The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
By Eithne Farry on Monday 4 August 2008
More tales from WW2, this time set on Guernsey and told in a series of letters between a writer, Juliet Ashton, and beleaguered islanders. The Potato Peel Pie Society are an eccentric bunch, eking out hope in the face of German occupation. At the heart of the correspondence is the tale of Elizabeth, the founding member of the group, now in a concentration camp, whose indomitable spirit is inspirational. Very moving.
