For anyone who isn't familiar with Julia Restoin Roitfeld, her name has long been synonymous with the world of fashion. As the daughter of one of the fashion industry's most prominent and respected editors, style is in her DNA. Her mother, Carine Roitfeld, was Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue for a decade, meaning Julia spent her formative years front row at fashion shows, immersed in the world of fashion.

I first came across Julia nearly 20 years ago, when she was one of the most stylish and recognisable faces front row at London Fashion Week. If a designer was looking to invite the coolest names in fashion, Julia was always on the guest list. What was already clear to me at the time was her innate sense of style, no doubt inherited from her mother, but also her determination to carve out her own path.

Shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2012, Julia launched her own website, Romy and the Bunnies, a personal blog dedicated to parenting, style and motherhood. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with brands ranging from Hervé Léger to The Outnet. Today, with a top-secret jewellery collaboration in the pipeline, most of her time is devoted to being a mother of two. In her spare time, Julia writes her blog, Less Is More, a space dedicated to the art of shopping less but better, and making the most of the pieces you already own.

Unsurprisingly, Julia's wardrobe features a lot of black, much like her mother's. She credits attending one of the few schools in Paris with a white and grey uniform as having a lasting influence on her now-muted colour palette.

While most of her days are spent wearing jeans and comfortable shoes to navigate the London Underground and keep up with her young son, her wardrobe still includes her trademark black stilettos and a black pencil skirt with thigh slit. Even her idea of "comfortable shoes" includes a pair of Maison Margiela kitten heels and her favourite sixties-inspired Mary Janes from French label Carel, which she owns in several colours. If there is one consistent theme to Julia's approach to dressing, it's this: when something works, buy it again. She even admits to owning the same three-piece suit from The Frankie Shop in four different colours.

Although her wardrobe consists predominantly of black and white, unexpected accents of colour stand out, from a lilac Sleeper dress to a camouflage cargo jacket by Saint Laurent. Rather than chasing trends, Julia focuses on wearing pieces that suit her and stand the test of time—a philosophy reflected throughout her wardrobe.

Perhaps most surprising of all is Julia's admission that she isn't particularly interested in handbags. In fact, she'd happily leave the house with nothing more than her keys and phone. That doesn't mean, however, that she hasn't invested wisely in her collection. A common thread among her bags is timeless designer styles with subtle monograms. One of her best travel tips is using her Louis Vuitton clutch both as an evening bag and as a toiletries pouch when travelling, allowing her to pack surprisingly light. It's just one of the many practical tips she shares, including how she manages long-haul trips to Tokyo with nothing more than a carry-on suitcase.

When I met Julia for the first time to film her episode of Anatomy of a Wardrobe, it quickly became clear that her approach to style is every bit as considered as her wardrobe suggests. In an industry driven by trends and the constant pressure for newness, Julia takes a more measured approach, championing thoughtful purchases, timeless pieces and making the most of what she already owns—a philosophy that feels particularly relevant today.

If you’ve spotted one of your favourite influencers or celebrities wearing a jacket or faux-fur coat you loved this winter, chances are it was by British label Ducie London. Named after its founder and creative director, Ducie Keam-George, the contemporary outerwear brand—which began life as a stall on London’s Portobello Road Market—has quietly become a go-to for fashion insiders seeking elevated outerwear that feels anything but ordinary.

Before fashion, Ducie cut her teeth working as a talent manager at MTV. But it was a trip to India that proved catalytic, sparking a desire to create her own collections. Investing her savings in those early designs, she returned to London and launched a label initially focused on silk—think slips and camisoles synonymous with the indie sleaze aesthetic of the time.

It was only after transitioning into outerwear that the business truly began to take off, and she hasn’t slowed down since. Her days spent on a market stall on Portobello were crucial—not only in understanding what customers were looking for, but also in gaining the invaluable insight of watching them try on her pieces right in front of her.

Fast forward to 2026 and gone are the days when outerwear options were limited to classic biker jackets or practical puffers. Ducie’s ever-expanding collections span everything from peplum leather jackets (a personal favourite) to vintage-inspired faux-fur coats. So covetable are her designs that even Hollywood A-listers—including Kate Hudson and Hailey Bieber—have been spotted in the brand, often reaching out directly rather than the other way around.

