Stars: Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman
Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman got Golden Globe nods for this romantic comedy-drama, though one suspects it was a sympathy vote. Hoffman is a Manhattan jingle writer in London for his daughter’s wedding when he meets Thompson’s terribly English airport worker and love blossoms. Writer-director Joel Hopkins’s heart is in the right place, but the story’s so slight, it’s almost anorexic, while the performances feel underfed. Disappointing.
