This Is England

Intelligent and yet accessible, This is England is the best film to come out of the UK for years

Starring Stephen Graham, Joe Gilgun and Thomas Turgoose

It's 1983 and Shaun is getting picked on by everyone. His father's been killed in the Falklands and his flares are getting unwelcome attention, but on the last day of term a gang of skinheads take him under their wing. Once initiated into their culture, the holidays look set to be an exploration of love, parties and Doc Martins. The fun takes a darker turn with the arrival of Combo however, an older skinhead who brings a racist element to the gang. Beautifully realised, the outrageous hairstyles and outfits capture the times perfectly. Intelligent and yet accessible, This is England is the best film to come out of the UK for years.
