The Believers by Zoë Heller
By Eithne Farry on Friday 5 September 2008
Heller’s latest is an acerbic account of the derailment of a zealous New York family. Married for 40 years, Audrey is bewildered to discover her husband’s philandering and her children are experiencing similarly upsetting upheavals. Revolutionary Rosa grapples with a fascination for Orthodox Judaism, social worker Karla has an unsuitable suitor, and adopted son Lenny is back on drugs. Heller cleverly reveals the vulnerability beneath the rhetoric.

Brilliant page turner, sometimes thought provoking, you feel like you really get inside three of the characters. I enjoyed this book very much
