Marie Claire Reviews: Terra Naomi

New York singer/songwriter takes her cue from the Nineties sounds of Alanis Morisette

New Yorker Terra Naomi cites her influences as Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald and Nirvana. Her own sound fits the alternative pop/rock genre doing the rounds, putting you in mind of Alanis Morisette's debut album.
This latest single, Up Here, is a mid-tempo ballad beginning with a drumbeat and crescendoing to a guitar chorus. It's well-produced and worth a listen for female singer/songwriter fans.
Listen out for the bonus track – a beautiful cover version of Umbrella by Rhianna; admittedly as one of the most overplayed songs of the year, not a very inspired choice.