Designing from her London studio, Ducie has an acute understanding of how to balance seasonal trends with timeless appeal—and, crucially, how to create pieces that truly flatter. No sooner has she released a viral jacket—most recently a shearling style worn by Alexa Chung, Hilary Duff and Chiara Ferragni—than she’s already working on what comes next.

While I would usually do my research ahead of an interview, Ducie remains something of an elusive figure. I was keen to hear how she styles her own designs, whether she wears outerwear by other brands, and which labels she turns to when putting together her own looks.

Within the fashion community, Bay Garnett is something of a legend. For those who may not immediately place the face to the name — yet count themselves as devoted fashion fans — her influence will almost certainly have been felt, knowingly or not. A stylist, author and passionate advocate for sustainability and thrifting, Garnett has long championed second-hand as not just an alternative, but an aesthetic.

One of her defining moments came when former British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Shulman commissioned her to style a shoot composed entirely of vintage clothing, photographed by the legendary Juergen Teller. Little did she know that the story would go on to produce one of the most instantly recognisable images in fashion history — and cement her status as the UK’s original thrift pioneer.

When I arrive at Bay’s west London home to discuss what clothes we'll be covering in our interview, she gently requests that we don’t dwell on that banana top — the piece that has become almost synonymous with her name. For those unfamiliar with the lore: Garnett discovered the now-infamous banana-print top in a second-hand shop for 5 dollars. When her friend Phoebe Philo spotted it in a shoot Garnett styled for Vogue, she asked to borrow it. Months later, the fruit motif appeared as inspiration in Philo’s collection for Chloé. While it’s understandable that Garnett may tire of retelling the story, it remains a compelling example of how second-hand fashion can ripple into the mainstream.

Fashion runs in her blood. Garnett began her career in New York, where her mother — who was awarded an OBE for services to literature — worked at both British and American Vogue and authored The Vogue Book of Fashion Photography. In 1997, Garnett co-launched the New York edition of cult anti-fashion magazine Cheap Date, originally founded in London by Kira Jolliffe. The publication earned them the moniker “thrift pioneers” and positioned Garnett as an early spokesperson for second-hand style. Contributors included Anita Pallenberg, Chloë Sevigny, Liv Tyler and Debbie Harry — women whose personal style embodied the undone glamour Garnett continues to reference today.

She was thrifting long before resale became a billion-pound industry, fuelled by platforms such as Vestiaire Collective, eBay and Vinted. Today, Garnett serves as Senior Independent Fashion Advisor at Oxfam, where she has led runway shows during London Fashion Week and launched the annual initiative Second Hand September. Garnett has also curated luxury pop-ups at Bicester and Selfridges — notably positioned beside a Prada concession — proving that pre-loved pieces can sit comfortably alongside high fashion.

Her personal style reflects her free-spirited sensibility. Low-slung, bohemian belts anchor her wardrobe; Hungarian embroidered silks, faded denim and louche tailoring complete the picture. There is an insouciance to the way she dresses — a refusal to overthink, even as every element is handpicked with love.

Her advice for uncovering second-hand treasures? Shop with intention. “Walking into a charity shop can feel overwhelming,” she explains, “so it helps to have something specific in mind.”

It was during lockdown in 2019 that athlete Marilyn Nwawulor-Kazemaks began documenting her outfits on Instagram. Unable to train or compete, the heptathlete and fashion lover was looking for a way to pass the time, so she took the leap. Fast forward six years and Marilyn is now one of the UK’s most influential fashion creators, known for her pared-back, minimalist aesthetic.

When I first started following Marilyn, I was instantly struck by how effortless she made every outfit look, and by her ability to make even the simplest everyday pieces feel elevated. Combining great jeans, standout tailoring and cosy knits, her wardrobe is largely built around her favourite high street brands. Her knack for making them look designer quickly garnered her a loyal following.

She regularly posts her favourite outfits from Massimo Dutti, COS and Zara, weaving in some of her most prized investment pieces, such as a camel Saint Laurent coat, The Row loafers, a Wardrobe NYC structured blazer and her most recent splurge: a black Hermès Kelly Pochette.

