She may have missed out on a medal for her efforts in the pole vault, but Olympic athlete Holly Bleasdale had some good news when her boyfriend proposed.

Taking to her Twitter page she apologised for coming sixth in the London 2012 event on Sunday, saying: 'Devastated! Thanks for the support from everyone and sorry for letting people down! Tried my best, just wasn't to be!'

However just hours later she updated her feed to announce that boyfriend Paul Bradshaw had proposed.

She tweeted: '6th in the Olympics and @bradshaaaw proposes to me :) epic day!!!'

The 20-year-old's fiancé also shared the news via Twitter, saying: 'I have just proposed to @HollyBleasdale and she said yes!!!!! Best day ever!'

Bleasdale cleared a height of 4.45m in the final and she's the British record holder in the sport.

Congratulations, Holly!
