The Best MAC Collections Of All Time

We’ve collected more MAC limited editions than we can count over years. There have been some incredible celebrity/character hook-ups and – while it was a tough process – we’ve rounded-up the best.

Hi, we're the Marie Claire Beauty Desk and we're MAC addicts. That's totally what we would say if there was a support group for MAC make-up collectors - which there should be, FYI.

Naturally our make-up bags are pretty full and if we're honest, at least half of that stash is MAC. Face and Body Foundation, Strobe Cream, Cream Color Bases and Retro Matte Lipsticks really take some beating.

But, we're not content with stockpiling MAC's 'regular' stuff, no, we're pretty avid hoarders of past MAC limited edition collections.

Our MAC bounty includes an Alexander McQueen Mineralize Skinfinish in New Vegas from 2007, Maleficent Loves First Kiss lipstick from 2014, Carine Roitfeld Jungle Camouflage palette from 2012 and Wonder Woman everything from 2011 (the best collection by far in our books).

Typically you feel pretty special if you manage to get your paws on a MAC limited edition because those babies sell out and you'll lucky if you can pick up a few scraps on eBay.

There have been some incredible collaborations in the past. Remember the Barbie collection? Epic. And there wasn't a single item in the Venomous Villains set that we didn't lust after.

Everyone who's anyone wants to put their name to a MAC item. Fashion stylist Isabella Blow had the opportunity to bring her signature red lippie to life in 2005. We're desperate to get our hands on one of those.

Designer Jeremy Scott was next in line to launch a MAC Lipstick which he gave away during the premiere of his documentary 'Jeremy Scott: The People's Designer' during New York Fashion Week. MAC have been behind the make-up at his shows since 2010 so a creative collaboration is fitting. It's not for sale so it truly is a collectors item.

Charlotte Olympia is up next for a MAC collaboration due to launch in spring 2016. We're imagining a lot of retro loveliness.

There was plenty of choice (almost too much) but we've managed to narrow down what we think are the best MAC collaborations of all time.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

2011 - Superheroes never go out of fashion. The MAC Wonder Woman collection was bold and beautiful with red, white, blue and gold pigments, a super-sized Mineralize Skin Finish and Lipglass and jumbo mascara and eyeliner. The most covetable items came in the form of blue and gold make-up brushes and metallic wash bags. Dreamy.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Rocky Horror Picture Show

2014 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrated its fortieth year with a collaboration with MAC. The iconic lips were sprawled across all the packaging and the powders, pigments and lippies were beyond bold. Frank-n-Furter would be proud.

RiRi Hearts MAC

RiRi Hearts MAC

Rihanna

2013 - Rihanna has been heavily involved with MAC over the last couple of years. She re-designed the iconic Ruby Woo into RiRi Woo - a punchier red that suits darker skin tones - and it sold out within hours and she's starred as the face of their charity focused Viva Glam campaigns. Rihanna's fall 2013 collection is still a favourite of ours; the neutral eye palette and duo blush/bronzer rock our world.

Maleficent

Maleficent

2014 - Angelina Jolie's turn as Maleficent had us wanting to be a horned demon for the first time in our lives. The collection was as gothicly dark as you would expect with blood red lips and nails. We still wear True Love's Kiss a rich red lipstick and there's even a subtle sculpting powder and Prep + Prime Highlighter should you fancy crafting some Maleficent-esq killer cheekbones.

Barbie

Barbie

2007 - Long before Moschino's Jeremy Scott got his hands on Barbie, MAC launched a Barbie collection that we were desperate to get our hands on. Naturally there where sugary pink lipglosses and lipsticks and pastel powders and highlights.

Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields

2014 - You would expect a make-up collaboration with Brooke Shields to be all about the brows. Well, think again. The Brooke Shield?s MAC collection was all about a punchy orange lipstick, creamy cheek colours, and the most gorgeous Gravitas Eyeshadow Palette with 15 very wearable but very chic eye shadows. The grey and orange packaging was pretty incredible too.

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler

2014 - The packaging for the MAC and Proenza Schouler collaboration blew our minds. The limited edition collection included gorgeously bright ombre powder palettes, vibrant nail lacquers, lipsticks and eye and lip pencils were instant collectibles.

Carine Roitfeld

Carine Roitfeld

2012 - The MAC and Carine Roitfeld collaboration hit all the right spots and delivered the perfect products and shades to re-create Carine's signature, smudgy smoky eye. We still obsessed with the Jungle Camouflage palette.

The Simpsons

2014 - Who would have thought that Marge Simpson would become a beauty icon? The MAC/Simpsons collab had some surprisingly wearable pieces including two bright and poppy powder blushes and soft lashes.

Good Luck Trolls

2016 - MAC is launching its newest collection 'Good Luck Trolls' to celebrate the upcoming Trolls movie, starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. We all remember the 90s trend and have had a little place in our hearts for ugly little dolls with bubblegum hair ever since. Unsurprisingly the collection promises bright colours, from yellow lipsticks to blue lip glosses, with some tinted hair spray thrown in for good measure. The collection is launching online on the 28th July.

Soft Serve Ice cream

2016 - MAC are welcoming in the summer months with their new ice cream themed collection: Soft Serve. Made up of 12 eye shadow creams and six eyebrow pencils (all in pastel ice cream shades), the collection will be available online from May 26 and in MAC stores from this June - making you look as delicious as a cone of mint choc chip!