While Marilyn’s everyday style is something many of us follow daily, I was keen to discover what party dressing looks like within a minimalist wardrobe. When it comes to dressing up, you’ll rarely see Marilyn in anything that doesn’t work seamlessly with her everyday pieces. Mixing pencil skirts with elevated knits and draped blouses, it’s a sequin-free zone. Her carefully curated collection of tonal, versatile pieces transitions effortlessly from day to night—often finished simply with a pair of statement Saint Laurent heels.

In this episode of Anatomy of a Wardrobe, Marilyn invited me into her home and gave me a sneak peek into her festive wardrobe ahead of Christmas day.

Mariko Kuo is a London-based lawyer and content creator. Born in Japan, Mariko moved to London at 18 to study and has lived there ever since. She has always had a love of fashion, but when she started out as a junior lawyer, she felt the pressure to conform and wear very traditional versions of what workwear was thought to be.

She began sharing her outfits 10 years ago as she navigated the corporate world, gradually finding the confidence to dress in a way that reflected her personality and love of fashion. I first came across Mariko’s Instagram page a couple of years ago and was inspired by her unique ability to style workwear outfits that felt modern and unexpected, often accessorising with pieces many would only deem appropriate after dark.

Her signature style is a mixture of tailoring and timeless separates, combining sculpted blazers, mannish suits, effortless silk blouses, and pencil skirts that can be interchanged with ease. She pairs these with accessories that elevate even the simplest of outfits.

From a choosing Stella McCartney knitted coord with XL buttons worn as an alternative to a traditional suit, to carrying an additional Toteme pouch in her Demellier tote bag, and investing in a colourful Loewe cardholder for her security pass—a formal dress code, doesn't stop Mariko from having fun with her outfits.

I was given exclusive access to her work wardrobe and got to hear all of Mariko’s top tips for building a workwear wardrobe you love. Most importantly, her advice helps you not only own the room, but also be your most authentic self—even in the boardroom.

Racil Chalhoub is a Lebanese-born designer based in London. She was born in Beirut and raised in Paris before moving to London to study fashion design and marketing. Her multicultural upbringing — Lebanese roots, French savoir-faire, and a British base — gives her a distinctive perspective. Her personal style is adventurous, but her day-to-day look is relatively casual, always starting with a base of jeans and a t-shirt, layered with an impeccably tailored blazer and statement shoes.

Her brand name, RACIL, is an homage to her mother — the designer is named after her and credits her mother’s style as an early influence. Having a stylish mother has its benefits, and Racil regularly accepts hand-me-downs, including a beautiful emerald-green Chanel jacket. Her mother always encouraged her to dress for herself and not to follow trends for the sake of it, something she says has paid off, meaning she has a wardrobe (or room, as she showed me) brimming with feel-good, future classics.

I first met Racil in 2016, the year after she launched her label, RACIL, and I have always been impressed by her innate elegance and refined way of wearing colour. The brand began with a capsule collection of tuxedos re-imagined for women. “I couldn’t find the perfect tuxedo … so I made one,” Racil said in her apartment when we started filming. Her brand immediately filled a gap in the market: the famed “Le Smoking” jacket, reinterpreted with a feminine edge and offered in a variety of colours and fabrics. One standout piece — a beautiful cream wool version finished with silver pinstripe thread — remains one of her favourite designs.

She describes her brand as 'somewhere between advanced contemporary and modern luxury'. Over time, her label evolved beyond tuxedos into ready-to-wear pieces, including beautiful vintage-inspired dresses, separates, and accessories, and even featured a collaboration with bag designer Olympia Le-Tan. Her signature Jackie dress was born out of her need for something to wear while hosting at home during the pandemic, and it is now available in a rainbow of shades. The brand’s foundation remains rooted in strong tailoring and effortless pieces that can be worn on vacation or at home, allowing women to move fluidly from day to night — from desk to dance floor — without losing their identity.

Leila Kashanipour is a jewellery designer and content creator. We first met over 15 years ago, when she was launching her own jewellery line, LeiVanKash. Today, she consults for jewellery brands and creates small, one-off capsule collections, leveraging her growing community of followers to drive sales. When she isn’t designing, she’s hosting events for brands like Chanel and Harvey Nichols, bringing her vibrant community of women together to celebrate new brand launches. While the word influencer is rarely used anymore, it still conveys the agency that women like Leila possess. After all, they can see what their followers are buying in real time—and, most importantly, they can drive sales.

