.

You’ve filmed projects back to back since you started out. I have [the ages of] 18 to 22 recorded on film. At the beginning, it was a bit of a baptism of fire. I’m certainly my own worst enemy. If I was in a boxing match with myself, I’d be formidable. I’d rather have The Rock in there than me. I am not someone who is particularly good at being famous.’

Why do you think you’re not cut out for it?

‘I’m quite “extra” as a person. I spent so much of my childhood trying to be normal and dampen down all [my] craziness. Then, last year, I just thought, “I’m done.” I’m gonna be myself and do weird things with my hands and sing at inappropriate moments. There’s definitely a story to be told there, but I want to make sure that when I do tell it I’ve got all my ducks in a row, so it can make an impact for the greater good. I met [Downton Abbey star] Allen Leech on my third ever [modelling] job and he took my name and number. A couple of weeks later, I got a call from his (and my now) agent. Jennifer Jason Leigh [her co-star in Morgan] once said to me, “Even if you don’t understand a script or what’s going on, if you love the director, just jump, because they’re going to do something right.” Romola Garai [her co-star in The Miniaturist] gave me a book that killed me. You have to set your own boundaries, and I think we’re coming into a [time] where women feel more comfortable finding that voice. It’s fun to be difficult sometimes. And, by the way, being difficult does not mean being a dick, it means saying, “I’m sorry, I’m not comfortable with this, so I will not be doing it.”’

When was the last time you were difficult?

‘I don’t think I’m a difficult person. I’m very easy to work with and I work hard. I’m kind to people, but don’t bullshit me because I will call you out on it. That is so not me; I’ve never even seen a horror movie. I’ve never actually looked at genres. I’m about to start shooting [the lead in a new adaptation of [Jane Austen’s] Emma by a director called Autumn de Wilde. She’s the coolest.’

Have you seen Gwyneth Paltrow’s Emma (1996)?

‘No. I want my own Emma. I’m quite excited to bring a more eccentric version to the screen. I’d like to create a very real person with very real insecurities. That’s not a comment on Gwyneth’s performance, because I haven’t seen the film. It says a lot about the character that Austen says [at the beginning of the book] that she’s written a character who nobody other than her will like. I love that.’

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Midnight EDP, £71 for 50ml, is available exclusively at Debenhams from 1 March and nationwide from 31 March
