Everything you hoped for from the Batman sequel

Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger

If the tragic death of Heath Ledger haunts The Dark Knight, it's testament to director Christopher Nolan and his team that it doesn't overshadow what is arguably the best blockbuster sequel since The Empire Strikes Back. While Ledger is brilliantly unhinged as The Joker, he is just one piece in this complex jigsaw hung around Bale's brooding Batman. With fellow newcomers Aaron Eckhart (as District Attorney Harvey Dent) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (replacing Katie Holmes as love interest Rachel Dawes) fitting in perfectly, this is a superior, dynamic work that will leave you agog. Hollywood filmmaking at its finest.
