Jeans and a nice top has long been the two-piece cornerstone of many a hard-working wardrobe. Its versatility is endless, after all, and it shifts seamlessly with the trends. But it may not always be the most summer-appropriate option when temperatures soar, or you're packing for a holiday. This summer's alternative? A tunic and trouser. It really is that simple. And the chicest women are using it as the foundation of their European holiday wardrobes, their off-duty looks and their office dressing alike—although the most appealing element is how easily it adapts to any personal style.

A tunic refers to a loose-fitting top, usually cut straight from top to bottom, that's longer than your usual T-shirt. Think anything from waist to ankle length. And yes, a dress of a similar fit works just as well. Essentially, the long-loved '00s concept of wearing dresses over jeans is being revived yet again in a different way, minus the denim.

So you might find a tunic that more closely resembles a shirt, a vest top or even a dress, depending on the occasion you're dressing for. And while any trouser cut works, I'd steer towards a barrel-leg, balloon or wide-cut style to make the whole thing feel far more current. I've been contending with acne for most of my life, which has led me to discover the exact skincare that I can trust not to cause breakouts. That includes SPF for acne—because a product that I use on my face daily has to be one that my complexion agrees with. Best everyday formula

La Roche-Posay almost single-handedly saw me through my severely acne-riddled teenage years, and it was the first brand that made a noticeable difference to my breakouts and complexion. I've trusted the products for years, and this SPF is one of my top picks for anyone acne-prone. It's designed for oily skin types, including skin prone to blemishes and sensitivity, with a mattifying effect that will prevent shininess throughout the day. It has a very watery, milky formula that turns invisible on the skin and feels weightless too. Despite being matte, it doesn't feel at all drying or chalky on the skin, and it provides a smoothing base for makeup application on top. It's a true all-rounder for acne-prone skin with impressive SPF 50.

Best oil control

SkinCeuticals has slowly but surely become one of my holy grail brands. Yes, the products are on the pricier side, but I've yet to encounter one that isn't worth every penny. This SPF has a thicker formula more like a mineral sunscreen, but it's still extremely easy to blend in and it doesn't leave a white cast. It feels more matte than the La-Roche Posay SPF, both to apply and on the skin, but it still sits comfortably and doesn't dry me out even though my skin isn't excessively oily. It works wonders at keeping shine at bay, and it's perfect for humid weather and preventing makeup from sliding around on the face. If you have particularly oily acne-prone skin, this will make a very noticeable difference to your complexion.

Most affordable

Although this SPF is designed with oily skin in mind, it's also suitable for normal skin and isn't excessively mattifying. It has a smooth, milky formula that's lightweight, breathable, and fast-absorbing for an invisible finish that primes the skin for makeup. One of my favourite things about this SPF is that it contains niacinamide, which has always worked brilliantly for preventing breakouts in my skin. It keeps oil to a minimum all day and won't clog pores either.

Most hydrating

Another SPF containing niacinamide, Aesop's lotion formula is both hydrating and nourishing. It's my top recommendation if your skin needs some TLC due to any tightness or discomfort, particularly if you apply any drying nighttime skincare for spots. It functions just like a regular day moisturiser with the addition of sun protection, but it doesn't leave the skin greasy or shiny. NB: this SPF isn't fragrance-free, so if you don't respond well to fragrance, you may want to try another formula. However, it has never caused me to break out or have any irritation.

Best for severe acne

If you have very acne-prone skin that needs a lot of care and attention, Dr Sam's Daily Sunscreen is a foolproof option. It's specifically designed for blemish-prone skin, with a soft-focus primer-like finish that applies like a moisturiser. It's fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and formulated with niacinamide to brighten and boost the skin. It's an extremely minimalist SPF suitable for all skin types, and it perfectly balances sun protection with a comfortable feel that provides a skin-like finish with no added shine. It's a true all-rounder that will work for anyone with acne-prone skin.

Best SPF primer

For my skin, I've found that less is more—particularly in the daytime. The best way to keep my acne at bay is not going overboard under my makeup, and Charlotte Tilbury's SPF 50 primer offers exactly that. It kills two birds with one stone with priming and sun protection, as well as providing pollution defence to further halt skin stressors that can cause breakouts. It has a very subtle tint that leaves the skin with a beautiful glow and a weightless feel that's comfortable on the face. It also hydrates without a shiny finish, which makes for smooth makeup application.

