My Diary by Mio Matsumoto
By Eithne Farry on Monday 7 July 2008
In February 2002, art student Mio Matsumoto discovered an ulcer on her tongue. The ulcer turned out to be cancer, and she spent five months dealing with fear, hospital boredom and unrequited love as she underwent treatment. Using her skill as an illustrator, she’s captured all aspects of her experiences in affecting, appealing line drawings. The result is a lovely, unusual book that’s refreshingly unsentimental and totally engaging.
