Marie Claire Film Reviews: Blindness

Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo star in Blindness

Adapted from the José Saramago's 1995 novel about and epidemic of 'white blindness' that ravages an unnamed city, this murky apocalyptic fable is a big disappointment. Moore and Ruffalo play a couple affected by the outbreak, forced to live in an abandoned asylum. As an allegory for society's inability to see, it may work on paper but, on screen, it's anything but clear-sighted.
