Oprah to end her iconic chat show
Twenty-three years on, boasting 45 million viewers in the US alone and after reaching over 135 countries in the world, talk show queen Oprah Winfrey will today announce that her show is coming to an end in September 2011.
Winfrey has interviewed the most powerful people in the world such as former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, Presidents of the US such as Bill Clinton, George Bush and Barack Obama and stars including the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in 1996, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
Miss Winfrey, 55, will take another step to becoming one of America's most powerful media moguls by heading her own television network after she leaves her top rated US talk show.
She will focus on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Network' (OWN) - a new cable channel which will be based in Los Angeles and will reach 70 million homes in America.
She is one of the most recognised and trusted figures in America and a major opinion-maker. She was number 45 on Forbes magazine's list of the world's most powerful people this year. Her show is the top rated US daytime talk show, averaging 7.1 million viewers this year.
