Michael Winterbottom’s latest is a sleight film about a teacher (Firth) who uproots his daughters
to the titular Italian city after the death of their mother. As a study of grief, it has potential, but haunted by the spectre of Don’t Look Now, an aimless plot and Firth’s baggage as the archetypal stuffy Brit, it emerges as an uncertain mix of thriller, melodrama and coming-of-age tale.
