A pet project that took four years to shoot, The Fall is the brainchild of famed commercials director Tarsem. A shaggy dog story, as a hospitalised 1920s stuntman (Pace) spins a yarn to a little girl (Untaru) that she visualises in her over-active imagination, it begins as Charles Darwin and his monkey are stranded with three others on a desert island. If the tale told is as ultimately inconsequential as it is bizarre, you won’t find a more visually stunning film in this – or probably any – year.
