Youth without Youth
By James Mottram on Friday 14 December 2007
Starring Tim Roth, Alexandra Maria Lara
Francis Ford Coppola's first film in ten years, this flawed fable feels more like a swansong from the once-great director.
It's not hard to understand his empathy with Dominic (Roth), a Bucharest linguistics professor who regains his youth after being struck by lightening. But as the baffling story of regeneration and reincarnation quickly ties itself into metaphysical knots, Coppola seems too self-involved to notice.
