Good that you mention Bordeaux, which has become much more open to wine tourism these days. Do plan ahead - you have to make an appointment to visit many châteaux and the very top ones require appointments weeks in advance. However, just go off the beaten track a little and you will find excellent visits at some of the smaller properties in areas such as Bourg or Blaye.