Leila’s love of accessories has always been apparent. Whether she’s styling a casual everyday look or dressing up for an event, she effortlessly combines bohemian influences (she is of Iranian heritage) with colour, embellishment, and rich textures like suede and leather—all finished with her signature polish.

Even when styling the simplest of pieces, such as a black dress, Leila always adds her own spin—perhaps a belt, jewellery, a hat, or a pair of embellished sandals. She doesn’t follow trends; instead, she creates looks she loves, using pieces in her wardrobe that bring her joy.

By day, she’s often seen in a pair of Mother jeans, a tailored jacket, and an Hermès scarf. Her go-to brands include Liberowe, Saint Laurent, and Veronica Beard, and she has a keen eye for spotting great high street finds too—picking up pieces from Zara and Sézane. What sets her apart from other content creators is her love of jewellery—layering fine pieces with strands of beads collected on her travels. By night, Leila might wear a dress styled with a turban and statement earrings, or a beautifully tailored suit paired with her favourite heels and a standout bag.

Her audience appreciates her eye for detail, and her passion for design means they trust her to only share items she would genuinely buy herself. Everything Leila wears is carefully considered, and when making any big purchases, she always sleeps on it—making sure it’s something she truly loves.

Tabitha Simmons is one of the biggest names in fashion. She began her career as a model while studying design at Kingston University, but quickly transitioned into styling, rising through the ranks at Dazed & Confused and Vogue. She has styled campaigns and shows for some of the world’s biggest fashion houses, including Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, and, most recently, Erdem. Tabitha is quietly brilliant despite having won both the British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent in Accessories in 2011 and the CFDA Swarovski Award for Accessory Design in 2012. With many strings to her bow, in 2020 Tabitha was also appointed Creative Director of the luxury leather goods house Tanner Krolle, where she reimagined the brand’s heritage pieces with a modern twist.

Balancing multiple creative roles, Tabitha remains one of the most influential names in fashion. When she isn’t at her home in the Cotswolds, she’s usually living out of a suitcase. I managed to pin her down — in between shooting in Paris and before heading back to the U.S. — and here, she talks me through her style, her go-to everyday outfit, and how she can’t stop wearing her latest shoe designs. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing many designers and founders over the years, but I’ve yet to meet anyone as driven as Fisayo Longe. As the founder of the independent clothing label Kai Collective, Fisayo has spent the past decade building a highly profitable and sustainable brand—one she not only leads but embodies.

The secret to her success isn’t just designing great clothes — it’s her ability to cultivate a deeply engaged community. I first discovered Kai Collective on Instagram and was immediately curious about the founder behind this seemingly small brand. I quickly became intrigued by Fisayo, who regularly shared images of samples and her designs in production. By including her customers in the design process, she has been able to gather instant feedback from them, which has helped create many sell-out piece to date.

Her bold, eclectic style has earned her a fiercely loyal following. With designers like Miu Miu, Schiaparelli, Dries Van Noten, and Jacquemus in her wardrobe, watching Fisayo shop is truly one of my favourite pastimes.

But her love for fashion goes far beyond aesthetics. A true maximalist, Fisayo embraces color, texture, and storytelling through clothes. She understands the power of fashion—not just how it looks, but how it makes you feel. Her designs are crafted with intention: to give women confidence and that unmistakable main character energy when they walk into a room.

Despite owning a dream wardrobe filled with coveted designer pieces, when I asked Fisayo which item she treasures most, her answer surprised me—and reminded me exactly why she’s achieved the success she unapologetically enjoys now.

Tiffany Hsu is arguably one of the most important women in fashion right now. She is Chief Buying Officer for Mytheresa, one of the leading luxury multi-brand retailers in the world, and in her role she is responsible for overseeing all of womenswear, kids wear and lifestyle products. If anyone knows which Spring/Summer 2025 trends to invest in - it's Tiffany.

Tiffany’s outfits are what street style photographers live for which is why that are captured without fail, every season, when she attends fashion shows and buying appointments around the world. Her style strikes the perfect balance between polished and eclectic. A self-confessed magpie, she gravitates toward bold, statement pieces, loves colour but rarely wears prints, and never wears flats. With access to the world’s most coveted brands, she admits she rarely shops on the high street but still turns to COS or Uniqlo for quality basics. A casual day for Tiffany might mean a (very stylish) tracksuit—think Magda Butrym—and even on nursery drop-offs, she opts for a heel, citing flatform UGGs or chunky-soled Prada loafers as her favourites.

