Starring Dakota Blue Richards, Nicole Kidman, Eva Green

Hollywood’s most shiny bauble under its tree this festive season is unquestionably this lavish adaptation of the first book from Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Newcomer Richards excels as brave young heroine Lyra, while Kidman is chilling as the villainous Mrs. Coulter, though sluggish pacing rather dampens the Christmas spirit.
