A Chinese swimmer who broke a world record and took gold at the Olympics has denied taking perfomance-enhancing drugs.

Ye Shiwen, 16, who won the 400m medley, has said there was 'no problem with doping' after US coach John Leonard described her performance as 'disturbing'.

Her performance left viewers stunned, with commentator Clare Balding causing controversy when she questioned how she apparently came out of nowhere to claim the top prize.

Over the last 50m Shiwen was quicker than American Ryan Loche who won the men's 400m individual in the second-fastest time in history.

There is no evidence against Shiwen and all medal-winners are drug tested.
