The parade, which highlights Caribbean culture with colourful outfits and floats, was mainly peaceful, despite 54 more arrests being made than the previous year.

The three-and-a-half mile route from Ladbroke Grove to Westbourne Grove and Chepstow Road, provided a party atmosphere involving children and their families. Young people from community groups and sports clubs travelled on the decorated floats, with lively dancers joining in along the street.

With one million spectators expected, 7,000 officers were on patrol in the local area. Arrests were mainly made for drug and public order offences, as well as robbery and assault.

36 men were stopped at Kings Cross underground station on Monday afternoon after concerns they could potentially cause trouble in the capital. They were held until police were satisfied there was no risk.

A man stabbed on Monday in North Kensington remains in a critical but stable condition, according to police.
