Bride buys 99p wedding dress on eBay

A bride got married in a wedding dress she found on internet auction website eBay costing 99p.

Suzanne Daniel, 24, was using eBay for the first time when she found her ‘dream dress’ and made a 99p bid. She was astonished to win the auction, and proudly wore the dress to her wedding to Stuart Walker, 32, in the Lake District.

The pair wed at St Andrew's Church just a quarter-of-a-mile from their home in the village of Coniston. After the vows they were greeted in the churchyard by chimney sweep David Weir, bringing to life a Victorian custom that is said to bring good luck to newlyweds.

With confetti made from rose petals, the couple also resurrected the custom of throwing pennies for children to gather. After the service, the bride and groom joined their 70 guests for a three-quarters-of-a-mile walk to the reception at the Waterhead Hotel, Coniston.

The couple's family had made them a three-tier gingerbread wedding cake. The bride, who is a PE teacher, said: ‘It was just I didn't want to spend a fortune on the wedding because it's more about the marriage. We just wanted the basic things that meant something to us.

‘There were lots of big crowds at the build up. People had been saying 'we must come and see, we haven't had a traditional wedding like this in years'. It was amazing to see. There were people all lined in the streets outside the pubs and the shops cheering us on.

‘Lots of people commented on the dress, thinking it cost thousands of pounds. I was on eBay and I just happened to find my dream dress.’
