Ian Huntley has his throat slashed

The notorious Soham killer, Ian Huntley, was in hospital last night after having his throat slashed by a fellow prisoner.

Huntley, who is currently serving life for the murder of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, was attacked with a ‘homemade implement' during a fight at Frankland jail, County Durham.

The alarm was raised when screams were heard at 3.25pm yesterday. At

first, it was believed he would not pull through.

He is now being guarded in a prison hospital bed as he recovers from his injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

‘It was horrific,' says a prison source. ‘There was blood everywhere. It was the worst thing I have ever seen. I thought there was no way he could survive.'

Huntley, 36, is one of the country's most high-risk prisoners, suffering a string of attacks since he was convicted in 2003. It is reported that he is only allowed to mix with certain inmates who have passed the appropriate ‘risk assessment'.

As well as suffering a string of assaults, Huntley has made three attempts to take his own life with antidepressant pills. His cell, which is under constant CCTV surveillance, contains photographs of his ex-lover Maxine Carr, with whom he is said to be obsessed.

Police are now investigating how a prisoner, who is supposed to be under constant surveillance for his own safety, was in a position to be stabbed by another inmate.

He should have had the death sentence as far as I am concerned for killing 2 children. I have no sympathy whatsoever for him

Well I am so happy! Roll on his next horific injury. Think about what he did and then decide that he deseves all he has comming to him. A total scum bag.

Ian Huntley deserves everything he gets while behind bars. Although I do think capital punishment should definately be brought back. An eye for an eye and all that. It's the only way to sort these kind of people out.

Lock him in a cell - with the parents of the two murdered girls .......
Comment by Anon on March 22 16:01

Yes, that's right - let's meet violence with violence. That'll solve everything.
Comment by Lucy Robinson on March 22 17:45

It's only as much as this piece of trash deserves. It's interesting how fellow prisoners dish out the justice that time and time again that the state fails to deliver. You can see from all the comments that the public are sick and tired of the ridiculous liberal system that prevails in this country. Huntley will probably sue the Home Office for failing to protect him so there'll be even more taxpayers money down the drain.
And don't get me started on the European Court of Human Rights that seems determined to undermine whatever so called justice is delivered by the courts.

Whereas I agree that this man is depraved and should be locked up I find it quite alarming that the general response is of 'glee' towards the violence that he's received- It really isn't the answer to fight back with this vigilante attitude or we could descend into chaos-he's sick (in every way)and we should avoid any behaviour that is similar to his own or we just become like him!

Ian Huntly murdered two innocent children - I am a supporter of the death penalty - but I believe that this murdering b*****d should rot in prison for the rest of his life. It may be at our (the tax payers expense) - but the fact that this animal has to live in fear - for the rest of his life - makes it feel justified. He never gave his victims the chance to live their lives - so why should he live his.
