Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey
By Eithne Farry on Monday 4 August 2008
Controversial ‘My drugs and prison hell’ memoirist James Frey has turned his hand to pure fiction. Taking the scattergun approach of his bestseller, A Million Little Pieces, he exposes the grubby reality of the Hollywood dream – honing in on the lives of a group of LA residents, from down-and-outs to rich film stars. The amalgam of violence, gangs, egos and a general air of tawdriness ensures most of his fragile, hopeful characters don’t stand a chance.
