One in three women suffer sexual harassment at work

It's a shocking statistic: One in three women has admitted to suffering sexual harassment in the work place, with advances ranging from an inappropriate remark to disturbing gestures and physical contact.

According to a recent study, the situation has become so bad that 16 per cent of the country's 29 million workers dread going into work, and one in 20 has quit a job as a result.

Will Burrows, head of employment law for LawOptions.co.uk, which carried out the study, says: ‘A massive part of our lives is spent at work, but it can be extremely difficult if you have to face lewd remarks from your colleagues. It's even more worrying to think that so many people are putting up with this behaviour from their boss'.

From the study of 2,300 workers - both male and female - 14 per cent said they were dreading this year's office Christmas party for fear of being accosted by a colleague.

But perhaps even more worrying than this is their fear to take protective and disciplinary action.

Mr Burrows continues: ‘Taking steps to resolve an unsavory work situation can seem daunting but facing the issue with knowledge of your rights in the workplace is the only way to resolve the unwelcome and intimidating behaviour'.

If you have experienced similar issues in the work place, then we would love to hear from you by adding a comment below. Don't suffer in silence. Take action now!
