The Language Of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
By Eithne Farry on Friday 29 July 2011
The poignant tale of a troubled homeless girl's attempt to find love and stability through gardening.
Released from the foster-care system at the age of 18, Victoria ends up sleeping rough in a park where she plants her own garden in a scrappy corner. A local florist offers her a job and she is soon creating glorious floral arrangements, bestowing on them passion and love that's missing from her own life. But when she falls for a vendor at the local flower market, Victoria is forced to confront dark secrets from her past to be able to engage with a romantic future. Diffenbaugh's debut is tough and tender, entwining loss and regret with second chances and happy outcomes.