Best lightweight SPF

The clue is in the name with Beauty Pie's SPF 50: it's a truly invisible, lightweight, watery formula that blends in with minimal effort. I've used it for years, and it has never failed me or caused blemishes. It's completely non-greasy and also acts as a primer, so you can expect a skin-like finish with natural radiance and no shine. The advanced UV filters also work to fight sunlight-induced inflammation, which can make red, painful breakouts less troublesome. With no white cast, it's suitable for all skin tones and requires minimal blending to sink in.

We've all been there: reaching into the swimwear drawer only to pull out something crunchy, see-through or three sizes bigger than it was last summer. Not the best start to a holiday. Though not every swimwear piece meets this fate at the same speed. And as the chicly dressed women at Türkiye's luxury D Resort Göçek made abundantly clear during my recent Euro Summer sojourn, investment swimwear really does pay off in the long run. I watched these women swim in from superyachts, so can confirm they know exactly what they're talking about.

Price alone, however, isn't the only indicator of longevity—though I've found it to be a fairly reliable one. What we're really looking for is thicker fabric, double-lined designs (which also solves the see-through problem) and colourways less prone to fading or staining. And there's no shortage of beautiful swimsuits and bikinis up to the task.

Hunza G—mine is four years old and going strong—Vix Paula Hermanny and Calvin Klein are just a handful of tried and tested swimwear brands that genuinely last far beyond a single summer.

Though, how quickly swimwear fades is also influenced by how we care for it. Chlorine, saltwater, sunscreen and sweat can all fade and alter the colour of swimwear, so rinsing pieces through at the end of each day is always wise. A cool rinse in the sink with a touch of mild detergent will do it—on holiday, I opt for hand soap or shampoo—and after a few uses, a 30-minute soak before lying flat to dry makes a real difference. If the washing machine is non-negotiable, a handwash or delicates cycle on a cool setting will keep things clean without causing damage.

In the midst of these heatwaves, I want my skin to be as protected from UV rays as possible. That's why I love a multi-tasking foundation with SPF that can provide an extra barrier when I'll be spending several hours in the sun.

However, it's important to understand that SPF in foundation may not always be as effective as a regular SPF. That's primarily because we don't tend to apply nearly as thick a layer of foundation as we do sunscreen, meaning your skin won't be quite as protected. That's why I like to apply a lightweight SPF or SPF for under makeup underneath my foundation, so I can be sure my skin is fully prepped for the weather.

But when it comes to the winter months and the UV index is much lower, I often opt for one of these formulas alone for their 2-in-1 appeal. Each one of these base products not only layers well with my daily skincare, but sits comfortably in sweaty weather. Best foundations with SPF, tried & tested

I will never stop raving about the Beauty Of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid. Despite being tinted and offering the right amount of coverage to combat redness and uneven skin tone, it's actually a sunscreen first and a foundation second—meaning it really will protect the skin. It has a very watery consistency that blends like a dream, and it gives a hydrating boost that offers radiance too. I have a few acne scars to contend with, and it covers them beautifully and doesn't melt away in the heat. For me, it's the ideal everyday formula that feels weightless but really does even the skin and give a healthy, natural glow.

If you're on the hunt for a full coverage foundation with a high SPF, I've yet to find a formula better than RMS. It covers virtually all of my blemishes and discolouration, providing a blurring effect across the skin—with the addition of SPF 50. A little of this goes a long way, so it's one I like to layer with a regular sunscreen. Despite its high coverage, it doesn't feel thick or uncomfortable on the skin, instead acting more like a thicker tinted moisturiser. Containing a blend of niacinamide, marigold flower extract, jojoba seed oil and ashwagandha, it also smooths the skin, controls excess oils, and promotes radiance. A true all-rounder for the summer months.

