Need a scare on Friday night? Why not try The Messengers?

Starring Kristen Stewart, Dylan McDermott, Penelope Ann Miller and John Corbett

The Messengers offers up a classic spooky set-up. A family move into a creepy house in the middle of nowhere to start a new life. Instead of questioning the mysterious desertion of the home by the previous occupants, they cheerfully throw themselves into scrubbing away the ghostly apparitions that keep appearing on the wall. Only teenager Jess questions the noises coming from the cellar, but her parents think she's making it all up. The Messengers looks fantastic: ominous crows loom on the horizon and fields of sunflowers provide an unconventional backdrop to the horror. Unfortunately it doesn't deviate from the usual supernatural thriller plotline. Too predictable to bring many scares.
