Camilla slams Beyonce video

By Lucy Halfhead  on Friday 27 November 2009

Beyonce Knowles - Celebrities in Underwear - Fashion - Marie Claire

The Duchess of Cornwall spoke for the first time yesterday about her concerns over explicit music videos.

Camilla was taking part in a discussion with victims of sexual violence during a visit to a rape crisis centre when the topic turned to how music videos affect teenagers today.

Referring to the images children are exposed to, she said: 'A lot of those videos are terrifying. I am sure they trigger a response in some of the young people. I can never understand how they get away with making those things.'

The new video from pop superstar Beyoncé - Video Phone - also features the outlandish singer Lady Gaga. Beyoncé provocatively dances in a series of skimpy outfits and holds a toy gun to a man's head.

The Duchess made clear her concern that young people are becoming immune to such images of sex and violence. She added that schools needed to become involved in teaching both male and fmeale schoolchildren 'the value of respect for each other.'

Camilla was touring the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre in Croydon, London, and said she was 'incredibly moved' by what she saw and was 'astonished' that the centre was the only one of its kind in London, despite one in four women experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime.

I completely agree. i am so pleased someone is speaking out about it. don't get me wrong i love the music and artists but the sexual way things are presented these days can not be healthy. especially if the wrong type of people are been influenced. women can be sexy yes but sexy these days is displayed as degrading and is no longer a private thing.no wonder women have no respect shown to them. xx

Get real this is 2009, sex sells !!! I would rather have the sex appeal of Beyonce any day, rather than Camilla !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually camilla wasnt trying to be sexy she was fighting against sexual violence and rape.A massive problem in the uk. it is a serious matter.nothing to do with sex appeal. xx

I agree that music videos are oversexualized these days, but to connect rape with skimpydressed stares is not the way to go. Rape is not about the way a woman is dressed if you didn't know.

I have no time for Camilla but for once have to agree with her.
Some of the videos take sex and violence for too far, nothing is ever unacceptable and it's time things started to change.
The young learn by example and the examples set today are not ones to be followed 2009 or not!

Stars your music is good it does not need sex and violence to sell, if it does then there is something seriously wrong with it!

Can we please have a new start in 2010 supported by Marie Claire.

THANK YOU Camilla!
Thank you for speaking up.
Please do not let the negative comments stop you form doing this again

I hope to start a family in 5 years and I am so frightened to bring them up in this society.
How will I explain tomy daughter to respect herself with these images she will be exposed to.
How will I explain to my son that this is not the way to view women.

Theses so called artists have a duty, they are role models. If you walk inot any supermarket, you find this images filling the shelves, how would you explain to a 3 year old boy, this is wrong, he will grow up with these wrong worng images.

Please do not stop Camilla. I hope more take her stand.
