Michael Jackson's £133m Sony record deal

By Kasie Davies  on Wednesday 17 March 2010

Michael Jackson - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

He has been dead for nine months, but the work of Michael Jackson lives on as his family sign a quarter of a billion dollar deal with Sony records that will include ten projects.

The record-breaking deal will include a brand new album of never-before-heard songs, a video game and the re-release of his smash-hit album, Off The Wall. It is a far better deal than he ever got when he was alive.

The remarkable agreement beats those signed by Madonna, who has an £80million contract, and rapper Jay-Z, who has a deal worth a whopping £100million.

Jackson died last June from an overdose of the anaesthetic Propofol weeks before the start of his comeback tour, This Is It, at the O2 arena. He was only 50.

Some of the money acquired through the deal will help pay off the £280million debts incurred by Jackson during his declining years in pop, following allegations of child abuse in the 1990s.

Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony's Music Coulmbia/Epic Label Group, says: ‘We're dedicated to protecting this icon's legacy and we're thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world.'