I'm yet to encounter a base product more waterproof than this. Whether you're jumping in and out of the pool or need something to contend with sweat, Shiseido's Sports BB won't budge. Despite being lightweight, it offers impressive coverage that eradicates my need for concealer, and it's easy to blend with a brush or just with your hands. It has a fairly matte finish, but it also provides some radiance that keeps the skin fresh and healthy. With high SPF 50 and a quick-drying finish, it's my favourite to take on holiday when I want one base product that can do it all.

Mineral sunscreens are some of the best at protecting the skin because they get to work instantly—no sinking in time required. Merit's The Uniform is one of the very best mineral formulas that offers foundation-like coverage too. Although it's billed as a sheer coverage product, I find that it does a brilliant job at covering redness and uneven skin tone, even when I'm having a few breakouts. It's another base product that feels comfortable and light on the skin thanks to how easily it blends, and it has a gorgeous skin-like finish that is neither too matte nor too shiny. Plus, it's non-comedogenic and oil-free, making it suitable for acne-prone skin too.

A skincare-makeup hybrid, Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser with SPF 30 is one of my most worn base products of all time. Although it promises sheer-light coverage, it's another one that works brilliantly at evening skin tone and masking darker spots—and the formula is buildable, so you can get more coverage if you need it. But my favourite thing about it is how hydrating it is, leaving the skin perfectly dewy and luminous. It's completely weightless, but works to soothe the skin which is a welcome treat in hot weather. It never clings to or accentuates any drier patches, and it stays put throughout the day.

Powder foundations seem to have fallen out of favour in recent years, but I'm here to tell you that they should not be dismissed. I've been using this bareMinerals formula since I was a teenager, and I'm always pleasantly surprised by the coverage and finish. You might expect it to give a dull, matte look, but it's extremely radiant and blurring with a skin-like appearance. Most unexpectedly, it has incredible coverage that conceals even angry red blemishes—perhaps better than some liquid formulas. It works wonders for oily skin, but the breathable formula means it suits normal and combination skin too. It's a mineral SPF 15, so I recommend layering it with a higher SPF in the summer for optimum protection.

I'm yet to try an Hourglass product that I don't get along with, and this is one of the best foundations with SPF if you want radiance, coverage, and protection. It has a slightly tackier formula than other liquid foundations straight out of the tube, but it blends like butter and gives medium coverage that doesn't crease or transfer—essential in hot weather. It also benefits the skin as you wear it; as well as SPF 30, it uses Advanced Hydra-Smoothing Technology (a blend of hyaluronic microspheres) to lock in moisture while visibly improving skin texture. A lighter layer is ideal for daytime wear, but I also love it for building coverage for full glam occasions. The result is a truly flawless, glowy finish with zero cakiness.

An overstuffed suitcase is a recipe for holiday disaster (seriously, excess baggage charges really kill the vibe). But what if we told you there is a way to make packing a cinch—and that all you need to do, besides nailing the basics, is prioritise a category that's overlooked? Mejuri's latest collection is based around "jewelry [that] becomes part of you: a chain warmed at your collarbone after a swim, a ring catching sunlight with every movement, a charm tied to your favorite memory." If that sounds blissful, the brand's pendant necklaces—decorated with beach-combed crabs, shells, starfish or pebbles—deserve a place in your packable jewellery pouch.

Frequent travellers (and tastemakers) have long been on first-name terms with the "accessorise more" ethos when abroad. Laura Vidrequin often pairs a flotsum-and-jetsum necklace with her whisper-fine cotton kaftans and straw baskets while holidaying. Bettina Looney, meanwhile, opts for shell pendants, whether they're strung on a fine silver chain or a length of cord.

A flip-flop used to be your best ally for a beach trip but not a serious proposition for most other settings, especially the office. That was then. Now, the flip-flop has emerged as such a dominant style of sandal that it's an umbrella term—one that contains a multitude of micro trends, although they all still have the signature two straps joined between the big and second toe. Jelly heels might be this summer's biggest (and most surprising) shoe trend, but the flip-flop version—with a pleasingly flat sole—has been hot property for the past few summers, and shows no sign of sloping off. Christopher Esber's candy-coloured flip-flops are selling fast (and selling out) on Net-a-Porter, while Ancient Greek Sandals, who does jelly as well as it does leather, has primary-coloured jellies that will jazz up any summer outfit.

