Big-screen incarnation of the infamous musical about bohemians (including Dawson and Pascal, right) living in New York’s East Village in 1989. An updated La Bohème, the characters’ main concerns are love, real estate and Aids, which make for some pretty belting show tunes. It’s sentimental and prone to overearnestness and romanticism, but it flaunts an infectious youthful verve reminiscent of Fame. ***
