The Young Victoria

By Jack Mottram  on Wednesday 18 February 2009

Young Victoria, Genova, film review, Marie Claire

Emily Blunt is the young monarch falling for Rupert Friend’s Prince Albert

She may not have been amused, but one suspects that Queen Victoria would’ve been charmed by this splendid take on her early years. The excellent Blunt opens her heart to show us a vulnerable woman growing into her powerful position, as she attempts to win over the great unwashed. But it’s the tentative romance with her beloved Prince Albert (Friend) that makes this a history lesson to warm the heart.(Out 6 March 2009)