It's hard to name a more iconic shoe, never mind flip-flop, than Brazil's Havaianas. The classic rubber flip-flop is the only off-duty sandal you need in summer; an all-rounder that will pair with swimwear as well as something more sultry come evening. There are other brands to consider in the world of rubber flip-flops, however, including Sleepers, which also has tapered soles, and the exuberant shades offered by Brizza Arezzo.

The Row's Ginza helped to create an entirely new genre of flip-flop: leather. M&S had their own sell-out version of the polished flip-flop—and, now, contemporary brands have put their own spin on the sleek and super-minimal sandal that is more than office-appropriate.

If you're going to be doing serious mileage, a sandal designed to support a high step count is going to be a priority. Luckily, several footwear brands known for their tech-first approach have flip-flops that are stylish and serious about comfort like FitFlop and Archies.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a thick, chalky facial sunscreen. Not only do they feel uncomfortable on the skin, but they can also make makeup application a nightmare. That's why I've made it my mission to find lightweight facial SPFs that offer brilliant protection but are invisible on the skin and sink in effortlessly. After some serious testing, I've finally discovered formulas I can wear daily that leave no trace.

Although I love an SPF moisturiser, it doesn't always offer enough protection in the summer months. Not to mention, they don't tend to have any water-resistant properties to contend with swimming or sweat.

Best lightweight facial SPFs 2026

The Augustinus Bader sunscreen is one of the Marie Claire team's all-time favourites, and it's still one of my most used SPFs over a year after its launch. There's so much to love about this formula, from its patented healing Trigger Factor Complex (TFC8®) that enhances the skin to its beautifully hydrating finish that leaves the skin with a natural glow—no greasiness whatsoever. The high SPF 50 protects you even on the sunniest of days, and it helps minimise the appearance of fine lines, dullness and age spots whilst you wear it. It has a moisturiser-like finish with a creamy feel, and it sinks in almost immediately with an invisible finish. Yes, it's on the pricey side, but considering the wonders it does for your skin, I think it's more than worth it.

Not only is CeraVe's Invisible Hydrating Fluid Sunscreen one of the most affordable on the market, but it boasts a milky formula with zero white cast. Infused with three essential ceramides, it helps to hydrate the skin for a radiant, plumped appearance, and it nourishes your moisture barrier too. It has a subtly dewy finish that layers very nicely with makeup, but it doesn't get shiny or oily throughout the day. I'm a big fan of the squeezy packaging for easy application, and it's suitable for all skin types and colours. If you have problematic skin and want a fragrance-free formula that won't trigger breakouts, this is a brilliant option.

I'm a sucker for a milky SPF, but not all lightweight sunscreens fall into that category. A milky formula tends to be both light and extra hydrating, ideal for dry or dehydrated skin types that need a nourishing boost. Tatcha's newest SPF does exactly that, leaving a dewy finish that makes the skin naturally glowy. I love how undetectable this sunscreen is, as well as how well it instantly soothes tight skin thanks to vitamin E and encapsulated ectoin. You can expect zero white cast and day-long hydration that keeps you protected from UV rays.

More like a tinted serum than a traditional SPF, La Roche Posay's Anthelios UVAIR formula has a thicker finish than other lightweight facial sunscreens. However, it blends in within seconds and sinks right into the skin for comfortable wear with a natural finish. It's more on the matte side, offering a skin-like appearance with concealing and blurring properties. It doesn't provide full coverage in the way a foundation would, but it definitely reduces my redness and makes any dark spots or discolouration much less noticeable. It's my top pick if you want a your-skin-but-better look with UV protection, and the finish lasts up to 16 hours to contend with the summer heat. I'm wearing shade light, and it hardly took any blending with my hands to get a natural look.

The beauty of an SPF mist is how versatile it is; wear under or over makeup without disturbing your products, and use it to top up throughout the day too. Garnier's formula is as close to weightless as it gets, whilst still providing SPF 50 to keep your skin protected. The addition of vitamin C helps to lighten dark spots on the face and add some glow, and the mist itself disappears almost instantly after spraying. The only downside is that it doesn't last as long as liquid formulas, but the budget-friendly price tag makes it more than worth it.

