Records show that domestic violence and sexual assualt of women are at an all-time high.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, convictions have increased by 15,000.

This is ‘only the tip of the iceberg’ say The Refuge, a charity who specialise in domestic abuse. Many women suffer in silence leaving cases to go unreported. Only 1 in 10 women who are sexually assaulted go to the police.

Nevertheless, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer, said the rise was due to better training and a greater understanding of victims.

He says. ‘Violence against women and girls is not a race issue, but what we do recognise is that the manifestation of abuse varies across communities and we have to discuss the issues and possible solutions together with those communities’.