When asked about her most treasured wardrobe piece, she reveals a butter-yellow Phoebe Philo for Celine leather cape coat—so precious she has never worn it for fear of damaging it, instead keeping it carefully stored away.

Candice Brathwaite is a critically acclaimed author, journalist, and presenter. If you’re not already one of her 300K+ followers on Instagram, you’re truly missing out. Renowned for her upbeat GRWM videos that effortlessly blend important messages about body positivity and racial representation, Candice’s latest achievement is her book Manifest - a practical guide to unlocking the life you deserve, including the wardrobe of your dreams.

It’s safe to say that Candice has one of the most coveted wardrobes in Britain, so you can imagine my excitement at being invited for a tour. Her outfits are colourful and fabulous; they would inspire even the most devoted monochrome dressers to step out of their all-black uniform. Walking into Candice’s dressing room, it’s immediately clear how much she loves clothes. Case in point: she’s currently wearing an H&M corset paired with Abercrombie & Fitch jeans.

Candice is discerning in her choices, emphasising that she only buys items she knows she’ll still love three years from now. She rarely buys anything in season - after all, why would you when you live less than 30 minutes from one of the largest designer outlets in the world? A seasoned shopper, she eagerly shares her insider tips for discovering the best finds online and at designer outlets. As she walks me through her rail, she admits to curating a Pinterest board filled with pieces she loves, patiently manifesting them into her wardrobe over time. Her top tip when shopping IRL at a designer outlet? Always ask the sales assistant if they have additional pieces in the stockroom - that’s how she stumbled upon her Oscar De La Renta wedding dress, a gem saved from heading to landfill.

There’s so much to talk about that I momentarily forget we still have an entire wall of shoes and bags to explore. From everyday trainers to occasion heels, there isn’t a single boring pair in sight. Novelty designs are a recurring theme across both shoes and bags - and even a classic black Chanel 2.55 handbag comes with its own story. Among the highlights are J.W. Anderson’s pigeon clutch and a crystal-encrusted miniature NYC taxi bag, which she patiently waited two years to purchase after it went out of stock. She reminds me that dressing up should always be fun and that building the confidence to wear such statement pieces has been a gradual journey.

She tells me her followers have been eagerly awaiting a wardrobe tour for some time, and I can confidently say it will most definitely have been worth the wait!

I first discovered Mija Knežević on instagram last year and was instantly hooked by her polished everyday style and her seemingly timeless way of wearing colour.

Originally from Montenegro, Mija has lived all over the world, moving from Switzerland to New York, and now London - where she calls home. Mija is a content creator and brand consultant who began documenting her style on her blog, Mijaporter, in 2008 while studying at New York University. Her wardrobe is a myriad of contradictions. Its bold yet muted, statement yet timeless, eclectic yet thoughtfully curated - and believe it or not I spotted a pattern. Statement coats, silk mannish shirts and statement accessories are her staples - and if you're looking for a plain black coat or The Row's minimalist Park tote, you've come to the wrong place. Vibrant pieces by Celine, Khaite, Prada and Courrèges fill the rail, and whilst these designs typically come with a high price tag, Mija is a seasoned and savvy shopper.

There is an overarching theme where comfort meets power dressing and for meetings Cora’s go-to is a black tuxedo jacket and colour-block suits. A tight colour palette of black, red and pink means getting dressed in the morning requires minimal planning and she adds print to her looks with statement outerwear such as her favourite snake print coat from Topshop that she picked up for £30 and a limited edition Palace X Barbour camouflage jacket.

Something you will never see Cora without is her signature Miu Miu sunglasses and the jewellery adorning her hands - rings and bracelets crafted by her best friend, Ellie Mercer. As for bags and shoes, Cora's busy lifestyle means her go-to footwear includes black Prada sling backs and Maison Martin Margiela Tabby shoes. When it comes to handbags, vintage pieces are her favourite. She recently added a rare 1940s Hermes Kelly bag to her collection, along with a PVC Louis Vuitton tote, which she uses exclusively as a beach bag.

Having seen snippets of Cora's walk-in-wardrobe on instagram, featuring leopard print carpet and pink satin curtains, I couldn't wait to get an exclusive tour and hear all about her style.
