Forget everything you've ever heard about Gran Canaria, park your reservations about package holidays and Brits abroad and instead dig out a copy of Wallpaper* magazine, brush up on your latest New World wines, pack your McQueen for Smythson suitcase and make your way to the island's only Design Hotel, Seaside Hotel Palm Beach - the place to go for those wanting a beach break with designer style as standard.

Situated in the bustling Maspalomas, but a little set back from the main stretch of bars and restaurants, this expansive hotel might look like a (rather large) slice of 70s architecture from the outside but inside has been given a chic, up-to-the-minute makeover that wouldn't look out of place in Milan or New York.

With all the extras you'd expect from a five-star hotel - spa, gym, numerous pools, concierge, etc - it's the stunning rooms that really inspire with their design-mag colour schemes and stunning views. Our only complaint? Do you really need such accurate bathroom scales when the seafood buffet is quite this good?
