Two female Iranian journalists have been imprisoned, bringing the total number of jailed women journalists in the country to five.
Shiva Nazar Ahari and Jila Bani Yaghoob were arrested in order to serve previously imposed sentences, according to human rights group Reporters Without Borders.
27-year-old Ahari is editor of the 'Azad Zan' (which means Freed Women) website. She was sentenced to 74 lashes and will serve a four-year jail term for transmitting anti-government propaganda and plotting against national security.
Yaghoob was arrested in 2009 with her journalist husband Bahaman Ahamadi Amoee. Her 'We are journalists' blog was awarded a press freedom prize in the 2010, and in 2009 she won the International Women's Media Foundation's courage-in-journalism award.
In 2010 she went to jail for a year and was given a 30-year ban on working in journalism.
Both women are being held in Evin Prison, in the North West of the capital Tehran. The prison was nicknamed 'Evin University' due to the number of intellectuals and political prisoners held there.
