The Taker by Alma Katsu
By Eithne Farry on Monday 4 April 2011
A & E doctor Luke Findley is dealing with a humdrum night shift until Lanny arrives in handcuffs, with blood on her clothes, telling a murderous tale of a stabbed body in a wood.
Lanny spins the credulous Doctor Luke a story of forbidden passion, proves that she's physically indestructible and claims to be centuries old. Entranced and shaken, Luke absconds with Lanny. On the road, she regales him with tales from her past involving a band of debauched immortals, led by the devilish Adair, who rampage through history. She then convinces Luke of her love for the irresistible heartbreaker Jonathan, first glimpsed in church in 1809 and fretfully, fitfully pursued by her and Adair through time. Spookily captivating.
