A petition called for plus-size Disney Princesses has received over 22,000 signatures, thanks to a high school student in America.

Jewel Moore, a US teenager, launched the 'Every body is beautiful' petition on Change.org to encourage more positive representations of plus-size women in the media.

‘I’m a plus-size young woman, and I know many plus-size girls and women who struggle with confidence and need a positive plus-size character in the media,' she said.

'If Disney could make a plus-size female protagonist who was as bright, amazing, and memorable as their others, it would do a world of good for those plus-size girls out there who are bombarded with images that make them feel ugly for not fitting the skinny standard.'

So far 22,800 people have signed the petition, which challenges the familiar look of Disney princesses like Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Jasmine in Aladdin.
