The mother of murder victim Clare Bernal is suing News International for damages after it emerged that her phone was allegedly hacked.

Patricia Bernal has launched a high court claim after being shown notes kept on her by Glenn Mulcaire, the private investigator at the centre of the scandal.

The notes, given under legal disclosure by the Metropolitan Police allegedly show that her voicemail was hacked by News of the World journalists within hours of her daughter's murder in September 2005.

Clare Bernal, 22 was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend Michael Pech as she worked on the makeup counter in Harvey Nichols. He then shot himself.

Patricia Bernal has joined at least 50 other alleged phone-hacking victims, including Wayne Rooney, who have lodged claims against the media group.

News International have declined to comment.