It's no secret that sun exposure can make dark spots and hyperpigmentation worse, so a formula that protects from UV rays and addresses these skin concerns is a winner in my book. Ranavat's mineral formula offers instant SPF 50 protection, as well as saffron to brighten and squalane to moisturise skin and strengthen the skin barrier. It's light and dewy when squeezed out, and feels significantly lighter and smoother than other mineral sunscreens that tend to be thicker. I love it as an even base for applying makeup with no slipperiness, and the added skincare benefits make it a 2-in-1 product in my daily routine.

If I'm on holiday, I rarely go a full hour without jumping in the pool or sea—so a water-resistant SPF is essential. But even when I'm at home, a London heatwave also calls for UV protection that I won't sweat off. The Dr. Dennis Gross All Physical Ultimate Defense SPF 50 is both water and sweat-resistant for long lasting protection, but it's another sunscreen that has a hydrating and milky formula. The finish is very subtly dewy without oiliness, and it has both a pump and squeezy tube so you can get every last drop. Another huge plus is that it's fragrance-free, so won't irritate sensitive or acne-prone skin.

This SPF was the first Beauty of Joseon product I fell in love with, and you can see from my almost-empty tube that it's been well loved. It sits somewhere between a milk and a cream, so it's extremely light as well as nourishing and hydrating. It's completely non-greasy and suitable for all skin types thanks to the gentle formula, and it's one of my favourites for wearing under makeup. It provides a hydrated base without any chalkiness whatsoever, acting like a gorgeous primer. Plus, it's ridiculously affordable for SPF 50.

Be honest, did you actually invest in the novelty bag trend last summer? No? Well, if a giant slice of pizza, a milk bottle or a plastic pigeon didn't make it into your real-life wardrobe—and I'm a fan, for the record, but I understand the trepidation—this season's take on the statement bag may feel more approachable.

Think, less shapes you'd find at the back of the fridge, more fringing, bold colours and prints that make even the simplest look feel more fitting for summer.

These new novelty bags also span a whole spectrum of statement-making comfort zones. On the more maximalist end, starfish and fish shapes—Simon Miller and Serpui make particularly beautiful versions—sit alongside Chloé's almost sold-out toucan, replacing last year's bestselling banana handle.

While the slightly safer side sees bold stripes, fun fringing and, more often than not, the merging of both in still-statement yet considerably more practical territory. Fendi, Aquazzura and Anya Hindmarch are just a handful of luxury labels leaning into the look, and they're being picked up by some of the best-dressed women on the internet as one easy way to liven up any outfit.

A simple black maxi dress, denim shorts and a white shirt, or a bikini and cover-up all look considerably more interesting with a rainbow raffia swinging from your arm, after all.

Jelly and ice cream, Jellycat toys, even jellied eels—jelly is the prefix of many a beloved item, and fashion has just added another to the list: jelly heels.

Following the wider jelly shoe trend that took over the feet of the coolest dressers last summer—their origins traceable back through the 80s, 90s and early 00s—the jelly heel is a more refined, sophisticated take on the classic plastic pump or flip flop. Still injecting a good deal of fun into any outfit, naturally. But now, luxury labels are leading the charge.

The launch currently garnering the most attention? Jimmy Choo's Jelly Drop 50—a sporty, retro-inspired jelly heeled sandal worthy of any Y2K Pinterest board. The glitter style, especially. Barbara Palvin just stepped out in a pair in Cannes and I haven't gone a day without seeing them on my Instagram feed since.

Then there's the Chloé Ruched TPU Mule, plucked straight from the label's Spring/Summer 26 runway, which counts Iris Law, Tessa Thompson and a considerable number of other well-dressed women among its fans. Farm Rio's jelly heel strappy sandal feels even more eye-catching. And Tory Burch's heeled flip flop has been given a very welcome jellified upgrade. All furthering my point: jelly heels are having a huge moment.

Though each one is considerably more polished than the chunky plastic gladiators that last summer gave way to—and the styling has followed suit accordingly. Midi skirts and vest tops, capri pants and shirts, a failsafe jeans-and-T-shirt combination. The more pared-back the outfit, the further the jelly heels will go to add interest.
