'Three female long-term employees of different branches of Walmart in Tennessee have filed a lawsuit against the company after claiming they were denied promotions because of their gender and paid less than men who were doing the same job.
Cheryl Phipps, Bobbi Millner and Shawn Gibbons have spent between 11 and 26 years working for Walmart stores in three different towns in Tennessee.
They claim years of unequal pay and sexism.
Millner says she was given the paycheck of a male fellow assistant manager and discovered 'he was earning thousands of dollars more per year that she was despite having considerably less experience'.
Other women were told they could not be promoted to managerial positions because it was a 'man's job' and that 'women should be seen and not heard'.
Walmart has been sued by female employees before. In 2011 1.5m female employees brought a lawsuit against the company - the largest sex discrimination lawsuit in US history.
A spokesperson from Walmart said the company had 'strong policies against discrimination'.
