Pachtuv Palace
By Jo Blackaby on Friday 10 October 2008
If you are after a little Czech luxury - and why not - then look no further than Pachtuv Palace on the bank of the Vltava River. With its elaborate baroque architecture, the hotel building is an impressive sight and the interior is pretty special too, with light airy corridors and stairwells, gentle lighting and large windows creating a relaxed and luxurious atmosphere.
Each of the 50 rooms, which are all spacious suites with separate living and sleeping areas, is different in layout and decoration. All adorned with grand chandeliers, fireplaces and wooden parquet flooring, some even boasting full-on frescoes, it really is fit for a king. Situated in the heart of the Old Town and with stunning views of the Prague Castle, the location is spot-on, too.
Pachtuv Palace also boasts a glorious 18th-century courtyard, which is a little oasis of calm, where in the summer you can relax and enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea and cake, or evening drinks. For the colder months, the hotel has a snug lounge bar where breakfast is served and hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day. It doesn’t, however, have its own restaurant, but with its fantastic location, you're only a short stroll to many fine eateries. Having said that, the hotel staff are also happy to order meals in for you, from trusted neighbouring restaurants, or have a picnic basket prepared for you to take out and about.
Another great plus is that all suites are ingeniously fitted with a fully equipped kitchenette, tucked away neatly in a large cupboard, so you are able to prepare meals, fresh coffee and chill your own wine within the comfort of your room should you tire of the busy city life. With the luxuriant long couches and cosy décor, it’s a very tempting option.
