Tetra Pak heir Hans Kristian Rausing may have lived with tragic wife Eva's dead body for up to four days before it was discovered by police.

The couple, who had become increasingly reclusive after fighting a battle against drug addiction, had apparently been living in only two squalid rooms of their Belgravia mansion.

Hans Rausing remains in hospital receiving treatment for a mental breakdown.

He is also still being questioned by police, who now believe she had lain dead in an upstairs bedroom for three or four days.

They are studying CCTV footage and Eva's phone and email accounts to see when she last used them and whether or not Hans spent time in the period when his wife was dead.

The couple had battled drug addiction for many years, meeting in rehab.

In 2008 they were arrested after attempting to smuggle crack and heroin into a party.

A post-mortem examination failed to reveal how Eva died and toxicology and other tests are underway.

It is likely to be several days before results are released.
