WHERE TO STAY?
Legado Mitico is airy, sophisticated and well placed for Soho shopping – from £115. Just opened, Vitrum has dazzling white interiors, huge rooms with kitchenettes, a roof terrace, spa, gym and barbecue – from £121. Home has generous, teched-up rooms, a pool, garden, bar-restaurant and basement spa – from £76. All rates include breakfast and taxes.
WHERE TO EAT?
La Dorita (Humboldt 1911, 4773 0070) is the place to try a parrilla (mixed grill) – from £10 a head with wine. For river views and seafood, seek out Happening (Rafael Obligado, 4782 8207). Mott (El Salvador 4685, 4833 4306) is a total mix and great value.
WHERE TO SHOP?
Adelante (Armenia 1692), an eclectic boutique with great shoes from £40. Las Oreiro (Honduras 4780) is a classy boutique selling Jessica Rabbit-style bra sets from around £20. Nueve Veinticinco 925 (Honduras 4808) specialises in sophisticated Argentine jewellery, and the handmade boots at La Casa de las Botas (Paraguay 5062) are hard to beat. Tienda Palacio (Honduras 5272), meanwhile, is an eccentric homewares shop – check out its ‘Urbags’ covered in classified ads, £14.
WHERE TO PARTY?
La Viruta has tango classes and milongas (dances) from £2 a lesson. Zizek Urban Beats Club specialises in cumbia – a Colombian dance that’s spread across South America. For something more familiar, dine at a riverside restaurant, then hit superclub Pacha.
WHERE TO RELAX?
Sunbathe by the lakes in Parque 3 de Febrero or in the pretty Parque Alemania. The evening horse races at Hipódromo Argentino (Avda del Libertador 4101) are free to enter, or pull some strings to get into the polo ground opposite – November is peak season. MALBA is a superb art museum with a good café and shop. The Museo Evita presents a rose-tinted view of Argentina’s first lady, but the frocks are great and it’s in a sweet Hispanic-style house with a patio café.
